A Smorgasbord of Problems, or, Is It Just Better to Leave it For Dead?
I was on a bus trip yesterday afternoon when, in the middle of a song, the folder symbol popped up on my screen, informing me to go to Itunes support for further instruction. After doing so and reading the instructions, I attempted to restore it, only to have this barrage of problems:
1) First, I received a message that told me iTunes could not restore due to "Error 1418". I then went here (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304996) and completed these suggestions. This did not work.
2) I installed and reinstalled iTunes. This did not work.
3) I unplugged all other items connected to USBs, IE my photo printer. No go.
4) I did the whole "M computer -> Manage -> Device Manager" deal to no avail; while the iPod shows up on Windows, it only does on iTunes for a few seconds at a time before disappearing after I hit "restore", at which point I get this message : "There was a problem downloading the iPod software for the iPod "iPod". The requested source was not found."
Now, my iPod is blinking back and forth between the error screen with the folder on it, the Apple logo screen, and the charging battery screen. I don't think the battery's the issue, because it was fully charged as of this morning, and it won't charge on its own at a seperate non-computer outlet.
WHAT'S GOING ON?!? Seriously, any help would be majorly appreciated.

I have a problem with Imovie. Just brought an macbook 15 retina , iLife install and Imovie was working. I than did a data migration from my old macbook pro and now it crashes on start up. I tried to re-install from app store but no option to re-install, just installed and it greyed out.
Well, my two-month-old MBP has no qualms about booting from a no-name external USB HD I put together...
Given that is is a common point of failure, I would imagine a large Apple Store should keep a stock of HD's on hand.
Now since you're a bit desperate and the genie pops up til Saturday and you seem to be the enterprising kind, let's try an experiment: if you have room enough in the external HD and assuming it isn't a Time Machine volume, why don't you plug it in, stick the Install CD and see if the installer lets you select the external drive as the install target. If you can install Leopard on it, on top of the backup without reformatting, and the Mac can boot from the drive afterwards, at least you would have some functionality restored and would be able to pull your stuff from the internal HD. Apple says booting from USB drives is not supported but that does not equate to not possible; some brands do work. Risks? Always. You can always lose your backup. Like I said, a challenge for an enterprising gal....
Next time around, consider having a bootable external clone at hand for rainy days. I keep three myself...

error -43 when try playback on win7 64bits over the network QT that recide MacPro osx 10.5 however i can play with VLC player, This happend when the QT is inside a Folder with name longer 8 chars other files has no problem with long names just the QT nfs sharing
Never mind, I already found the solution myself.
What I did wrong was:
- not copying the master image to the nbi folder
- selecting the netinstall-restore.dmg image as source to copy to my HD.
The thing is, when you create a netinstall image for 10.5, the image itself is already included in the netinstall image so you don't have to do anything else.
With the 10.4 image however, you also have to copy the master image to the NetBootSP0 directory.
In the *.nbi folder contains an netinstall-restore.dmg file. But that is only to boot you to netrestore, it's not the image itself.
Other alternative is to copy the images to another folder that you share with AFP and adjust the configuration of netrestore like described in this manual:

This manual was also how I figured out that I forgot to copy the image to the NetBootSP0 folder. -
My Mac suddenly started getting a pop up message saying "There was a problem conecting to the server. URLs with the type "file" are not supported." My internet is working fine,no problem connecting. I just keep getting this message which I click off and continue working.
Open the Time Machine pane in System Preferences. If it shows that Time Machine is ON, click the padlock icon in the lower left corner, if necessary, to unlock it. Scroll to the bottom of the list of backup drives and click Add or Remove Backup Disk. Remove all the disks, then add them back. Quit System Preferences. Test.

This is the problem. My father just got an iPhone 5. He has a Macbook Pro 2009 with OS X 10.5.8. The iPhone is not compatible with this version since the iTunes is an older version as well. At our local Apple store in my home country, they told him he needs to upgrade (which I agree of) but that the memory of this computer is not enough to hold the newer OS.
Please help, he does not really agree with buying a new computer just because of the versions.

The little grey camera icon ( IMovie) is not working or allowing me to open my photos. I have no problem inserting video. Just won't let me open my photos. Any ideas?

Actually I have problem in adding music to be played across all folios, the problem happened when I just lock the ipad and open it, the publication is still opened and i can navigate it but the music is stopped, and cann't be continued. how can I fix it to be continued after opening the ipad and continue navigating the digital publication.

HELP! My iPod has some major problems and the warranty just ended!
My 20 GB iPod is about a year old since I got it for Christmas last year. I have never had any problems with it. Now about a week ago it went completely haywire.
It started when I went to play some songs. They would play for a few seconds and then it would freeze. It then got to the point where the songs would remain on 0 seconds, not playing. I tried doing the reset thing suggested on Support, but it just made things a whole lot worse.
Now, whenever the iPod turns on the Apple logo appears and then it goes straight to the folder with an exclaimation point. The hard drive also makes strange noises like it is booting up and then it makes strange clinking noises. Trying everything, I decided that I would hook it up to my pc and do a restore. Well, the Do Not Disconnect screen appeared on my iPod but nothing happened on my pc. It wouldn't recognize the iPod.
I was just wondering what could have possibly happened since it has worked fine for a year. The only things I could think are the new iPod update (11-17) that I decided to use about two or three weeks ago. Maybe the cold temperatures had something to do with it? Maybe I just need a new battery?
Should I take the iPod to my local Apple store? I don't know if it would be worth getting it repaired at a cost of over $250.
Windows XPCorey, I just had the exact thing happen to me today. I've spent hours toying with it by following all of the recommendations on the support site - no progress.
I didn't do the software update prior to the problem occurring, so I'll bet that has nothing to do with it.
Do you have any other ipods running off of the same PC? My wife recently installed her nano on this same PC.
It did dawn on me that the problem started on Jan 1, but it might just be coincidence - I'm like you - I'll take any clues.
I get one break, though. Mine was purchased 10 months ago.

I have an iphone 4, when I plug in headphones I can pick up music and only background sounds, but no voices. It happens on every video or movie I see, but music works perfectly fine. Did anyone else have this problem or was it just me? If not can anyone help me?

It sounds like your vocal audio is not working with your headphones connected to your iPhone. I would start with the troubleshooting from the following article to help troubleshoot them named:

Update your software
Install the latest version of iOS. You can see which version is on your iPhone by going to the About screen.

I did a search on this error code (c0000005) and there seems to be a workaround but no solutions, why is this? I ask that because this problem seems to be years and years old, going back to at least 2005 (do the math that is 10 years).
I don't even have the Camera hooked up and I get this error on download. I redownloaded everything and reinstalled. I allso saw the AVI issues reported with this proble so i updated Quicktime though without the camera being hooked up when I get this error I didn't expect that to work. I tried support and they wouldn't help because I bought it in March this year. Pretty frustrating as I have re-purchased Elements about every 2 years. I think I might need a new CODEC? I had this problem on an Earlier version And I seem to remember that being the Fix but this may be something completely differentI finally found that it was missing a picture so the Catalog was "corrupted". I just deleted the picture and it started working.
I hate Adobe and their total lack of support - thanks for nothing Adobe . Also get this - they offered me to upgrade to 13.0 ( My 12.0 is only 6 months old but they still don't support it on errors. Only install errors!

No sound from laptop speakers after Windows update installed Realtek HD Audio
Laptop is HP6626US with Windows Vista 32 bit SP2. I had an error with Windows Update which was recently fixed. When I ran the update Realtek HD Audio was installed, among many other items. I now have the red circle white X by my speaker icon and do
