A switcher lost!!! HELP!!!
Hello guys!
Well, As i said in the title I'm a switcher so I'm a bit lost. I'm used to organise my files in a particular way so is easy for me to back up (which i do every other day). In my own way to organise things I have one main folder into HD which i divided into different folders with different purposes. Two of this folders is a work photos and anoter is home photos. I want keep it that way, and when using iPhotos i want to open the particular library i want work with and when importing picture it will automatically to that folder idesigneted earlier without making any copy anywhere else. Is it possible?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. What you may want to do is to create two libraries, one for your home photos and one for your work photos. Then use either iPhoto Buddy or
iPhoto Library Manager to quickly and easily move between libraries. You'll still have only one copy of each original photo but will have them separated. When you import new photos they will be assigned a new roll and folder in the Originals folder in the iPhoto Library folder.

Help - country switching, lost apps from 'old' country
I spend a fair bit of time split between US and UK. I only ever used UK store and UK apps for quite a while, even if I bought an iPad in the US.
I then switched my id to a US store entering my US address and credit card as I wanted to buy some apps which you only get in the US and those that I need in the US. I used the same UK email/itunes/apple ID and just changed address and credit card. This is where my troubles started.
I did get US apps, but.... As a result, now I do not have any of the apps I bought in the UK or access to them! I have all the emails that Apple sends when you buy/download apps as proof of purchase if needed.
I then had to create another id, just for UK as I did. But I don't want to pay again for apps I have already bought!
Hope this makes sense, I have spent a fair amount on both sides of the pond on apps and would like to see them both. I don't mind an intermediate solution where I can split this across two devices (I have an iPad and an iPhone) if need be.

It sounds like you have changed the country of your iTunes Store account but now have lost access to the apps purchased in the previous country. This is expected, as apps are country specific, so when you change the country back to the UK from the US you will regain access to those apps.

I've lost OpenGL support with KVM switch. Help!
I have a Win7 64 machine and an XP machine at work. I installed an Iomega KVM switch to use the same monitor/keyboard/mouse with both computers. Problem is, once I installed the KVM, Photoshop can't detect my video card, so I lose OpenGL support. Very irritating. Anyone had this problem and/or know of a solution? Thanks!
Did you reboot Windows after plugging the monitor into the computer?
On another note, it's possible a recent video driver update changed the behavior. Photoshop queries the OpenGL system for its capabilities, and if something's gotten broken Photoshop might not allow the OpenGL operations. What video card do you have?
There is a workaround you can try - a registry tweak - that will instruct Photoshop to use OpenGL calls anyway:

Download the file and extract AllowOldGPUS_ON.reg. You don't say which version of Photoshop you're using, but if it's CS4 the file is good to use as is. If CS5 then you'll need to edit the file with a text editor to change 11.0 to 12.0. Make sure you're an Administrator and double click the file to enter it into your registry.

Macbook battery not working - computer switching off - help!
My Macbook has suddenly started switching off when the power supply is disconnected, even though the battery should be charged.
This happened after buying a new macbook AC adaptor. My old 60watt adaptor has been getting quite hot, so I did a bit of reading on the web and bought a new 85watt adaptor, which is supposed to resolve the problem. I bought one off ebay - had no idea what I doing really so may have bought a dodgy one? It was £30 which I've been told (now!) is suspiciously cheap! I plugged it in once and all seemed fine then when I removed the magsafe adaptor for a moment my computer just sort of died, well, switched off. I now can't restart it from the battery at all. It works fine with the adaptor (I'm using my old 60watt one again now.) In the moment before I remove my adaptor, the battery looks 'fully charged' then just switches off.
I tried downloading BatteryUpdate 1.2 but it has made no difference.
What have I done?? Can it be fixed? Please help!

I am planning to switch to a Mac this year for many common Windows reasons. I like the new intel iMac, but I have the following questions though:
1. Since this is going to be my first Mac, is it worth buying the iMac now or wait for few more models - iBook , Mac Mini or any other "Magic" Mac that Steve might pull out? I like the iMac for the power that it has on a consumer desktop, So I feel even if there are other Mac models that might come out for consumers, iMac will probably the best in terms of speed. What do you all say?
2. I've clearly read all the specs of the iMac and the one thing that i really liked is the extended desktop. I have a question though - Does this mean, I can connect my iMac to my TV and watch a DVD while I still rest my iMac on the coffee table and work on other apps ?
3. The DVD camcorders record video in MPEG2, will the iMovie be able to recognize it and edit the content ? or should I use only miniDV camcorders. This will help me decide which camcorder I can buy.I like the Panasonic 3CCD model, but Sony's DVD camcorder with Dolby digital audio recording is tempting.
Any other ideas, suggestions and comments will really help me in buying my new Mac. Thank you all!

