A TLC look with a FCP plug in
I'm trying to achieve a blowout highlight look that is used on TLC shows like Miami ink and L.A.INK. With which plug in and how can I achieve this?
I'd try one of the many available Chroma Glow filters and set white to be the glow color. Also see Patrick Sheffield's "Electronic Makeup Artist" plugin found here: http://straylight.tv/pluginz/index.html

Can't log in with ethernet cable plugged in
I have a whole department that has the same basic image and exact same workstations as other departments but solely has issues logging into their computers after a restart or shutdown. To log back in, they need to unplug their ethernet cables. Otherwise,
it never gets passed the welcome screen. After looking through the event logs, I see that when they are trying to log in with the cable plugged in they get an error stating:
Error 4/23/2014 10:31:52 AM Microsoft-Windows-GroupPolicy 1055 None "The processing
of Group Policy failed. Windows could not resolve the computer name. This could be caused by one of more of the following:
a) Name Resolution failure on the current domain controller.
b) Active Directory Replication Latency (an account created on another domain controller has not replicated to the current domain controller)."
It seems that they are getting in with cached credentials and I've looked up the error and tried to see if there are DNS issues with the workstations being able to contact the DC and I can't quite figure out why this is happening. Does anyone have any suggestions
as to why this is happening? Any help would be appreciated. Thank youI have been thinking about rejoining the machine to the domain but it is difficult to log in to the machine as an admin or any other acct that isn't the common user of the machine so I haven't tried it. All of the machines in that department aren't connected
on the same switch. The dept does not have a separate DC and it is not an RODC, it's a global catalog DC. I haven't run rsop.msc but have run a GPresult and I don't see any errors.

Dante font used in manuscript … when I try to save as a pdf document in Microsoft Word whole pages change their look, with wide gaps forming between certain paragraphs or sections. This does not happen with other fonts.
OK, we've got it!
What is happening is that when you use Microsoft's save as PDF in Word, the font isn't embedded even though the font is tagged to allow embedding. Furthermore, Microsoft doesn't properly put the font name into the PDF file such that Acrobat or Reader can readily find the font installed on your system such that the text can be properly displayed and/or printed. Acrobat and Reader attempt to display and/or print the text using a “substitution font” and of course, as they say, YMMV (“your mileage may vary”)!
I personally submitted the report of this problem (both the embedding and the font name problem) to Microsoft. They acknowledge the bug, tried a fix and provided me a build with it, but it wasn't right. Maybe they will ultimately fix it, maybe they won't. We don't know yet. We do know that if it is fixed, it will be fixed only for Office 2013 (problem occurs with all Office applications since they use the same PDF generation code) and thus such a fix won't help you.
Adobe Acrobat Standard and Acrobat Pro both provide an Adobe PDFMaker plug-in to Office applications (including full support for Office 2010) that adds an Acrobat Toolbar as well as a Save as Adobe PDF menu item. The resultant PDF file fully supports embedding of OpenType CFF, TrueType, and Type 1 fonts and in many other ways produces much superior PDF with a full range of PDF generation options not available with the Microsoft PDF. (Note that beginning with Office 2013, Microsoft does not support Type 1 fonts in Office documents at all, even for existing documents!) The Acrobat Office functions are widely used and respected in the end user community and whatever “issues” there are (all software has “issues” of some type - it is a matter of how many and how severe), you should be in much better shape for PDF production that with what you currently are using.
Good luck and let us know if this resolves your problems. (Note that you can download and install a free fully-functional 30 trial of Acrobat Pro to assure that it meets your needs! You can then buy a license and activate what you already have installed.)

I am using combobox with custom display(Plug in) in my application.
i want to display value in combobox on selection of values in radio item
sample query used in combobox like

return 'SELECT NAME dropdown_display
,NAME search_string
,NAME input_display
,id return_value
FROM Table_A';
else
return 'SELECT NAME dropdown_display

My footage looks posterized in FCP playback
im using FCP 7 and have downloaded all the latest software updates.
my footage looks normal when i play it back on my video camera, it's normal when i watch it on quicktime, and even when i export it as a quicktime from FCP. it's also normal when capturing to my computer using the 'log and transfer' window. but when i play/preview the clips from the timeline or directly from the browser window, the footage looks distorted and posterized.
ive tried talking to apple support, ive re-loaded the program, ive tried the program with a different user account, ive trashed preferences and reloaded again... but the footage still looks posterized on FCP.
when i change the view settings, the footage looks normal on the R channel, the G channel and B channel, and even on the RGB + alpha channel, but when i view it using the RGB channel, it looks posterized, making it quite difficult to edit and colour-grade.
any suggestions on how i can fix this problem?ok, so i dont know what i did. but after checking my colour settings in my system preferences (which i didnt change), FCP has decided to magically work! the footage is playing back normally now. yay!
i really dont know what i did to fix this problem, but it all appears to be fine now. thanks for your help! -
My IPad keeps saying "Not Charging" and it is plugged to the wall on a good outlet that just charged my IPhone with the same plug! What is wrong with the IPad?
The iPhone charger doesn't put out enough power to charge the iPad. Use the iPad charger. You can use the iPad charger on the iPhone & it will charger the iPhone faster.
The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W or 12W (5W on Mini) USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (2.5W, most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. I would like to purchase the packs of FCP Plug-ins for personal use. Notice I said "personal". I don't want to spend a lot, since these are basically just for videos I create for family and friends. Under a $100 is good, but I do realize some Plug-in bundles have greater value than others.
Please post what you have.Ian R. Brown wrote:

