A website is posing as Firefox update site, forces you to download a probably malicious fake firefox-update.exe

The site
http:// firefox.perl .sh/
is posing as a firefox update site, and tries to get you to run an executable (firefox-update.exe)

'''I had something similar happen to me a couple of days ago but the page was what looked like a 'Firefox Reported Attack Site' page!'''
I went to Google and searched for 'Mystical pictures of London'>clicked 'Images' and on the first page of Google Images there was a picture that was out of place and lets say a little explicit.
I couldn't make it out properly so clicked on the Pic. That's when i got redirected to what looked like the Firefox Reported Attack Site page, but it had a 'Download Updates' tab instead of the usual 'Get me out of Here' tab. I then got a Prompt saying:
'The Website has been blocked based on your security preferences.
Click 'OK' to download and install firefox updates.
I clicked 'ok' knowing i would then get the prompt to save the file, so i could have a better look at what it was!
I then took a screenshot of the pop up prompt and clicked cancel.
Then run a full scan with Malwarebytes
and it found a 'Rough Installer' Virus!
Now i need to find a way of reporting this!?
(Leaving a space or spaces in the links)
The link on the Pic said:
mysticalparty. png
On the prompt it said:
You have chosen to open
firefox_update_2011. exe
Which is a: Binary File
from: http:// dl. av2011. co. cc
I have also saved the Log from my MBAM scan.
I hope i have not broken any rules putting the info up here, but i'm no Techno Wizz...I just don't want anyone else to make the same mistake as me and want this site Reported and closed down!
Any Help or Advise would be Great!

  • Are there any sites where you can download zipped .band files?

I know there are demo song downloads around, but I'm looking for any site that has collections of zipped .band files of public domain song arrangements, free or not. If there aren't any, there should be. I would love to be able to download, and play around with an arrangement like this... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=umMmGgsxBWA

I have not found one yet.
If there aren't any, there should be.

  • Updated to 10.9.4 (Mavericks). Now a fake 'java' update request keeps popping up.

Howdy!  I updated my MacBook Pro recently to 10.9.4 (Mavericks).  Update went fine, except for one issue.
Several times a day since the update, a Software Update window pops up prompting me to install an update to run 'java.'  See the attached screen capture image.
As you can see, it looks pretty fishy.  For one thing, there's no "decline" option: simply "Not Now" or "Install."  For another, they couldn't even capitalize "java."  And Software Updates claims that all of my programs are up to date.
I'm assuming this is some kind of virus/malware.  But, scans of my computer don't show anything nefarious installed on my machine.
I keep hitting "Not Now" every time this window pops up.  But, I'm afraid one day I'll accidentally hit "Install" (especially since it pops up without warning).  Any suggestions or advice on how to deal with this?
    Thanks!

  • Now that I was sent by Microsoft to your download update site to get the latest version 4.0.1, Firefox crashes (becomes non-responsive) before opening any site page I try. When will you fix this problem?

For two weeks I have tried to use your automatic download of the latest version 4.0.1. It would sit there telling me it is trying to connect to the download computer for hours, several times overnight. Then, it became non-responsive and error messages were sent to Microsoft who directed me to your download site. After downloading your latest version several times, the new page would open. After selecting a bookmarked site, it would open (sometimes only partially) but when I tried to scroll down, it would freeze up and become non-responsive, again prompting error messages to Microsoft. They must be getting a kick out of this. I'm running a Gateway 7200S desktop with Microsoft XP and Intel single range Pentium 4 processor. I have been using your Mozilla Firefox as my default browser for several years with much satisfaction. Unfortunately, whatever upgrades were made have rendered it useless for me.

I have had a similar problem with my system. I just recently (within a week of this post) built a brand new desktop. I installed Windows 7 64-bit Home and had a clean install, no problems. Using IE downloaded an anti-virus program, and then, because it was the latest version, downloaded and installed Firefox 4.0. As I began to search the internet for other programs to install after about maybe 10-15 minutes my computer crashes. Blank screen (yet monitor was still receiving a signal from computer) and completely frozen (couldn't even change the caps and num lock on keyboard). I thought I perhaps forgot to reboot after an update so I did a manual reboot and it started up fine.
When ever I got on the internet (still using firefox) it would crash after anywhere between 5-15 minutes. Since I've had good experience with FF in the past I thought it must be either the drivers or a hardware problem. So in-between crashes I updated all the drivers. Still had the same problem. Took the computer to a friend who knows more about computers than I do, made sure all the drivers were updated, same problem. We thought that it might be a hardware problem (bad video card, chipset, overheating issues, etc.), but after my friend played around with my computer for a day he found that when he didn't start FF at all it worked fine, even after watching a movie, or going through a playlist on Youtube.
At the time of this posting I'm going to try to uninstall FF 4.0 and download and install FF 3.6.16 which is currently on my laptop and works like a dream. Hopefully that will do the trick, because I love using FF and would hate to have to switch to another browser. Hopefully Mozilla will work out the kinks with FF 4 so I can continue to use it.
I apologize for the lengthy post. Any feedback would be appreciated, but is not necessary. I will try and post back after I try FF 3.16.6.

