A Suggestion For Photos

This could apply to the other iDevices too, but anyway…
So in the Photos app, you have this menu when you select a photo to do an action. I'm on iOS7, so that'll be my model, but the lower menu has a bunch of grey buttons and from there, I can choose to add the selected photo (or photos) to Airplay, copy the file, assign it to a contact, or post it to a bunch of social network sites. Could they make it an option to add the photos to an album from this menu too?  I'm sorting through my photos and getting them organized into some albums, so I think I'm done. Then I do a double check and realize that I forgot to add a couple images, and I have a bunch of photos on my iPod so combing through all the thumbnails is pretty cumbersome. It gets frustrating looking through and not seeing the one I want to select.
I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be tough feature to add, and perhaps a rather minor one too. It's kind of like a reverse, instead of selecting the album you want to add to and then choosing the photos, you choose the photos to add to a selected album. If this has already been suggested, sorry… My (very quick, very lazy, ahaha,) search for any pre-existing forum or discussion didn't show me what I was thinking of.
And speaking of minor features, could the delete button for messages not be placed in such a hidden spot? Oh well, I suppose it's benefit for anyone who accidentally deletes texts they meant to save. (Been there, throwing in…)

Okay… Reading over, I don't think I feel my post was a little unclear on one part. When I talk about selecting the photos, I'm talking about when you're looking at the photo by itself and in the bottom left corner, there's an arrow pointing up with a square. The menu in there is where I think "Add to Album" could be added. I think it'll make it easier for the people with big photo libraries.

  • Need suggestions for photo printer that will work with a dedicated HP G4050 scanner on Windows 7

I was told by HP Tech Support that they didn't recommend I try to run an all-in-one printer and a dedicated scanner on the same PC.  Dilemma is that most photo printers sold today are also all-in-ones.   Also, many all-in-ones don't seem to rate very high on photo quality.   Do I end up buying two printers - one for text and another for photos or what?
Your input is welcome as I've researched this problem for a long time and don't know what printer to buy!  Thank you.

Yes, I do know that; but the basic driver doesn't allow all of the menu options on the printer to work.  For instance, it won't tell me how much ink is left in each cartridge, etc.
I'm debating whether to just keep my old Photosmart 8150 and keep plugging along until it dies and then worry about replacing it OR keep looking for a new one.
Problem is that HP Tech Support told me that they DON'T recommend I use an all-in-one printer AND a dedicated scanner together due to possible software issues.  Since most of the photo printers made this year seem to be AIO's it's been a very difficult experience finding an older printer that has a Full Solution Driver in WIN 7 and/or 8!  Oh, you can find some but they cost an arm and a leg even at used prices!
Anyone with experience using an HP dedicated scanner AND a printer is welcome to jump in and give me some feedback. Thank you so much!  : )

  • Storage suggestions for photos

Hello everyone I am new to lightroom so please for give me if this question was ask before.  I am using my computer as a combo video editing and Photo editing setup.  I using a raid 5 for my video editing work, and two 1TB drive setup as raid 1 mirror where my photos are located.  I am down to my last 325 GB that may sould a lot but I am planning on really taking off with my picture taking. I have a NAS were I also have my photos backed up.  I have not added my photos to Lightroom catalog.  I also have Photoshop. I understand it is better to have the photos located on the computer instead of external.  How dose Lightroom handle photos on multiple drives?Should I separate the two 1TB drives so I have two 2TB available and if so were to place lightroom Catalog folder?   Or should I make it easy on myself and just purchase a 2TB drives and place all the photos at that location?

