A thought about keyword organization

I don't know how many others have trouble keeping their keyword lists organized but until the developers make it easier to organize existing words into a hierarchy besides drag & drop I came up with a way to deal with new keywords being added, especially during the importing of new images. I created a new keyword named "*unclassified" the leading asterisk keeps this word at the top of my keyword list. By right clicking or (control+click) *unclassified and selecting "Put new keywords inside this keyword" all new keywords added, especially during import, will be contained inside *unclassified until I have time to organize them properly. This at least to me is far better than having them scattered thoughout the whole alphabet. So far after importing I have been able to just expand the keyword *unclassified and find all the new keywords in one place and distribute as neccesary.

I've been an exclusive Mac user since 1986. We have an all-mac household with two laptops and an imac. I help run an apple-driven research lab. I've been "approving" of the Mac for more than 20 years, with my ow dollars and my institution's dollars.
One of the main reasons to go with apple has always been ease of use and reliability--as in the "i'm a Mac" ads Apple runs. The message is "buy a mac, and avoid the headaches." Apple notifies you via system update of a new release, and encourages you to download and install it via system update. I've done it dozens of times without incident.
In this case, they released an update which has caused crucial aspects of the Macs funtionality--crucial for my job--to stop working, for me and apparently many other people. Now, what else should I use a support forum for, but to ask about the problem and try to find a solution? Should I post saying instead "I just want users to know that there is something wrong with me or my computer, because the new system update, which must be perfect because it came from apple,is not running perfectly
OF COURSE it's possible that the probe lies with third party vendors--although in my case, the vendor is blaming apple, ad as far as I can tell they are right to. My audio nterface orked fne before the ugrade--if Apple is gng to release a udate tat canges something this dramatically, it should notify the vedors, no?
But in the end it doesn't matter--Apple sells customers on a seamless, painless experience, on ease of use. When it doesn't deliver, no one should be surprised by irritated posts.

Launch the Terminal app in /Utilities/, run these two commands (copy & paste each one separately and hit the return key):
sudo chflags 0 /volumes/*
sudo chmod a+rx /volumes/*
at the Password: prompt, type in your admin password, carefully since nothing displays on the screen, and hit the return key. These should unlock your drives. You might have to restart.

I can't be the first person to have thought about this but...would n't it be nice if instead of having to naviagte with your mouse to go back a page in Safari, wouldn't it make sense to just have a keyboard stroke to do that?

Try the following:
In Finder, select the problematic volume and then press command-I.
Expand the Sharing & permissions section if it's collapsed.
If the section is locked, then unlock it by pressing the padlock button and then authenticating as directed.
Tick/check Ignore ownership on this volume.

The sales organization must be specified in all sales documents. It is therefore available for all basic functions of SD (such as pricing, availability, etc.).
Structure: A sales organization can be subdivided into several distribution chains which determine the responsibility for a distribution channel.
Several divisions can be assigned to a sales organization which is responsible for the materials or services provided.
A sales area determines which distribution channel can be used to sell the products from one division in a sales organization.
Integration: Each sales organization is assigned exactly one company code for which you enter all accounting details of the sales organization.
A distribution chain can be active for several plants and the plants can be assigned to different company codes. If the sales organization and plant are assigned to different company codes, an internal billing document is sent between the company codes before the sales transactions are entered for accounting purposes.

Bapi about plant, bapi about sales organization

Hi friends,
Given a company code, I want to fetch a list of plants assigned to that company. Is there any BAPI or RFC could be used to achieve this? I have to call it outside the sap system, so fm like K_ABC_GET_WERKS_FOR_BUKRS can not help. Also I tend to not to use RFC_READ_TABLE to access the table of sap system directly.
Another questions are about sales organization. I wonder what's the relationship between sales organization and company. If there is some relationship, is there any rfc or bapi can be used to query such relationships, such as get a list of sales organizations against a company code? And when I look into the BAPI BAPI_EMPLOYEE_GETDATA and find some concepts such as Personnel Area, Organizational Unit, Employee Subgroup, etc. Are these concepts have relationship with the concept of sales organization? I want to know which sales organization he/she is responsible for for each given employee (rep). Is it possible? Still, are there any bapi or rfc available?

you can use the FM RFC_READ_TABLE.
Then read from the table T001K..
This will also solve your purpose...

