A/v out to vcr

I have a new imac and am editing with final cut studio 2. I am using a graid 2tb as my external disk array. I still need to spit video out to tape sometimes as I work in small market tv. I do not want to have to send a quicktime to the mac hd, unplug my graid and plug in my firewire video in out. Do I have any other options so that I can leave my graid plugged into the firewire 800 port and spit video out to a dvcpro vcr?

You should probably post in the Final Cut Studio forum located at:

I'm trying to connect my TV Out SVIDEO to the VIDEO IN of my VCR.  VCR works fine with any other venue, so that's not the problem.
I go to properties, advanced, nview and it won't detect the VCR to allow me to cone my desktop to it..
Any suggestions?  Do I have to run straight to a TV, THEN the vcr??

  • Need Help Recording Programs from my DVR to my VCR

Can someone please tell to reocrd a program from DVR to my VCR without getting  all snow
    Here is my set up
    TV- Sony
    VCR/DVD- Sony  SLV-D300P
    DVR- QIP7200

How many threads do you need for the same question?  This was asked HERE and answered, but you seem incapable of taking the instructions given successfully.
Yellow from DVR Video Out to VCR Video In
White from DVR Audio Left Out to VCR Audio Left In
Red from DVR Audio Out  Right to VCR Audio Right In
The inset color of the RCA jacks (color inside the silver ring) matches the cables.
Set VCR to LINE INPUT, play the DVR recording and record on the VCR.  If that is too difficult then get Geek Squad or someone who understands how to connect components.  The connections are also shown in the DVR manual.
I have been using this exact set of connections for 2 years and it works fine.

  • VCR tuner no longer works

Is anyone experiencing the issue with the VCR Tuner no longer working. I have Verizon FIOS TV. Does anyone know if Verizon has switch to a pure digital signal, as mandated my the FCC.

    Telcoguru wrote:
If you have a VCR with FiOS. The connection is as follows coax from Verizon network to RF in on set top box the RF out from cable box to the RF in on VCR and the RF out on VCR to the RF in on the Television set. To record you must tune your VCR to channel 3 ONLY and tune the set top box channel to the one you would like to record. The television should be set for channel 3 also.
Personally, I would not use the RF OUTPUT since it won't give you stereo audio and you are dealing with multiple modulation / demodulation.  I would use the line input of the VCR with composite video and the L-R RCA audio.
The answer the OP was looking for is that Verizon is either all digital or going to be within the next couple of months (depending on where you live)

  • Sony Z1 Print to video HDV problems

I researched several post on this topic and still can't get this to work. Here's my situation. I have imported and edited my HDV footage in the HDV easy set up in FCP 5. I now want to record this HDV sequence (in HDV format) back to a Sony Master tape using my Z1. I am working in a PAL environment and have dbl checked all my settings on the camera and within FCP and I still can't get the video to output. I just get a blue screen on my camera monitor. Can the Sony Z1 even record back to tape in HDV format? When I have the IN/OUT Rec setting set to HDV, REC MODE is greyed out. Only when I have this set to DV or Auto is the REC MODE open to changes. I have my camera set to VCR and the settings are these on the camera:
IN/OUT Rec: VCR HDV/DV is set to HDV (Thats what I want to record in, yes?)
    REC MODE: Greyed out
    Component is 1080i (Pal)
    iLink is set to off
A/V to D/V Out is off
Final Cut Pro settings: (Audio Video Settings)
Summary Tab: Sequence Preset is: HDV-1080i50
    Capture Preset is HDV
    Device Control: Sony Firewire
    AV Device Tab:
    Playback Output Video: NONE
    Audio: Default
"Different Output for Edit to tape/print to video" Certain settings are greyed out. On this it depends on what my camera is set to in the IN/OUT Rec setting.
Please, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Been trying to get this to work for days.

Have you tested the camera with non-HDV just to make sure the camera works?

