A total beginner with Blackberry Playbook

Hello
Someone got me a Blackberry Playbook, I certainly accepted the gift even though I wasn't sure what one of these was!
However since i got it, I am struggling to connect to wifi?> How can i fix this problem?. I have phoned up the support line which isnt much use,
I cant get past the connecting to wifi screen?
Without me sounding stupid.
Do you need to have this playbook plugged in at home near a computer?. Or is it portable? For example, can i take this round with me anywhere i go?
Or do i need to be near a wifi connection, totally confused havent got a clue whats going on
If anyone can help me (and boy i need help )> that would be great
If someone could also tell me how the playbook works what it does? i really dont have a clue!

Greetings and welcome to the community support forums!
Here are some links to help you setup and use your Playbook and learn more about it.
http://us.blackberry.com/support/tablets/playbook/get-started.html
That will help you connect to WiFi.
You don't need to be connected to a PC to use the Playbook, but if you need to be connected to the internet, you will need a Wifi connection, unless your model is a 4g model which connects over the air though a SIM card to your mobile network.
After reviewing the link above, come back and feel free to ask specific questions!

  • Issues with Blackberry Playbook not being recognised by Windows Explorer

Hello, I'm new to the forums but am having the same problems as many others are, that being my Playbook not regonised by Windows Explorer. I have tried all of the solutions I have read like unistalling Desktop Manager, uninstalling then re-installing drives in Windows Device Manager. But one I recently stumbled across was uninstalling Blackberry Device Manager, how do I do this?
Also the main problem appears to be that my Playbook will not sync anything with my computer. In Desktop Manager I can back-up my Playbook, but not sync anything. After re-installing a drive I now get the message of: 'Your Blackberry device is not compatible with this feature' whereas before I got the message of: 'You haven't configured any sync methods' but yet all of the sync options were greyed out.
How do I get Windows Explorer to recognise my Playbook as a drive and how can I sync in Desktop Manager?
    Thanks in advance!
    Note: I'm using Windows 7 32-Bit

  • Using Mac 10.4.11 with Blackberry Playbook

    hello everyone
is there any way that i can use my playbook with my powerpc imac 10.4.11
pleas any help would be grate seeing as i am very poor and just spent everything i had on this playbook only to find out i cannot sync it to my mac!
It would have been able to find this out prior to purchasing my playbook but i guess there is a sucker born every minute and so far my experience with Blackberry SUCKS!

Assuming that the Mac isn't a G3, you only need to purchase a newer Mac OS X version on DVD(10.5 for PowerPC Macs and 10.6 for Intel Macs.) Mac OS X 10.6 is free for paid MobileMe members.
A MacBook is an Intel Mac.

  • Trouble palying sound with blackberry playbook

hi guys, i am new here to the community.  i have a question.  i have some some reading, and i know waht the problem is. just need a couple of tips.  i am trying to play .avi videos with AC3 audio codec, which i know is unsupported by the playbook.  i converted the .ac3 to .mp3...my question now is, it onyl gives me a .mp3 file? where is my video? am i supposed to combine it or something?
    thanks
    Terry

Of course you have to convert your avi file to mp4, avi is a real old kind of codecing way alreay, many disadvantages of it came into view since so many new video formats come out like mp4, mov and others.
Maybe  you can watch a avi file with PB by a third party player or some other thing, but it would be real complicated and you will loss your passion in watching it after you finish all those installing stuff.
So all you have to do is convert your avi file to mp4, some video converters even have the option of devices like PB, ipad and some other thing. By the way, mp4 is more smaller than a avi file if they have the same quality.
    Hope this can help  Huuuuu

Do you have a BlackBerry Data Plan enabled on your account with your carrier or mobile provider?
You must, in order to get the RIM push email functions you are looking for, as well as addtional BlackBerry data services such as the internet browser, Facebook for BlackBerry, BlackBerry Messenger, and much more.
So, call your carrier and inquire about having the BlackBerry Data Plan added to your account.
    Good luck.

