A trick to scrolling in grid view?

The mouse wheel only seems to be intermittently successful at scrolling the grid.  Sometimes I have to scroll up and down and wait for the grid to "catch"  I know the three dots indicate that the preview isn't loaded, but even after that i continue to have issues.  Scrolling on the bar immediately to the right of the grid doesn't help, nor does holding down the mouse wheel.  Sometimes it seems to go back [up] but refuses to go forward [grid moving down] Would it help to dump all the smart previews that it's unlikely I will use?  If so, how is that done?

Just to confirm.  You are experiencing this issue while scrolling thumbnails in the Library Grid area as below, correct?
Two things to try next:
1) If your Intuos Pro S is connected "wireless" connect it via a USB cable, charge the battery for 60 minutes or more and then try using it with the USB cable.
2) Find a folder with 50-100 image files that exhibits the issue. 'Select All' of the images in the folder (CTRL + A keys) and then go to menu Library> Previews> and select "Build 1:1 Previews.' This will build the 1:1 previews and Standard previews used in the Gird view. Wait for the Preview Building to finish. Then try scrolling again with the your USB cable connected Intuos Pro S.

    This is a bug.
I don't think it is rendering problem, because LR renders in background. (Though, it would be nice to have quicker rendering)
I think it is a locks in DB bottleneck when LR gets draft images from database. This code should be revised:
    - DB requests shouldn't be performed on paint thread
    - current locks should be worked out.

  • LR 1.3 Grid View Pixelation

    Guys,
I have recently upgraded to 1.3 from 1.2 on a new 2.8Ghz imac with 4GB running 10.5.1 using LR and I have noticed that the grid view in library mode shows pictures heavily pixelated for a few seconds when I scroll the grid view. After a few seconds the view is corrected as expected.
I do not recall this problem with 1.2 and I was wondering if something has changed in 1.3 or if I need to do some extra step to get back to the snappy LR grid view that I remember.
Also, has the 'discard previews after 30 days' option been dropped from LR now? I remember it in 1.0 but cannot find it anymore.
Any advice appreciated. Love the program!

I'm rendering 1:1 previews at present, but even wit that going on in the background the scrolling isn't to bad when I put my Logictech Performance mouse scroll wheel in to free spin mode. The video shows free wheel scrolling when mouse is placed over grid, over the scrollbar and lastly slow scrolling. In the video I scroll through just over 20,000 images. The display is 30inch.
That looks somewhat better than I'm seeing, but still pretty terrible.  Lots of jumping, not much smooth scrolling.  LR 2.x performed much better than that on my old, slow hardware.

  • Scroll Bar not functioning in Grid View with All Photographs selected

    LR 4.3 on Windows 7
I can scroll through a bunch of photos while in grid view with the right side slider when I am looking at a folder with 15,000 images or less, but when I click the All Photographs, there is no little slider button. The slider tray is visible, but no button to drag. The catalog has 180,000 images now. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
I tried using a text search within my All Photographs which brought up 71,000 images. The slider showed up fine with that many images.

Okay, I will answer my own question in case anyone else sees the problem.
When I am viewing my large catalog with only three thumbnails across in LR, I lose the little button to slide up and down. When I change Grid View to show four or more thumbnails, the button reappears. I'd suggest this is a bug needing fixing.

  • Grid view slow to scroll

My preference is to view my albums by grid view.
However, I'm getting frustrated that when I scroll there is a short wait while it loads up the next lot of album cover art. The bit I don't understand is why it doesn't do this in the background ahead of time in the knowledge that when I'm in grid view I'm very likely to be scrolling and therefore it should load all the album artwork into memory.
Currently, i tend to force the complete scroll before I search, just so it is all loaded up and then I can smoothly scroll while I'm perusing my music.
Is there a way I can force this caching? I have boat loads of memory (3GB) most of which is free at anyone time. I also tend to leave iTunes on all the time so it would be better if iTunes could hold all this in memory.
    Any suggestions gratefully received!

I'm having exactly the same problem. I can't find a hidden preference to cache the thumbnails of album covers, and consequently, in grid view, the overall effect is slow and amateurish.

  • Smooth scrolling in Library (grid view)

The scrolling has been greatly improved in grid view. It feels not slugginsh anymore (I do have one of the latest iMac + SSD) at rendering the thumbnails.
However, the view is still not using the smooth scrolling hability in Mac OS: it scolls by steps which is very annoying because it is perfectly smooth when grabing the view between thumbnails.

