A Very Random Problem

Not sure how to discribe this issue, other than just plain odd.
About a month ago the system froze when I awaked the laptop from sleep. After forcing a restart of the computer, All the preferences for all Apps where deleted and would not save after reseting them, and after reinstalling verious apps. FInally I broke down, and Formated the HD, and installed a band new copy of OS 10.4.
Fast forward a few months to today. Got home, Opened the laptop and nothing happend. It was acting like the battery was completly dead. SOmehow I got the system restarted. Once I got to the Desktop all of the settings where reverted to like they where at the first boot up after OS install. All Safari bookmarks are gone. All finder settings where back to orignal. All the Apps on the dock are gone (though still install, and with all the preferencs are still intact... so far that i have found... )
I have ran the disk utility and it found a problem with something on the hard drive, ( dont remember the error offhand, but i remember it was not a physical error, and it corrected it... ) so maybe that may have been the whole problem all the time... ive run the hardware cd and it didn't find any errors... offhand the only thing i have not considered is the battery itself. would the battery if it was suffering from battery memory cause errors like this?

Well today was a good day for the system, everything has remained from the day before. Ran a bunch of maintance programs, ran disk utilite quite a few times, premissions look good, ran the pre-bindings again, cleared the system cache,and idd many shutdowns and restarts over the course of all the tests I ran.
I am begining to go back to the assumption that this is a Battery Issue. Maybe a battery memory issue, that the system sees suddenly no power at all and frezees and locks up before it can (assuming still) save the preference files that it normaly does on a system halt or shutdown... I havent been very good on training this battery, I dont think ive even done a full discharge in over a year... but when this problem happend the first time, it was right after I had let the battery go down to the warning message, pluged it back up, and put the computer to sleep while recharging.
Or I could just be reaching for a simple solution to a more complex issue...
Any guides or other ideas out there are appreicated.. If not.. well, it is about time to start saving up for a new model... it has been a good two years since ive had any serious problems with a computer, and this is the first real problem I have ever had with a Mac.
Any other ideas. My current line of thinking is time for a new battery...

Very Strange Problems

I have been fighting with this board for about a week and I just don't know what to do. My original plan was to take my two 80GB Western Digital PATA hard drives and put them in a RAID-0 array. This was the main reason for the purchase of this board.
First Install
I got the system up and going on Windows XP MCE 2005 on the RAID-0 array. From there I installed the newest NFORCE drivers, following with the rest of the device drivers. I installed Unreal Tournament 2004(patched) which proceeded to crash the system every time I shut the game down. Every time it crashed like that the RAID array would not be detected with a soft boot. I chalked that up to some issue with the game, and continued to install and run other games and apps successfully. Then came the MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION blue screens, at that point I decided to hop on the forums (here) and check out what was going on.
Second Install
After reading many posts I decided it was a good idea to just start over without the NVIDIA IDE drivers. From what I read RAID will not work without the drivers which resulted in me taking apart the array. I left both drives in and installed XP MCE 2005 for the second time. Unreal Tournament 2004 still crashes after the program is shut down and now the system seems to hang on the boot from CD-ROM until a cold boot is performed. I have not seen a BSOD yet on the second install and will be testing it tonight. It was a very random problem with the first, so it may be hard to reproduce.
Some odd things other odd things I have not been able to figure out:
One of the CD-ROMs disappeared for no apparent reason in the first install. After a cold boot it came back.
The MSI Core Center utility does not display system temp nor does it report the NB temp. I have not been able to find anything about if this is normal or not.
Some general info for anyone who has ideas:
IDE-0 Master: 80GB Western Digital Special Edition
IDE-0 Slave: 80GB Western Digital Special Edition
IDE-1 Master: LiteOn 16x DVD-ROM
IDE-1 Slave: Sony 8x Dual Layer DVD+/-RW
The memory is in DIM slots 1 and 2
It just seems that there are some very odd things going on. Any ideas as to why this thing keeps hanging on the IDE devices after crashing?

Supershanks, I think you hit the nail on the head there. I exited UT2k4 about 7 or 8 times with out crashing after I removed one of the optical drives. Do you think there is any chance of getting RAID working with my PATA drives?

