A solaris newbie have many question!!!

Our school got a SunFire V40z server & some Thin Clients today. And when i powered on the server, the clients are not working. That mouse and keyboards were making no sense. I saw the LCD screen of the server. There were a text: "booting". I restarted the server again and again... How can i get my clients worked? pls help me

    I have many questions, and have had a very frustrating time to get in touch with the correct person.
    I have called support twice, both times even though it was a technical question about cloud, they refused to forward my calls and told me there is NO technicall support for Cloud and that I have to place my questions here in the forum.
    I am CONTINUALLY told to change my password, 2 and 3 times a week.  I am a sysAdmin, my passwords are a MINIMUM of 13 Char/UP/Lower/Number/Special Combo, always have been. They work out to a 100% approval in any algorythm checker.   Yes, I was one of the persons who had their password stolen which has caused me a tad bit of inconvenience, but such is life.   Is This Normal? I have gone on twitter a few times to verify the emails, I have got them so often.
    My "Cloud Sync" Hasn't worked since PhotoShop's Site Closed, I know this beause I stored my 20gigs of files, .ai,  and .eps, .psd eveything that I couldn't move to Revel (which btw, I never got a refund for having to purchase the revel account 20gigs, when photoshop was closed, which also was never refunded.) 
    I actually wasn't too worried about the cloud issue because I only work at home, if I go somewhere else.. work's not going with me

    However it should be noted at this time, I did not invoke Dreamweaver, the Cloud did, and this is not the first time.
    This particular error occured 5 times in 3 seconds.
    Same two errors at 3:49pm on the 28th.
    Today, I went and bought a new solid state drive. Brand New Fresh OS, Downloaded Cloud, CC, and of course The Edge Products, which I dearly love btw.       Everything seems to be working fine, EXCEPT,
    1.) where did CS6 Products Go?
    2.) Why after being a Faithful Product User/Cloud Supporter for the Last two years, after going through all the trials and tribulations with Adobe, am I being asked to renew my license for a "One Time Per Year Fee" which is MORE than my monthly amount? ( deal: 599.80; payments at 49.95 per month is 599.40 Go Figure? ) So, I'm being asked to pay the same amount, make it a single payment and get half the software, litterally.   Did I miss a paticularly important anouncement?
    3.) EVERYONE OF MY IRREPLACABLE FILES IN MY CLOUD ALL MY AI FILES, are gone. Yesterday, it would seem My having the SYNC TURNED OFF was over-ridden by the system (Adobes) and they have upload 'garbage' files, and my original files, the caligraphy files are no longer there. My gorgeous image of a little boy with flowers is no longer there. I PAID ALMOST A GRAND for these files. Stored them on Adobe, because, well, you deal with images, so you're the best right, that's why I bought extra storage on photoshop.com, then was told I would have to move to revel, but not the ai, eps, or pdf and i don't remember about png's. files, so I moved everything to revel (purchased the extra storage there.) AND put everything on the cloud and turned off my file sync.  Not everyone is an idiot, maybe something is turned off, there's a reason for it, how dare someone override MY SETTINGS. They could have emailed, called, chat, google chat, irc, or snail mailed me, it's pretty easy to get my attention.
    I could just cry.

    asked to pay one time instead on monthy, and there's not even a discount and no additional incentive. Lost the ability to work without having to be connected to the internet, which will be delimited here very shortly since I'm on comcast.
    and the worst, the very absolutely worst part is this is the SECOND time in a row now, I've had an issue with Adobe that has gone on for over a year while support TELLS ME A PAYING CUSTOMER, that 'gee, sorry, no support for cloud" , "No I can't forward you to a tech" (direct quote) and "The Only support for any cloud issues is the forum"
    How can I handle this in the future, my nerves just can't take it anymore. Seriously, I'm just shaking now I'm so upset about this and I really hate writing something like this, or airing issues in public that really should be, imho, private.

    Thank you for your response, When I go to the Archives, it states I have none. In addition, previously when I'd tried to move items to the archive, they just disappeared  
    Currently my desktop is not connecting at all, Everytime I connect, it's states "We have now logged you out" and requests I login again.
    I have of course rebooted,
    Gone into taskmanager, killed all the relevant threads,  tried again to login through the desktop, no luck, I'll have to uninstall it, make sure the threads are killed, then reboot it and then reinstall it, but I've not had the time to do that.
    On another note, and just as a point of reference, myself, personally, I hate these "cloud" file repositories (not to be confused with adobe cloud services which I love) but the file repositories themselves imho, are a blackhole of resource usage when one doesn't/isn't using them,
    Is there a way we can use it more of a "ftp" sort of thing, when I want to I can  put files there?  There is no way to "Download" the repository, no way to download the folders.. only individual files and then it takes I think three different steps before the download starts.. I find this very inhibiting.  Just an fyi. for what it's worth.

