  • Vertical red line on my iMac computer screen.

I have a vertical red line on my 2009 21.5 inch all-in-one iMac. I can see it on the desktop and it's also there regardless of what window or application I'm running. I'm not sure what caused it but I sure would like to know if I can get rid of it. Thanks!

Having read some related discussions after I posted (my apologies), it appears there's no solution but that I need a new display. Can I get a ballpark estimate on the cost please? BTW, the line goes only about 3/4 of the distance from the bottom of the screen to the top of the screen.

  • Vertical red lines

Vertical red lines appear when I pick "show frame edges." However, when I "hide frame edges," black vertical lines remain. What are these lines and how do I get rid of them? Sorry, I'm very new at this!

Show edges will show you the frame edges, the colour of the edges are referenced to the colour of the layer (window>layers)
In this case you most likely have the frame on Layer 2, as Red is the Default colour for that Layer. Show edges, makes it handy to locate frames edges, and the layers helps to distinguish what layer something is on.
For example, someone might prefer to put all their Text Frames on Layer 2, and they want to resize that text frame but it's surrounded by a bunch of other frames. By turning on Show Edges the user can easily identify which Frame they wish to grab. If all the frames were on the same layer, it could be confusing.
of course there are other reasons to use layers the above is just a makey-uppy scenario
And the black edge, is most likely due to the Frame having a Stroke colour. You can remove this by going to the Tool Panel on the left, there are two squares at the base of this panel, the one higher up is the Fill and the one below is the stroke.
Select the Stroke Proxy and then change the fill to None (the little square with red line running through it)

I have a vertical red line on my screen - what's causing this?

    Have you tried this?
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

  • I have vertical colored lines appearing on the Mini Ipad screen

I have vertical colored lines appearing on the Mini Ipad screen

I had the same problem with my first gen ipad mini. The solution was not  to do a hard reset, but instead to push the sleep/off button until the  red slider appeared, then slide to OFF. Wait a few seconds then push the  sleep/home button until the Apple logo appeared. The lines were gone.  I  called Apple Support and they wanted $19 to troubleshoot over the phone  and $99-$199 to bring to the nearest Apple store. This may not be a  permanent fix, but it resolved the issue. I purchased my ipad mini from a  local electronics store in May of this year. Believing it to be new and  still under warranty I called the AppleCare store and discovered that  it had "previously" been purchased in November a year ago and was no  longer in warranty. As stated, I've had the device since May and it has  worked wonderfully until today when I turned it on and it had colored  vertical lines displayed on the screen. The lines would change color at  times and even became a solid black stripe. The strange thing was that  when taking a screen shot the lines were not noticeable and didn't show  up on the picture. The Customer Care support tech told me to search  other display issues. On one of the support threads it had something to  do with videos/video apps and that is where I saw to do the SLIDER OFF.  It worked even when the hard RESET had not.

    Hello irohitgupta,
Thank you for posting on the HP Forums!
I understand your computer display is experiencing issues with a red line. I will do my best to assist you! To troubleshoot the issue, please refer to the relevant sections of this HP document: Display Quality Issues
The sections I would like you to refer to are "several colored vertical lines in the display", "screen is discolored" and "general troubleshooting tips for display quality issues". Please try all of the troubleshooting and let me know the results.
If the issue persists, please provide the following information:
    1. The computer's model number. If you require assistance locating this information, please reference this website: Guide to finding your notebook product number
    2. The computer's operating system. If you require assistance locating this information, please reference this website to determine your Windows operating system.
    3. Does this occur on certain programs, or all programs?
    4. Have you installed any new software or drivers on this computer, before the issue appeared?
Additionally, if the issue just began occurring, I would perform a system restore. I want you to bring the computer back to the earliest restore point possible, in an attempt to dodge whatever caused the issue. Here is a document on how to perform a System Restore: System Restore

  • Satellite M65-S9063 - Vertical white lines appearing down the screen!