Very Simple Problem-- Need help in method selection process

It's difficult to explain the background of the program I am making-- but I am stuck at a very simple problem, that I can only solve with a very long block of if statements:
I have 3 possible numbers-- 1, 2, or 3.
Imagine two numbers are already taken-- say 1 and 2. I want a variable to set itself to the number that's not taken (3).
So, again: If two numbers were taken say 2 or 3-- I want the variable to be sent to the other one that isn't taken-- 1.

Actually, I'll just tell you the context of the program-- here is what I have so far:
This program is meant to simulate Monty Hall Problem:

The program sets up an array of three possible values. Each one of those values represents a door with either a goat or a car behind it. It then randomly sets one of those values to 1 (in order to represent a car as per the Monty Hall problem), and 0's represent goats.
The user, which is simulated by the program (does not involve actual interaction), chooses a door initially.
The game show hosts then reveals a door that is not the users initial choice, but IS a goat ( an array value of 0).
For example if the array was [0][0][1]
The user could pick door one (array position 0). Which is a goat.
The game show host then reveals a goat that is not the users choice-- which would be array position 1.
After the game show host reveals the goat-- I want the user to always switch his decision to the only other remaining door that was not his first choice.
Then I wanted the computer to test to see if his final choice is the one with a car. And to tally up the amount of times he got it right.

N8 / Belle / Car BT Audio - random problem with au...

I updated my N8 to Belle when it was first released. Ever since, I've been experiencing random problems with audio volume and how it is being output from the phone.
I have paired my N8 with my car (2012 Subaru Legacy) which allows me to make phone calls via the car and stream music to the car via BT from the N8. Everything works fine most of the time, but there are some anomalies.
For example: In the morning on way to work, I used Music Player to listen to songs in the car. Later on during lunch break, I made two phone calls from the car.
After work, I turned on Music Player and started listening to songs, but realized that the audio is being played from N8's loudspeaker, and not the car speakers, even though the phone was paired with car BT.
I restarted the application but nothing changed. I then turned-off BT on phone, turned it on again, and this time the audio was still output via the loudspeaker, but I could now see the song details on the car stereo display and skip to next song using car controls.
Another example: I've also noticed that sometimes after using BT Audio in car, when I later play songs, the volume coming from N8's loudspeaker is maybe at 20% of what it should be and the volume buttons have to control over it. It seems almost as if the phone still thinks it is connected to car and is letting the car stereo do the amplification.
I tried different settings, but I can't pinpoint any specific cause of this behavior.
Has anyone experienced the same? Solutions?

For the song details to appear on the screen of car stereo you have to make sure your .MP3s have the ID3 info stored in them. You can do that with programs like Winamp/MediaMonkey/others. But I found that only works in my car when it wants to; it is never consistent, and most of the time it doesn't work. I blame the phone software for that.
As far as sound quality with my BT Audio I couldn't ask for better. It is very clear. I have most of my MP3s encoded at 192Kbps; I found the lower rates not to be very clear. I have not tested FM Transmitter in the Subaru (because BT works so good), but in my previous car it did not work well at all. It would only work in one spot (under dash in the foot area) and even then it wasn't very clear.

Google, Yahoo, and very random websites will not open

Google.com will not open, yahoo will not open and anything google- or yahoo-related will not open (including their search engines, which is killing me) as well as very random websites. Other websites open immediately. This is happening exactly the same on both Firefox and Safari.
Mac OS 10.6.8. The other iMac in the house (OS 10.7.5) is working fine as well as our Macbook, iPad, and three iPhones. I believe the problem started after we changed Verizon modems and wi-fi networks, but I cannot be sure, and I don't understand why the other devices/machines would not also be effected. There is no spyware that I know of installed on this problem machine. When I do a repair verification on the Utility Disk I get a lot of messages that read in different variations of the following: Warning:SUID file"System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contens/MacOs/Ar dAgent" has been modified and will not be repaired.

It is the same with the other accounts on the machine, but not with any other Mac device in my house, including another iMac. I'm going to reword the question more clearly below, so that maybe others will have a solution. Thank you very much for your effort, Old Toad.