  • Love the Cloud Idea, but I have Many questions about it

    I love the Adobe Cloud Idea, but I was wondering if it is the right for me. I have a very peculiar situation, my job takes me to many different places around the world.
    - My Next job is taking me to Peru and I noticed that it is not on the available countries. I live in the US and I will subscribe from here, but if I go to Peru, would I be able to use it from there, before the 30 day renewal? And what about If I spend 3 month? I read somewhere that I ony have to have an internet connection, but does that mean that if I am in peru with internet nothing will happen? or does it mean that I ned an internet connection and able to be in a country that it is available? and how does the 30 day work? if I am subscribed, do I need to re do everything or it basically confirms that I have "cloud installed" and then just charges me?  
    - Another question that I have is more about how does the subscrition work. I subscribe from my Deskop, can I use it on my laptop? The question goes mainly because sometimes I work from home on my desktop, sometimes I use my laptop at work, sometimes on my lapotp in a different country and sometimes with someone else laptop. So am I able to go back and forth from desktop to laptop and different computers?. I think technically the question is, The subscription is for the Account Or is it for the IP address meaning that only one computer can use it.
    - Something that was told to me at work but was definetly differentfrom my understanding is the subscrition. My understanding was that I can use it for a month, pay that month, the next month unsubscribe - don't pay, and the next one pay it again and be able to use it. Somebody from work told me that they are annually and not monthly. I though you had both options, which one is true?

    This is something that even though it's not a huge issue, But I watched a lot of videos for the realease of this all with Adobe spokepersons and the way it was advertised was that you can pay 49.99 for one month have it all and the next month if you don't want to use it you don't have to and come back in another month and it will be the same with the 49.99. again I love the idea, but that for me was false advertising and really got me nervous about it because I do not know what will happen in the Future with all of this.
    Everything I do usually comes from my own pocket my job pays for my some stuff but I am a contractor for them so the whole cloud Idea was brilliant I would include the 50 dollars in the pricing for that job whneI get a job from them, WIth the Info I am getting I would first have to pay more and not only that I am stuck Paying the 50 dollars for a year which comes to less than buying the softwae but still means that even If I am not working on it I would still have to pay.

  • IPhoto 6: Just installed and have many questions!

    I have just installed iLife 06, and my life seems to be much more difficult. Am I missing something here? Hope someone can help me.
    1) When I installed iPhoto 6, I was asked to upgrade my Library so that iPhoto 6 can read it, so I did. What I noticed it did, was to replace the files that were originally sorted out by Date folders in iLife 05 to 2 main folders Originals and Modified, then sub folders by year then by Roll. I like the old way of organizing by date, because that way I am able to find my photos in the hard drive quite easily. How should I find my photos now in the hard drive? Why did Apple decide to organize the photos by Roll instead of by date?
    2) When the library is updated to Version 6, I understand that the library will not be opened in iPhoto 5 anymore. But for some logistic reasons, I need to be operating using iLife 05 in my iBook for the next 1 year. What should I do now? Do I have to re-import the jpg files into my iPhoto 5 and retag all my keywords to the photos and lose all my previous organization?
    3) There are a few photos that have lost the link to the original photos: i.e. I can see the thumbnails in iPhoto Library, but when I tried to see in edit view, it shows no photos. How can I correct that? How can I locate all photos that have broken link?
    4) There are at least 20 photos in my Library that when I try to open them in Edit view, iPhoto would crash. Why is that so? Are the photos corrupted?
    Hope someone can enlighten me. It seems that iLife 06 gives me more problem than iLife 05. Can I reinstall iLife 05 back? If yes, how?

    How should I find my photos now in the hard drive?
    This new system comes in with iPhoto 6, and is expected behaviour. If you wish, you can set up your own file structure and still work with iPhoto 6, but in the meantime to find your files you can
    1: Right (or Control) -Click on a pic and select 'Show File'. A new Finder window will open with the file selected.
    or
    2. Export the files to the Desktop (File -> Export)
    or
    3. Drag and Drop the pics to the desktop (or indeed any folder where you want them)
    Of course, exporting and dragging and dropping will create a copy of the pic at the destination.
    iPhoto is designed so that everything you need to do can be done via the iPhoto WIndow. It is strongly advised that you do not move, change or in anyway alter things in the iPhoto Library Folder as this can cause the application to fail and even lead to data loss

    Unfortunately, yes. iPhoto 5 cannot read the v6 library.