If you click on one of the folders of your internal drive, then - in the Grid View - only the images of this folder will be displayed.
The Grid View shows all images that are on all your drives (and some with question marks) when you don't have a folder selected but - in the Catalog Panel - have "All my photographs" (or something similar) selected. You have to click on one of the folders to display only the photos that are in this folder.
To display only the images of your internal drive you have to display the top parent-folder that contains all folders (as sub-folders) that have images.
If you have such a parent folder - for instance the folder <My Pictures> (or whatever it's called on a Mac), you just have to display this parent folder in the folders panel. To do this right-click any folder of your internal drive and select <Show parent-folder). Do this repeatedly until the top-level parent folder for all your images is displayed. Then in the <Library> menu make sure that <Show photos in sub-folders> has a check-mark. If it doesn't check it. This means that all photos of all the sub-folders under this parent folder will be displayed when you click on the parent folder. This will then show all the photos on your internal drive - provided you have not solitary image folders sitting somewhere not under the parent folder.
If currently  you do not have such a parent folder for all your image folder, you have to create one.
You do this in Mac Finder: Create a folder, name it "Images on XYZ-drive". Then - still in Mac Finder - drag-and drop all your folders that contain images into that just created folder. So then all image folders will be sub-folders in this parent folder.
Now, in Lightroom you will see you  folders with question marks because you have moved the image folders outside of Lightroom.
Right-click the top-most folder and select <Update folder location>, navigate to the new location of the folder and click on it. Lightroom will - probably - find also the other folders in this parent folder. If not, you have to do the <update folder location> for each folder.
After this - in the folders panel - you should see the parent folder and all your image folders as sub-folders. When you click on the parent folder (and <Show photos in sub-folders> is checked) you will see all images on your internal drive.

together a photo gallery? I just want something simple that will
display the thumbnail images on the page with captions and to show

Using OSX 10.9.4 and want to have photoshop as my default for photos instead of Preview. Any suggestions?

In the Mac Finder, select the icon of any of your photo files and do a Get Info (Command i) on it. Then select the application you want to open your photo files, then Click on Change All.
You'll need to do this once for an icon of each file type, i.e. one on a JPEG file, one on a TIFF, one for PSD, one for raw files, etc.

  • Suggestions for NAS for home network and remote access to clients

I have a photo studio in my home and will need to get the digital files to my clients roughly once a week. i am currently using dropbox, but was thinking of purchasing a NAS that I could use for this purpose,as well as for my home network needs, mainly itunes and photos of the kid...
any suggestions for a mac friendly NAS , and how it can be accesed by my client over the internet?
can a NAS be accessed like a FTP site, using fetch or another FTP client?
    thank for any help.

    Hi Thomas,
I have had similar considerations and finally chose QNAP 439 Pro II over the many other ones out there (LinkSys, NetGear, Bufallo, etc.). Without going into technical details, the main reason for my choice were easy-of-use, functionalities and scalability:
    http://www.qnap.com/prodetail_feature.asp?pid=148
It's not the cheapest solution out there, but works great with the Mac, even acts as storage solution for TimeMachine (with latest firm ware). And implementing client access is easy.
    Hope this helps.
    Kind regards,
    Mark

  • HT201317 I have been waiting 2 hours for photos in photo stream to upload

I have been waiting 2 hours for photos to go from my iphone 4s to photo stream so i can turn on iPhoto in my computer and view them. they still have not appeared. this seems ridiculous to me. Can anyone impart to me what i am doing wrong?

I have rebooted both the computer(s) and the iOS devices. I have checked to make sure the IDs that i am signed in to the cloud with are the same. I keep thinking it must be some mis-set preference but all the info i find about setting it up seems to suggest i have done that part right too. Very frustrating.....

  • Good Monitor for Photo Editing in Photoshop?

I hope this question isn't too OT for this forum, but I would think that it's an important concern for Photoshop users.
I'm looking for a good monitor for photo editing in Photoshop -- photos that will be printed to 16"x20" and above. I have a limited budget, having invested most of my money in an Epson 7900 printer -- so I'm looking for the best monitor available for under $1000 US. I already have a 19" Samsung flat panel that I will use as my palette monitor in a two-monitor setup.
I have heard of a few good models by Dell in this price range.  Any other suggestions on size and brand? Thanks.

I haven't seen it myself, but I've read good test reports about the Dell Ultrasharp 2209WA. An IPS display which apparently pretty good colour stabiliy over the whole panel. No hardware calibration, though, but you can't expect this for less than 1000 bucks.

They can be seen in the app "over" which allows for art and lettering to be placed on a photo but I cannot find an album or year for photos before 2012 (in the photo app). The iphone says the photo content is there when I check in "about" under general in settings. So the pictures seem to be somewhere but I just can't access from from the photo app. Any suggestions. I also know that they were there before the iOS7 upgrade as I was looking for a pre 2012 picture last week and it we there.