It is possible that your security software (firewall, anti-virus) blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full, unrestricted, access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

  • FTP site not available to download SoftPaq SP71578 (Seagate drive firmware update)

Per HP CUSTOMER ADVISORY (Document ID: c04750687) there is a firmware issue with various Seagate Kahuna hard drives.  A SoftPaq has been issued (SP71578) but is currenty unavailable to download from the HP FTP site.  Is there an issue with the FTP site, that specific SoftPaq or (alternately) is there some other location from which the SoftPaq might be obtained?

This is dated January 21st, so I hope it's been updated...

    Also, I found this:
MOST IMPORTANT - If you have a reasonable suspicion that you may have an affected drive - do not power the unit off - make fresh backups immediately. The power-on process is what triggers the failure.

  • Why does the advisory for downloading update 28.0 run but never contact the server or download anything for my Mac Firefox 27.0.1?

I'm running OS X 10.9.2 on an iMac with a 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor and 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3 memory. All previous updates have downloaded and installed flawlessly, but every time it arrives -- and that's been several times so far -- this one has simply shown that blue-and-white striped busy bar, says it's contacting the server, and does nothing, no matter how long I leave it running.

That's weird but you should be able to manually install the update like this:
    #Download a fresh copy from [http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/ here] - direct link (https://download.mozilla.org/?product=firefox-28.0-SSL&os=osx&lang=en-US)
#Install the new version. For details, see [[How to download and install Firefox on Mac]]
Usually this fixes this issue with automatic updates. There will be new version available starting next Tuesday. The automatic update will happen sometime over the following week or so.
Let me know how it goes.<br>
    Thanks,<br>
    Michael

  • More new drivers update site

    coming fast and furious now.
Version 2860 for the nforce APU on windows update site XP.
Some new changes, a thing called AGC under and advanced tab master volume
    Bass and treble still ghosted.
Okay so AGC = auto gain control??? anybody!  )

If you enable the WindowsUpdate Catalog option in windows update (click on the Personalize Windows Update on the left pane and enable), you can download a .cab file with the update in it.
Just search n the Sound category, nVidia, WinXp.
Then it is up to you to install the files from the device manager.
WindowsUpdate catalog works on Win2k and WinXp machines only. I was able to install the files in the cab file I downloaded on a Win2K machine on my WinME nForce without trouble.
Or someone could e-mail you the files. :-)

  • Why is firefox always updating. It doesn't give you a choice and it sometime just restarts or force you to restart and what your were working on is gone.

Firefox downloads the update -- then forces you to restart and loose your work.

Unfortunately, it is becoming more and more common for these kinds of "extras" (toolbars, security scanners, etc.) to be added to your browser/system/desktop when adding or updating other software, some from very well-know software vendors. You must carefully read information before downloading any "free" software and be very alert during the install process for any opportunity to opt-out of "extras" being installed.

  • Federal Student aid website supports only mozilla foxfire 3.5 how can i download this version only/

I need to download only the 3.5 version of foxfire because the federal goverment website for student aid supports only that

According to other posts, the FAFSA site should work with Firefox 3.6.18, which is a more recent and more secure version of Firefox.
You can install Firefox 3.6.18 from here: http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all-older
Or if you prefer, you can install Firefox 5, and use a portable version of Firefox 3.6.18 for this one site. You can download that from here:
    http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/firefox_portable/localization#legacy36
    Any luck?

  • Our CMS does not support new version of Firefox. Can I have the "downgraded" version of Firefox AND the upgraded Firefox both on my Mac, so I can use the older Firefox to manage my CMS?

Essentially, the CMS we use to manage our website (mainstreetartsfest.org) is Sitefinity, and apparently it doesn't support the newest version of Firefox. And, from what I understand, this version of Sitefinity is not being upgraded at the support level - we are now being asked to spend $$ on moving to a new CMS to support the browsers. Chrome, Safari also a problem. Only IE works, and we all have Macs. I want to know if we can have the older Firefox AND the upgraded Firefox both on our computers so we can use the new Firefox for general browsing, and resort to the older, 3.2 version for managing the CMS. I know I can download a previous version - but I would rather not replace our new version of Firefox in the process.

You can get the latest version of Firefox 3.6 from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
Mozilla are working to prevent Mac users with non-compatible systems from getting the notification about Firefox 4, and also not displaying the "Download Firefox 4" button on http://www.mozilla.com
