A Way to Create Custom Theme Elements

While probably not Apple-recommended, I’ve noticed I can change certain aspects of a given theme for iPhoto Calendars (and presumably for iPhoto Books as well). First I navigate in the Finder to:
HD / Library / App Support / iPhoto / Themes / Shared / Travel (or whichever theme I want to customize) / Art Elements (or Backgrounds or Frames)
I then make a safety copy of that folder (naming it “Art Elements - ORIGINALS” for example), and then go into the main “Art Elements” folder, pick a .png file, open same in Photoshop, change the color (or whatever else I’d like to make different), and re-save using the same file name.
With the default version of the file still safely stored in that back-up “ORIGINALS” folder I created earlier, I now switch back to iPhoto, and when I select the now-modified Theme in question (or re-select it so it loads again), I now see (for example) my Travel Theme top pages with a blue background instead of the default yellow. Since the file name and the path to it look exactly the same to iPhoto, the app is none the wiser. And I can easily revert back to iPhoto’s default for that theme by trashing the “Backgrounds” folder, and then simply renaming my “Backgrounds - ORIGINALS” back-up folder to its original name of “Backgrounds”.
As another test (again using the Travel Theme), I modified the scalloped edges of the post card frame -- cropping them straight across and thus making them more modern looking -- and also colorized the postcard itself to a pale blue monochrome. As described above, iPhoto simply displayed this new version of the postcard in all the appropriate layouts with no complaints.
The one thing I wasn’t able to do however was to change the size of a photo frame this way. Am I correct that iPhoto sizes those frames using information in the “plist” text files located elsewhere -- files I looked at in TextEdit but was too nervous (and too intimidated) to try modifying myself?
Anyway -- am hoping the workflow described earlier might be useful to someone looking to customize particular elements in a given Theme for a specific project.
My only real question is:
Are there any hidden “gotchas” in this technique I haven’t yet appreciated, and has anyone already used this technique (or something similar) to also customize the size/shape/orientation of an image frame?

Hello everyone!
I am just curious if any of you might know a way to create custom instrument/track icons in GarageBand (I show an example of what I mean below)? For instance, Let's say one of the guitar tracks I've recorded was done with a Flying V and I'd like to reflect that in the instrument icon. Is that possible? If so, I'd love to know how I know it's nothing mega-important, and doesn't affect my recordings in any way, but is a great visual cue as to what that track might contain. Apple has given us some great default choices but it would be nice if we could use some of our own PNG files for this purpose too!

The funny thing is I posted this question and got so busy with life in general that I had forgotten about it until just now when I fired up GarageBand LOL. Creating Custom Theme for Power View Clustered columns chart

Helllo...
Is it possible to create custom theme for displaying clustered columns chart on Power View?
Basically I am looking to create chart with specific colors for the bars? For e.g. for High - RED, Medium - Orange and Low - Yellow color. When I look at themes available in Excel 2013 I don't see this combination as such, so I was looking to create one
myself.
I tried to create a theme using video on youtube, but the theme which I created is not showing up in Power View mode in excel 2013.

In Power View, it has several default theme colors for us to apply to our workbook. Also, we can change the Font, Text Size and Background of the chart. However, it is not support to design a custom theme color.
You can refer to the following steps to change the theme colors:
1. On the POWER VIEW tab, in the Themes group, click Themes.
2. Under Built-in, click the theme that you want to use.

Trying to create custom theme but not able to find it.

I am using Oracle 10g Database Express and APEX 4.0 and am trying to create a custom theme based on an existing one.
I have created a theme_100 folder in the filesystem as a copy of theme_8 and have edited the css file & changed the colours of the images using Infraview graphics editor.
I then have uploaded them into the DB using the WebDav function and can see the files when I run http://localhost:8080/i/themes/theme_100/
However, within the application builder when I create an application and choose a theme, mine is not showing.
Can you help me with whatever steps I am missing?

The templates used by your new theme in apex(that you created when you copied) would still be referencing your old css path.
So update check the templates used in your new theme for the referred css files
<li>In Your new theme's page templates check for the directory path that point to the old theme and modify that
For example(I am using theme2 here)

Change the string in the CSS file path from theme_2 to theme_10 , assuming that it is in the same directory as the other themes. Else modify it appropriately.
Do this for all page templates(or atleast the ones you use).

Is there a way to create custom page numbering (ie 1, 2, 2, 3, 3, etc.)?

I have a document that needs special treatment for its page numbering. This is a two page spread that I need to have the same page number on facing pages. The page numbering would look like 1, 2, 2, 3, 3, 4, 4 and so on. I have looked through the forums and all the help documentation I can find, and the only thing remotely related is doing a print merge of two documents - but this doesn't solve my need to have the numbering scenario in the actual document. Is there a way to create a macro or script that I can add to the master pages that can calculate the correct page number? This is an Instructor's Guide that is well over 300 pages so I'm looking for some way to automate the process.

Just if I understood your need correctly... Automatic Page Number shows the number of the page, where center of its text frame lies. The actual number may be on other page. Please see attached screenshots:

Im looking to create circles or boxes that change color in relation to the picture in the slideshow. I am sure that I have seen it on a muse site before, but just can't figure how to get it done. Have you tried using:
Effect > Text > Numbers ?
You could also have found that answer by searching for "numbers" at the Community Help site. It's really a great resource in addition to the online help files. Try it out!

Best way to create custom reports

Good Afternoon,
I am completely new to UCCX 9 and Crystal reports, so double newbie. I have been attempting to create customs reports that will not be run by the Historical Reports. I've used the Historical Reporting Admin and Dev Guide along with the DB Schema pdfs, to no avail. Is there a better option? I've seen that the DB can be accessed via SQL applications. The reports that have been requested are rather complex (IMO),
Number of calls accepted and abandoned, with available (Ready and Not Ready) Agents per hour vs scheduledI've been able to create this with two different reports
Calls taken by Agent by hour and status through out the day including times spent in different Ready Codes, Talk times, hold times, etc.
Essentially, can any one guide me to a better resource or option? I appreciate the help. Thank you.