  • Suggestions for 808 PureView and Symbian Belle

    Hi friends,
I am a proud owner of astounding (and worst marketed extra-ordinary device) 808 PureView. Biggest compliment to it is that it has replaced my SGS2. Yes, truly.
After using 808 for some time now I am quite happy but disappointed with certain things. Few things are so minor that I am surprised why Nokia removed it or didnt implement.
So here I am presenting a list of things which I would request Nokia to fix or implement. I will also request all of you here to add to the list so that Nokia gets a direct feedback and can improve the device and software. Thanks !

  • Laptop for Photo/Video editing via Photoshop CS5/Premiere

I am currently seeking a laptop strictly for photo/video editing.  I desire an i7 processor (Ivy Bridge is better from what I'm hearing but am not sure), dedicated graphics card (at least 3G video memory), a minimum of 8GB ram that is still expandable, a 17" 1920x1080 matte display with a wide color gamut, a 7200rpm drive and would absolutely love to find one with Windows7 as I personally cannot stand the new Windows8.  One other thing, I need the necessary ports available to hook to a larger monitor for more detailed work.  I was looking at the ASUS G75VW that BestBuy was carrying, which I hear has gotten good reviews (other than the sound driver issue that I hear is fixable) and here begins the other half of my dilemma.
At two local stores, I have went and looked at computers on display, and, although nice personalities abounded, when I started mentioning the above mentioned desires, every single employee I spoke with stood there and looked at me like a cow looking at a new gate before handing me a printout of "specs" off of the BestBuy website.  I pointed out several inconsistencies I had noticed on the "specs" (ie information left out, inconsistent information) and the looks only got worse, as if I had suddenly started speaking in tongues from planet "what the f...??".
All of this being said, I realize I could purchase a "designer" laptop from a myriad of other sites.  However, I was recently given a sizeable gift card, from BestBuy, and am limited in this aspect.  So, with an open mind, any suggestions, experience, recommendations anyone?
P.S. I have also considered the MacBook Pro, as well as the iMac 27" (yes, I know it's not a laptop but it's freakin' cool looking).  Despite the PC vs Mac MMA cage fights to the death, I don't care if it's a pc, apple, orange or a grapefruit as long as it's fast, reliable, upgradeable to a degree, repairable when it breaks and does what I need it to do.
    Thanks in advance!

I've only seen Windows 8, never used it, and it looked like a pain. But if I'm not mistaken, isn't there an option for it to function like a normal Windows machine with Desktop and Start menu/ bar?
The laptop you linked looks fine for running CS5. I'd max out that RAM for rendering reasons thats about it. The only thing is the graphics card is mid-range, and being a laptop you can't upgrade it. I don't know what your work load for file size is or what type of video your doing in Premiere though.
I like iMacs and everything, but when it comes to upgrading stuff, don't count on it. Depending on what your workin' on, I'd rather invest in a MacPro and pick my own monitor.
As far as Windows or Mac goes, you can obviously use either one, but I personally like the workflow on a mac. Windows seems to be more worried about being 'flashy' and not concerned with the user experience. Unfortunetly Macs are gettin there too. For some stupid reason people are thinking the workflow on a tablet and phone are the same on a desktop.

  • IWEB SUGGESTIONS FOR APPLE

First, if Apple actually takes the time to read these Discussions, let me say, "Thanks!" I love Apple.
Second, I don't claim to be an expert, nor do I consider myself a uber-geek with incredible technical prowess.
    I've just been playing around with iWeb, and have some suggestions for future updates, another 'Wish List' if you will;
    1. The improvements to iPhoto are numerous and impressive, but iPhoto could use just a more photo tweaking in the realm of jpeg sizing. This would help integrate it with many iLife apps, especially iWeb.
    2. GarageBand, likewise, also keeps getting better and better, but it too could use a little boost in the way it deals with file size and the overall affect on one's system. Just having the old 'go to GarageBand Help' popup gets a little frustrating. Optimizing should be more directly accessible in the user interface.
    3. Creating easy access to, and integration of third party 'add ons' would be a really great way to deal with the current iWeb blogging limitations. Just as with many other blog systems, users could choose which various plug in enhancements they want on their iWeb blog.
If Apple made blog plug-ins easy to do, everybody would win. As with FireFox, for example, a community of iWeb enthusiasts could help develop and build iWeb into a super powerful app, via such user chosen add ons. Perhaps iWeb could be 'opened' up just a bit more, to let some more community light shine in?
    That's just my two cents.
Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong or just plain crazy, or post your own suggestions.
    Thanks.
iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.4)   iBook, Airport, Original iPod, Bondi Blue, what about you?

