A strange one-can recieve email, but not send

Okay, I have a powerbook G4 with an airport (graphite) and a siemens wireless gateway/modem provided by T**us
my mom's ISP. She can get on the internet okay (providing the signal doesn't get dropped, which it does) and downloads are fine, and she can recieve email, but not send. I have tried changing the smtp port to 587 from 25. Nothing from the activity monitor and no "whoosh". I have also tried setting up a new account (pop3) which the connection
doctor says is okay for sending and recieving. Any suggestions before I spend an hour or so with T**us' tech support
which for Macs isn't that good--frankly, I think the airport needs to be out of the picture---maybe it's fighting with the gateway???

Hi John: Did you get the "Send" issue figured out with your computer? If not, here are some things to check out. It sounds like you are using Telus. If so the settings for incoming and outgoing servers is as follows: Incoming > "pop.telus.net" Outgoing > "smtp.telus.net". Server port is 25, with no SSL enabled.
Good Luck

i assume the email account is your iCloud email account. have you tried turning off settings > iCloud > mail, restarting the phone and then re-enabling mail again.

You'd probably get a quicker answer to this if you post it in the iPod Touch forum. You'll find it here: Discussions - iPod Touch

  • Mac mail v. 8.2 can recieve email but not send

We just got set up for ATT Uverse.  I tried to set up our email to come in on our Mac.  I have done it automatically, manually, any way possible and tried everything at ATT website to no avail.  I can receive emails but they won't send.  I get the message "Cannot send message using the server smtp.mail.att.net:[email protected]" "The attempt to send data to the server "smtp.mail.att.net" failed.  I tried connection doctor on mail and the ATT Yahoo!IMAP server is successful but the trying to log into the att.net SMTP account fails.  Verify username and password are correct.I am ready to pull my hair out, please help!!

No guarantees, but try this, in order:
Mailbox > Take All Accounts Offline
Mailbox > Take All Accounts Online
Mailbox > Get All New Mail
Sometimes, it seems that Mail may lose contact with a mail server and not try to re-establish contact with it. So I'll have to perform the above to "encourage" Mail to re-check its surroundings.

  • Iphone will not email? I can recieve them but not send them.

Iphone will not email. I can receive emails but not send them

If you can receive them, but not sen, check your SMTP settings (which are used to send), not your POP3 or IMAP settings which are used to receive.

  • My Iphone 4s can recieve messages but not send them

As above, I can recieve messages, but not send them, I have no idea what is going on and I haven't even done anything to it, it randomly just stopped working one day, I've tried resetting network settings, switching it on and off, switching on and off everything related to the internet... still nothing.
It also won't connect to the EE internet network but wifi is fine?
    Please help Im getting frustrated

Also, to add, when it asks me to sign in to my apple ID it keeps saying my password for my email is wrong, when it's not, I checked it 5 times, entered the exact same password on the computer and it worked there.

  • After installing the new Yosemite OS on my iMac I can no longer send email. I can receive email, but not send. I use gmail and can send email on the gmail (google) site, but not on "mail" on my iMac. Any others with this problem? What should we do?

After installing the new Yosemite OS on my iMac I can no longer send email. I can receive email, but not send. I use gmail and can send email on the gmail (google) site, but not on "mail" on my iMac. Any others with this problem? What should we do?

My gmail, which is correctly configured for Mail with gmail SMTP and Google IMAP, works for awhile on Mail, which I leave open while working on other applications. But several times a day I get msg from Google: "We recently blocked a sign-in attempt to your Google Account" . . . and requiring me to verify my account details, re-enter passwords, confirm security settings (or change them from "disable" to "enable less secure methods" and so on). In Mail I also have tried "taking all accounts online", and re-entering my gmail password inside Mail account settings. These steps successfully re-set comms between gmail and Mail ... for awhile, then it happens again. Enough occurrences over a work day that I just quit Mail and revert to accessing gmail directly. Apple Care advisor and an Apple knowledge base article say that Apple can't deal with this, as gmail is third-party app, and they refer me to gmail, and so far I've found nothing helpful there.
From today I also have several instances of a window saying "Mail has unexpectedly closed" and asking me to Re-open it.
I also use Yahoo mail, which stops working with Mac Mail at the same time as gmail, but I do not receive notices to re-verify from Yahoo.
I recently upgraded from Mavericks to Yosemite. The Mail problem happened occasionally with Mavericks but is far more frequent with Yosemite.

I'm in Lion 10.7, and can receive emails, but not send.

Check in Mail Prefs>Accounts - check that the outgoing server is correct.

  • I can recieve email but cant send anyone know how to sort this

can anyone help i can recieve email but have stopped being able to send its only recent and very anoying as i have to go through hotmail to send now

If this just started, and before you could send and receive just fine, then it is a problem with Mac Mail.
It is IMHO one of the Worst Mail programs ever written.
You are not alone this ends up happening to a lot of Mac Mail users, for No good reason.
It is not you ISP, it is not your settings. It is Mac Mail just decides to stop allowing you to send mail.
If you want it to never happen again stop using Mac Mail and find another Mail program. Any Other Mail program.

  • Zimbra Server - can receive email but not send

I need to connect to a Zimbra Server for secure email - I can receive email but not connect. I get a connection refused error for sending email.
    I am using a G4 mac, Mac Mail, OS X 10.4.11, AT&T dsl service.
Can anyone tell me what settings need to be changed to make the connection for outgoing email?
    Thanks!
    John

I don't have a Zimbra server to try to connect to, but I see directions for setting up Zimbra for Mac's Mail elsewhere, like near the bottom of this page...
    http://its.lafayette.edu/help/email/zimbraclientupdate
I see this one uses Port 465, which is different than the last one I checked.

    Hello Carol.
Although possibly not related to your problem, I will remind you that the version of Firefox you are using at the moment has been discontinued and is no longer supported. Furthermore, it has known bugs and security problems. I urge you to update to the latest version of Firefox, for maximum stability, performance, security and usability. You can get it for free, as always, at [http://www.getfirefox.com getfirefox.com].
As for your issue, you need to provide more information. Firefox is not an email client. You may be having a problem with the email client you use, or with the site you are using to handle emails...

  • I can receive email but not send emails

Hi, i have swapped my isp to BT , ever since this i can receive emails but am unable to send , BT have to me this is a apple email app setting that may
need changing any help ou there please .
    Many thanks

    Hello,
Who is your eMail provider, the part after the @ sign?
In Mail's Window Menu, choose Connection Doctor, any red dots for status, if so what is the message?
Then click the Show Details button & Check again.
    The receiving email ports are:
    IMAP is port 143
    IMAP-SSL is port 993
    POP is port 110
    POP-SSL is port 995
    Outgoing ports are...
SMTP and SMTP-SSL is on ports 25, 587 and 465. Port 587 has to be SSL, and port 465 is enforced TLS-wrapped and is generally used by Outlook users.

  • I am visiting Germany from U.S. I can receive email but not send it

HI I am visiting Germany from U.S. I can receive emails on my eyepad but cannot send! Any suggestions?

Try to not use the mail app but rather use your service's webmail interface. For example, my mail is through yahoo. If I have issues with the mail app I can use safari and go to yahoo.com and access my mail that way.