  • HELP - Library Left pane scroll issues ( when in grid view )

I've run into a issue that is really starting to piss me off and hinder my workflow!
When in Library mode grid view, I can't scroll left folder/publish service with my mouse scroll wheel. UNLESS I'm hovering over the scroll bar.  If I'm hovering over a folder, I can't scroll ( VERY annoying )
now this is where it gets weird, when in loupe / thumbnail view, I can scroll the left pane fine with no issues.  Also, scrolling the left or right pane in Develop mode with no issues as well.
Also, it seems like the when scrolling the right pane in Library view is a bit flakey ( it scrolls, but pauses at some places )
I've read THIS thread, but I dont have any of that type of software on my PC.
I've tried 3 different mice with no fix.
Any help or ideas would be appreciated.
    thanks

@sjmphoto0300: I have a Dell XPS 15 502X laptop (running Win 7 Home) and had the same scrolling issue as you in LR 3.6 when in the Library module only (the Develop module sidebar scrolling works fine). I could not scroll using my touchpad on the left or right pane unless my cursor was directly over either thin grey scroll bar or on the actual sidebar headings (e.g. "Catalog," "Folders," or "Quick Develop"). Mousing over the latter would only enable me to scroll until the cursor was no longer over the heading which was pretty useless.
I have Synaptics TouchPad v7.4 installed. While I don't have an option in my Mouse properties to specify certain programs that don't scroll properly as mentioned in another post, I did find a solution that works for me!
I had to do TWO things to get scrolling in the sidebars working properly:
    1) In this thread (http://forums.adobe.com/message/3888114#3888114) it was mentioned that the Synaptics scrolling graphic that appears (see screenshot below) interferes with scrolling and the scrolling graphic can be disabled with a registry tweak and then restart the Synaptics applications (2) or reboot.
    2) Right-click an empty spot on the desktop and go to Personalize > Change Mouse Pointers > Device Settings (Synaptics logo on tab) > Settings. Click on Scrolling on the left of the Synaptics Properties window > Scroll item under pointer. Click Enable.
That got sidebar scrolling working without having to keep the cursor hovering above the skinny scrollbars. It seems like the Synaptics software doesn't recognize what area is always scrollable in Lightroom when "Scroll selected item" is selected.
Hope this helps someone else out there.

  • Itunes store/grid view scrolling stutter in itunes 9.0.2.25 x64bit

    Any ideas guys?

  • Slow-to-load album covers in Grid View

I've encountered a problem for a while that I thought I might bring up...
Whenever I start iTunes, it defaults to Grid View, the only view I use when browsing iTunes. Now, I'm unsure if iTunes caches album art or not, but every time I boot it up and scroll down, all of my albums appear artless for half a second before slowly applying the album art. This makes scrolling down incredibly slow and clunky.
Once I fully scroll down, I can scroll smoothly all I want, but if I close iTunes, everything is clunky again. Any tips? Does iTunes not cache album art?

iTunes will need to load all of your artwork when using cover flow and grid view. There IS a cache folder in the Album Artwork folder of iTunes, but i don't know how effective that is.
However, if you are running a version earlier than 9.2, iTunes 9.2 runs cover flow and grid view A LOT faster than previous versions, since what it does is create thumbnail versions of your images for those views only, making those views operate a heck of a lot quicker.
I know 9.2 still has some bugs and some people may advise against it, but if you really want to see a boost of performance with grid view I'd recommend updating if you haven't already. Besides, for any bugs there, Apple will probably release fixes for them shortly.

  • Print Grid View

I have 300+ movies in iTunes and would like to print a catalog of the artwork/titles exactly how Grid View displays it in iTunes.
I know I can print an album list using the print menu, but that would take way too much paper.
I can't seem to find any way to print a grid view. I've even tried to find a scrolling print screen capture utility or a third-pary movie database app that would import my itunes data (and then allow me to print it), but not having any luck.
Is there really not an easy way in iTunes to print what we see in the Grid View?

Use the Grab application in your iMac's Utilities folder to take a series of captures as you scroll manually.

  • ITunes 9 Grid view header disabled by default

Ok, the subject is pretty clear. In Grid view the so-called header - the pane on top where the Albums-Artists-Genres-Composers buttons are, and also the scroll box is - is disabled in default view for every playlist, including main library. One needs to turn it on for each playlist manually. Or maybe I just don't know something?

    THANK YOU!
I was having the same issue. I have always used the top columns (in descending order to reduce my options) to sort through my library and was desperately searching for column view controls. I was already considering reinstalling the old Itunes.
In Itunes 8 I remember that the column view was turned off and on with Ctrl + B. That still works but I hadnt figured out how to control it untill I found your post.
    Lots of thanks.

  • Tumbnails missing in Grid view for project

I've searched prior discussions but did not see the same issue listed.
Referenced files on internal drive, Aperture v2.1, OS X 10.5.2 and PowerMac Quad.
I'd been sorting out iPhoto and Aperture dups. and consolidating everything into Aperture. I noticed that one project had 214 images, yet only displayed around 5. No scroll bars etc. I rebuilt the library and tried a reset permissions but the project remained in error. Since I had the masters and that project had few if any edits, I merely secured my masters, deleted the project and reimported the masters.
Has anyone seen a similar issue and if so, found a fix/workaround for when there are ost of edits?

Sorry guys, i meant since iTunes 10 and not 9! Grid view worked fine on 9.
