A single network?

Hi,
Today I reconfigured my network layout in an attempt to get three computers onto the same network. My current hardware layout is as follows: DSL modem plugged into AEBS, an iBook and a Dell accessing AEBS wirelessly, and another Dell plugged directly into the AEBS ethernet port. Now, the internet connection is being shared just perfectly, but is it possible to get all computers onto the same network to share files and printers? The wireless Dell runs XP, the wired one runs ME.
I've set up a network with AEBS which the two wireless computers are able to access; however, they are unable to see each other. In fact, my iBook sees several network folders when I click on the Network tab in a Finder window, some of which are empty.
Any input is appreciated!
Thanks

...but is it possible to get all computers onto the same network to share files and printers?
They already are on the same network.
You should visit iFelix's web site to work through the correct configuration on each computer.

  • How to set up AEBS dual band as single network?

As I have it now, when I open Network Prefs and click on Advanced, I see two networks listed: my 5GHz network and presumably, my 2.4GHz nbetwork. The problem is that although I've listed my 5GHz network as my preferred network, it continually chooses the 2.4GHz network? Or that is what I see when I cherck my wi-ifi status in my menu bar.  I'm not sure why that is, but I've read that if I create a single network, my AEBS will automatically choose the appropriate network? If this is so, I'ds like to eliminate ther 2.4GHz network.

so I thought if I was able to merge both bands, then I could eliminate this happening?
You cannot "merge" both bands....they will always be separate signals....but you can assign the same wireless network name to both bands. That is the default setup for the AEBS, and the setting that most users should use.
Your Mac will connect to either the 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz band automatically.
Your Mac will connect to the band that it thinks is the best quality.
Best "quality" does not necessarily mean the faster speed band. The Mac is looking for the best combination of speed, signal strength, low noise, interference and other things that Apple engineers won't tell us about.
Try removing the check mark in the box next to 5 GHz network name in AirPort Utility and test things out. You may find them better, or worse.

  • Multiple networks using single network adapter

    Hi,
If I have only single network adapter in a OVM server (or  single bond interface bond0 created from two network adapters), is it possible to separate networks for
VM management, live migrate and VM public networks using any mechanism, say by creating VLANs?  I am having two 10G adapters in each of the VM server
and would like to separate traffic of each of these networks.  Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
10G adapter is the best NIC performance so with two NICs like this, i recommand you to use the bond0 (mode 1) for fault tolerance and use the VLAN technology to separate the Networks.
Note that Oracle VM support the VLAN configuration.
I hope this can help you

  • Latency when 5 apple TV is connected in a Single network

    Hi,
I am thinking of setting up 5 apple tv in a single network. Each apple tv is connected to a HD TV display the streaming from a specific iPad. Wonder if the display on the tv will be laggy.
    Thank in advance,

    Welcome to the Apple community.
Using five Apple TVs and airplay simultaneously may cause a single network problems. I have seven Apple TV's at home, but have created multiple base stations all connected to the same network via ethernet to cope with this.

  • Creating a single network with multiple airports

    Hello -
I have been having trouble combining all of my airport devices into one single network.    I currently have one Airport Extreme (Gen 2) and two Airport Express (802.11n) devices to cover my home.  I have significant difficulty with range on the devices.    Right now each of the devices are connected separately via anethernet cable to a switch that then is connected to my home FIOS router.    All of my best efforts at bridging the devices with my Extreme as the primary network have failed.   Is it possible to have each of the Airport devices act as one network with this configuration?
    Thank you.
    Don

    Thanks for the update.
Power up one AirPort Express only, open up AirPort Utillty 5.6, select that AirPort Express, and click Manual Setup.
If the Express does not appear in AirPort Utility, perform a Factory Default Reset on the device as follows:
Power off the Express for a minute
Hold in the reset button on the Express and keep holding it for an additional 9-10 seconds while you simultaneously plug the Express back in to power
Release the reset button after the hold period and allow 40-45 seconds for the Express to display a slow blinking amber light
Then try AirPort Utility 5.6 and Manual Setup again and it should "see" the Express
Click the Base Station tab below the icons to assign a device name to the Express....AirPort Express 1, for example, a device password and adjust Time Zone settings.
Click the Wireless tab and assign the exact same settings that you used on the AirPort Extreme to the AirPort Express.  The Radio Mode of the Express may not have an "Automatic" setting, so the default "802.11n (802.11 b/g compatible" setting would be a good choice.
Click the Internet icon and then the Internet Connection tab and assign the exact same settings that the AirPort Extreme is using....Connect Using = Ethernet and Connection Sharing = Off (Bridge Mode).
Click Update and allow 40-45 seconds for the AirPort Express to display a green light. Then, power it off.
Configure the other AirPort Express exactly the same way as AirPort Express 1, except that you will give it a different name under the Base Station tab, AirPort Express 2....for example....to keep everything straight.
Once you have a green light on AirPort Express 2, power it off.
Power of the entire network now...all devices....in any order that you wish
    Wait a minute
Start the FIOS modem/router first and let it run a minute by itself
Start the AirPort Extreme the same way
Start AirPort Express 1 the same way
Start AirPort Express 2 the same way
Continue starting devices one at a time a minute apart until the entire network is back up and running
The network should be operating correctly at this point and your Mac should automatically pick up a signal from the AirPort that is providing the strongest signal as it moves around the house.
To confirm that this is the case, locate the Mac very close to the AirPort Extreme for a minute
Hold down the option key on the Mac while you click on the fan shaped AirPort icon at the top of the screen
Note the BSSID. That is the AirPort ID of the device to which the Mac is connected
Move the Mac close to an AirPort Express, wait a minute, then check the BSSID. It should be a different ID
Check the other AirPort Express the same way, it should be a different ID