Make sure you send your iWeb comments directed at Apple to them via the iWeb > Provide iWeb Feedback menu item. Ideas for Garage Band and iPhoto are better posted in the forums and feedback channels devoted to those programs than here.

  • Naming Suggestions for Albums

I just had surgery and so have a few weeks to sit at home. I would like to redo all of my albums in iPhoto (about 30,000 pix in three libraries).
Does anyone have any suggestions for a good album naming system? I have used "Thanksgiving 2005" for example in the past but I haven't been consistent. Before I start I thought I would see if any of you have found a surefire system that helps with sorts, etc.
    Thanks for your time!
    Denny

I probably have as many photos as you if not more, but I do not use keywords. Also, since many of my photos are scanned-in snapshots, the dates on many are the date of the scan, not the actual date. It was too daunting a task to redate them all.
My system is purely chronologic. I use iPhotoBuddy to create several separate libraries. My first one contains photos from the 1890's through 1978. It happens to be labeled 1920-1978 because that was the earliest date of my photos until we found the 1800s ones . Each of my libraries contains a maximum of about 6000 photos. I chose that number because the prior versions of iPhoto would get sluggish with more than that, and that size is not too large to work with. I now have 10 libraries; some are just one year, some are 2-3, and some are about 5 years of photos. In the earlier years, without digital cameras, the total number of photos for a year is way less than the current year with many digital photos.
I use albums to keep my photos organized for each year. My main reason for this is that I scanned in the photos at different times. Most of them came from our photo albums......one area of my life that has always been carefully organized. However, I would then run across some photos in picture frames, or other places and had to add them into the proper chronologic position. In the Events, and in the previous Film Rolls, the position of the photos cannot be moved as they can in albums.
I use albums to place each photo in its proper position. When I have finished with the positioning of all the photos for the year, I then number them. (I don't put the exact dates on them; I know they go from Jan to Dec, and from the content it is fairly easy to identify when they were taken. I really don't care if a particular photo was from March 4 or 16....I know it was after Valentine's Day and before Easter!). My numbering system is also very simple. I use 3 or 4 digits depending on how many total photos are in the album. For example, for 1985, my first three photos are: 1985-001, 1985-002, 1985-003. For 2007, my first three photos are 2007-0001, 2007-0002, 2007-0003. Numbering them consecutively keeps them in order when I export them to an external drive as backup or burn them to disks, so I would not have to resort them.
I use my albums when I make my iMovies for each year, so it is crucial for me to have the photos in the correct order chronologically. I make DVDs of each year....some years need 4-6 DVDs for all the activities, photos and videos, but some years are less eventful and I can get all our photos and videos on one DVD.
I do keep my photos in Events, labeled as to what they are, but I use that just for viewing the photos I want to see or show someone. I have a pretty good sense as to which photos are where, so I haven't really needed to make a search for specific photos except one time for a friend's anniversary. When I initially began to scan in my photos, I did put titles on them, but that became tedious and repetitious. I found I wanted to use the same titles for different photos of the same people or places. Keywords were not a part of iPhoto then. Now, my scanner just numbers the photos, so I have numbers on those and the digital ones. I do add descriptions to many of my photos, but I should add keywords as well. I may get to that after I finish my iMovie/DVD projects. I have about 10 more family movies to do first!
Whatever system you chose, it has to be one that works for you. My dad (on a PC)keeps his photos on two different drives and put them into folders by person. He is sorry now that he did it that way because he can't find anything. I helped him resort his more recent photos by date, since he now thinks that might be a better way of organizing. I tried to get him to consider how he thinks of the photos, and his response was that he liked the combination of people and years, so that is what he is using. I wouldn't like it, but it is working for him.