Trust me, I know. I'm currently working at an elementary school and the students love the cheesy cuts, transitions, etc. They go crazy when they see things like "ripple". -
IMovie look better than FCP HD
I am doing some experiments to find the best way to edit a project for an ad for the web. Something is not adding up on FCP 5.0.4. The project requires a lot of screen grabs from a software that I am developing, the screen grabs look great in FCP until you hit play, then all the text becomes completely unreadable, smudged out, really bad. In iMovie HD the images stay the same quality whether stopped or playing.
Likewise, I had to shoot the screen with a video camera in HDV 1080i60, due to the screen record software being too slow to do what I need it do do, even the text from HD video in FCP looks fine when stopped, but smudged out when playing and not readable.
There must be some missing link here that I don't get, surely FCP can't be producing lesser quality output than iMovie, right?hey there Tom,
the choice will most likely rest upon which version of OSX(probably OS 10.2 or 10.3) & which QT version (probably 5.x or 6.x) will work best w/ FCP 3 & if you have those to install, especially the OS. but you maybe right about using FCP 3 on an older DP G4 as opposed to using the newer FCE 3.5. sort of a tough call.
good luck. -
Titles from motion look lousy in FCP
When I import some relatively simple not embedded titles made in motion 4, where they looked great, into FCP they look ragged and totally unacceptable. Figure I am doing something wrong since I am not very familiar with motion.

What am I doing wrong here? Vids look correct in FCP but not in Quicktime..
Hi,
I have a few quicktime movies that I made a long time ago. I have dragged them to my hard drive and they look great and play exactly how I edited them in Final Cut Pro. However, when I open them in Quicktime or try to play them into any other format (Flash) they appear wider.
Now I am confused as it appears every movie I have ever saved seems to be distorted when I play it in Quicktime.
Are there some settings within FCP or Quicktime that I am not aware of?
Are both programs accurately playing what is recorded?I am having this exact same issue. My sequence is 352x288 the video looks great in FCP but every time I Export this sequence straight out through QuickTime (not QT Conversion or Compressor) self-contained and using the current settings it plays back in QuickTime as 720x480 (640x480) millions in DV format. I even tried to force the export to a customized setting with the 352x288 frame size and it still plays back at 720x480 making the video look fuzzy and stretched. We've already spent a few hours testing other options with no success.
Oh and what's odd is if I open the same exported file in FCP's Viewer the size is correct and when I view the exported file's info (Apple+I) it says Dimensions: 352x288. Codec is DV/DVCPRO - NTSC. One thing I just thought of while typing this is would changing the codec make a difference since the original footage is 720p from an HVX200 camera? If I should change it what should I change it too?
The viewers will be watching this in QT Player. I'm using FCP7 and QT7 also tested with QTX with the same results.
Any idea is better than none, thanks!

I was recording a song, finished it and everything went alright. Then I wanted to start with the recording of a new song. With the SAME plug-ins and settings as in the song before. I could record it all, but then, logic started crashing! Now, Logic crashes everytime I open up the new song as soon as I press play. But when I open up the older song, everything works just fine. I can press play without any problems, do things here and there... typical Logic stuff. So, it has to do with my new project! But why? I mean, I'm using everything the same way in both projects. Literally everything!
Now, here's one of my crash reports... please help. Please. Thanks in advance!

Safari keeps crashing every time I try to open a link from a different application, i.e. Mail. The trouble report says that some problem occurs with libcooliris.dylib plug-in. Can any one help?
Thanks!Dear Linc,
Thank you for the advice, John Blanchard1 and Linc Davis
As suggested in your reference thread I removed "/Library/Printers/hp/PDEs/hpPostScriptPDE.plugin" and the problem has been resolved.
I am guessing the the plug-in for the hp printers got corrupted and effected every thing, or became unsuitable when I installed an Apple update. I would be most grateful if you can confirm how the problem was coursed so I can understand and learn from this experiance.