    Try rebuilding the thumbnail and Library database - hold down the apple and option key when you launch the app and the resulting dialogue box will give you the maintenance options.

    They may be, though I don't know why. Do you have Graphic Convertor? Try export them or drag and drop them to the desktop, open them in GC and use Save As to save them as jpegs again. Then re-import them. This sometimes works.
    It seems that iLife 06 gives me more problem than iLife 05. Can I reinstall iLife 05 back?
    Yes you can. Simply drag the app to the trash, then go to HD/Library/Receipts and trash any file there with iPhoto in the title. Then re-install 5 from your original disk. However, while there may be a learning curve, in my experience 6 is superior in every way to 5, faster, more features, more stable.

    I have a great PB 40GB 800 mhz model from Ebay but the owner left all his documents, files, etc. He said he had everything that he needed from it. My questions are:
    This laptop has 10.3.9; I have install disks for Tiger. Will the installation of Tiger just wipe out all his files, etc. without me having to take extra steps?
    How, if possible, can I keep the Filemaker Pro, Photoshop and Illustrator that he left?
    Can I keep some of the music in his iTunes by just copying onto external USB drive?
    When trying to "Get Info" about the specs the button doesn't activate. Does this happen because the battery is so low and needs replaced? (I got a warning that the PB is operating on backup battery. I've already tested that the backup battery is good; the clock settings remained current)
    It's pretty dirty/dusty; Is there a cleaning process that's recommended for the display, case and inside the keyboard?
    If I'm moving with a friend that has wired PC setup, and DSL connection how do I go wireless on the Internet?
    Also, he wants to switch to a VOIP phone setup like I have. Will a modem accommodate all that?

    Yes, if you choose Erase and Install, it will erase everything currently on the HD and install Tiger.

    That would not be legal if he did not include the original discs.

    First step in the process is being careful, especially inside the PB. Outside, you can use a very slightly dampened soft cotton type cloth and simply wipe it down. I prefer distilled water so it doesn't leave residue. Inside the keyboard, if you must, try a Q-tip.

    So, for the last two months, I have been getting emails offering me a free "upgrade" to the X1 platform.  My current setup:3 Tivo DVR's - two 4 tuner and one 2 tuner  Mainly use one of the 4 tuner boxes and the 2 tunerStandard def cable box that is not connected, 105Mbit Internet, Xfinity Voice The Tivo's work real good, but are costly at nearly $60/month for their service Plus the 9.99 cable card fee each. My questions on X1 If I were to go to a single X1 DVR, and two X1 "Terminal Boxes" (That's what the local xfinity store called them), What do the terminal boxes use from the main DVR?  To clarify, If the DVR is recording 4 channels I was told it could view one other.  In a situation like that what could the Terminal boxes view at that time?  Could they only see one of the 5 channels (the four recorded ones or the live one) or could they stream something else that was recorded earlier?  Could they stream on demand content or streampix content?   The local xfinity store said I could only have 1 X1 DVR in my household, but from what I've been reading here, several people seem to have two, so was the rep at the local store wrong? Thank you in advance for any answers or recommendations.   Rick  

    The situation in regards to available tuners and recordings is changing rapidly. X1 DVRs just activated the 6th tuner and they placed a priority on recording over live TV. So at the moment you can record 6 programs as long your are watching one of the 6 recordings.
    There are two X1 Companion boxes. The Xi3 is the more desireable Companion box but it does "steal" a tuner from the X1 DVR in order to watch live TV. Please study the comparison because it will answer your questions: http://customer.xfinity.com/help-and-support/cable-tv/x1-hub-vs-companion-box/
    Multiple DVRs are allowed in most markets but some still don't. I have three but I had to pull strings. Please be aware that multiple X1 DVRs are not independent. They pool their resources. You cannot "hide" the recording list on one DVR from the other X1. You can prevent the actual playback but all X1 boxes in the house will see the record list on all DVRs.
    Pricing aside, most people would agree that TiVo is a vastly superior DVR to the X1 DVR. The X1 DVRs have an almost appalling lack of basic features and flexibility. They have almost no adjustments over guide views. Ability to customize favorites is extremely limited and inflexible.
    I would STRONGLY recommend that you spend more time reading in this forum. I also think that you should go to a Comcast location (or a friends house) and test X1 before you order.

  • Magnet destroyed my hard drive, I have many questions about my options.