It's always going to get better, faster cheaper no matter when you buy
Rev B will be better than Rev A.
Buy when you want one... they're all gonna depreciate like crazy anyway - but you'll still have the same great machine you always had, won't you ?

That's not really what it's for. The second monitor is a 'normal computer-type' monitor (although there are bits and pieces that'll get you there if you really want to).

3CCD DV is a vastly superior choice to anything that stores its Vid in MPEG2 or similar.
You can shoot and edit/build Broadcast-quality material from properly-shot DV.
MPEG2 is very much a delivery format only - i.e. it's what you convert footage too when you've finished the editing & production stages - not for the start. [They might look the same to you - the MPEG2 may even look Great to you -it's supposed to - but the differences are huge. Trust me™ ]

IPhoto's Pictures Forever Lost – Help!
Hello to all,
I am afraid that I have quite a sad and seemingly hopeless story to share with you, upon this cold and dreary Winter's day. My story begins some time ago, when I sold my 20" iMac and upgraded to a brand new 21". You might ask what sadness could be associated with such a splendid upgrade? I will share this and more with you, dear reader, but you must be patient. Well, before I sold my 20" I backed up my entire computer using none other than Apple's very own Time Machine. However, this is where I failed, and this is where my story takes a sad and bitter turn. With my 20" sold and gone, I purchased a 21" from the local classifieds. Oh what a beautiful machine! I eagerly migrated everything over from my backup, and for awhile it seemed I was in technological bliss. Everything was there, my music, my movies, my applications, my photos...huh?...what's this??? One day my wife was looking through some photos in iPhoto and she met the infamous exclamation point. For those who have never encountered this villain, it shows up when your cached thumbnails fail to link back to the actual pictures. I had met this adversary before, and had defeated him. This time however, his villainous plot was far darker than I could have imagined. When my wife showed me, I thought I would be her knight and shining armor and banish the dark exclamation point forever. I opened up the contents of the iPhoto library, and to my shock and dismay, many (actually most) of the originals were gone. I searched for invisible (hidden) files, but still they were missing. How could this be? It seems that Time Machine is the true villain and the exclamation point is only one of its henchmen. I have searched the web for hours, nay even days for help. I have searched my computer to its very frameworks, all to no avail. They are gone...forever. In desperation I called the technical support of my favorite company. Yes, I called Apple. Off the record I was told that Time Machine cannot be trusted for such important things. I was further advised that in the future I actually need to manually copy over my important files such as movies, music, documents, and yes, photos. It seems shameful that a program who's entire purpose is to safeguard your precious data, cannot successfully complete its reason for being. I have long abandoned this failure of a program, and I am now quite happy with Carbon Copy Cloner. But this does not bring back my precious photos. These are irreplaceable. They are those precious times with my wife, my two precious children, and my relatives. I have been told that this is hopeless, that all is lost. Yet, I will not give up. I have come to terms with the fact that the full quality pictures are lost. But I hold out hope that I would be able to somehow get the pictures back (even if they be lower quality) through the cached thumbnails. I have tried taking screenshots, but they are so low quality (only 72dpi). I had seen people use a very high resolution digital camera and take photos of printed pictures, instead of scanning them in, so I thought this might work. The pictures are just too blurry when I take them of the screen, using a 8MegaPixel Sony camera. I have truly reached the end of my capabilities.
I send this plea out to all who have a heart, that they will try to help me come up with a viable solution. My wife gets tears in her eyes every time we talk of them possibly never coming back. You will be my hero, and hers if you can come up with some way of using those cached files. I am very willing to listen to suggestions. PLEASE HELP ME.Open your iPhoto library with the Finder like this:

Next open the folder named "Masters" and see if the subfolder there contain your image file. If they do, close the library package, make a copy and try the three fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache files that are located in the User/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding the the Option key. You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
Fix #2
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select options #1, #2 and #6.