  • What is the most sensible way to extend a wifi signal. I am in a cinderblock house and I have to buy something that will give me a single network but added range from my airport extreme base station.

What is the most sensible way to extend a wifi signal. I am in a cinderblock house and I have to buy something that will give me a single network but added range from my airport extreme base station.

Use an Airport Express. Configure the AEBS to allow it's wireless network to be extended. This is a dropdown menu option under the Wireless tab. Configure the Airport Express to Extend an Existing Network also under it's Wireless tab. You will need to provide the name of your network used in the AEBS as well as the network's access password.

  • How Do I download iTunes music to a single network location share?

i am a network administrator for my church and want to consolidate the music library to one single library that resides on our file server.  I don't want users to waste time downloading a song that we already have downloaded with the church account.  I've moved all of the itunes music off of the computers and onto the server, but the individual itunes installations are still downloading to their local C: drive.
How do I setup iTunes so it downloads to the server location and how do I direct the library of each computer to the server location? I'd like it to be done at the time of installation so I don't have to go to each machine individually.
    Thanks

    For iTunes 9:
Choose File > Library > Organize Library
    For iTunes 8:
Choose File > Library > Consolidate Library
    For iTunes 7 or earlier:
    Choose Advanced > Consolidate Library.
    A message will pop up.
    For iTunes 9:
Place a check next to "Consolidate files" and click OK.
    For iTunes 8 and earlier:
    Click Consolidate.
This action copies all of your music and other media files to the new location. There must be enough hard disk space available to copy all of your files.

  • Migrate switches from different networks to a single network

Hello, I have a question on migrating C3750 switches between networks.
Our current situation is that we have two networks.
We control the cores on both networks but do not controll all the edge devices on both networks.
We can not access the IOS and configuration on a number of switches because we don't have the login information for those.
In the future if we are to take control of those edge devices how can we modify the IOS and configuration settings for multiple switches at one time?
Within the core we can modify vlans, destroy and recreate to suit our purposes, so that's easy enough.
We would rather not have to visit each and every switch and do this manually as there are over 40 switches and only 2 admins.
Manually doing this requires using the password recovery option method to change the IOS.
Once done we should be able to update the config via CISCOWorks on all the devices,
Or we could do it the other way around and update the config and then update the IOS via CISCOWorks.
Our wish is to attempt to do both via CISCOWorks or some other automated method.

    Hi,
Can this be acheived by normal TMS configuration (without Extended Transport Control)? If yes how?
    Yes.
Understand the following basic relationship behind transporting chagnes using TMS
....Repository Objects ->are assigned to-> Package ->are assigned to->Single Transport Layer ->is assigned to-> Single Transport Route -> Target System.
The basic concept behind standard Transport Control is that every repository object in Source System (e.g Dev-System) is assigned (via a package) to a certain transport layer, it follows that a change request can only have one target system. So, you can transport change requests from multiple clients of Development System, which you can import into QUA system's clients upon release.
With the standard Transport control program, it is not possible to create two transport routes with the same transport layer from one SAP System. Thus, The extended Transport Control program is used for transporting the changes based on Client specific Transport Routes by using the concept of Transport Group. Using this, one can transport changes to multiple systems, multiple clients using the same transport layer.

  • Change from edge firewall to single network adapter.

Can I change from Edge Firewall to SIngle Adapter mode? If possible, what do I need to take on consideration for doing it.
    Thanks for advise

You can change the template by running the Getting Started Wizard (GSW). Do note that your configuration will be lost, you will have to export your configuration and then restore it piece by piece, e.g. you can't import the entire configuration
but rather objects (e.g. rules, network objects etc). Then you'd have to verify the imported configuration and if necessary modify it to a working state.
If the configuration isn't to complicated, I'd start over manually. If you go for the export/import I strongly recommend that you test this on a test system first to verify your procedure.
    But yes, its doable.

  • Sharing a single, networked itunes library?

    hello --
to make a long story short, i might have to buy a mac mini (frequent flyer points about to expire, might as well use them) and i'd like to use my unraid nas to store my itunes library instead of loading up the mini's hard drive. the mac would be placed in the music room, feeding my hi-fi rig's dac via a 25' fibre optic cable, with amarra / pure music / whatever dishing out high-res music.
up to now, there's nothing special. others have done it, surely.
but here's the twist. my itunes library is currently located on a windows box. since a recent scare (mother of all bsod, a few music files got corrupted), i've been thinking about storing all of my music on more robust storage. in this case, my nas (unraid v4.5.6, fwiw).
the nas would only provide "dumb" storage, it would not be an itunes server.
the actual twist is that i'd like to have this one library shared by two different boxes: one windows, one a mac. what i have read up until now is not encouraging. two macs or two pcs should be ok sharing a network-stored itunes library, but a mac and a pc do not look as if they would "play nice". but who knows, maybe it can be made to work.
anyone else done this? am i alone with such a crazy idea?
    thanks in advance.