    Ok, so I didn't realize my air condition remote was magnetic and I set it on my computer and bam my whole computer crashed. Now when I put my install dvd to boot up from, the drive makes some weird noises and then the DVD gets booted. And before you ask, its the drive needle making a sound and not the optical drive. I have a time machine backup from a few weeks ago so all my information is saved.
    So, I have insurance with state farm for accidental. If my claim goes through and apple installs the new drive, will I be able to get Lion back on my computer? I started out with snow leopard and installed lion via the app store.
    If for some reason doing the claim process will take forever or they don't accept it, as easy as this sounds can I just buy a new drive on amazon for like 50 bucks. (From what I looked at) Install the new drive myself and then bootup from the snow leopard dvd I have? Then log into the app store install lion and then hook up my external hard drive and restore my laptop back to its old self??? Or is it possible I can use a Lion time machine backup in snow leopard and when its done it'll be Lion?

    Of course. If you have a Mid 2010 or newer MacBook Pro, you have OS X Recovery, that allows you to reinstall OS X Lion even if it's not installed in your hard disk. To start in Internet Recovery, hold Command, Option (Alt) and R keys while your computer is starting. In this mode you will be able to format the hard disk and install Lion.
    If you have an older computer, you will have to install Snow Leopard and upgrade to Lion. To do it, first update to OS X 10.6.8 in  > Software Update, and then, open App Store > Purchases to download Lion.

    You can do that without any problem. You can use a backup created in Lion with Snow Leopard, but it's not recommended because it's possible that Snow Leopard won't work correctly. You have to restore the backup after upgrading to Lion, or from Internet Recovery, so you won't have to install Lion

    So when i start up Logic Pro it gives me this message:
    Error Reading/Writing file"com.apple.logic.pro.cs":
    Logical End-Of-File reached during read operation.
    i have no idea what this means, and gives me no other options except to cancel, and when i press cancel it gives me this:
    "The Preferences are not loaded completely
    do not save them , as you would overwrite the Preferences file with incomplete data."
    and once again give me no other choices then to press ok....
    and when i quit out it gives me this message:
    "The Preferences Are Not Loaded Completely.
    Save them to apple.com.logic.pro.cs anyway?"
    i dont know what i should do and i need help with this right away!!!!!

    Open the Preferences folder (it's in your home directory's Library) and trash the Logic preferences.

    Are these tracks that are on your old iPod still in your iTunes library? If so, just configure them to sync to your iPod Touch.
    Otherwise you'll need to copy everything from the old iPod to your PC and into iTunes first. See this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering the different methods and software available to assist you with the task of copying content from your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes.

    1)Is MSN compatable with MacBook programming?
    2)Can you run downloading programs such as Limewire on MacBooks or do you have a downloading program on there?
    3)Are there programs out there to change things over so I can use accessories that are only compatable with Windows? (my mp3 player for example)
    4)Are their any disadvantages to having a MacBook Laptop?

    No, you can't change the default naming scheme. You can do it yourself if you extract the pages using a script instead of using the built-in command.

    I don't think so. Unless it's in the settings, there's not much that can be done.
    are they using wifi on the train? If so, maybe switching to cellular. There are devices like the Mifi, which is a battery operated portable wifi hotspot that they can connect their device to.
    If the wifi on the train is solid, I know I've had issues using certain hotspots. For example, my yahoo mail simply will not pull down via the mail app if I'm on some AT&T hot spots. But if I go in via safari then it works. So if the signal is good, maybe using a different way can help.
    Or maybe looking for a mail interface that isn't apple's. There are others in the app store that may have better function or more control.

  • Urgent: Solaris newbie question: group permissions etc

    I have a question on what is the best practice of working with solaris users and permissions. I'm using Solaris 10 and have created several users each with their home directory in /export/home. Then i have installed the sun webserver under /export/home/sun/webserver and i want all users to be able to use this, execute or copy over to the webserver.. would this be a valid solution or good practice solution tht i crete a group give it the permissions to read/write/execute and all the users i want to give this privilege to will be under this group. but then whats the use of having root like how would root user be different from the rest now...

    If you just want them to be able to publish to the web, apache has a little built in script in the httpd.conf that will hook in a user directory. Read the /etc/apache/httpd.conf file for more info.
    Whether this is best practice I am not sure. What you suggest will work but I would avoid it.

    no, that's incorrect.
    you can activate on 1 mac and 1 pc, or 2 pc's, or 2 mac's, concurrently.
    i have cc installed on 2 pcs and 1 mac.  i can only activate 2 at any one time which works well for me because my pcs are at home and my office and i use them most of the time.
    but when i travel i take my macbook so i just deactivate one or both of my pcs (uninstalling is not needed) and sign in to my macs cc app.
