A way to sync local contacts to CardDAV accounts?

Hi!
Is there a reliable way to enable full sync of local contacts (in Contacts.app) to sync with a CardDAV account (be iCloud, OwnCloud, Google or whatever)?
I have tried enabling Sync with Google Contacts, and, as many have reported already, that does not work very well. After a short time you/I start getting sync conflicts (900 contacts needs to be updated etc.). At that point you get lots of duplicates and stuff. You also loose phone number and other data.
So, forget that Google sync. It did work for a while, but hasn't been reliable for a long time.
If I could only have iCloud (or other CardDAV) contacts synced with the local Address Book, then I would be happy. Is there a way to do that?
(I guess it might be possible through remote services like Plaxo, if you let the iOS device handle iCloud sync.)
It should be pretty easy to sync locally on OS X?

The built-in help for Contacts has this to say:
Important: If you're syncing contacts with Google Contacts and you add an iCloud account, Google syncing is turned off. It’s recommended to keep it turned off while using the iCloud Contacts service.

  • Is there a way of syncing local contacts only when outlook has an exchange account in the profile

I have Outlook 2010 set up with both a Pop3 account and a Microsoft Exchange account in the same profile. I have local contacts and Calendar entries in Outlook. The pop account is set up as the default account. When I sync Calendars and Contacts, then the exchange entries get transferred to the iPhone, even though the iPhone has the exchange account set up on it (and therefore I get the contacts and appointments over the air) but does not sync the local contacts and appointments.
If I split the accounts into two profiles and set the profile with the pop account as the default profile then I get the local contacts, but having to swap between profiles is a pain.
    Can anybody help?

You don't need to access your e-mail account, just get into your Apple account and change the e-mail address. If you can't access your Apple account, then you have a bigger issue to contend with.

  • Best way to sync google contacts/calendar

Just bought iPad2, and am wondering the best way to sync my contacts and calendars from google to my MacBook and iPad (my mac and phone sync to google and need to add ipad). My MacBook doesn't have Lion so I'm guessing that I wouldn't be able to keep it updated via iCloud at this point? Is iTunes the best way to go until I update my Mac?
    Thanks!

    The methods do different things
Push notifications just tell you an Item has been updated and will give you the ItemId of that item. You then need to get that item and work out the changes
SyncFolderItems and Pull Notifications are very simular in that they provide a list of updates the underlying Sync mech is a little different Watermarks vs SyncState. In comparison to Push notifications these will consume more bandwidth and require more
    requests to the server.
    >Using Filter and FindItems
Would just require more requests to the server to do the same thing. However no matter the method you use it will still require you bind to the Item that is modified using GetItem to work out what's changed etc and all these method have challenges around
getting deleted items. The underlying code for Pull notifications and SyncFolderItems is petty simple my suggestion would be you write a test application yourself to see.
Saying which is better really depends on what your trying to achieve. Eg if need to make the most minimalistic number of requests to the server then push notifications would be best to track changes see
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/office/dn458791(v=exchg.150).aspx which lists the differences in bandwidth.
Other things you need to consider are throttling which maybe not a problem OnPremise but will be if you move into the cloud or Office365.

    Upgrade to 10.7.5. See:
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.

  • Is there any way to sync my contacts on my ipod touch to Microsoft Outlook?

Is there any way to sync my contacts on my ipod touch to microsoft outlook using the push service from Mobile Me? Or any other mode of transferring?

Sure. Install the latest version of iTunes on your PC, and just connect your iPod Touch to it, decline the prompt to autosync (the warning about losing your music), then go into the info tab, select sync contacts, and click apply. Your contacts will be transferred (both directions, i.e. the outlook contacts and your IPT contacts will be merged and the combined set will be present on both lists).
    Hope this helps...

  • HT1386 simple and easy way to sync my contacts from iPhone 3gs to Macbook Pro that both my partner and I use. Have tried with photos and and only 350 of 3,500 items have synced. Remember simple and easy, I'm still learning-slowly.

Simple and EASY way to sync contacts from 3gs iPhone to MacBook Pro. Partner and I both use macBook. I have tried and get a message that only 350 of 3,500 item have syncd- all photos. I'm still learning and am very afraid of doing something that will wipe out all info, contacts and photos. Entering this site, the account shows my partners name, but accepts my other information.

First of all, you should always save you photos on computer like any other digital camera.
Backup on iCloud or iTunes only backup your Camera Roll. The other photos should be already on the computer.
Note: Photos are not saved in iTunes, it's only a conduit between your iPhone and your photo managing software on computer.
    What computer do you have?

  • And the best way to sync ALL contacts is...?