    Dear Jolly,
Do you know if either program will allow you to direct where each individual "library" is located so I can spread them among different drives?
i believe both can, at least PowerTunes offers that feature -> http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/powertunes/Help/creating%20a%20new%20library.html
Also, can you generate the new libraries in the new locations by selecting playlists or large groups of files to from the master library?

  • Can I use 2 Actiontec FIOS routers in the same house in a single network?

I currently have my FIOS Actiontec router in the top level of my 2 story house. I want to be able to have a wired ethernet connection to the PS3 and Computer that it is in the basement. Unfortunately, there is no way to route an ethernet cable from the top level to the basement. There are a lot of "outside" Wi-Fi signal that create inteference, so I don't want to use a Wi-Fi connection.
Can I buy a second Actiontec router and connect it using the Coaxial cable available in the basement to connect the PS3 and Computer via Ethernet cable using the LAN ports in the Actiontec router, while keeping everything in the same network?
Will I still get 25/25 speeds?
I bought a Netgear MoCA adapter but the speeds were horrible (10/2) and it didn't work very well.
    The setup would be:
Top Level:  Actiontec Router connected via Coaxial and connecting 3 computers via Ethernet
Basement: Second Actiontec router connected via Coaxial conecting the PS3 and another computer via Ethernet.
    Thanks

MOCA should run at north of 200mbps, so if you are getting much less than that, something is wrong.
I would try re-seating the coax at the splitters, and possible replacing the coax connectors on the cables, or at least cleaning them up.  Make sure that the splitters in use are bi-directional and good to at least 1 Ghz.
If the connection to the basement wasn't there when the FiOS service as installed, it might be on an old splitter left over from Cable or Sat days. FiOS places the MOCA signal at frequencies well above those normally used for Cable and Sat service, so splitters left over from those installations may not work acceptably. In addition if the cable going to the basement is from a previous installation, it may not be in the best condition, or especially suitable for FiOS, and you might try replacing it with new cable. Coaxial Cable has a finite life.
If all else fails, you might consider Powerline Ethernet adapters. These transmit Ethernet over the powerlines in the house, and can usually provide 80mbps or so bandwidth, which is probably more than your FiOS connection is good for. They basically allow you to relocate ports from the router to just about anywhere else in the house where there is an electric outlet.

  • Why is my iphone locked to a single network when i bought the iphone new from apple

I want to change network on pay as you go but when I change the sim it is asking for activation & to contact my network provider?
I dont understand as I bought my iphone 4s new sim free.

Apple does not sell unlocked phones in all countries. In many countries, Apple sells both locked and unlocked phones.
Does your reciept state that the phone is "unlocked"?
What is the exact error message you are getting?
Where exactly did you purchase the phone?

  • HT3728 I have factory reset and firmware updated my airport extreme, but although it should have dual network capacity, I can now only create a single network.. Suggestions please

I have factory reset the extreme base station and updated firmware, however, now there do not appear to be dual networks. Why is that

Then you may be possibly referring to the Guest Network option?.....which would not be enabled by default when you reset the device back to default settings.
You can use AirPort Utility to enable that function.

  • Both L1 & L2 scheduling in a single network

    Hi,
In a single project, is it possible to have both L1 & L2 level of activities alongwith the relationships among them. As per my knowledge, there is only a single Level of activity can be added i.e. either L1 or L2 in standard SAP. Activity element can be considered but there is no relationship, so its not gonna help me.
If any one have any idea, please share.
    Thanks,
    Soubhagya Rout

    Hi
This kind of scheduling is generally industry practice and not seen in SAP PS (with my experience). Once I am come across with one of our client to have TA Project scheduling with more detailed but SAP has declined to offer such kind of detailed scheduling (hourly scheduling) in PS module rather they have suggested go for MS Project or Primevera.
I have tested this scenario and noticed the following.
I have not maintained the duration at top level activity and assigned durations at activity elements. Not seen aggregate value at main activity. When confirmed the one of the activity element, still not rolling up at higher level activity but we can see the reamining duration with reduced values against activity element with confirmation.
I am not sure whether this is a system behaviour or some thing is missing here.
The work around solution would be, thid could be suggestion and might work in your case, you can set up activity elements with durations maintained for each and keep confirming each AE whenever required. Once you are done final confirmation to all the the AEs then go for main ativitiy confirmation. The problem here is you will not see rolled progress at main activity.
To have project progress for every pre-defined period, you can start confirming the main activity periodically basing on lower level activity elements progress, so that you will be able to see the POC progress on your project.
Please try and let me know if you need any further inputs.
