A suggestion to make the Yoga a complete Surface Pro killer

Hey all,
So I got some face time with the Yoga and the Surface Pro at a local computer shop and I must say, I was quite impressed by both. The only reason I like the Surface Pro more than the Yoga is that it has an active Wacom digitizer in it with 1024 levels of pressure sensitivity... this is really great for note taking and doing digital art.
So my suggestion, which I'm sure has been suggested before, is to add some sort of real pen input support to the Yoga's screen (and no, a capacitive decapated thumb for a pen is not a viable option). I think with Haswell on the horizon and a Yoga with the option for true pen input, this thing could be a content creator's dream. I know I'd gladly pay up to $200 more than the Yoga's price just to get this.

Agreed. Haven't heard any news to either the use of Haswell or pen input on the Yoga's - have you?

  • Suggestion: Please make the Combine Files dialog modal to the Acrobat application instance.

I often combine files into a PDF with Acrobat (XI). It is annoying that the main Acrobat window is shown while the Combine Files dialog window is open. I often review other PDF files during the process of selection for later combination. It happens far too often, that I accidentally close the Combine Files instance main Acrobat window during the process and subsequently lose the already specified file selection. I would suggest to make the Combine Files dialog modal for the Acrobat instance so that users would have to close the Combine Files dialog first, before closing the instance. I would appreciate this in a future update. Thanks a lot.

  • How do we make the apple icon on Macbook pro?

Hi, I wonder how I can make the apple icon on Macbook pro and how i make a heart ( not like this - <3) Someone knos what I have to do?

Option-shft-K will get you the Apple logo in many, but not all, fonts.
To find a font with a heart glyph use Character Viewer.
Topher Kessler provides a how-to in this CNET article. He even uses "heart" in his search example.

  • 10.7 Lion makes the fan in my MacBook Pro roar!

The fan in my MacBook Pro 13" Thunderbolt (2,3 GHz i5, 8 GB RAM) is driving me wild! As wild as a Lion! I was used to it howling like a starting spaceship whenever I was watching crappy Flash Video, but now with 10.7 Lion, the fan even blows like crazy in Mail.app.
What’s most annoying is that it doesn't spin at a constant speed but that it's speed, and thus volume goes up and down all the time. The guys at Apple can't be serious about this... The fan action in my previous MacBook Pro 13" (2.26 GHz C2D, 8 GB) was really moderate, but the SandyBridge-based machines seem to be a nightmare.
I rather accept a slower CPU, than the penetrating and annoying howling. Come on Apple give us some Firmware update! Where is the 'eye of Steve' when you need it?
    P.S.: Please second this!
P.P.S.: I'm familiar with the Activity Monitor, and closely watch the processes, so it is not that I don't understand what is going on. Yet, still: My last C2D MBP was a zillion times quiter...

Mine is roaring too - like a computer readying for lift-off. I think it wants to be the next space shuttle.
In my case, it's definitely (at least in part) because clamshell mode currently has a major bug under Lion. You should be able to run an external monitor with the MBP lid open and internal screen off. After upgrading to Lion, the MBP screen comes back on as soon as you re-open the lid. So the only way to use only the external display is to keep the lid closed. Lid closed = poorer air circulation = hotter running = mad, mad fan noise plus a much unhappier and unhealthy living environment for the battery and other components.
One step forward, three steps back... Please fix, Apple.

  • I'm wondering if there is a way to make the Reminders Notification "Complete" the task.

As it is, I can snooze the task or I can close the task, but I cannot complete the task.  Is there an option to have this popup on my screen? Or am I stuck with the two default answers?

I think all you can do is to click on the notification so that the reminder gets displayed and then you can complete it from there.

  • How can I make the Finder on my MacBook Pro recognize my iPad as a device?