  • Total beginner with JC

    Hy all!
I am really new to the development of smart card applications and I would be very thankful if someone could answer some questions about it. I am working on Windows XP and I would like to write simple GUI application (Java) that communicates with a Java card. At the beginning this application should get a "Hello world" from the card. OK, I have to write normally Java code with some restrictions (I know these details). Now, how can I install/send my cap files on smart cards? What do I need to send APDU commands and to receive responses from card direct from my GUI application? Any drivers? Development Kit? I hope you will help me to make my first steps with Java cards. Thanks in advance.
    Best regards
    Ernad

    hi erno,
if i understood correctly, you have the following situation.
    1. u r working on win-xp
    2. you have OmniKey 5321 reader (USB-interface) and mifare-1k cards
the steps you can follow is below.
    1. you can use some USBtracing applications such as USBSpy or USBTrace (all trial versions or with limited functionality) to get the various command packets for reading or writing to mifare-1k card. (i think you have got some Vendor-applications or cd's along with the reader).
    - make a list of these commands for reading/writing.
    2. use LibUsb-win32 project to work with USB-port in windows. go thru following links. this is licensed under GPL.
    http://libusb-win32.sourceforge.net/
    http://libusb.wiki.sourceforge.net/
    http://sourceforge.net/projects/libusb-win32
    - for this project to work, you have to
2.1. install a supporting application on your system.
2.2. place libusbjava DLL in your java.library path.
2.3. use the ch.ntb.usb package to your need.
also the project contains two sample programs for reading and writing thru USB
    3. use core-java or java-swing (for GUI)to make use of the above project to meet your need
    hope this helps
    Sunil

  • Bought app in order to sync itunes with a blackberry playbook.  Now Itunes will open on my computer but when i plug  my ipods in to charge or sync, itunes is not showing that they are plugged in. Cant charge or anything!

Obviously not too smart with all this technology.  I puchased a Blackberry Playbook Tablet and wanted to sync my itunes music, so following directions on the Playbook, I downloaded this app - Daniel Bingham Itunes sync - and when I went to my pc, I pulled it up, plugged in my Playbook and it did sync all my music from my Itunes library to the Playbook.  However, now when I plug an ipod in my pc to charge or sync more music, my pc is not showing it recognizes any of my ipods being plugged in.  It makes no mention of any of my ipods being connected!  I also keep getting this "Found New Hardware Wizard" box that keeps popping up everytime I plug an ipod in - it originally showed up when I had Playbook plugged in to download all its info (I think) but it never completes, saying not compatible - so I click cancel. I have since clicked on remove New found hardware but it still pops up. Why does it continue to show with every Ipod now?  Any idea on what I can do to repair this situation?  Please help!

You performed all of the steps outlined in this link?

  • Can I use a BlackBerry Playbook with iMovie?

Hello: Although I reckon I'm going to have to spend quite some familiarising myself with iMovie before making any serious attempts at recording/uploading,etc, I would like to know if I can use thr video- recording  facility that's part of a BlackBerry Playbook I bought, in 2012 (it was almost a giveaway price in a store sale, even though I was then looking at buying an iPad.)

    @redstar12
Check your Settings > Network Connections > Mobile Network > Network Technology to tell me what are your network choices listed as? 2G, 3G, etc?
You may need to get a new SIM card from Vodafone.
Has the one you have now worked for 3G?

  • Playbook won't connect with blackberry desktop.

since last week I have been having problem with connecting my playbook with my pc.
I have google regarding this problem but it all seem that non of my search had same problem as mine. so here the problem i'm getting.
when i connect to my pc i get pop up from blackberry device manager saying that playbook is connected and my blackberry desktop run (have auto run option on) while connecting to playbook it give me error saying "If the device is rebooting or has a dead battery. click retry to attempt to recconect once the device reboots. if clicking retry doesn't connect the device, or the device isn't rebooting with a charged battery. you might need to update your blackberry table os to correct the problem." with 3 option of retry, update and cancel.
I tried both retry and update but it don't fix anything i'm keep getting same error.
now when i searched on google they said it might be mine usb cable but i'm very sure its not since blackberry device manager can see the playbook, and blackberry desktop can update the playbook.
just to give more info here is setting I use on my playbook.
    under security
password enable (this was enable even before i had this problem)
    development mode enable
    under storage & sharing
    usb connections: automatically detect
    File Sharing On
    Wi-Fi sharing On
    Password Protect Off
that the only setting i have set it up on my playbook.
    playbook os. 2.0.1.358
    blackberry desktop version. 7.1.0.32
    blackberry device manager. 6.0.0.48
    Windows 7 Professional 64bit