Random problem with this forum page loading

All I see is the Category headings (no latest posts) and I'm NOT automatically signed in. When I attempt to sign in, I then go the the "new user" data page. After signing in, I get very restrictive access to the forum.
When I sign in with Firefox, everything is normal. Yesterday when I had this problem, I erases the cookies from Safari and everything returned to normal. I hate to have to erase my cookies everyday to get access here as I prefer to use Safari.
Is this happening to anyone else?

Why is iTunes very randomly showing items as played

Since the 11.0 patch I have noticed and it's quite annoying, that iTunes is very randomly showing songs, TV shows and movies as having been played, but ironcally not watched. That part is true as I haven't watched the episodes yet, or listened to the songs.
For example last night at some point all of my iTunes extras all of a sudden show that they have been played... I don't think I have watched one of them.
This seems to be a major bug that needs to be addressed.

Also having this problem at the moment. Waiting for a fix.
Edit: Working now... for now.

Random problem downloading files

I'm having a random problem downloading files from various web sites. I click the file to download it and instead of getting the save file box with the file name I'll get something like "attachment.php". It always seems to be php files.
Clicking the file numerous times to download it will eventually download but it's very frustrating.
I've been through all the trouble shooting guides and suggestions. Nothing made any difference. I've turn off add-ons, virus scanners etc to no avail.
For instance, this is the last download I tried (click the download button):

I got "download.php" which isn't just the zip file with a different name. It's actually different.
Doing it a few times I eventually got the zip file.
It seems to happen on any web site. The common theme is that this ".php" is involved.
Is this a bug? Any ideas?

I have a very big problem with my mac book pro. It continously looses the wifire connection. This happens every 5-10 minutes and is getting to be a very big irritation. I have tested my wifiresignal

First you should check on another Wifi to see if it's your Lion machine.
If it only occurs on your Wifi, then perhaps you have local interference and need to set the router on another channel far from others.
You can install a free program called KisMAC that you set your Driver Preferences to Apple Airport Extreme Passive Mode, enter your Admin password and monitor your local Wifi signals, see if you cna pin point the cause of your interference or meddler.
If your not running WPA2 with AES and a 12 plus random character/letter/number password for both Admin and Internet access use only then you should seriously consider doing so.

Very strange problem / Perpetual command key

I've been using OS X since its inception, and have never had this problem before.
Starting yesterday, I noticed a very strange problem that was happening randomly. When I clicked on an app in the dock, it would just reveal the app to me in Finder rather than opening it. Other problems including multiple selections when single-clicking on items with my mouse, and not being able to type. After some fidgeting, I realized that my iMac is acting like I'm always holding down the command (apple) key. If I have a window open, for instance, pressing the H (just by itself) key will hide the window. Pressing Q will quit whatever is active.
I shut down, restarted, plugged in a different keyboard, used a different mouse, unplugged all my periphs, deleted all haxies and their attached files, and it still happened. I unplugged my 2nd monitor, and that seemed to fix it after another restart... but then I plugged in my 2nd monitor again and restarted, and now everything is fine. It's just happening randomly. I'm afraid to restart my Mac now. This is really bizarre!!!

If it's any help, it started right after the following:
When booted to Vista one night, I noticed ghosting on my nice new iMac screen which kinda irked me. I could see the menubar with the Spotlight menu icon burned into the screen.
So when I got back into OS X I looked for a menubar hider. I tried Menushade and Menufela, both of which are quite old... probably before any mention of an Intel switch had ever occurred.
But now I had a problem... no clock. So I went ahead and downloaded Yahoo! Widget Engine (aka Konfabulator). I know, I know... what a crazy workaround just to hide the menubar (this is why it would be GREAT if Apple would build in its own menubar hider option!)
Anyway, this stuff started happening, so I deleted all of those apps (Menufela, Menushade, and Yahoo Widget Engine) with AppZapper (a great little app).
Ugh... this is what you get for experimenting with homegrown apps, I guess.
Anyway, hope that helps.

