A successful installation on Windows XP Professional SP2

I have had partial success installing before.
This time i created an D:\oraclexe director with the followin INHERITED permissions:
ravn\Administrators : Full Control
Authenticated users : Read & Execute, List Folder Content, Read
System : Full Control
I made sure that C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts contained the IP address and name of the PC. It also contained localhost IP address and name.
Installation went like a charm. Even the Database Home Page works.
I suspect that most problems with Oracle XE installations on Windows XP can be solved with the proper inheritable access rights. Errors in network configuration excepted.
greetings,

.Net uses oledb connection. The connection string used on the WinXP system results in the ORA-12154 error on the WinXP x64 system.

  • Java_es_05q1-windows-x86 install fails 1628: Failed to complete installation on windows xp pro sp2

    Hi All,
I'm trying to install Java ES 2005Q1 on my windows xp pro sp2 notebook, but it always breaks with this error message: 1628: Failed to complete installation
I realized that the SUNJavaES.log always ends at line 151 which is 131077 characters long.
    These are the last few characters of this line: ..." AD_MANUAL_ES_CONSOLE_HELP=D:\Sun\JES2005Q1\Server-Root\manua l\es\console\help\ AD_MANUAL_FR_ADMIN=D:\Sun\JES2005Q1\Server-Root\manual\fr\ad min\ AD_MANUAL_FR_ADMIN_HELP=D:\Sun\JES2005Q1\Serve "
I attached the last log file.
This line always breaks at the 131077th char independently of the content of it. I tried to skip some components of JES to see what will occur. The current content of this line obviously was different, but it has broken at the same point.
Thanks in advence for any help.

This could be due to a known issue with length of installation path
Can you try and install in a location with less than 8 characters ?

I have problem installing oracle 10 g on Windows XP Professional. When the installation goes to "Configuration Assistants", it shows three options, Oracle Net configuration Assistant, Oracle Database Configuration Assistant and iSQL *Plus Configuration Assistant. However, the status of "Oracle Net Configuration Assistant" keep showing "In progress.." for more than 6 hours. • SQL Server Installation on Windows 7 Professional sp 1

    Hi Everyone,
I have windows 7 professional sp1 installed on my pc.
I am planning to install SQL server 2008 on my pc.
As I am using sp1 os, I have to install SQL server 2008 sp1 also.
I have enabled .net framework 3.5, installed sql server 2008, and sql server 2008 sp1.
But when I tried to connect to server I am getting the below error.
The below is services state information.
Thanks and Regards, Readers please vote for my posts if the questions i asked are helpful.

I am getting an error like "this is used by another application" when I tried to delete the entries starting with "Microsoft.SqlServer".
Can you please help me on this.
    Hi G Srikar Reddy,
Please ensure that you have uninstalled  SQL Server 2008 instance and other SQL Server 2008 R2 components completely, and restart the computer.
Besides using the Windows Installer cleanup tool , you can also perform the following steps to uninstall
    SQL Server 2008 manually.
        a. Uninstall all SQL Server 2008 components ( including the entry "Support for SQL Server Setup") from the control panel.
        b. Backup the registry.
        c. Delete the following keys in regedit:
            --HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server
            --HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MSSQLServer
        d. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall and delete all the sub-keys referencing SQL Server.
        e. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services and delete all the keys referencing SQL Server.
        f. Rename all the SQL Server folders in the computer.
        g. Reboot the machine.
    Thanks,

  • 11g installation on Windows XP Pro SP2

    Hi!
The 11g database installation, unfortunately, does not work "out-of-the-box", like it does with 10g. The question is: Why can't the EM be installed with the DBCA?
    Scenario:
    1)
I had to install the EM Agent first, before installing the database software. When creating the database, the DBCA did show a EM control address: http://localhost:4889/em. EM agent service running. However, when trying to access; web page cannot be found?
    2)
I ran a new installation of the software and then created a new database instance. Worked fine and after creating a listener, the listener could not be started. A Windows error message appeared. In any case, the listener has been properly created, but can' t be started? (I cannot post the listener script right now!)
    Please help!
    Thanks!

Enterprise manager is configured on a per database basis. Regarding the listener issue, once the listener has been configured you must start it from the command prompt, just exactly it was on previous releases, this will create a service entry at the windows services console, and you should verify this is marked to be automatically started. In case you are unable to start the listener, could you please post the related error messages?

  • Problem installing Oracle 11g on Windows XP Professional SP2

I removed my Oracle 10g express from my XP Professional according the
    the blog at
    http://aricsblog.blogspot.com/2005/08/uninstalling-oracle-10g-manually-from.html
Then I downloaded win32_11gR1_database.zip (1824539KB) from oracle and
    unzipped it.
If I click either setup.exe or oui.exe, a dos console pops up and
    shows the following:
    Starting Oracle Universal Installer...
Checking monitor: must be configured to display at least 256 colors
    Higher than 256 . Actual 4294968296 Passed

It hangs there for about 1 minute and disappears, and nothing
happens. Tried it a few times, and every time it was the same
    behavior.
Am I missing anything critical? How can I install 11g on XP Pro?
    Thank you very much.

  • Windows XP Professional SP2 x64 Edition BootCamp Drivers?

    01. i start Boot Camp, created a second partition (101Gb for windows)
    02. reboot back to vista formatted this partition in ntfs
    03. reboot in Mac OS X, run Boot Camp and start installation WinXP x64
everything turned out well, but I found some of the Boot Camp drivers are not installed
where i may find Boot Camp drivers for WinXPProSP2 x64?