I have a 5800, and I've just used Ovi sync for the first time and it only synched some of my contacts, is it to do with whether they are saved to the phone or the sim? I need to update my firmware and i'm just wondering if it's necessary to sync the sim contacts or if they'll still be there when the update is done?
if not, anyone know how to save all sim contacts to the phone so i can sync them?

Hi, if you go into contacts and select options , settings you should have the option to import contacts from sim to phone memory and to select memory in use to phone ( it's always advisable to use only one source to avoid multiple entries which can confuse the contact recognition on calls and messages)
Ovi is not backing the sim contacts up as the sim will not be affected by an update, but the phone memory will !
    Good Luck

  • Is there a way to sync from a mac or iphone(contacts) to mail accounts?

Is there any way to sync mail contacts from my mac to my mail accounts??? like google etc.
Or is there any way to sync my contacts from my i phone to mail accounts??like google etc.

You can also use a 4 finger up gesture. The app (or the Dock on the Home page) will lift revealing all open apps. You can then tap the app you want and go directly there.
This short video shows you how to use the gestures.

  • Local Contacts not showing in Contacts List

Local contacts list only displays two contacts, my own and an emergency contact after sync'ing my Samsung 10.1 tablet with Google.
    1.Local Contacts.
When l now open Contacts app, l am constantly presented with 'Setup/ Sync/ Import' contacts.
Yet all my local contacts are still available in the 'Groups' tab.
Through the Groups tab some days ago, l ended up on the full Contacts list, yet am unable to find it again, so the contacts are all there, the problem would seem to be with the App itself?
    2. Google Contacts
    a) When l attempt to 'Sync' with Google, a repeated 'Sync' error is given. I am assuming this is because there are none and all contacts are saved locally.
    b) Why is it not possible to sync Local Contacts with Google and thus have a separate backup.
What l have tried as suggested on 'Setup/ Sync' dialogue:
    1. Syncing and reimporting Local Contacts - This has resulted in multiple entries within 'Groups' tab yet not updated main list.
    2. Syncing with Google account. - Local contacts are not on Google account and as l said above 'Sync' error
    3. Import Contacts - Tried loading SD saved Local Contacts vcf file.
    Please advise.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Whilst there is little I can do regarding the syncing behaviour I may be able to resolve the first issue:
Main Menu > Contacts > Menu Button > Filter > Untick both options under the "Filter" Section > Ensure "All" is ticked in the "Local Contacts" Section under "Display Contacts" > Done.

  • How do I sync my contacts in ACT to my new iphone?

I have the new iphone and can't figure out how to sync my work contacts to my phone.  At work I use this contact management database called ACT! 2010.  It's a great software, but they want to charge a monthly fee to hook up to thier cloud.  I've tried this app called Companion Link when I had my Droid.  But it never worked very well.  It kept messing up my database by duplicating names.  Does anyone know of a good app or a way to sync my contacts?  I just don't want to be paying $150 a year to do it.  Thank you all.

    Hi Caudill,
Use iCloud to sync contacts between devices. Sign into the same Apple ID/iCloud account on both devices and turn Contacts to ON:
    Settings>iCloud

  • 9320 - how to sync gmail contacts only, not email

    Hi there,
I'm looking for a way to sync my Gmail contacts with my BB, but without having to sync my emails from that account as well.
The reason is that I use my BB for professional email only and want to keep my personal email out of it. The device is far from user friendly when you get several emails per day on both accounts. Besides, I already sync my personal email with another device, so I don't want to do the same work twice.
I'm also really happy with the way Google syncs my contacts, keeps them backed up, easily sorted, etc. As for my BB, my contacts are on the device and nowhere else, meaning they are easy to lose (as happened to me a couple of months ago when my device died and technical support couldn't bring it back to life and had to replace it). And I don't mind to have the contacts all mixed up, they're easy to find in both devices so it's fine.
Anyway, I hope anyone can help me.
    Best regards!

No need to export your address book to your computer as suggested above ...
If you have iOS 7, all you need to do is set up your Gmail account (Settings/ Mail, Contacts, Calendars) and your Google contacts will sync directly to your iPhone's Contacts app.  Simple, no fuss, and changes you make on either end are updated periodically through the day.
Note that you don't have to use the Mail app for your mail if you prefer to use the Gmail app, you can choose to just sync your Google contacts with the iOS setting above if you prefer.

  • Is there a way to view our contacts when offline o...

I am not at home, but I need a phone # off my contact list. Is there a way to view my contact from my account? Since our contact are on a server, you'd think that would be possable.... but then again, we're talking about skype here.... not much common sense in managment!
    Thanks!

Your contact list can only be accessed using Skype application installed on your computer/device.
However, if you Skype account is linked with Microsoft account, then you can login to Outlook.com on the web and tere you should alos be able to see your contact list.