I need to transfer images from my iPad to my MacBook Pro while preserving "file created" date and time information.  Trying to do this using iPhoto has not been working for Vertical *****, since the program auto-rotates the images and marks them as created at the time they are imported.  I would prefer to copy the images directly from the iPad to the MacBook Pro, but the iPad is not recognized as a device by the laptop's Finder, even though iTunes and iPhoto detect it.  Any advice?

This is very frustrating...  I did not capitalize the first letter of "vertical" and did not use any inappropriate words.  This forum should provide a way to preview and edit posts.  I believe I conveyed my question adequately and appreciate any feedback despite any possible distractions...

  • Is it possible to turn off the Apple dock completely?

I was wondering if it was possible to turn off the Apple dock completely without causing irreparable damage to my system. I am considering using Drag Thing, but when I am using it the functionality seems redundant with the Apple dock, also using both programs in tandem uses up more precious memory. The Drag Thing website links to the following tutorial as a solution:
    http://www.creativemac.com/2003/02_feb/tutorials/dockdead2030225.htm
But it was published a long time ago, and I don't want to do anything rash that would damage my system, I mean I don't dislike the Apple dock enough to do that. Thanks in advance for the consideration and suggestions.

I could only discover an option to hide the dock from within Drag Thing. I am looking to make the dock disappear completely. Drag Thing does not officially support this option, giving this answer in the Q & A section of their website:
"*It is possible, but I wouldn't recommend it. Since people often ask how to do it anyway, here's a good tutorial I found on how to kill the Dock by Kevin Schmitt. This may have unforseen side effects however, which is why I've not documented the procedure myself, or added an option for this in DragThing. I keep the Dock hidden off the bottom of the screen on my own Mac.*"
Is the dock so embedded within the Finder's operations that killing it will affect system performance?

  • I received an I-pad for work but it is linked to my home computer and another i-pad. I want to keep the work unit completely separate from my personal apple products from the work i-pad. How do I go about unlinking this i-pad?

I received an I-pad 4th generation from work and it is linked to my other apple products. I want it to be completely separate from my other apple products. How do I do this?

You could do all the following steps, assuming your work IT folks can set it up as they like it so it communicates properly with your work infrastructure.  These steps I'm suggesting will make the iPad look like a brand new out-of-the-box device:
    1.  Go to Settings > Messges and sign out of your Apple ID.
    2.  Go to Settings > iCloud and sign out of your Apple ID.
    3.  Go to Settings > iTunes & App Stores and sign out of your Apple ID.
    4.  Go to Settings > General > Reset > Erase all content and settings and execute that.
Next, let your IT department set up your iPad.  It will look like a new device to them.  Make sure they do not inlcude any linkages to your stuff when they set it up.

A lot of updating is going on some columns of this table.all columns are not in the select list, Insertion is happend in batch process by back-end trigger of another table.
    Primary key based one column,
    OP_REGISTRATION 500,000
Daily insertion on this table around 500 records, updation is not much.
Primary key based one column 'reg_no'
    DC_TESTMST
Total records of this table not more than 1500.This is setup table. Insertion and updation is not much on this table also
I have to create a view based on this query .
and I have to create another view to serve another purpose.
In the 2nd view I need this query as well as I need another query by using union all operator based on a table(dc_oldresult)
which have 1,600,000 records. There is no DML on this table
    SELECT      NVL((SELECT USER_DEFINE_TEST_NO FROM DC_TESTMST WHERE TEST_NO = SV_ID AND ROWNUM = 1 ),SV_ID) USER_D_EXAM_NO,
    (SELECT TEST_TYPE FROM DC_TESTMST WHERE TEST_NO = SV_ID AND ROWNUM = 1 ) EXAM_TYPE,
         NVL((SELECT TEST_NAME FROM DC_TESTMST WHERE TEST_NO = SV_ID AND ROWNUM = 1),'Exam Code: '||sv_id) EXAM_NAME,
         (SELECT PAT_NAME FROM OP_REGISTRATION WHERE REG_NO = HN) PATIENT_NAME,

