A way to test error pages?

Is there a way I can manually generate a "generic error" so that the system page for it comes up? I modified from the default and I want to make sure it loads properly.

Hi,
Not that I'm aware of as you'll need to trigger these errors within the site individually.
I'll leave this thread open in case anyone is aware of possible workaround suggestions.
Kind regards,

  • Error page not getting cleared

    I have a JSP that calls some java methods some of which might throw an exception. I have a very basic error page identified in the jsp and it seems to be getting called but not working properly. The problem is that the first jsp starts building the output for a page and when the error page gets called then the html from my error page gets appended to the html that was put there by the first jsp. Do I need to clear a buffer or something in my error page? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
    I've included the entire contents of my error page below. If I throw an exception very early in the JSP this works fine. I added the call to out.flush() recently and that hasn't helped.
    <%@ page isErrorPage = "true" %>
    <% out.flush(); %>
    <HTML>
    <HEAD>
    <title>Test Error Page</title>
    <LINK rel="stylesheet" href="mainstyle_01.css" type="text/css">
    </HEAD>
    <BODY>
    <h3>Error: <%= exception.getMessage() %> has been reported. </h3>
    </BODY>
    </HTML>

    Hi
    Actuauly the problem is probably because of a filled up buffer. A default JSP page have a buffer of 8kb if you write more HTML than that before you get your exception the buffer will have been flushed and the content sent to the caller before the error page is called. I think there are also some function calls that flush the buffer by default.
    For more information look at "<%@ page ...." syntax in the JSP docs and at the Buffer functions of the javax.servlet.ServletResponse Class.
    Hope this helps

  • Managing error page

    Hi all!
    Is there a way to manage error pages [ Error Page. You have encountered an unexpected error.  Please contact the System Administrator for assistance.] in OA, cause our customer need to have a page in native language and not in English?! This is a legislative problem in our country (Italy) so we have to provide for changing that text content.
    Furthermore is there a way to catch the exception and try to output a context sensitive message for all the users?? (for example --> "Error. You used an invalid datatype. The field must be filled with numbers.")
    Thx very much ;)
    Sorry but I'm not so confident with all the instruments of Oracle Applications and maybe someone has already met this kind of problems and can give me a help.
    Ciao
    Jacopo

    Hi,
    If you look at your coding you will be calling a seeded jsp file or xml file if there is any error occurs.
    We can have our own custom exception page, whenever there is an exception occured we can enroute the flow to that custom exception page. We can print the error message in that file..

  • I Always end up at an error page when I test my design!

    Greetings,
    Ladies and gentle men of the forum, does any one knows how I could fix this problem that I am having with the IIS server.
    When I enter http://localhost it will take me to the home page but when I open my web site, which I designed with Dreamweaver, and test the site to see how it will function I will end up at an error page showing message below the line.
    I also created site and testing server. Does any know how I could correct this problem so I could work safely? I am also using SQL server for database. If there any one have any idea on what I should do please contact me.
    The page cannot be found
    The page you are looking for might have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable.
    Please try the following:
    If you typed the page address in the Address bar, make sure that it is spelled correctly.
    Open the localhost home page, and then look for links to the information you want.

    Isn't http://localhost your on premises server?  I wonder if you've actually uploaded your site to the www.?  A local host would be your build database and where you upload from, no?  You should have a database on the internet at a secure server consisting of: Host; User ID; Password; Directory.  Then, you upload to that server and then it's just a matter of accessing and testing the site via your URL.  Otherwise, you can always test away by accessing the localhost database somewhere on your premises.  This is how I see it.  If you are getting that error message, it means the database has moved and Dream can't find it.  Bummer, because when you do find it you will have to re-establish your links ( I think ).

  • Error Page shown while runnning a Test page from Development environment

    Hi,
    I have set the development environment for JDeveloper with OA Extension.
    I completed the setup steps for "You are Customer,Consultant or Support Rep".
    I have created a new Database Connection for the DB server and obtained "Success" status on clicking "Test Connection" buton in the Dtabase Connection wizard.
    When I run the Test JSP(Tutorial.jpr),I get an error page.
    It shows following exception with a lengthy stack trace.
    oracle.apps.fnd.framework.OAException:
    Application: FND, Message Name: FND_GENERIC_MESSAGE. Tokens: MESSAGE = java.sql.SQLException: ORA-01003: no statement parsed
    A reply about solution for this issue would be of great help.
    Thanks,
    Gowtam

    FYI,
    Could not lookup message because there is no database connection
    Thanks

  • I updated an iPod touch, an iPad 2, and an iPhone 4 to iOS 6, and all of them now will not connect to WiFi. They all give this wierd 404 error page from Apple and insist that I need to login to the network. Bad job testing the software Apple.