  • Total Frustration with Playbook

I bought the Playbook about 8 months ago and it's been nothing but frustrating from day one.
To begin with the device has a problem with my home wifi connection, it connects sporadically but when connected interferes with any other devices also using the wifi network. The only solution is to turn off the Playbook and restart the router in order to get the other laptops to use the wifi.
The next problem was that the playbook wouldn't charge the tablet would draw down the battery but even though when plugged in it showed the device was charging (with the little lightening bolt) the charge percentage would never increase. I found this so maddening I put the tablet away and forgot about it.
Lately I saw there was an upgrade available (I am on OS 2.01) and I thought maybe the upgrade would fix all my problems. I've now tried 3 times to upgrade to OS 2.1 with no success. I've tried using WiFi and using the desktop software each time it went through the entire download and install process (taking several minutes) only to see that the OS was never upgraded.
I'm at the end of my rope, I'll never buy another BlackBerry device and I've been a loyal user for years. I'd love to send the tablet back for repairs but I bought it directly from RIM and I've no idea how I'd go about that.
I'd be interested in hearing any suggestions or similar experiences from other users...did I just get a lemon??

I had quite a lot of router trouble with the Playbook but got very good help from some of the people from this forum (despite a LOT of venting of frustration on my part - so I totatlly know how you might be feeling about now).
    For the router..
Basically, the PlayBook prefers the latest in routers. If yours, like mine, is an older model and you have a lot of wireless devices, then you will probably experience everything from crashing the router itself to losing the IP connection and repeatedly timing out on the reconnect.
The problem and solution (that I experienced) are covered here:
    http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/BlackBerry-PlayBook/Playbook-crashing-wifi-network-802-11-g-n...
Unfortunately, someone in the house screwed up the network and I had to reset it and possibly missed a step which led to some masive frustration again on my part and more help.. if you are missing any answers in the first thread, it will likely be in the two-parts that sorted my connectivity problems the second time which got it going nicely for good (touch wood).
    http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/BlackBerry-PlayBook/Fed-up-Playbook-Unable-to-Acquire-IP-addr... and
    http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/BlackBerry-PlayBook/PLS-REVIEW-SETTINGS-Wifi-interference-PB-...
You should be able to sort out the router without dealing with the PlayBook, but it won't address your probelms related to the OS update.
    For the upgrade..
I'm afraid I don't have anything to help with this one. I haven't done the update yet. There are a couple of other posts from people who have had trouble with it. Some of the problem may have happened if you did the update by wifi and then connected to a desktop manager that didn't know how to recognize the PlayBook anymore because of the version change since its last sync. There are some comments on this post that happened to cross-thread with one of my own earlier today and maybe this will help you...
    http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/BlackBerry-PlayBook/Frustration-upon-frustration-after-OS-upd...
Good luck. If you need help with the router issue I'll keep an eye out to see if I can be of any help.

  • I cannot get my new Ipod Nano to pair with my bluetooth Headphones. It just searches endlessly.  These same headphones work with my blackberry playbook.  Does Apple only allow certain bluetooth devices to pair?  i.e. only the ones sold on their site?

I cannot get my new Ipod Nano to pair with my bluetooth Headphones.  It searches without finding it. This headset works fine with my blackberry playbook.  Any suggestions?

thanks for reply... I saw on the Nano package that it is only compatible with bluetooth 4v.  Is that the same as A2DP.
    That's probably the problem... it wasn't a high-end headset.