    Hi all - any ideas...
Model M65-S9063 Approximately 3 weeks ago a vertical white line appeared down the screen, it's around a mil thick.
Then yesterday a second one has appeared, slightly thinner this time. They're always there even after a reboot! It doesn't look as though any video is being displayed as they're always white. I was wondering graphics card perhaps? Or maybe the LCD itself?
    Anyone seen this before??
    Many thanks,

    Hi!
You can simply determine the reason of this issue. Connect an external monitor the notebook and see what happens.
If you can notice the same error on the external screen, its a problem of the graphic card or display driver. If you dont have this issue on the external screen, you should go to an authorized service provider for exchanging the internal screen.
If you use a non Toshiba display driver you should remove it and test it with original Toshiba drivers.
I hope I could help you a little bit.
    Bye

Where are you importing from – a camera or computer? If you are optimizing at import, make sure the background processes are completed. (Command-9)

  • Red line appearing along one border of a graphic (from Word)

Using: Acrobat 6.0 Professional (yes, I know it is downrev).
Source: MS Word 2003 for Windows.
Problem: A red line appears in the PDF that looks to be the invisible (right hand) border of a graphic that looks fine in Word. This occurs only on one of many graphics. We have tried converting the original image to PNG, TIFF and JPEG and all formats produce the same result. We have tried both printing to PDF and using the Distiller button that is in the Word interface. The problem persists.
Has anyone else ever seen this?

Just to clarify, in this particular case I get a white box, not gray. But I imagine it is the same thing -- an empty box. Also, I would like to mention at the top that I greatly appreciate your input and explanation, Aandi. Thank you. I have more questions, though!

Out of curiosity, which format does the EPS preview supply to Word? Word does understand TIFF, JPG, PNG, WMF and BMP (among others). You say that Word "ignores" this, but that sounds intentional. Rather, it is a format that Word doesn't understand or doesn't have the routine necessary to decode and display the preview. Any clue why? Not critical, but I'd like to understand the mechanics a bit more.
    > (b) EPS files often start with a large number

A preamble, then. Some information embedded at the head of each EPS file?
    > These aren't drawing instructions, but definitions.
Definitions that define the parameters of the typeface, font, line weight etc. needed to create the drawing?
    > After that, sometimes hundreds of KB, the drawing starts.
That is a LOT of instructions. A typical page of ASCII text takes up approximately 4KB of space. 1,275KB seems like an awful lot of instructions for a graph with only 20 words or so and perhaps 100 lines for cartesian coordinates. A "bitmapped" file of the same drawing takes up only a fraction of that, even uncompressed (TIFF or BMP for example, with JPG or PNG taking up far less than that, perhaps only 15 to 35KB in this case).
    > When a PDF is made you are left with nothing
    > but the drawing instructions.
I'm not arguing, just failing to understand the mechanics. Of course, I had two gigantic books on PostScript on my desk ten years ago and I never did read most of them...
Again, I thank you for your time and discussion, Aandi. Always helpful as usual, though I'm not sure I'd be comfortable trying to convey your description of the EPS-to-PDF process to others. If they asked a question, I'd be stuck!

  • My early 2011 MBP 17 started showing a thin vertical red line one inch from the left edge of the screen. Does anyone know what causes this problem?

Does anyone know what causes a thin vertical red line on the display?

There is a problem with the display or the connection to the display.  Take it to an Apple store genius bar for a definitive diagnosis.  The diagnosis will be free, any repairs will not be free.
    Ciao.

  • Vertical red line on display

My iMac G5 is two years old and now have a thin vertical red line on the screen.
    Is it a hardware problem?

It may be that youre having the screen problem described in those posts:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=962994&tstart=0
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=974094&tstart=0
If it is this, the line would normally multiply... if you have Applecare plan send it for repair I would say; without applecare the european law gives you 2 years warranty.
    Good luck