Apple Banned me, because of a very weird problem with my "Factory Unlocked"

Hi Everybody! Im having a very weird problem with my unlocked iphone 4.
First of all, i would like to apologize because of my english, is not very good. My native language is Spanish.
Well.. Im from Mexico, and here we can buy the iphone Unlocked on the Apple Online Store.
Here's my problem. Apple has exchanged my iphone 3 times.
I returned the iphone the first time because the screen was totally yellowish, other than that everything was working great!, that was by the end of September.
On October 20th, i recieved my second iphone, and then a bigger problem started .
Before i continue, let me give you this information: here in Mexico we have basically 3 cell phone companies
1.- Telcel
2.- Movistar
3.- Unefon
OK, now on october 20th, i recieved my second iphone, and then procced to activate via itunes using my UNEFON sim card (microsim).
And every time i tried to activate it, only got this message onscreen:

I though something was wrong with my brand new factory unlocked iphone 4.
I have 4 more simcards from my brothers (they all had iphone 4 too)
I tried telcel sim card, and i could activate my iphone. Then i insterted the Movistar microsim, and it worked too!! But then when i put the Unefon sim, the itunes logo inmediatly appears on the screen asking to activate on itunes, and when i tried that, the only response i got was the image above saying " The Simcard inserted on this iphone does not appear to be supported"
Weird thing here is, that, when i put my Unefon sim card on my brothers iphone 4, it worked great! on all of them, internet 3g, phone, wireless , evrything!
I called apple support, and they exchange the iphone for another one.
I recieved the third iphone on October 29. Last friday. and guess what? SAME PROBLEM! different serial number, same week production (week 42) but exactly the same message on itunes.
Very, very frustrated, i called apple again, and after 1 hour with thechnical support, they told me " We are sorry, but we can only offer you, your money back, NO MORE EXCHANGES FOR YOU"
I said why?... i dont want my money back! i want an UNLOCKED iphone!, but they refuse to give me another iphone.
When i asked techincal support, why my unefon sim card worked great on all three of my brothers iphone but not on mine, he just told me, "I really dont know, i guess they just got lucky" ****, this answer put all my trust i had on apple products for years, right on the garbage.
Since they refused to give me another iphone, i accepted my money back, and inmediatly after i finished the call, i asked my brother to buy me one more time an iphone 4 using his name, and his credit card. Now i have to wait until November 8-12 to recieve my new iphone, hoping this time i get a REAL UNLOCKED iphone, and not a partially unlocked iphone.
btw. i even went to Unefon costumer service and bought a new prepiad line, with a new microsim, just to be 100% sure that this problem is not because of the sim. And again didnt worked on my iphone, but it worked on any of my brothers iphone4.

What do you suggest me? any info would be really aprecciated
FYI i also restore 4 times the last iphone and nothing seemed to work, i use 3 different computers, Macbook Pro, iMac, and an Hp with Windows 7, and the same message on all three computers.
Wierd thing also, one of my brothers bougth an iphone 4 this last week too, but he bought the 16Gb not the 32Gb. His iphone production week is 42 also! and when i put my Unefon sim in his iphone works great!
I dont know what else i can do, I just need to have faith that my new iphone coming this november will be real unlocked, but what if i'll recieve an iphone and then the same problem?? time for android? just kidding really guys, what can i do? anyone with similar problem like me? i dont wanna use Telcel or Movistar, i wanna use Unefon, and thats why i bought an Unlocked iphone
btw: jailbreak is not a solution for me, because i always like to use legal software on all my apple products, and because of the warranty.

According to http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1937, there are two official carriers in Mexico (Movistar and Telcel) and neither carrier offers an unlocked phone.

TS1559 My iPhone 3GS will not now join wifi. This is a very recent problem and I have tried everything so hope someone can help. I go Settings then Wifii, it picks up network no problem but then does not download IP Address.

A very strange problem in netbeans

i debug a project in netbeans,a a very strange problem happens.
a member variable was different between wtk20 and wtk22.and the variable was changed many places so it's hard to trace!
but there hasn't the problem when i debug project in jbuilderx!

My problem is, even I've written the SQL in the correct syntax, in my java code, it just look like this
