A/V settings - missing video playback settings

I am a new FCP user (5 months) but have not been having too much trouble. I have been on Avid for 5 years plus; Thursday I imported some Avid NTSC 720/480 footage into Final Cut (29.97 fps of course) - which displays successfully. But now I cannot return to the settings I need to edit material in HDV 23.98 fps projects. The video playback settings for HDV 24p 60i are now all missing/deselected. What is more, the program is crashing a lot. No sound, no video playback. Clearly we need to make different projects in different admin users for Avid product - but how do we get our settings back? Help!

There is no such thing as HDV 24p60i... it's one or the other. In fact, you should be able to import or capture that material, place a clip in any sequence, and FCP will ask you if you'd like to set the sequence's settings to match the clip's properties, and you simply say yes.
Where are you having the problem? Which camera was used? There is an "easy setup" for HDV cameras, but they are different a bit from camera to camera... Sony is different than Canon for example... might try those too.
Try trashing your preferences for FCP found in User/library/preferences/fcp user data folder. There are three red and white icon'd files there. Just trash them, and they will rebuild to factory settings when you relaunch FCP.

  • PLEASE HELP WITH VIDEO PLAYBACK SETTINGS

    Hi,
I am using Ppro 5.5 and everytime I play the video on the monitor why does it look horrible? It shows orange lines it does not look clear. I have the output to:
    PLAYBACK RESOLTION:  FULL
    PLAYBACK SETTINGS: EXTERNAL DEVICE: NONE
ASPECT RATIO CONVERSION: HARDWARE (IF SUPORTED)
    COMPOSITE VIDEO FOR VIEWING
Your help will be appreciate it. Thank you.

What are the specifications of the clip?
What sequence settings are being used?
    What operating system?
What graphics card and driver are you using?
Have you updated to 5.5.1 yet?

  • Optimum settings for video playback on 5800 Xpress...

    Hello.
I want to find out what are the best setting to use for converting videos for watching on the 5800.
I will be converting from EyeTV files using a Mac. I can use either the ‘Export’ function from EyeTV or VisualHub – both have a huge range of formats and settings.
I could spend considerable time playing around with settings, but thought it easier to ask, as someone might of done this before.
The fact that I am using a Mac is unimportant - what I need are the optimum settings for: format, bitrate etc?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

i have h264/aac working in either a mp4 or a 3gp container, settings are 352x198 1000kbps ABR video 128kbps audio, baseline level 1.0, no b-frames, no cabac are the main things to remember. this is the largest size 16/9 aspect h264 the 5800 will play,  this gives really good watchable video though and even dropping the video bitrate to 600kbps ABR still gives watchable video. i have attached a mediainfo output file for you to get the full settings i use, hopefully someone will find good use for this

  • Video playback on external monitor only producing still frame

I am trying to use a HD TV as a playback device as managed to get it to work, however it has now stopped working and only produces a still frame. When I hit play it will play fine in the timeline but display only a still frame on the second monitor. I have made sure that the settings under video playback are set to full screen and that mirroring is turned off.
Even when I play back on Main the image on the main monitor only displays a still frame until the second monitor is unplugged.
    Am I missing something?

    How is the TV connected?
If via firewire and an analog/DV converter, are you feeding the HDTV something other than a DV signal? If so, it won't work.

  • Missing video device / apple firewire

When trying to caputure, a box comes up that says "attempt to capture video without a video device. Please select video device from capture presets."
Under capture presets, where it lists all the settings for each preset, it says: "WARNING video device dv video is missing."
Under a/v settings -> summary -> video playback, it says "[missing] Apple firewire PAL." (I'm using PAL)
When trying to log and capture, I can't see the image, but can control the camera.
Background: I just reinstalled FCP HD and Quicktime.
If anyone has any ideas about this, it would be greatly appreciated.

    Nathan,
The setup of you system is a little unclear from your profile.
Are working in 10.3.9 with FCP4.5 and now gone back to QT6.5.2?
If so, that is a very reliable grouping. I'd say, unless you have changed or added a drive, changed the firewire port the drive is connected to or changed some other physical element, the QT reinstall is not working as it should.
Try trashing the receipts, download the full installer and then run it from your hard drive again.
    Good luck.

