? a way to keep photos small when posting online??

Hi-Im new obviously. Im wondering if there is anyway to edit my photos so they can remain one size & not be double clicked on at places like facebook & seen as a 5x7 or the standard large sz most seen there. I'd really like to know since I want to post a few things(photos) but really dont want tiny details in photo shown for privacy reasons. Any ideas? Please remember im newbie & dont know standard sizes-settings-pixels etc..  thank you very much! Ms. C

Use File>Save for Web in the Editor. Then go to the right side of the page where the pixel dimensions are shown and reduce one side as small as you want. (As long as you leave constrain proportions turned on, the image automatically resizes on both dimensions). Click Apply, then save as a JPEG or whatever. (Click Don't Save in the editor when it asks if you want to save changes to your original).
By using save for web you also remove the EXIF data (the information about your camera, etc), so that's more info they won't be able to get, too.

You do realise that wiping the disk means that everything on the disk is erased. Everything. Photos, music, emails, ...
So the first piece of advice is to make sure you have a back up of everything.
You need the OS disk to reintsall the operating system. You will use that disk first to erase the drive, then to reinstall the OS.
Here's the link for the US.  http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
As for MS Office, you will need the original disk that it came on to reinstall it.

  • How to keep photo order when opening default photo app?

First it concerns the default photo App: I have created an Album based on recent photos imported from the cloud, there are 125 photos in them, for some reason they are in the wrong order, i.e. by date. I know how to rearrange one photo at a time, but it's painfully slow to go through all 100s of them.
Second, there is the iPhoto App: I downloaded iPhoto app from the iWork suite, that came free for me, it gave me an option to sort photos by date, hooray!
BUT!! when I close iPhoto and reopen the default photo app, the photos were no longer sorted, it was the same order before the sort!
My question is, how on earth do I sort an album in iPhoto and to keep that order when I open the album through the default photo app or indeed any other app that uses the iOS albums such as facebook etc?

As far as i know, you can't, when using iphoto, the sort is only for iphoto, apps on ios do not have access to one anothers data, ever, you can transfer a file from one app to another app that supports the file format but then you have two independent copies of that file.

  • My iPad mini, can only access camera roll photos. When posting on facebook. I can not access shared photos from my apple devices.

problem with iPad mini and iPhone 5c and Facebook app. I can only access camera roll, when posting photos, I can not see shared photos. Which I could before the previous 3 updates. I did speak to Apple support but they said Facebook was behind. i think over 6 months later I still have the same problem!

Thank you. Do you have any idea about the 5c, which is only 2 weeks old. Before this I had an iPhone 4, and you could choose which collection you wanted to post from,
but my 5c is also only showing camera roll, pehich is rather annoying to say the least!

  • How Can I Keep Photo Data When Adding Photo To New Book?

All of my photos in IPhoto have dates and descriptions as part of the file names. When I transfer then to make a book, all of this data goes away. Is there any way I can keep this data as a description of the photo.

Where are you transferring the file to and how? As long as you use iPhoto the title and description remain associated with the photos. Are you referring to the title and having the title show on the book's page along with the photo? There is just one theme that displays the title: Folio
The only way to get the description to display is to change the title to what you put in the Information/Description field. That can be done automatically with the Applescript described in my post here: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5400478&#5400478

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: The new rebuild option in iPhoto 09 (v. 8.0.2), Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" makes this tip obsolete.

  • Is there a way to access photo information when viewing on iPhone?

Using iPhone 5S/ IOS 7.1.1.   In iPhoto I have edited my pictures with information (i.e., name of photo, description).  I would like to access (at least) the name of photo/file on my iPhone.  Any way to see the photo file name on phone?

I cannot believe this problem hasn't been rectified yet!
If I use the pre installed ringtone as an alarm and set it low so I don't jump out of my skin, then my call volume is too low the next day, so have to change it.
If I use a song as an alarm, I have the same problem, but its when I watch a video. I set it quiet, then jump out of my skin the next morning if I've left it tuned up after watching YouTube. Also works the other way if I've watched a video with the sound down, and forget to turn it back up, then I don't hear my alarm, which makes me late!
It could also do with an ascending volume option, so it starts nice and quiet to wake you gradually. My old phones from pre iPhone days had these features and they worked great.
Surely this isn't that much of an issue to sort out. Yet I've seen posts back as far as 2006 complaining about it.
Come on apple pull your finger out!

  • What is the best way to keep high res when saving "for web"

the files i'm saving for web so i can get them in jpg (or gif) format are coming out very pixelated.  this is when i print the image.
what is the best way to save for web an image and keep the resolution good.
using for a business card template.  avery template will let me attach images i want to the project.  to do this..  i "get file from computer" and it drops the image in but real small... then you are supposed to enlarge it onto your work however you want.  well when i enlarge this image file, it gets pixelated badly.  i'm thinking it's the way i'm saving it.  i do not adjust anything when i save.  maybe i should.  this is where i need guidance.
this is what avery template notes about the images i am allowed to use - When uploading the image, the maximum size allowed is 4 MB.  You can only upload JPG and PNG images either as RGB or CMYK.  so when you recommend things, can you please keep this in mind
    thank you for oyur time.