  • Zooming limit for photo

    Hi
Can anybody suggest, whether there is any way you can identify the optimum zooming level for photos while using kepburn effect, it does the zoom irrespective of the photo size be it a small image or high res image. Because of this when you see the final movie some photos are pixelated and some are really good.
Or the only way is eye judgement, if it looks grainy then reduce the zoom level? I am expecting something like after certain zoom level it wont let you zoom further..!!!???
    thanks in advance
    Sanjeev

Also please suggest how do I know that I am making 1x
zoom and 4.4x zoom any tips appreciated.
We set the zoom with the zoom slider in the Photo Settings window. It allows us use a zoom from 1.00 to 5.00. The slider zooms in on the original image.
More clarification from Karl Petersen, the last line
in your reply is still a bit confusing for me as I am
amateur here. In the last line you say 'we want to
aoid enlargina the chunk we grab with the Ken Burns
zoom' can you please elaborate on this for me.
I was afraid someone would ask.
When we use the zoom slider we essentially crop the image — grab just a portion of it to display in the clip. The image that's grabbed is always 640x480, no matter what zoom we use and no matter the size of the source image. Hold that thought.
iMovie quality is sacrificed whenever iMovie must enlarge or shrink the content to make the 640x480 clip. We want to avoid that. A little enlarging or shrinking is okay, but not a lot. Creating a 640x480 clip from a 4000x3000 image shrinks it a lot, which isn't good.
Instead of using iMovie's zoom slider to crop, it's actually better to use iPhoto's crop tool — set to a 4:3 aspect ratio for a DV project, 16:9 for wide projects — to crop the image to the content we want, then export that cropped image from iPhoto to a 640x480 image (for DV) that we import to iMovie. That delivers the best quality.
If we do not resize the image before importing it to iMovie, the size of the source image — its height and width, in pixels — suggest the ideal cropping zoom for that image. An image that's three times wider than 640, for example, suggests we use a 3x zoom to avoid sacrificing quality. In fact, a 3x zoom is ideal, for then iMovie doesn't have to resize the grabbed portion used to make the clip.
If, on the other hand, we use a 2x zoom on that same image, iMovie must shrink the grabbed portion to make it fit 640x480. If we use a 4x zoom, iMovie must resize the grabbed portion larger, so it fills 640x480. Both sacrifice quality.
So whenever a source image is larger than 640x480 we should 1) crop it in iPhoto — cropping is optional — then export it from iPhoto to an image that's 640x480; or 2) crop the image with the iMovie zoom slider set to avoid expanding or shrinking the cropped portion of the image. The ideal zoom is (the width of the image) divided by 640. iMovie lets us use a different zoom, of course, but it sacrifices quality.

  • Any Suggestions for CGI Script for Web Slide Slow?

Do you have any suggestions for creating a slideshow for my web site, 6 same-size jpgs that rotate automatically?
I think I prefer a cgi script. However, I've tried two that don't work on Firefox or Safari. One developer tells me that he can see the rotating photos.
I'm also open to software to create this. However, I'd prefer to use html code.
Of course, it must work cross platform.
    Any suggestions?

Oh, what a beautiful baby! Is he/she yours?
She is mine. At least that's what the Mrs. tells me!
When you say gif, I am assuming that you mean the
format really must be gif and not jpg. Is that
    correct?
Yes, the file is a GIF file. It's actually an animated GIF file, meaning that the images that you see are all frames of animation in a single GIF file. There are a lot of apps out there that can create animated GIFs. I happen to use Adobe ImageReady because that is what is on the hard drive.
Can you give me a hint about the dithering issue? Do
I dither or not dither, that is the question.
This is the major downside of the GIF format. It is a really old format...from back in the CompuServe bulletin board days...maybe older. Anyways, it is my understanding that GIFs can only hold information for 256 colors....any 256 colors, but no more and no less. So now in the days of "millions of colors" jpegs, you can imagine that a 256 color palette is limiting. But if the colors of your images are sufficiently close, its possible that 256 colors makes for perfectly acceptable images across all images. This is the one variable of converting images to GIF that can make it or break it for you. If your image has a pretty broad tonal range...like fleshtones or any other gradient...then 256 colors is going to represent things poorly. Then you will get dithering artifacts which is like averaging errors...colors are close...as close as possible...but not close enough to make a smooth gradation. Anyways, that's my layperson's understanding.
But for some images, it looks just fine.