  • Sony HDV Walkman not seen for video playback

    Hello.
Bit of a problem - have just taken delivery of two spanking new Sony GV-HD700E decks to use in our edit suites at work.
Capturing from the decks works like a charm in both HDV (at both 1080i50 and 25p) and DV-PAL (4:3 and Anamorphic). Playback controls are also working fine.
The problem is when I use 'Print To Video' - everything works fine in DV, but unfortunately the settings under 'Video Playback' for all HDV formats are greyed out - I can't get ANY playback in HDV to the deck at all.
I've tried all the HDV Device Control Presets without success (including unplugging the Firewire cables, restarting the deck and the Mac after each change).
The Sony site says the device definitely takes HDV in, so I was just wondering if it's a driver issue?
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.
    Jim
NB - I did plug the Firewire cables back in each time...

What that means is you cannot externally monitor HDV without a 3rd party card or box. You can, however, Print to Video with HDV. I've done it successfully with a Sony V1U with FCS 1 (FCP 5.1.4) and now with FCS 2.
If everything is connected and powered up in the proper order, it should work with the same Easy Setup used to originally capture the footage for the project.
It's very important that the camera or deck be connected to the mac via firewire and then powered up before the computer is turned on. After powering up the mac, launching FCP, and opening your project, make sure the timeline window with your finished, rendered/conformed sequence is activated.
Then, go to Print to Video, make your selections, select the 'Start Recording Automatically' box, and hit OK. Your sequence will do some additional conforming, and then your camera/deck should begin to record as the sequence plays out.
In addition, make sure other firewire devices and cables are disconnected during the Print to Video operation. I've done it successfully with other drives and devices connected, but it could cause problems with certain setups.

  • Best settings for ipod video playback on TV

I would like to know which video format is the best for a very good video playback on TV using ipod video ? And which settings choose for the video to have the best possible quality on TV, while still being able to store a lot of videos on the ipod.
I use a 1.67ghz powerbook, and the convertion process is so long, is it normal for it to be that long. I thought that powerbook were suppose to be really fast. Would buying more ram help ?
    thank you

If you're using QuickTime Pro's "Movie to iPod", then you're getting very good video quality. The reason why this takes so long is that instead of just compressing the video, it first examines the entire video looking for places that may be a little more difficult to encode (cross fades, cuts, high motion) then spending more time on them in the second pass. So, yeah, it's normal to take that long, but, in this case, that's how you get the best output.
Depending on your source (if it's from a VHS tape or something like that) you might want to download MPEG Streamclip and try H.263 or H.264 with only one pass. It's a bit faster and the results still look pretty good so that may suit you as well.

  • HDV Print to Video, My Settings

I've seen several posts here about problems getting Print To Video to work with HDV. I just did this and the results were great. So, at the risk of being redundant, I'm going to post what I did.
Camera: Sony FX1, captured using the camera over Firewire.
Captured into FCP using Easy Setup HDV 1080i60
All the footage was nighttime fast action sports.
In the sequence I slowed almost all the footage down to 33.33%, with Frame Blending turned on.
    No dissolves, all simple cuts.
No other filters, motion, overlays, graphics, etc.
    Sony FX1 Menu Settings:
    IN/OUT REC
    VCR HDV/DV > AUTO
    REC MODE > SP
    COMPONENT > 1080i/48Oi
    iLINK CONV > OFF
    TV TYPE > 16:9
    A/V TO D/V OUT > OFF
Final Cut Pro Settings: (as viewed from MENU>FINAL CUT PRO>AUDIO VIDEO SETTINGS...
    Summary Tab
    Sequence Preset: HDV - 1080i60
    Capture Preset: HDV
    Device Control: Sony HDV Firewire
    Video Playback: None
    Audio Playback: None
    Sequence Presets Tab
    HDV - 1080i60
    Capture Presets Tab
    HDV
    Device Control Tab
    Sony HDV Firewire
    A/V Devices Tab
    Playback Output
    Video: None
    Audio: Default
"CHECKED" Different Output for Edit to Tape/Print to Video
    Video: HDV (1440 x 1080) 30 fps
    "CHECKED" Mirror on Desktop
    Audio: Default
"NOT CHECKED" Do not show External A/V ...
"NOT CHECKED" Do no show warning ...
Before you Print To Video, make sure you have the Sequence in the Timeline selected. Otherwise you might get an error message. Also, make sure the Camera has a tape and its sitting at the spot you want to print to. (FCP will control the camera)
    Then I choose: MENU>FILE>PRINT TO VIDEO ...
    Leader: Nothing checked here
Media: Print In to Out (which was set on the Timeline) nothing else checked
    Trailer: "CHECKED" Black 5 seconds
    "CHECKED" Automatically Start Recording
After you click OK, your sequence will most likely go through a Conforming process, which conforms the sequence as required for HDV. (different from a render) Then the screen will go black, and you can click OK, FCP will cue up the camera, put it in record mode and start the print. (export)
One note: I thought I had also checked MENU>VIEW>EXTERNAL VIDEO>ALL FRAMES. However, when I was done, I checked this menu again and it was set to OFF. So, to be honest I don't know if I did check it and it went back to off, or it was not in fact checked. (lots of messing around prior to getting it to work, sorry)