Windows XP x64 is actually based on Windows Server 2003. If you could find Server 2003 x64 drivers, you'd be set, as those should work. You might be able to use vanilla intel drivers, but don't quote me on that.
Also, did you check Windows update?

  • Setup.exe from Boot Camp won't work with Windows Xp Home SP2

    Hi,
I just bought the great MacBook Pro. So I work over years in Windows it's absolutliy necessary to migrate my old System to MacBook. I succeeded in cloning my old installation completly to the MacBook and Windows is activated. when I start windows, of course no MacBook drivers are installed, so I have only a minimum of functionality. Now I want to start the BootCamp to install the drivers. But if I start "Setup.exe" it's ending immediately with: There were errors... before Boot camp could be initialized.
I downloaded the newest BootCamp (3.1) and start it, the program crashes!
I can't get it working!!! What have I to do - please help me!
I use Windows XP Home SP2.
    Thanks!

If you didn't try installing Boot Camp from your OS X disc, try that first.
From what you wrote it sounds like you somehow cloned your old install of windows over to a fresh partition. Depending on how you did this, the problem might lie here.
First, what version of OSX are you running?
If your MacBook Pro is new, it should come with Snow Leopard, which wouldn't explain the problem.
How exactly did you clone windows over?
Depending on how you cloned windows, your easiest solution might be to back up any files and applications you need from windows, remove the current Windows partition, and create a new partition and installation of Windows through Boot Camp on OSX. Normally Boot Camp should install its drivers after a successful installation of Windows.

  • Lenovo G550 Windows 7 Professional Upgrade

This Notice refers to 2958-A5U and 2958-A4U models of the Lenovo G550 notebook PC’s only.
The 2958-A5U and 2958-A4U G550 systems ship preloaded with Windows XP Professional, and include a Windows 7 Professional upgrade disk.
Issue: When upgrading from Windows XP Professional to Windows 7, some users have been unable to successfully complete the upgrade.  The most commonly reported failure point is when the customer is asked to insert a Certificate of Authenticity (COA) key. The Microsoft Upgrade process for Win XP to Win7 requires the upgrade to be executed from a ‘cold boot’. If the Windows 7 DVD is inserted while the system is running, the installation process will auto run. However, at the end of the installation process, the system will ask for a 25-key Certificate of Authenticity (COA). The Win7 upgrade process will not successfully finish the installation using this method. The installation DVD must be inserted while the machine is powered off and not running.
When upgrading from Windows XP Professional to Windows 7, Microsoft advises that this process be done via a custom ‘clean’ installation.  Per Microsoft.com; "A custom (clean) installation erases the contents of your PC's hard drive. Your files, settings, and programs will not be transferred to Windows 7".  The clean install will remove any pre-loaded software applications, including VeriFace, One Key Recovery, and other applications that were installed by Lenovo or the user.
Customers should review the following information prior to performing the Windows 7 Professional upgrade.
The Windows 7 installation procedure provides a clean installation of Windows 7 Professional edition. During this process, all contents of the C: drive including all applications, files, programs and user data will be archived in the Windows.old folder.  The data should be available for access, but the applications and programs will not run, and Windows 7 appropriate versions will need to be installed. Lenovo STRONGLY recommends that external backups or all user data are made prior to initiating the upgrade in order to prevent permanent data loss.
    Correct Windows 7 Upgrade Procedure:
    1) Power off system
    2) Insert Windows 7 disk in the DVD drive
    3) Power on system and press F12 to access the boot order menu
    4) Select the option to start from the DVD / Optical drive
    5) Follow the on screen directions as Windows 7 installs
    6) Remove the DVD at the end of the process and reboot to Windows 7
Windows 7 has native drivers that will fully support most of the hardware on Lenovo G550 systems.  In order to maximize the functionality of the Trackpad and the Power Management system, the appropriate Lenovo drivers must be installed. The most current Lenovo Windows 7 drivers and applications are available for download here. Please check this site periodically for updates.
Recovering to Windows XP by using One Key Recovery:
The One Key Recovery feature can restore the factory XP downgrade preload at any time, but will erase all other data.
Important: All user data should be saved prior to implementing the following procedure
          1) Power off the system
    2) Press the recovery button (small round button next to the power button)
    3) System will start and OKR (one key recovery) application will load
    4) Select System Recovery from the menu
    5) Select option to Restore to factory default
    6) Click “Start” button to recover your system partition
    Cheers and regards,

The recovery disk set is supposed to have an SLP key embedded, so that you do not need to activate it, as long as the disk set matches the OS version that is nominated on the COA attached to the laptop.
If it really does say "windows 7 ultimate", then there is something odd going on. Can you please double check that it says "ulitimate"?
With Windows 7 licening issues and keys, the terminology needs to be quite exact to get to the best answer for you!

  • Installing on Windows XP Professional

I am trying to install Sun ONE Application Server software on Windows XP Professional. The installation documentation requires Windows XP Professional (Service Pack 2). I have Windows XP Professional (Service Pack 1). I cannot find Service Pack 2, and in Microsoft web site, when I navigate to the newest Service Pack for XP Professional, there are only 2 service packs (SP1 and SP1a). Is there such a thing as SP2, and where do I acquire it?

Actually, SP2 requirement is for Windows 2000 platform only, and not Windows XP. You should definitely be able to install on your system.
Installation guide contains correct information, but platform summary document is indeed mentioning "Windows XP Professional, SP2 or higher" which needs to be corrected.
