A thank-you to the Arch developers and contributors
I have been using some form of Linux for the past 13 years, starting with Slackware on floppies, and ending with Arch. Before Arch, I used Gentoo for almost two years.
Now that I have been using Arch for around six months, all I can say is thank you. Packages are kept up to date, configuration files are well documented and simple to edit, and pacman has not once hosed anything on my system ('emerge --update world' on Gentoo was occasionally a painful experience).
Arch is fast, lightweight, and always up to date. I love it!
Thank you again to everyone contributing to the project. You're doing a wonderful job.
Oh, and I would also like to thank everyone here in the Arch community. These forums are friendly and helpful, which really does draw people to the distribution!
Shopko wrote:It is amazing how painful it was to download and write 28 floppy images of Slackware, just to get home and find that one of the floppies had bad sectors.
lmbo. You think that's painful? Surely someone around here in Arch remembers listening to the old screeching noises coming from the analog modem "handset", running at 300 baud. I remember jingling the modem handset on the 2 styrofoam receivers to get a "good" connection. What the hell were those old protocols called? I remember "Kermit", but not the others...
Oh yeah, and magnetic tape drives. I accidentally threw in an unmarked computer tape into my car stereo system deck once, thinking it was from "Judas Priest". For a second there, I thought JP came out with a new song...

A thank you to all Archlinux maintainers and contributors
Hi people,
I received a newer model laptop at work and decided to install Linux on it, since it came preinstalled with some newb OS (win something or other). I'm already a bit of a veteran with linux, and my favorite distribution has always been slackware. I have been following other distros though (like Ubuntu) but found them relatively untweakable. A while back (while still in release 0.5 or so) I read about Archlinux, and since it was a relatively slow day at work, I decided to try something completely new and decided upon Archlinux.
So far, I'm extremely happy with this choice. Some unexpected things happened (which is to be expected of course), like having to manually install openssh which was a bit of a surprise, but so far I've been able to get almost everything working with the help of the Wiki: X, KDE, touchpad, wifi with several network profiles (+ killswitch), vmware player, firefox + all the usual plugins, PPtP connection to work etc etc. and now everything 'just works'.
So here's a thank you to all the people involved in creating and contributing to the distro and it's knowledge base!
Kind regards,
Arnoud.I'm not smart enough to program, or to be a developer, but I have contributed monetarily to Arch, and have put a lot of work into the Beginner's Guide and wiki.
I too am very thankful to the devs and community, and to be part of this excellent distro, by participating as much as I can. -
Thank you to the WPF Bing Maps Control developers and Ricky
I just want to say thank you for the effort that the Bing Maps Team has put into updating the WPF Control. It is greatly appreciated. Those of us doing desktop development sometimes feel left out, and the recent updates go a long ways
to helping us do our jobs.
I look forward to bigger and better things in the future once the Microsoft direction for the desktop is made clear.
pmontGlad to hear your happy with the updated control. All the credit goes to the developers. I only posted info on the forums, they did all the work.

hello there, this is really urgent i would like to ask if there is a way to deactivate/lock my Mini Ipad because it was stolen, i hope you can provide me a way to do so, thank you for the support and i really hop you can help me, i bought this mini ipad not too long ago.
Unless you enabled Find My iPad on it before it was stolen then there isn't any way to locate it. If you did enable it then you could try locating and/or remotely wiping it either via http://icloud.com on a computer or Find My iPhone on another device - but that will only work if it's connected to a network and the device hasn't already been wiped and/or Find My iPad disabled on it.
If you haven't already done so then you should report it to the police. You should also change your iTunes account password, your email account passwords, and any passwords that you'd stored on websites/emails/notes etc., and if it was a cellular model you should also contact your carrier. -
Hello, if I uninstall and reinstall Itunes, will I lose all my downloads and apps. Thank you for the answer. F
No, your library will remain - but you should be keeping and maintaining a backup of your downloads/library.

I have an app idea project going on but I have no access to itunes connect so I can send my idea to the app developers and see what their opinion is about it.Do you know any other ways that can help me promote my idea so it can be further developed?
You can not merge accounts.
Apps are tied to the Apple ID used to download them, you can not transfer them. -
Thank you for the instructions of uninstalling and reinstalling itumes update version 11.1.4. Couldn't have done it without the great support of the forum users.

Thank you, to the whole Apple team!
I received my iPad today, as expected from the pre-order.
I could not be happier! Setup was simple and painless. All the included apps work as advertised. All my iPhone apps work. My recently-downloaded iPad-specific apps (Keynote, Numbers, Pages, Sketchbook Pro, etc.) all work as expected, or better. The iPad barely went above room temperature, after using it for periods of 6 hours and more.
I went to a art event planning meeting tonight, with a local clan of multi-disciplinary artists, and simply gave the iPad to them, without any instruction. They all instinctively knew how to use it, and all of them were struck by it's excellent display of images, animation, and text documents. Battery life was better than advertised.
I generally wait until "version 2" of a new product, but took a chance on the iPad, and am simply thrilled with version one of what will surely become the way things are done in the future.
Sincerely.... Thank you to the whole Apple team. Excellent work, and remarkable results!Yes, it reads PDFs. Email one to yourself and doubleclick the attachment or download a more full featured app that lets you grab them from idisk or dropbox.

How do you sync the iPhone, iPad and MacBook calendar in one calendar.
How do you sync the iPhone, iPad and MacBook calendar in one calendar?
Iphone 5 seems unable to sync calendars with ITunes! The genius bar set mine to sync via Icloud, but it only worked once (?).
Finally I fixed it like this.
First, I merged the multiple calendars from ICal thanks to http://www.maclife.com/article/howtos/how_merge_ical_calendars and I called it “only.”
Second, I unchecked the gmail calendar (seems iCloud had a problem with it): On the Iphone, open the calendar, go to the bottom of the page, click on calendars and uncheck the gmail calendar. Click Done.
Third, every time I want to sync, I go to the Iphone Settings, iCloud, and uncheck calendars. I respond “keep on my Iphone”. Then, check calendars on again, click merge, and.… voila! -
I've just installed Firefox on my laptop and keep getting the message, "Windows cannot find 'c:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again." I get this message whenever I either try to open it from the Start menu or from the desktop icon. I've never gotten it to work and even uninstalled it and then redownloaded it and still cannot get it to open. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!
Are you installing from the official site? http://www.mozilla.com/firefox
If you use Windows Explorer (My Computer) to check that path, is the Mozilla Firefox folder there? That is the normal installation location, but I think it's worth checking.
If the folder isn't there or firefox.exe is not in it, I wonder whether some other software might be interfering. You might want to run some supplemental security scans. These two tools are highly regarded:

Since my G5 died I was thinking about getting a Mac Mini, but I have a ViewSonic Monitor (from 2004) and a USB keyboard and mouse - I also have the external drive that I downloaded my files on to. Do you think the monitor, keyboard and mouse will work on it? Would I have to get a hub so I could use the stuff I already have? Is that viewsonic too old to work on it?
What else would I need? Please advise...Yes for keyboard and mouse.
The monitor will work if it has an HDMI, VGA ir DVI input. If it only has a VGA input you will need this adopter