wish I could get it to work consistantly for my GR-HD1 from JVC. terrible that one of the first cameras on the market isn't fully supported by FCP5.
I have to fiddle around endlessly to get the camera recognised. Usually in Camera mode and then quickly switch the Cam back to VCR mode after FCP recognizes it.
The people at the Sony Store here in San Francisco are so rude and ignorant that I will die before buying a camera from them. I went in to buy 3 cameras for my company a month ago and couldn't get any service. The only one paying attention to me was the security guard who kept coming over to tell me that I couldn't touch the camera in the display. I asked the sales staff I finally got to help me a question about the HDV cameras, and he just dissappeared. Never to return. Eff them.
I will stick to JVC even if it means changing my shop over to PCs. Which has been happening a lot around me lately. Video production people fed up with Apple refusing to support equipement. PC software is fully compliant to the entire spectrum of video out there. The blessings of being an open format I guess.
But, I love my G5 and would miss it.

  • FCP 6 Sequence Settings and RT playback problem

    Hi everyone
Have recently bought a copy of Final Cut Pro Studio for my macbook pro
I know to play video in FCP in real time all the sequence settings need to match the captured video/file settings of the clip.
All my settings are matching, Ive tripple checked them but they are STILL saying I need to render the clip before playback in SafeRT.
Have tried deleating files and re-importing them ect still no go.
The file ive imported is a DVCPRO HD codec.
I cant render everytime I want to play a video - thats not an option. It should be okay if all the settings match (Which I belive they do) but still not working.... is there a vital setting I may have missed?
Im running FCP 6 on a
    Mackbook pro 17"
    5400 rpm sata drive
NIVIDIA 8600 geforce 256MB graphics card
    160GB hard drive
    2.0 MB Memory
    this prob is SO WEIRD
    cheers
    h

Yeah tried doing that, plays okay but really want to get the safeRT working properly
wow - i didnt realize that the 5400rpm drive in the macbook pro would preform so poorley with compressed codecs such as DVCPRO which is a pretyt standard codec yes?
I guess the 7200rpm drive now is def the way to go - i was getting one anyway
so does it matter that the computer drive speed is 5400rpm when working of a 7200 rpm firewire 800port drive? I assume that if all the media is on the 7200rpm the computer internal drive would only be running the program, which would be more then enough do you agree?
Its looks as if FCP 6 has some way of recognising the computer drive speed for accessing the media and determining whether it is fast enough or not, if not, wont even try to attempt to play in RT resulting in the red render line, no matter if I have my sequences settings all set up correctly and matching. This is something that I am unclear about in the software.

  • Video Playback Fullscreen (missing)

I recently took my iMac in to have the logic board replaced, which was quick and painless, by the way, but when I got back to work on it, the Command-F12 -Fullscreen preview wouldn't work. Under the Preferences menu, the video preview option comes up (missing). Any Ideas? thanks!

Don't know what's going on there...works here with two Cinema Displays.
I've got Apple FireWire NTSC (mirror on desktop-checked) in my A/V devices tab of Audio/Video Settings...(nothing selected in 'Different Output for Edit to Tape/Print to Video, because I'm not using that function in this workflow)
I can then just go to View/Video Playback/Fullscreen from the main menu and it goes right out to my second display.
Maybe has something to do with your Mac System Monitor preferences.?.?...not sure.

  • TV@ Plus, what video capture settings to use?

I have a TV@ Plus and am unsure what video capture settings to use. I've had it for several months and solved my audio problems and need to know what Video Input Format, Capture Format (Profile), Capture - Size, Quality, Bit Rate and Audio Format settings to use. Should I use the same settings for all input sources or do I use different settings for CATV and S-video inputs? It seems to be OK with my current settings as far as capture and playback goes, I'm OK on the hardware part but with tech detatails I'm a bit  .
I will be using it to capture from CATV, DVD and VCR input sources for later recording to DVD's. I use a GoDVD! CT-2 connected to the S-video input for recording Macrovision protected media to the HDD.
My computer sound is monitor mounted stereo speakers.
Thanks in advance for any helpful replies.

I already had transferred and converted some of my old VHS and VCD movie collections into DVDs (using Composite Input).
The higher the bit rate the better quality video output you will have - but bigger file size.
    To give you an example:
A 2 hour video captured on MPEG set at 4000/bps will be translated it to 3.58GB. More than enough to be written on a 4.7 DVD.
For audio bit rates, you can choose from 128/bps to 224/bps. As for me I set it to 224/bps. Again the bigger bit rates the better audio output. And don't forget to slide up the audio record level to 100%. That will give you a better and clearer recorded audio output.