Keyword Organization

Hi I run LR on my desktop and laptop. I have a catalog stored on an external hard drive so I can access it from both machines. I recently organized my keywords (similiar to a directory with tiered entries)on my laptop. When I accessed the catalog from the desktop machine all the keyword organization was gone. I assumed that the keyword data was associated with a catalog and not the program however it doesn't appear that way. If the keyword data does not run with the catalog is there a simple way to sync that data on both machines? I am running 1.3.1

You can export your keyword hierarchy from one machine and import it to the other. RTFM for the settings you may want to use -- i.e. "export as LR hierarchy."

The chemicals or materials from inside the batteries can cause circuit
damage in the mouse, the mouse may need to be replaced. You may
have to check with the battery manufacturers customer relations to see
if they offer guarantees covering products damaged those batteries...
And those chemicals may remain as a health concern since the mouse
cannot be subjected to washing, since there are electrical parts inside.
How old is the mouse, and how old are the batteries?
Some products have a limited warranty or guaranty.
In some locations, that may be longer than in others.
Were the batteries rechargeable or disposable?
I'd consult an Apple Store and genius bar about the mouse and issues
or concerns about the cause (or blame?) of the leaking batteries, or
which way to go in that matter. I cannot suggest what else to do; we're
not Apple representatives, but in a retail Apple Store they have options.

And secondly, you can have variables of type int and variables of type Integer. What is the difference?Integer is a wrapper class for the primitive int type. It allows you to use int-type concepts in places where an Object is required. But don't over-use these as there is a memory and performance overhead that must be taken into consideration.

A question about keyword tags

Is it possible in settings... or somewhere, to set it so that when you open (PrE9's) organizer instead of starting with keyword hierarchy list - it could open on keyword cloud view? I am not so keen on the hierrarchy method...

I did some experimenting in the Elements 9 Organizer.
1-- yes, when you close the Organizer then it does always seem to come up next time with the Thumbnail grid AND the Tags panel on the right is set to Hierarchy view. Then you must click on the icon for Cloud view.
2-- my conclusion is that if I click on the Cloud icon after starting the Organizer, then it was staying as Cloud in the Keyword Tags panel to the right of the Thumbnails for the duration that the Organizer is open.
3-- Note that if you use Full Screen for viewing your photos, then for the "Quick Organize" panel that drags out from the left side of the screen near the bottom, the default for Keyword Tags is Cloud. This is a different method of working which you may or may not like: however since it does set Cloud I decided to mention it.
FYI - to get to Full Screen you can use the pull down menu for the Display icon (that is next to the House icon on the top bar of the main Organizer screen). Choose the option "View, Edit, Organize in Full Screen". FYI - I usually select the thumbnails of the photos which I want to Organize before I go in to Full Screen.

Thoughts about the bin window - bugs or features and workarounds...

I really have big toubles using the bin window. It is even worse in OSX.5 (the only thing I don't like with OSX.5 and Logic8!).
There are some Problems:
1. I can't move any audio-files to wherever I want them to without Logic is copying them back into the audio-folder by saving the song. The problem is that I want Logic to copy imported audio files into the audio-folder but if I change something manually Logic should remember that without working against me. So for example: I am bouncing a lot of audio into the bounce folder. In Logic 7 all the finished bounces were located there on the hard drive. Easy to find and to organize. But in Logic 8 they are moved to the audio-folder and I have to search very carefully which files I want to send to my client. That's the biggest source of trouble for me right now.
2. If I am making groups, Logic is sometimes copying even that audio-files back into the normal audio-folder. The problem here is: sometimes. I really have no idea what the problem is. Sometimes just some audiofiles are staying in the group (on the hd) for a couple of Logic-saves and then are moved back at the 10th save or something.
3. I am not able to organize my groups and audio files very well. So if I have group that always is shown on top of the bin window and I have a audio-bounce called "zoo" it is the last one in the list. Then I have to move it the whole way up to the group. That costs me about a half our per day. Way too much. There should be some kind of easier handling. For example a second window for groups or something. The next one is that I have to call the group something like 001AASFX or ZZZ_SFX so that I am able to find it fast enough in the finder. It was so much easier to go the bounce folder in Logic 7 days.
4. The hide-regions keycommand was unstable with OSX.4.10 but now with OSX.5 it is not working at all. If I choose a audiofile in the bin window and hit the standard keycommand for hiding regions just the region for that audiofile is hiding and instantly shown again. I want to have a shorter way to move my bounced files into the group that is the whole way up to the list's beginning.
So I wonder if that are new features or if it is really buggy. I am not able to work with that structure right now and with that kind of unstable location behavior. Are there any workarounds, tips, tricks? Is there anyone who feels like me? May I hope for a update?

