A smaller "save a copy" screen

Here is my problem.  When I open PDFs in my firefox browser and want to save a copy onto my computer, and I click the "save" button, the "save a copy" screen (where you type in the name you want to give the file) opens in my browser as full-screen.  I need it to open smaller-- the same size as "save" screens on other applications-- because I need to also see details about the PDF that I will give to the name.  (I'm a scientist, and I'm usually saving the names of journal articles, so I want to get the author's name and title of the article written into the PDF name; it isn't always easy to memorize that, especially with unusual author names.)  Is there a way to make the "save copy" box smaller?

it's possible but will require some add-on classes or component or a lot of work to save as a pdf.  you can check blazePDF for as2.  for as3 alivePDF is available.

That all depends on how much hassel you'll willing to go through. You can save an image from Photoshop as a PDF...then inside of Acrobat (can't do it in Photoshop) you have two levels os security. You can require password to even open a PDF and the 2nd level is to require a second password to be able to print, edit or change (once opened there's nothing you can do about screen captures).
So, you could then control the number of people that had the various password access to open or edit. But...keeping track of those passwords and making sure the people that need them have them can be an issue.
Note that a secured password protected PDF can have text, images, movies and audio–pretty much anything you might need. Also note there are some issues regarding the password encryption...I don't recall what level of encryption is capable of being exported to forgien countries...you should look into that if disctribution would be outside of the US.

Adobe LiveCycle Rights Management can apply DRM to a PDF file, which prevents printing and content extraction, and links access to the document to a user login - but there is no way to prevent that user saving a copy of the file to disk or a USB drive, or making multiple copies, no from telling someone else their login details. You can revoke access remotely if you suspect a copy has been stolen, but there's no DRM solution for PDF files which can lock the content to a hardware platform, for example in the way a copy of Windows "activates" itself. Opening and copying a file are two entirely-different concepts, and if a LCDRM-encrypted file is published to the Web without the login details to open it, we can be absolutely certain it cannot be cracked as the encryption hashes used by Adobe are so complex they would take billions of years to break, even with government-level resources. Naturally if a user reveals their login details to someone, LiveCycle's audit trail will prove this and you can take legal action against that user, but they may not care if the document has sufficient value.
Using PDF there is no way to block access to the Print Screen button. Some third-party software converts the PDF into a proprietary file format which only opens in their own software, that in turn attempts to block the print screen keystroke, but it's not hack-proof and the resulting file is of course no longer a PDF. Ultimately if you can see something on screen you can always copy it, either by use of a custom display driver, remote-desktop system or photographing the screen with a cellphone camera, and re-OCRing the pages from those photos.
Where documents are sufficiently-important to require a guarantee that on-screen reading is the only possible thing a user can do once the file is opened, they should be restricted to using hardware in secured locations, where network access, printers, USB ports etc. can all be removed. This is the approach taken by many enterprise and public-sector agencies; but once a document is distributed to an unregulated location there will always be a way around copy protection on page content if a user can open the file and view it on screen. While there are some interactive page elements in PDF which are harder to "screen scrape" than others (SWF, video and 3D), it can be done. The only elements of a PDF file which can be guaranteed secure even in an unsecure location are invisible features such as scripts when the PDF is protected using LCDRM to ensure it cannot be opened in third-party software.

  • How To Save Jpeg Copy As Action

Hi - how do I create an action that saves my open image as a jpeg copy in the same directory as the original? Rather than save as export I am doing a straight 'Save As...' and then selecting the jpeg option. When you do this the 'save as copy' is greyed out. If I 'Save As..' but before changing to jpeg, whilst it is a PSD file I can select 'save as copy', then select the jpeg option. Whilst the box is greyed out it is still ticked. However it still does not save as a copy, but overwrite the original.
    Any clues? Using CS5.

    Hi.
You can also use the keyboard shortcut Alt+Ctrl+S (save as copy) when recording the action to add copy to the name.
There's an obvious one I missed. This solves a problem lurking in the action. Duplicate preserves the original name (plus "copy").  But the Save dialog will open to the spot recorded in the action. Not the source document folder. You might have to navigate to the right folder. So in this statement,
The file should be saved to the same folder...
needs a small correction. Change "should" to "probably won't".
Using "Duplicate" severs the ties between the original document and the copy. Alt+Ctrl+S retains that link and the Save dialog opens the right folder.  If your Save step isn't conditional, the new file will be named Original Name plus "copy.jpg". So the action gets really simple.
    1. Ctrl+Alt+S. With Format set to Jpg.
    Thanks, MTSTUNER.

  • "Save A Copy As"... graphic glitch in Audio pathway?

    Here's the situation...
When I'm done with a song, I archive it to an external hard drive.
By utilizing "Save A Copy As". I can copy the Logic song, all associated audio files, EXS instruments and samples used, etc... to this external drive.
I then like to open the copied Logic song file, to verify that all the audio files used in the song, have indeed copied over, and I'll even play this song, from the external drive, as assurance that all is well.
What's happening lately, is that after I "Save A Copy As", and then open the copied Logic file, I hit apple/9 to see the audio pathway/location of all my copied files, and only some of them are showing that they have been copied to the new location. Many, many other audio files, used in the song, are still referencing the original audio drive location, or sampler instruments drive. Yet, looking in this new locations audio folder, all the files appear to be there.
I was able to confirm they were indeed there, but dragging my main audio drive and samples drive to the trash, thus ejecting them. Then, when re-opening the copied Logic song, and hitting apple/9, now all the audio files are indeed showing that they are in the new archived location. If they had actually been referencing the audio files from the locations that were originally shown, I would have gotten the prompt telling me it couldn't find certain files, because those hard drives had been ejected.
Is this normal behavior? I have never noticed this before.
I'm an anal "type A" personality, and I need (i.e insist) visual as well as aural confirmation that a song file and it's associated audio files have archived correctly, before I' go and erase the original files off of my audio drive.
So, I guess my question is, is this a graphic glitch, or is there some intended purpose for Logic not showing me the actual location of the archived audio files? In other words, visually, it's still showing the original location of SOME of the audio files, not all (which is really bizarre). Why?
Is this happening to anyone else?