  • Premiere Elements 12: What happened to Playback Settings?

Cep has posted a thread today asking where are the "Playback Settings" choices that were present in Premiere Elements 11 in two places
    a. Edit Menu/Project Settings/General as a Playback Settings button
    and
    b. The Playback Settings dialog that appeared after right clicking the Edit Mode monitor and selecting Playback Settings.
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/5779204#5779204
The Playback Settings button is gone completely from the Project Settings location; whereas, the Playback Settings choice in the monitor area is still there but greyed out.
I have confirmed Cep's results with Premiere Elements 12 on Windows 7 64 bit as well as Windows 8 64 bit (the operating system that Cep is using).
We both have Premiere Elements 11 and Playback Settings in both locations cited are still alive and well there.
Does anyone from Adobe or elsewhere have an explanation for this. I have not found any related information in the Premiere Elements 12 Help PDF and have explored and experimented with alternate locations for Playback Settings in version 12. No luck.
Looking forward to follow up on this.  What am I overlooking in the search for Playback Settings?
    Thanks.

Add On...As one point of reference, please note Adobe's write up on "Preview on a TV Monitor"
    https://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-elements/using/previewing-movies.html

    Update....
No word from Adobe who would know for sure, but...
On a lead from a Premiere Pro CS6 thread that run into missing  Playback Settings or grayed out Playback Settings in Premiere Pro CS6 version as well, we tried creating the keyboard shortcut Alt+Shift+P to access a possibily hidden "Playback Settings", no success. (See Premiere Elements 12 Windows 7 or 8 64 bit, Edit Menu/Keyboard Customization/Windows/Monitor Window/Playback Settings.)
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/4412697
At this point, the Playback Settings button in preferences and the Playback Settings choice in the monitor as we knew them in Premiere Elements 11 appear to be gone.
    More later.

  • CS5 Playback Settings grayed out and no longer can set playback on external monitor.

I like to view my projects while editing on an external monitor but the Playback Settings are grayed out. I've done all my prior projects with external monitor display enabled with no problems and can go back to a prior projects completed and view them using an external playback monitor.  For some reason, the Playback Settings on my latest project are grayed out and I'm not able to set Desktop Video Display During Playback.
The last project worked on was about 3 months ago. Last week, I started working on two new projects and noticed that I wasn't able to set playback to my external monitor. All my devices are hooked up and I can review older projects on the external monitor but can't set two new projects to use display on the external monitor.
    Anyone have any ideas?
    Problem solved. My fault.
The Sequence Preset Settings selected must support the device the external monitor is connected to. In my case, IEEE 1394 firewire. I corrected the new project to the correct Sequence Settings and can now view playback on the external monitor.

"The Desktop Video 9.7.5 software update allows users to take advantage of many new features in the Adobe Creative Cloud desktop applications such as powerful new editing timelines and shortcuts and audio mixing with Adobe Premiere Pro® CC and new creative and visual effects tools with Adobe After Effects® CC."
So everything should be covered on that front. And as I listed, I was getting playback out of AE CC, so I feel it is solely an issue in Premiere. That was worth checking out though since CC is so new. Thanks for replying.

  • Multiclip playback settings

I've run into a new issue (for me anyway) with multiclip editing. I'm working with a two-angle multiclip, editing in real time, and everything has been working fine. I walked away from the project, came back later, and suddenly the multiclip angles aren't showing up in the viewer anymore. It only displays the active angle during playback, then shows the multiclip angles when play is paused, or during scrubbing. To my knowledge, I didn't change any settings. Multiclip playback is enabled in the timeline, Playhead sync is set to open...What am I missing?

All I can suggest is that you close the project, relaunch FCP, and go through the multi setup one more time, step by step.

  • Best flash movie settings for HDTV playback

I am creating a flash video for a trade show for my company
for the first time, and we are bringing a large HDTV to play to
movie. Do I need specific settings in flash in order for it play
corectly on a large HDTV? I have never before created a DVD using

size an settings for optimun playback?

Getting your stuff out on TV or DVD or whatever means you need to experiment and see what works best.
Make misstakes, encounter unforseen issues, these are the best learning school.
Oh and get yourselve some dvd-rw´s for testing.
For the HDwmv 720P wil do just fine (i am not sure Pro2 can do this). I use them to. I have my pc hooked up to a HD projector via hdmi. Looks great on a big screen.