Alternatively, you can build your own - there's a number of free and commercial solutions available. Personally, I prefer BIRT.

I assume you mean in contacts you want to add a custom label, not print a label as FoxFifth suggested!
Todo this click edit on the contact, then click the name of the field you wish to rename (there should be a red circle with a minus beside it)
A list comes up and at the bottom you can click "Add Custom Label" and type in the name.
Please note this doesn't work with Exchange servers

Yes, aggravating. But it's not possible as far as as I know. Maybe a homebrew solution exists, but I have not gone down the homebrew route.

Hi Folks,
I have recently switched to Mac. Before this I was using Linux. For mail I used Thunderbird (TB) for many years, and then eventually switched to Evolution Mail (EM) for its smoother integration into Linux.
On both TB and EM I revolved my work flow around custom folder views. As new email came in I would label it (on EM, or tag it on TB). I have numerous inboxes (email accounts) so I would generally be starting out in a smart folder that displays all mail in each inbox. I would most of the time view that smart folder with a Custom View filter in place. The filter would simply display ONLY mail with NO tags/labels.
Once my filter inbox showed NO messages it meant I had labeled everything. I would them use other smart folders to display mail with certain labels AND NO "Completed" label. That way I could go to my "Reply ASAP" folder and see what needed my immediate attention. Each email I replied to I would then add the label COMPLETED and it would vanish from my view.
I explain the above in case someone has specific suggestions on how to achieve a similar workflow on Mail.
In short, what I am wondering is this:
- Is there a built in way to filter a folder on the spot (with a drop down list of predefined and custom Views) --- I have looked and so far did not find this feature
- Is there a way to do this with a script or add-on? I have looked at many and not found a suitable one yet.
I am appealing to the knowledge of those with more experience in Mail. It is new to me.
I am currently using TB on my Mac because it gives me the above feature. BUT it does not have the same degree of integration with the OS and other Mac specific apps that Mail has. Thus I am keen to stick with Mail.

In addition to above:
I have installed a trial of Mailtags. It certainly improves the tagging capability of Mail.
I have also looked at the Smart Mailboxes and Smart Mailbox Folders.
As far as I can tell, however, there is no option to set up a smart mailbox that ONLY shows message with NO LABEL or NO MAILTAG (as the case may be). I can display messages with particular TAGS but not NO tags.
Is there any way to add more options to the Smart Mailbox filter system?

Is there a way to create custom clientlibs that only apply to a specific app?

for example, i'd like to add some custom widgets specific to a custom application, say apps/mycustom1, but i don't want these custom widgets available for my other custom application, say apps/mycustom2. this is because i plan to have a www.mycustom1.com and www.mycustom2.com. from what i've read so far, you can add your own custom clientlib widget by adding to the categories "cq.widgets". but if i do this, my custom widget will show up for mycustom1 and mycustom2 apps.
on a somewhat related note, i've found that the following online doc: http://dev.day.com/docs/en/cq/current/developing/components/clientlibs.html, regarding overriding libraries in /libs, does not work. i've tried creating my own apps/cq/ui/widgets clientlib, but all it did was include my apps/cq/ui/widgets clientlib along with the libs/cq/ui/widgets clientlib. I have the clientlib set up the same way as the cq widgets clientlib and tried overriding the js.txt, but when loading my page, it pulls down both widgets.js in apps and libs. are the docs incorrect here?

I'm trying to do things "out of the box", which means i'm trying to reuse the existing clientlibs. this means i'm making use of wcm/core/components/init/init.jsp, which includes the "cq.wcm.edit" clientlib. i believe the easiest way for me to do this is for me to create a "custom.wcm.edit" category which will include my "mycustom1.widgets" along with "cq.widgets", but then this forces me to copy/paste the entire init.jsp into my apps folder. i was hoping for a better way than to have to copy the entire init.jsp just to change up the specific categories used for a specific app.
as for your question, i got down this path as i was trying to add my own custom placeholders to display in edit mode as i've created my own custom components. but with what i've read online, the way to do it is just to add to "cq.widgets" with my own widgets clientlibs, which would make it available to all apps in the system.

Is there a way to create customer smart controls?

I use Mainstage to play worship music in a few different church venues and love the flexibility that Mainstage brings. I'm using an external instrument, Omnisphere on my Akai MPK88. I have each channel mapped to sliders on my keyboard, which is great for Omnisphere, however, if I want to switch insturments, for example to the Hammond B3, I would like be able to use the new smart controls feature and be able to see the controls for this instrument. Is there a way to keep my sliders on screen for Omnisphere, but have them change when I am using a native patch? Right now, the controls just get greyed out and go dead. Thanks!

You can pick any Smartcontrol for any patch, but you can not create your own Smartcontrol from scratch.

Is There A Way To Create Custom Presets For Sharing/Exporting?

First-time iMovie users, long-time Mac enthusiast.
VERY impressed with how easy this wonderful application is to learn, but the inability to save custom presets exporting to Quicktime is puzzling.
iMovie6 does remember the settings I specified in "Expert Settings", but it'd be great to save it as "canned preset" that would show up w/all the other ones (Email, CD-Rom, Web, etc).
Is this just another feature I've yet to discover, or is it possible at all? Or is it the first roadblock I've encountered where extra ca$h is needed for another product?

I too was in search of the way to make my own themes.
I finally found as close as I could get by using the Property List Editor.
The best place to go to start down this route is the Creative mac website.
They have some great tutorials that show how get inside iDVD.