Thanks! Didn't see the check box.

  • Controlling 2nd Display - Find 'Copy' Screen - 2 Questions

I have two questions here, the first should be fairly basic. I just connected a second display using the Mini-DV out to a HDMI cable. The second screen shows my desktop but does not show anything else, are there separate controls to allow certain things on the 2nd display?
My second question relates to the first, my 2nd display shows my desktop but also shows a small box on the left side that says 'Copy' on the top and has 5 separate items listed. The first is for Firefox and says 'An item named "Firefox" already exists in this location... Another says 'Copying 3 items to Clint's Camera' and has a status below that is running in place but has not changed for at least an hour. How can I access this 'Copy' Screen from my iMac so I can stop this items? I tried to restart but said something else was running in the Finder so it would not let me, any ideas? Thanks!

you have to imagine the two screens like they were just one screen.
have a look at system preferences -> displays -> arrangment. there you see the two screens. if your second screens is on the right, for example, you have to move your mouse outside the right side of your first screen to get to the second. that way you can move stuff between screens and also get to the copy dialog from the second screen.

  • Menu  and the icon representation  will be disastrous small when highly scalable screens.

A Photoshop nuisance for years: The Photoshop menu bar at the top of the screen and the icon representation of the tool bar on the left of the screen will be disastrous small when highly scalable screens. The size is fixed as set in concrete, no matter what settings in the operating system (Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit) is selected in the menu of Photoshop or. At the present time, this is an imposition. On the net, we learn that this can be changed only by a corresponding script. Does anyone know of such a script here in the Forum? I would (and surely many others) extremely grateful. Blindflug

  • How to copy screen selections?

Is there native facility in Mac OS X for selecting and copying screen shots or must a third party application be used? I need to do this to copy and save graphics and photos from the web but also to send screen shots of error mesages and dialogs to tech support. Thanks in advance for any insights.

To take a screenshot hold ⌘ Shift 4 to create a selection crosshair. Click and hold while you drag the crosshair over the area you wish to capture and then release the mouse button. You will hear a "camera shutter" sound. This will deposit a screenshot on your Desktop.
If you can't find it on your Desktop look in your Documents or Downloads folder.
If you want to attach a screenshot to a response here, click the "camera" icon above the text field:
This will display a dialog box which enables you to choose the screenshot file (remember it's on your Desktop) and click the Insert Image button.
⌘ Shift 4 and then pressing the space bar captures the frontmost window.
⌘ Shift 3 captures the entire screen.

  • Save A Copy Command

I've got an indesign files which is over 200MB, I used the "save a copy" command and the file size has reduced to 70MB, can anyone tell me why that happens? Thanking you!

    > which you could have used Undo to step backwards with...
    Not part of the file.
Saving a 200 MB or larger file, especially over a network, can take a while and force you to pause, maybe up to a minute, when saving. Not only is that annoying, it's a disincentive to sae, which can be much worse than annoying. So InDesign saves your changes to the file, which are usually a very small amount of data relative to the file size. Save As when you're done with the file to get he size down.

  • SAVE A COPY in Adobe lllustrator

Does anyone have a way to save a COPY of current document
    from Adobe Illustrator via applescript.
I cant seem to find it in the manuals or dictionaries.
Keep in mind that what is on the screen in the current document

I did not want to use 'apple system events' if I can help it.

Not sure I understood your requirement, but...
This will make a duplicate of the _last saved_ version of the current document. (The purpose being to produce a backup before you save over it.)

  • Why does IOS 7 enlarge pictures for the wallpaper and then disallow you to make them smaller to fit the screen?

Why does IOS 7 enlarge pictures for the wallpaper and then disallow you to make them smaller to fit the screen?

Now correct me if I'm wrong but I am sure I have read that the parallax effect in iOS 7 is the main reason behind wallpapers not being able to be shrunk. However, even disabling the effect will not allow you to resize the pictures like you could in previous versions of iOS, so as Skydiver119 said, it kind of is a glitch. If you are like me, and don't regularly change your wallpaper, then it may be worth creating a photoshop document which is slightly larger than your screen resolution(400px in each direction or so) and then placing your picture to suit, before copying it your device. Obviously, this would not be ideal if you were changing your wallpaper daily or very regularly as it would be a bit of a hassle having to do this every time you wanted to change your wallpaper.
    Hope this Helps!

  • MS Word: This file is read-only. To save a copy, click OK, and give the document a new name in the save dialog box.

This is not a question. I believe I've found a new issue and the fix for it.
    The situation:
A brand new iMac 27" running Yosemite 10.10.1
    MacMini server running 10.8.5 server.
    The issue:
Client on iMac trying to work on MS Word documents stored on server was requiring him to save the documents to his desktop and then copy them back to the folder on the server. The exact error message was, "This file is read-only. To save a copy, click OK, and give the document a new name in the save dialog box."
The issue is unique to this computer in an office of 10 client computers and three servers.
    Attempted fixes:
Verified that the ".Temporaryitems" folder existed and the permissions were set properly.
Repaired permissions on the client and the network share.
    Definitive fix:
By default, Yosemite 10.10.1 uses SMB for connecting file shares. When I overrode the default and switched to AFP protocol, the issue went away.
I hope this helps someone else.
    Rob

That was it. What an operating system. It is very helpful to view files you are looking for. But if you have preview on you cannot save files.