    I updated an iPod touch, an iPad 2, and an iPhone 4 to iOS 6, and all of them now will not connect to WiFi. They all give this wierd 404 error page from Apple and insist that I need to login to the network. What's the fix? None of the recommended fixes work in any of these devices. Reset device, reset network, renew lease, etc. None of them work.

    Does the iPod work OK?
    Does it charge when connect to the computer?
    Does it appear in My Computer?
    Look at the dock connector on the iPod. Compare with the iPod that does work/connect.
    I suspect you have a 2G iPod. Those can only go to iOS 4.2.1
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1353#iPod_touch_late2009
    iPod touch (3rd generation)
    iPod touch (3rd generation) features a 3.5-inch (diagonal) widescreen multi-touch display and 32 GB or 64 GB flash drive. You can browse the web with Safari and watch YouTube videos with Wi-Fi. You can also search, preview, and buy songs from the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store on iPod touch.
    The iPod touch (3rd generation) can be distinguished from iPod touch (2nd generation) by looking at the back of the device. In the text below the engraving, look for the model number. iPod touch (2nd generation) is model A1288, and iPod touch (3rd generation) is model A1318.

  • Error-page tag not valid in global-web-application.xml ?

    Hi!
    From what I understand about the global-web-application.xml file in Oracle's documentation, the content of the web-app tag should be inherited to all web application as a web.xml content.
    One of the web.xml tags is error-page, which contains the page url for the standard return codes (404, 500, and so on).
    If I put the error-page on the web.xml inside a web application, it works as expected.
    But if I don't put this tag inside the web applicaction, but in the global-web-applicacion.xml (web-app) tag, it doesn't work.
    We are testing the 404 error page, but I don't know if it is because the application server can't find the error page or because the global-web-application.xml isn't being inherited correctly.
    Where is this file supposed to be looked for? Or the only way to do this is by writing the configuration on all web applications?
    We are using 9.0.3

  • Avoiding unhandled error page branching

    Hi all,
    I was trying to avoid those situations where the user is brought to that spartan error page when an "unhandled" exception occurs, such as a constraint violation.
    In such situations one should first check whether an identical unique key is already existing, that is one should write some pl/sql code for the validation and, if it succeeds, let the process insert the new row or return an error otherwise.
    However I started to wonder: what about moving my insert process inside the validation and trap the exception there?
    So I did, transforming the process (conditional on a certain button) to a conditional pl/sql function returning boolean type of validation and it works just fine.
    So, now, instead of displaying that unwelcoming error page, I write an inline notification telling the user that an identical entry is already existing which looks much better.
    My only concern was with the commit/rollback behind the scene, but I didn't find problems until now.
    What do you think guys?

    Scott,
    I forgot to mention that most likely this "validation" must occur last, at the very end of the chain of real validations on the fields.
    The page where I tested this contains several item validations and three different branches depending on buttons and also the validations are depending on those buttons.
    After completing 10 "normal" validations there are these two special validations hooked up to two distinct buttons and they work fine.
    Of course it doesn't make sense to execute them upfront, before item validations, it would be a big mistake from the application logic viewpoint.
    Last but not least, this way I avoid also a custom validation checking against the primary key and/or unique key(s) by means of a query which would require a very similar approach, either a SQL or PL/SQL custom function.
    I mean, not a big deal probably, but the lighter is the burden on the server, the better, isn't it?

  • Problems with error-page in web.xml and page caching

    Having a few problems with error pages and web.xml with browsers caching the error pages and strange errors coming out of weblogic.servlet.intenal.WebAppServletContext
    I'm trying to set a web app up so that all http errors and all exceptions are routed thruogh predefined resources. For now, I'm simply send 400 errors to 400.html and the ServletException, IOException and RuntimeException to respective html pages.
    What I'm finding is that the error codes work fine but the exceptions are only be routed to the correct error page for the first call to the servlet after server restart.
    So for example, I have my servlet throwing a ServletException as a test case. The weblogic server log shows that ServletException is thrown, and the correct error page for ServletExceptions is shown.
    If I change the Servlet code to throw IOException in place of SevletException, the weblogic.log shows that IOExceptyion is being thrown (so the servlet has deployed successfully), however the Servletxception error page is shown on the browser.
    I'm using IE6 and I've changed the setting such that a new page is requested every time using the tools-internet options-temp internet files-settings option to "check for new versions of stored pages: Every visit to the page".
    Despite this, the servlet exception error page still appears.
    If you clear the cache from the temp intenet files->delete files IE option, the correct errror page will be shown so it appears that the browser cache is being used after all.
    everytime I delete the temp intenet files I get the correct error page on the first request after but then not after that.
    I have implemented the service method for this test to throw the exceptions - does this make a differecne?
    As a test, I have moved the imlpementation to the doGet method instead bu I now get a strange eror from weblogic comlpaining about an arrayOutOfBoundsException because eror codes in the web.xml are not supported! - see error above.
    Any help is appreciated