  • HDV Print to Video, My Settings

I've seen several posts here about problems getting Print To Video to work with HDV. I just did this and the results were great. So, at the risk of being redundant, I'm going to post what I did.
Camera: Sony FX1, captured using the camera over Firewire.
Captured into FCP using Easy Setup HDV 1080i60
All the footage was nighttime fast action sports.
In the sequence I slowed almost all the footage down to 33.33%, with Frame Blending turned on.
    No dissolves, all simple cuts.
No other filters, motion, overlays, graphics, etc.
    Sony FX1 Menu Settings:
    IN/OUT REC
    VCR HDV/DV > AUTO
    REC MODE > SP
    COMPONENT > 1080i/48Oi
    iLINK CONV > OFF
    TV TYPE > 16:9
    A/V TO D/V OUT > OFF
Final Cut Pro Settings: (as viewed from MENU>FINAL CUT PRO>AUDIO VIDEO SETTINGS...
    Summary Tab
    Sequence Preset: HDV - 1080i60
    Capture Preset: HDV
    Device Control: Sony HDV Firewire
    Video Playback: None
    Audio Playback: None
    Sequence Presets Tab
    HDV - 1080i60
    Capture Presets Tab
    HDV
    Device Control Tab
    Sony HDV Firewire
    A/V Devices Tab
    Playback Output
    Video: None
    Audio: Default
"CHECKED" Different Output for Edit to Tape/Print to Video
    Video: HDV (1440 x 1080) 30 fps
    "CHECKED" Mirror on Desktop
    Audio: Default
"NOT CHECKED" Do not show External A/V ...
"NOT CHECKED" Do no show warning ...
Before you Print To Video, make sure you have the Sequence in the Timeline selected. Otherwise you might get an error message. Also, make sure the Camera has a tape and its sitting at the spot you want to print to. (FCP will control the camera)
    Then I choose: MENU>FILE>PRINT TO VIDEO ...
    Leader: Nothing checked here
Media: Print In to Out (which was set on the Timeline) nothing else checked
    Trailer: "CHECKED" Black 5 seconds
    "CHECKED" Automatically Start Recording
After you click OK, your sequence will most likely go through a Conforming process, which conforms the sequence as required for HDV. (different from a render) Then the screen will go black, and you can click OK, FCP will cue up the camera, put it in record mode and start the print. (export)
One note: I thought I had also checked MENU>VIEW>EXTERNAL VIDEO>ALL FRAMES. However, when I was done, I checked this menu again and it was set to OFF. So, to be honest I don't know if I did check it and it went back to off, or it was not in fact checked. (lots of messing around prior to getting it to work, sorry)

wish I could get it to work consistantly for my GR-HD1 from JVC. terrible that one of the first cameras on the market isn't fully supported by FCP5.
I have to fiddle around endlessly to get the camera recognised. Usually in Camera mode and then quickly switch the Cam back to VCR mode after FCP recognizes it.
The people at the Sony Store here in San Francisco are so rude and ignorant that I will die before buying a camera from them. I went in to buy 3 cameras for my company a month ago and couldn't get any service. The only one paying attention to me was the security guard who kept coming over to tell me that I couldn't touch the camera in the display. I asked the sales staff I finally got to help me a question about the HDV cameras, and he just dissappeared. Never to return. Eff them.
I will stick to JVC even if it means changing my shop over to PCs. Which has been happening a lot around me lately. Video production people fed up with Apple refusing to support equipement. PC software is fully compliant to the entire spectrum of video out there. The blessings of being an open format I guess.
But, I love my G5 and would miss it.

  • HDV & FCP - Can anyone explain this in layman's terms??

Okay, I have a broad but limited understanding of all these technical terms for HDV and FCP and I am still banging my head against the wall in frustration!!
I make videos underwater for divers and the company I work for. I have just moved into the world of HDV and am using the Sony FX1 and FCP Studio.
I have many areas I am looking for help in:
    1. After I have captured my footage to FCP and I pull clips from logged footage, ever clip that goes into the timeline needs rendering - 8 sec of footage takes 5-10min to render, this is before any effects!!! Does anyone know what could be the cause of this? I have checked and re-checked all my A/V settings, capture settings, etc. but still cannot figure out why every clip I drag to the timeline requires rendering.
    2. Footage I capture looks great as it's capturing but when I play it back in the viewer or Canvas it looks as though I've shot it during a heatwave - it sort of goes fuzzy then clear, fuzzy then clear - not terribly so, but enough to make me scream with frustration at the "not-so-nice" video
    3. Can anyone explain in simple terms how I downconvert a sequence before exporting for use in DVDSP 4? I am a little unfamiliar with Compressor and besides Compressor takes 8 hours to compress a simple 6min video!!!
Has anyone else encountered these problems? Does anyone have any answers before I end up a drivelling wreck??