    Aida,
When you save with the default template using save for web it is generally a very low settings.
While in the save window you can define the pixel size of the image you want with quality as well as resolution too.
Refer to tv.adobe.com video save for web or Adobe help file for detailed instructions.

  • Trouble keeping photo size when dragging and dropping photo into new document on elements 12

When trying to place an image into a new document in photoshop elements 12, I select all-copy-paste the image (or even drag it) over to the new doc created.  However, when I do this - the image does not paste in at the same size.  It typically shrinks down in size.   Do I have to save the file, close out and then open the new doc and PLACE it in the document in order for it to keep size?  There must be a better way to do this.  Basically, how can I drag a photo that is 4x6 over to a new doc while keeping the size at 4x6.  Any help would be much appreciated.

Whenever you combine two images, the resolution (ppi) of the bottom image is the resolution for everything. So if you take an image that is, say, 72 ppi, and paste that into an image at 300 ppi, the pasted object will shrink a lot. If you paste a high-res image into a low res image, the pasted object will enlarge a lot. The best way to get consistent results is to make sure that both images are at the same resolution (image>resize>image size) before you start.

  • Keeping photos organized when making an album

I recently went on a family vacation, and every day we did something completely different. I am making an album with five distinct sections, and the number of photos that display over the album is beginning to get overwhelming. Is there a way to organize them into categories or folders but have them all in the same album when it's done?

Something like this as Larry mentioned:

  • Why are my photos smaller when I access the camera from the lock screen?

I have an iPhone 4s using IOS 5 and I have noticed that when I access my iPhone camera from the lock screen (by double clicking the home button) that the photos I take are only 640 x 480 pixels, but when I unlock the phone and click the Camera icon the photos 3264 x 2448 pixels.  I would pefer to always shoot the larger sized photos.  Is there a way to change this?

Are you travelling towards the object you are photographing at a spectacular speed?  If so, you may be experiencing the doppler effect!

  • Ways to keep correct dates when transferring between libraries?

Any tips on how to export between libraries and keep the correct dates with your photos?
I am currently using iPhoto 9. I recently tried to transfer photos from an older library (2002) to a new library.
With past versions of iPhoto, I would burn the "old" - i.e. 2002, library to a DVD, open the "new" library, mount the "old" library DVD and drag the photos from the DVD within iPhoto to copy them into the new library. In the past, when I have used this method, the "dates" that accompanied the photos would be preserved (exporting and importing, however, would cause this data to be lost).
Something is definitely wrong, as my dates on the imported photos range from the year 2000 (before I even owned a digital camera) to 2008 (possibly when I upgraded the 2002 library to iPhoto 8). The mounted library from the disk shows the correct dates, however. The dates only go "bad" on importing them to the new library.
Does anyone have a work-around for this problem? Thank you in advance!

Try using iPhoto Library Manager to move files/albums/events - including metadata - between Libraries.

  • HT4236 Is there a way to recover photos lost when phone is accidently restored?

I recently restored my Iphone by mistake. Is there a way to recover my lost photos?

If the photos were not imported by your computer and your iPhone's backup was not updated to include the photos prior to restoring the iPhone, the photos are gone unless you had Photo Stream enabled with your iCloud account settings on the iPhone and all photos in the Camera Roll were copied to your Photo Stream prior to the restore.
iTunes does not handle the import of photos/videos on the Camera Roll.

  • Why are my photos incompatible for posting online?

I attempted to post a photo to DavesGarden.com and received the message it was incompatible.  It needed to be jpeg. plus a large number of other extensions.  I do not know what the extension is for photos in my apple library or how to post them.
I apologize if this question is not clear.  I just do not know how to word the problem.
    Thank you for any help.

    Thank you for responding.
    The picture is 4000 x 3000, 4.5 MB, JPEG
I do not know if that is a large file or not - pretty new to photo.
Do I use the slider to adjust?  I did try that but it did not change the info.
The problem I am having is the extension, i.e., JPEG, etc.  However this picture is JPEG.  I do not understand?
When I attempted to get the picture, it would not even let me open the file because the extension was not correct?
I will appreciate whatever info you can provide.

  • LoadMovie working in Flash Player, but not when posted online

    I have built a website
utilizing Dreamweaver and Flash. This page:
    http://www.tonystubbs.com/print.html
has a link under "print" called "catalog". It is supposed to load a swf file when clicked. It works when I view it in Flash Player, but when I import it into Dreamweaver and post it, it isn't working.

It is likely an issue with file location/targeting since you appear to be loading the swf into the html page from a separate folder.  When you do that, any files that the swf file loads need to be targeted as if that swf is in the same folder as the html file.  So if your other swf is also in the images folder, then when you specify to load it in the Flash file you need to include the images folder in the path.