         (SELECT PAT_SEX FROM OP_REGISTRATION WHERE REG_NO = HN) PATIENT_GENDER
    FROM DC_OLDRESULT
WHERE HN IS NOT NULL AND SV_ID IS NOT NULL AND UPPER(ACTIVE) = 'TRUE'
Should I make join DC_OLDRESULT, OP_REGISTRATION and DC_TESTMST? or The eixisting subquery is better?
I use OP_REGISTRATION and DC_TESTMST in both query
    Thanks in advance

  • Day 3 - A Suggestion for Improving the Ease of Use...

OK, It's day 3 and I'm beginning to appreciate the advantages of the new forum.  Overall, I have to sa that I like it a lot.
However (there's often a 'however') the information columns to the right of the 'Subject' are counterintuitive and confusing.  I'd like to suggest reorganising them.
They would be much more useful and informative (as well as being easier and more logical to read and interpret) if the columns were laid out in the following order:
Subject                     Latest Post               New (Replies)           Replies            Author Ratings
The reasoning behind this is as follows.  After knowing what the subject is (and thus whether you are interested or could help) and whether the question is answered or not, its then useful to know who last contributed and when, then whether there have been any new replies since you last looked at the thread.  The total number of replies and ratings are very much secondary issues.  To that end, the layout of the old forum threads were much, much better.
    What do others think?

Could I offer a quick suggestion.
Make the 'solved' button clearly visible rather than in the options menu.
Maybe create a little icon asking if your question has been answered.
Some threads are answered but appear not to be. (Thread creator has replied but may not know where it is).

  • Can't Make a Decision on the Yoga 2 Pro

Am in the market for a new laptop and love the look of the Yoga 2 Pro.  It has the specs that I'm looking for - i5, 256gb SSD, 8gb RAM - but I keep hesitating over the 3200x1800 resolution.
I am a middle-aged guy (with middle-aged eyes) who will be using the laptop for typical e-mail and internet browsing as well as heavy MS Office, particularly Excel.  I looked at a Y2P in Best Buy today and in Desktop Mode even the basic taskbar icons were tiny.  Resolution was set at the native 3200x1800 and the scaling was set at Largest.
From what I understand, Windows Store Apps appear just fine, but many desktop apps have scaling problems.  Is that a true statement?  What about Excel?  Are the menus and cells the same size as I would be seeing on my older Windows 7 screen?
If I change the resolution to 1080, will everything remain fairly crisp or will it blur?
The Yellow and Wifi issues are fixable, but I can't get a handle on this high res thing.  I'd hate to pay $1k for machine and have to hobble it to make it usable until the software catches up.  If you use your Y2P like I would (i.e. MS Office, etc.), do you find yourself cursing at small menus and icons, or are you working away in complete bliss?
    Thanks.

I don't own a Yoga 2 Pro, but about resolutions:
TL;DR: If 1600x900 is an option, you shouldn't get any of the traditional blurring caused by changing resolutions.
The long version with math and some history about Apple and Lenovo:
Yes, changing a 3200x1800 native screen to 1920x1080 will make it blurry. Why? Because 3200 cannot neatly divided into 1920 and 1800 cannot neatly divided into 1080. You can't split pixels, so you get some blur as the monitor tries to round-off some things.
Buuuut, if you can set it to 1600x900 (the original Yoga's resolution, incidentally), then you might be OK. It's exactly half the native and shouldn't cause any blurring.
But, I don't own a Yoga 2 Pro, so I don't know if 1) 1600x900 is an option and 2) if there are any other weird things that happen.
But, the normal blurring that happens because you change from native resolution on an LCD is because...in the end...we can't make half-pixels. You have to use integers.
Apple was smart about this, actually:
    iPhone 3GS: 480x320
    iPhone 4 (first w/ Retina-branding): 960x640
Perfectly double -> no blurring. Made the whole transition a lot smoother.