    After further investigation: -
    There are no problems with error pages based on error codes, only error exceptions.
    As a test case, I have a service method in a servlet throwing either one of the three exception types that servlets can throw (Runtime, Servlet & IO) the following rules apply. The exception to be thrown is hardcoded and is changed and the web app rebuilt each time. The correct web.xml has been deployed to the app server (checked through console). the webapp is being redeployed correctly - this can be seen in the weblogic log, where the correct exception is reported.
    I am using WLS 8.1, Servlet 2.3, JDK 1.4.1_02
    In all cases, the weblogic log reports that the servlet is throwing the exception as expected.
    Despite having set error-page for exception javax.servlet.ServletException, the exceptions are diverted to the error page that has been set up for http error code 500
    The error page for ServletException is therefore never reached.
    I have the browser set to request pages every time it is asked.
    Once the servlet has thrown an IOException, the only way to get the browser to report an IO or Runtime exception error-page is to clear the browser cache. Restarting the server has no effect.
    Once the servlet has responded with ANY exception, it is not possible to get it to report a ServletException (which is incorrectly reported as a 500 anyway) unless the cache is cleared. Restarting the server has no effect.
    In the case where the servlet throws ServletException, it has no root exception. The servlet 2.3 spec states that if ServletException is thrown but cannot be found in the error pages, the root excpetion will be extracted and the error page list traversed again. Knowing that the RuntimeException error page is correct shown when RuntimeException is throwm, I have nested this inside the ServletException, however error page for http error 500 is still shown.
    I don't believe this is a WLS 8.1 problem, as the console shows that the correct exception is thrown each time. this is backed up by the fact that the correct exception page is thrown when the cache is cleared regardless of what exception was previousdly thrown by the servlet. This excludes ServletException which is always incorrectly thrown as a 500.

  • Error page template

    Hi
    We've recently upgraded to APEX 4.2.1 from APEX 4.1.1 and are updating our themes to take advantage of some of the new features.
    Previously we've used an error page template to display a nice error page when something has gone wrong. An easy way for us to test this, as most things are handled nicely within the application, is to manipulate the URL to go to a page that doesn't exist. In 4.1.1 this took us to a nice looking page, which used our template, saying that the page could not be found and to contact the application administrator. However in 4.2.1 it doesn't use the template and takes us to the standard error page which has no styling.
    I've tried searching for changes in this version that might cause this, but haven't found anything to explain it. The theme is still setup to use the Error Page template we've created which has the Error Page Template field entered.
    Does anyone know why it would stop using our error page template? And what we could do to correct it?
    Many thanks for your time,
    Sara

    SaraWhat I have found is that even though you define an error page template it will only be used by the errors that are set to display on error page. Eg. Validation error set to 'On Error Page'
    As the help text says:
    <ul>Specifies a page template to use for errors that display on a separate page as opposed to those that display inline. Leave this attribute blank if you do not wish to use a template designed to display errors.</ul>
    But if you use an error handling function you can probably decide this dynamically based on your page or error description etc in PL/SQL.
    But I never thought this will be used in case you try to access an invalid page because it is an 404 error

  • WLS 8.1 error-page being ignored?

    Hey all,
    I've been developing a package for a client of mine on WLS for a long time. I've ported it all the way back from 5.1 to 8.1 currently. Recently, they wanted custom error pages. I think to myself "Self, no biggie we'll just use the "error-page" standard in the web.xml". Well I added the following entries to test my theory:
    <error-page>
    <error-code>404</error-code>
    <location>/error/index.jsp</location>
    </error-page>
    And also when that failed (after reading a post about a problem with this in 6.x):
    <error-page>
    <error-code>404</error-code>
    <location>http://<server:port>/error/index.jsp</location>
    </error-page>
    When I go to a non-existant page, I get the standard WLS 404 error page. This happens in firefox and in IE (in IE I turned off friendly http error messages - again after reading a previous post). Any ideas? The container seems to simply ignore my error-page declarations.
    Jeremy

    OK so I'm a total twit and WLS didn't catch my updated EAR file. A simple touch later and it's good to go :)

    Hi Stephan,
    unless we don't ask for it, please do not post this much content. This might be suitable for support messages, but not for this forum. There might be situations where you get asked for more information, but a post like this one just scares of anyone who might know an answer.
    Also, your thread title does not give any information on your problem, as a "dump when testing web pages" can be anything.
    I would suggest to re-state your question, just giving the information that others need.
    I haven't worked with CRM, but I wonder if this is a custom application or a shipped one.