I am at my wit's end trying to work out where I am going wrong. I have set FCP (5.0.2) to "Easy Setup" for my Sony FX1. The camera is set up as follows:
    IN/OUT REC
    VCR HDV/DV - HDV
    COMPONENT - 1080i/480i
    i.LINK CONV - OFF
    TV TYPE - 16:9
    A/V-DV OUT - OFF
I have tried to log and capture footage three times now and every time I have to render simple clips taken from the Viewer into the Timeline. I haven't done any special effects, they are just plain old clips. Rendering a 7 second clip takes approx. 8min!! I can't move forward with my editing having to render every single clip I drag to the timeline.
I have searched high and low for an answer to this problem but no one else seems to have this problem or has yet to come up with a solution! Can anyone please help me? This is driving me crazy!?

  • Video, DVD, Nintendo Wii and live Television.

I have had my BT Vision box for about 4 months now. I have not been able to play DVD's or Video's or play on my Wii without disconnecting all the Scart leads and having only one in the back of the TV...
Is there a way to have all my Scart leads plugged in and be able to flick between the DVD, Video, Wii and live Television? Please Help.

What other input options does your TV have - does it have an AV (red, yellow and white inputs).  If so I'd stick the Wii through that without using the scart adapter that comes with the Wii.
Those multi scart adapters will do the job but they are a bit clumsy and you often end up wondering what input you're watching.  Does your VCR have 2 Scart Sockets (normally 1 output only and one In/Out)
Other than that I would go for (are you sitting comfortably) -
    DVD into VCR (In/Out socket)
    VCR out into Vision Box
    Vision Box to TV
That way, the last thing you switch on should take control of the Scart socket.
    The other option would be:
    DVD into Vision Box
    Vision Box into TV
    Aerial Lead to VCR input
VCR Output aerial to Vision Box
    Vision Box aerial to TV
That way you could watch the VCR via good old fashioned RF - like I say this assumes your TV has an AV input and your VCR has 2 Scart sockets. - I'm also assuming your TV is an older model without a component AV option?
As Sparko's only had the service for 4 months then I assume (s)he has a Black vbox and they don't do RF out so then second option is out. The first option you suggested should just work though without the need for a switch.

  • Troubles w/ Analog video transfer  DAC-200

Setup - S-Video out from VCR (RCA DRC8320N) to in on Datavideo DAC-200
    - red/white audio out from VCR to in on converter.
    - white/yellow out from converter to white/yellow on monitor
    - Firewire out from converter to Mac
    - converter settings - "AV" and "16-bit"; DIP switches - 4 and 5 on and
    the rest are off
Results - "Camera Connected" on iMovie screen. I play video from VCR. I press "Import" Nothing but bluescreen (counter stays at zero), but message says "camera playing". When I press the stop button on iMovie the converter switches from AV to DV.
    PLEASE HELP!

    Here is an alternate solution:
If you have a digital video camera, attach it to your VCR or other analog device. Set it up to record from the analog device - see your owner's manual. Record the VCR material onto dv tape. Then, connect the camera to your computer using firewire or USB. Import into iMovie as if you had shot the footage yourself on your camera.
I have been successful using this method for old VCR home movies, laser disks, etc.
It is time consuming and takes many steps, but it works!

  • Can't record with Toshiba DVR D-R410KU

Phasing out my VCR - bought a DVR - Toshiba Model - D-R410KU. I can not get this thing to record to save my life. I can get it to play DVDs just fine. When I try to record I can not see the TV screen either - it's just a blue screen. Should there not be something like with a VCR that is TV/VCR or SOMETHING? I already set the L1/L2 - so I don't think it's that. I am using RCA cables and have cable TV. Any suggestions? I'm really new at this so not sure what info I need to submit for someone to better help me - so if you have questions and need more detail let me know. I would really love to keep this thing - I hate standing in line to return items!! One thing about this DVR - It's not easy to run in the least!!

That just leads me to their tech support which is no help at all! Is there a DVR that anyone knows of that can record without being on that specific channel? I'm taking this thing back - if it's that hard to record then I'll just exchange it.

  • Recording from vcr

My 17 in G4 powerbook has svideo which allows me to watch movies on my tv. Question is, is this svideo conection in and out? I'd like to use it to record from my VCR to digitize some of my older vhs footage.
    Peter

I've converted VHS movies into a digital format. The easiest way to to that is to get an analog to digital converter box. I have an older version of http://desktop.grassvalley.com/products/ADVC55/index.php which works just fine with my Powerbook. They also make additional models with more features. If you have a video camera that allows an RCA input with a Firewire output, I'd guess that would also work.
The easiest way to do it is to use the iMovie application, then use iDvd to create a DVD. If you get into it, you may find some limitations in iMovie and iDvd, in which case Final Cut Express would be a good step up.

    Yes!
Look for the Canopus ADVC110, which connects to your VCR via the RCA cables and your Mac via Firewire.