Rebuild the library using iPhoto Library Manager as follows:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 -Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 -Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your User/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File->Rebuild Library menu option
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.
If the subfolders in the Masters folder do not contain your photos you'll either need to have a backup copy of the library that contains the files or use a file recovery application like SubrosaSoft FileSalvage to try to recover them.
In the future it's best to use paragraphs in your post to separate information and make it easier to read. Like Terence I gave up on line 3 and this response is based on what I think happened. -
Like most users, I couldn't upload pictures from iPhoto to the internet because the iPhoto Library folder is grayed out. I searched the forums and someone advised to copy the iPhoto Library folder to my desktop. I did that and now I can't see any of my photos in iPhoto -- they've all been replaced with question marks -- and double clicking on the iPhoto Library folder produces no effect other than to open iPhoto. There are no files in it. Where are my photos? I just lost ten years of my life and I'm pretty hysterical about it. Hoping someone can help. Thanks.
Update on the above. As I said, when I click on the desktop copy of iPhoto Library it opens iPhoto and there are only question marks. When I search my entire MAC for jpgs, it shows me all of the images and identifies that they are indeed on my desktop in the iPhoto Library and gives me preview thumbnails. However, when I try to open any of them, they open iPhoto and give me the question mark. How is this possible?

I helped someone switch this weekend (she bought a new intel imac, nice), who was previously a windows user.
I transferred her songs over to the new mac, and also made a copy of the itunes library file, and the xml file and brought them over, in addition to 'previous itunes libraries' folder.
Now itunes sometimes will not launch properly for her. It shows as active in the dock, but won't bring up the itunes window, and you can't force quit it.
Here's my theory - that on the way through, I think bringing over her windows xml file and library file has caused issue with the imac. It can't be much else as she really has nothing else on the machine yet other than itunes and office.
Is there a way I can just trash these data files and have the imac 'rebuild' them in clean native mac format?This may possibly fix it:

Or you could try going to home > library > preferences, trashing the com.apple.itunes plist file, logging out/in, and launching iTunes.

Please ask the question in LAN SWITCHING community for speedy response but it looks like a message indicating that Switch is seeing a packet with src mac 00.00.00.00.00.00 which obviously is Invalid. Switch learns the mac from src in the frame and it is wrong. Looks like Mac-spoofing.

Albums missing from ITunes after laptop switch. Help?
I recently switched laptops and at first, when I logged into ITunes, all my albums were there. But, suddenly, they're gone. Help?
I have almost the same problem. As a workaround, I can check "sync all music" rather than "sync checked music" in iTunes. (By the way, it worked for a couple weeks and now it doesn't). I'm fortunate that all my music fits on my touch (though just barely). The only album that still exists on my ipod (officially anyways) is one that I bought from iTunes after upgrading.
Also, I listen to a lot of podcasts, and I haven't figured out how to make that work (they disappeared too).
Anybody know how to get back to a position where I can decide what I want for music and don't have to put everything on my touch? -
Firefox won't update on my system, even with firewall & antivirus switched off - help ?
OS : Windows 7 - 64bit, with antivirus (Bitdefender).
Downloaded update from you website (version 25.01), switched off Windows firewall, bitdefender firewall & antivirus. Run 25.01.exe - it partly updates (3/4 green bar), then bombs out.
Firefox version currently running on my system is 22.
If I try to update from your pull-down meny "Help" then "about Firefox", after downloading the update, get message that I need to restart Firefox to finalise update, but the process also gets blocked.
Opening Firefox, I'm still on version 22

Sometime overnight my TX "lost" my e-mail. Everything else is fine and complete. When I went to my mail, Versamail wanted to run initial setup.
I then did a selective restore of my mail files from NVBkup. This restored the default welcoming Versamail files and folders. However, I normally run 3 accounts from my palm and they did not restore.
So I tried a selective restore from a previous bkup date and had the same results.
Unfortunately this has overlapped with me recovering from my computer crashing. My computer is running again but I don't think that I can access any of my old sync/bkups from before the crash.
While I continue digging through the remains of my old file system I was hoping that someone could tell me what I might be missing.
It seems like I am missing files when I restore. I haven't been able to find a complete file list for Versamail. NVbackup files do not show creator data so I can't pull them that way.

Since this issue is happening from specifc sources, safe to say its content in the e-mail the PDA cannot read. Couple basic things to cover:
1. Make sure to have at least 4mb free space on PDA.
2. Try another mail provider like gmail to fwd these e-mails there and have the PDA retrieve them via that acct to see how that fairs.
Afterwards Id like to know:
1. How big are these e-mails?
2. Do they have attachments? If so what are they and how big are they?
3. In the Versamail preferences under Delivery Options, are you:
a. Getting the entire message?
b. Auto downloading attachments checked?
c. Maximun message size still at 5kb or has that been increased?
d. Message format in HTML or Text?
4. These e-mails adds?
5. These e-mails loaded with alot of pictures and/or other flashy content?
For troubleshooting, Id like to have the Message format changed from HTML to Text to make those e-mail less complex to see how that fairs. Next thing is make sure your only getting the e-mail header first rather the whole e-mail in preferences. This could save you from replication and sudden loss of memory on PDA. Keep me posted.