thanks for the support. Seems to be something Apple has to work on. There are some posts and questions about the bin window in every forum I know but there is never a "this is not want we want and there are bugs" - thread. In fact the whole Logic 8 structure with the one-window-gui is great and works much better than I expected. So it is no general "what the **** are they doing"-thing
Nevertheless, is there a way to get this to apple? I don't know if they are aware of these problems and perhaps the testers are making music with one bounce and that's it. Just one file is not that difficult to handle, organize and to find. But there are other users working in different ways (like us I think).
@ David: I am sorry but you are wasting time and thread-space. If you don't say anything if you do not feel comfortable nothing will change. You are not able to let it rain in Austria (yet) but there are real guys working at apple and it's not a kind of wonder that there is logic at all. So am trying to discuss here something and hope for any reaction or attention and don't need any "go deeply into your self and you will find a way"-stuff. Thanks anyway to bring god back to that forum.

I am SAP operation team lead in a company. And I'd like to make ISP (Information Strategy Plan) including ERP.
So could you let me know what is the best IT's organization.
And if it is possible, please consult my company organiztion about ERP.
I would like to explain my company Organization very roughly.
ERP ->
Local : Two factories. - SAP ESS6.0
Vietnam : Two factories. - SAP Business One
China : Three factories. - Chinese local ERP.
IT Organization ->
Local : Factory : 3 peoples, Head Office : 3 people, Legacy programer (Web) : 4 peoples SAP sustaining team : 4 peoples
Vietnam : 2 people.
China : 3 people
I think GSI (Global Single Incident ) is good solution for our company. For it, I should merge IT organization. And I will implemente SAP ESS 6.0 in the other plant.
But I don't know what is benefit or not. I need somebody's help. Please give me some comment for me.

Really? Honestly?
You ask that in a coffee corner?
How can you even think that there is any one that would even attempt to give you a 'best' IT strucutre. There is no such thing. Every organization is different. SAP is just one small part of most IT orgs. What about email? File Servers? Desktop support? Network infrastructure? Database support? Do you have everything in SAP? Mail? HR? Customer service? Qualty control? product specs? Asset tracking? Do you use SAP to actually run the mfg equipment? Who supports those computers?
There are consulting firms that get paid big dollars to do organizational reviews and make recommendations to CIO's on staffing levels. It's no small undertaking. Every org is different due to business needs, industry, (pharma vs. chemical vs. autos), support levels desired (24 hrs? 12 hrs?), customer base (worldwide? Regional? local?), no. of employees, government regulations, etc. etc.. etc..
If you have no ideas of what the benefit would be for you to merge you organizations how the heck would we? I would recommend you talk to some local consulting firms or maybe poll your peers at an industry meeting of some sort. Some universities and colleges often have professors that are willing to provide expertise in this.

Questions about keyword hierarchy

I'm in the process of designing and building a keyword hierarchy for LR3.5, and I'm at a loss to understand a couple of things.
In the process of deciding how to build this, I've looked at a number of hierarchies people have posted to the web. One thing I've noted is that people sometimes have the same word in multiple hierarchies, and sometimes the same word as both a regular entry and as a synonym. For example:
Architecture
      Building
          Church
                  {Cathedral}
          Cathedral
          Skyscraper.....
Cities
      Building
      Cathedral....
So what happens if I use the keyword building?
I *think* what will happen is that LR gives me a choice of selecting Building>Architecture OR Building>Cities. Is that correct?   Is there a way to get Building, Cities AND Architecture? What happens if I select Cities? Do I get ONLY cities, and none of the lower level keywords?
And I'm at a total loss about synonyms. If, while applying keywords to an image, I select the synonym {Cathedral}, under Architecture, what keyword(s) get assigned to the image? What if I select Church? And what if I select Cathedral under Cities?

I posted basically the same question in a couple of other places, and got conflicting answers. And the information I found on web searches tended to explain HOW to set up a hierarchy, but not how it really worked, and information on synonyms is especially limited, and often conflicting. So I did some tests. So as to not use any words that were already in my keyword list, I built a simple hierarchy of words not currently in use:
Colors
    Blue
        {Cyan}
        {Azure}
    Red
        Pink
                        Salmon
        Rose
    Green
        {BRG}
        {Emerald}
    Cyan
    Orange
Fruit
    Orange
    Apple
(I actually had a couple of other trees, but this is enough to demonstrate how they actually work.)
And it turns out synonyms don't work quite like I expected them to, and are, honestly, so limited I question their value.
Test1: Tag a photo with the keyword Cyan. Only Cyan gets applied to the metadata, not any of the words associated with it (Blue, Colors, Azure). Searching, I can find the image by searching on Cyan, or Colors. But NOT by searching on Blue.
Test2: Tag a photo with the keyword Blue. Only Blue gets applied to the metadata, not Cyan, or Azure. When searching, I can find it by searching on Blue, or any of it's synonyms (Cyan, Azure), or Colors.
(I had expected synonyms to work the other way, I think. So that if I searched on Blue I'd get all images tagged with Blue, but also those tagged with Azure and Cyan. )
Test3: Tag one photo with Cyan, and another with Blue. Searching with Cyan gets me both images, as does searching with Colors. Searching on Blue gets me only the image tagged with Blue.
Test 4: Tag a photo with the word Colors (and nothing else). I find it by searching ONLY on colors, not Blue, Cyan, or Azure.
Test 5: Tag a photo with the word Red (and nothing else). I find it by searching on Red, or Colors, but not Pink or Rose.
Test 6: Tag a photo with the word Pink (and nothing else). I find it by searching on Pink, Red or Colors, but not Salmon.
Test 7: Tag one photo with Orange->Color, and a second image with Orange->Fruit (this nomenclature seems backwards to me, btw. It's really Fruit-Orange and Color-Orange, but whatever...) Searching on Orange finds both images. Searching on Color finds only one, searching on Fruit finds only the other.
Synonyms affect only search, and not tagging (assignment). Searching on a term that is a synonym will find images tagged with the main word. (e.g., search on Azure and you'll find Blue, but not Colors).
On another site someone replied that when you search you'll find "any image which bears that keyword or any keyword BELOW it in the hierarchy." That's backwards, at least as I understand the word "above.". You'll actually find images using the keyword, it's alias, or any word ABOVE it in the hierarchy. So if an image is tagged with Red, you can find it by searching on Red or Colors, but not Pink. If the image is tagged with pink, you can find it with Colors, Red or Pink, but not Salmon.
The worst limitation of using synonyms is that when you're tagging an image, LR3 isn't smart enough to know the synonyms exist. So if I tag an image with the word Azure, LR3 doesn't substitute Blue, or use the synonym where it already exists in the hierarchy. Instead, creates a new, top level entry named Azure, not tied in any way to the alias or the "Colors" tree.
It seems like it would be useful to be able to enter Blue as a search term and find any images tagged with Azure and Cyan. Or enter Red as a search term and find Pink and Rose, too. The way it's implemented now forces you to enter the term you're most likely to use (Blue, for example) at the bottom of the hierarchy, and the least used words above. Or to use synonyms, and hope you never get confused an enter a synonym as a keyword instead of the word it refers to.
It seems to me it's more useful to just use Azure as another keyword beneath (or maybe above) Blue in the hierarchy. At least that way if I tag an image with Azure, I'm not creating a new entry in the Keyword list. I'm not sure I see much value in synonyms as they're currently implemented, but if someone has some examples of how synonyms benefit them I'd be delighted to see them.
Hopefully this information will be of use to someone.
