IPhone: Using embedded QT movies that either Loop or Loop Back and Forth
Hi to everyone,
I'm working on a very simple iPhone app:
it has several buttons that launch different QuickTime movies embedded in the application, that will either Loop or Loop Back and Forth.
The desired looping behaviour is already set within QuickTime itself (those settings are available in QuickTime's View menu).
So far it doesn't seem to work, as the iPhone's SDK doesn't seem to recognize these QuickTime settings of Loop or Loop Back and Forth.
I've been trying to find advanced documentation on the matter, with no luck.
Does anyone knows if it's possible to create an iPhone application that has embedded QuickTime movies that either Loop or Loop Back and Forth?
If it is possible to do so, can you please post some code (or links) explaining how to proceed?
If the feature is not currently supported, does anyone knows if it will eventually be supported by Apple (maybe in a future SDK revision)?
While I don't know the entire context the SDK engineering team has to contend with, it seems to me it should be rather simple for Apple's iPhone SDK to simply accept the settings already put in place inside a QuickTime movie.

The QTMovieLoopsAttribute is not supported in the SDK's QT Kit.
I'll now call it SDK's *QuickTime Kit Lite*, if you don't mind.
*QuickTime Kit Lite*, the key audio/video toolbox available for development of applications on the iPhone through the SDK, provides a single option:
a Play / Stop button.
The only other thing available (I think) is the option to hide the play/stop controller. That's it.
Apparently, there are several unofficial, private frameworks that give access to lower-level QuickTime functions and that may provide a way to actually loop videos, but chances are that an app using these unofficial frameworks would get rejected by Apple upon submission for the store.
I'm still waiting for more info and the final word from my programmers, but from the looks of it, this is going to be a show-stopper shortcoming of QT Kit Lite, as far as my project is concerned.
I'm probably going to have to fold my project and wait (hope) for an eventual upgrade to the SDK's QT Kit.
By the way, does anyone knows if there is a way to communicate with Apple and request new features for inclusion in future revisions of the SDK?
Upgrading the QuickTime Kit librairies to include the video Loop and Loop Back and Forth Attributes would be my first (and only) request.

My 27" iMAC is less than 3 month old. Many times regardless of what application I am in the screen will start shifting back and forth left to right. Then I can't do anything until the screen stabilizes. This takes anywhere from 5 to 25 secs. Any ideas?
why don't you take advantage of the free 90 days of AppleCare and utilize the free, professional telephone support from Apple instead of asking in the forums?

Open windows flashing back and forth
The windows I have open go from one on top of the other to all spread out. This flashes repeatedly. I've repaired permissions from my original operating cd and it clears it up for about a day - until the last time. Now it won't clear at all. I'm able to type now because I logged out of my adm account into a test account. It is not doing it here. I recently uploaded iLife 9. When I repair permissions, most are regarding the iLife program. I disabled time machine in January but backed it up a couple of days ago and can get in there to restore, but I am sure that it will occur again from my last back up. Does anyone have any ideas? I thought I'd uninstall iLife but don't know how to get it all out. PLEASE HELP.
Sounds like an issue with expose. Are you using a Mitey Mouse? I have found that the side buttons to be too sensitive and when I use the mouse it is always activating whatever was assigned to the side buttons, so I disabled the side buttons in the Mouse preferences. Perhaps the same is happening to you. Try squeezing the sides of the mouse and see if that toggles it. If so, there is your problem.
Either turn off the side buttons of your mouse or turn off expose (also in preferences).

I was online (on Facebook) when suddenly my coputer screen developed these little dots--uniform across it not just in a browser window--and they started flashing back and forth between blue and pink. The computer froze up and I had to reboot. It hasn't gone away and it's terribly annoying. What should I try to do?
It may be a problem with your video electronics - possibly heat related. Shutdown the PB & leave it overnight. Then startup & see if the dots appear.

HP PhotoSmart 6525 Switching Back-and-Forth between Wireless and USB
Hi,
I setup my HP PhotoSmart 6525 using the "Wireless with a router" setup instructions (i.e. not Wireless Direct). I am able to print from my laptop through the wireless network. I would also like to be able to print from my laptop using the USB connection at times when my laptop is physically sitting next to the printer. At times when it is not, I want to continue to be able to print wirelessly.
Is it possible to setup the print drivers on the laptop so that I can easily switch back-and-forth between USB printing and wireless network printing? I suspect that it may not be possible because the user guide has a section describing how to "Change from a USB connection to a wireless network" that has you click on a menu item called "Convert a USB connected printer to wireless". There are no instructions for how to convert back to USB. Moreover, the use of the word "convert" does not make it sound like you can maintain both print methods simultaneously on a single computer.
Does anyone know whether it can be done, and if so how?

I see you have the HP Photosmart 6525 installed for Wireless printing capacity and would also like to add a USB driver so that it is available for use when near the printer. Please follow the steps below to add a copy of the printer for USB printing. The below steps are for Windows 7 and below based computers. If you have Windows 8, then the steps will be slightly different so let me know. Please let me know if you have a Mac, because I can provide those steps at that time.
Press the Start menu of the computer
Select All Programs
Open the HP Folder
Open the folder for the HP Photosmart 6520 series
Select "Printer Setup and Software"
Select the option to Add a new printer
Select the USB option
Plug the USB cable in when the software requests it and proceed through the install process
This will leave the Wireless driver support in place and add a second printer under the Devices and Printers window for USB printing. The USB printer may contain Copy 1 in the name as a differentiation, however the other one should also state Network in the printer name to indicate it is the wireless option.

Episode stops at one moment and the picture moves back and forth!
I have bought a series of 4 episodes. The first two were working just fine, but the 3rd one stops exactly at 5 minutes 30. in itunes, the picture starts moving back and forth and when i scroll to another point in the timeline, the image gets green or the episode is playing in high speed!? at about 10 minutes the video seems to start working again.
As far as i have seen, episode number 4 is working fine as well.
i installed the newest versions of itunes and quicktime but it didn't help
maybe something went wrong while downloading? if so, is there a possibility to redownload it somehow?

How can I get that 'save open sites' option back?
Before I upgraded to V4.0.1, I could close firefox & it would save the sites that I had open at the time. But now it still asks if I want to close them, but I don't have the option to save them (so that they will open automatically the next time I open firefox). How can I get that 'save open sites' option back? .I have since tried to fic it by completely uninstalling firefox (including all settings & cookies) & then re-installing it, but I still don't have that feature available.

Every time I open up Firefox it appears to open two nested and linked windows, each with their own minimize, maximize and close buttons but the both work the same. The homepage does not come up, the back and forth buttons do not work. Both the refresh button and F5 do not work. The Bookmark Toolbar does not show up until I disable it in View and then re-enable it and this causes the outer nested window to disappear or close.
This issue can be caused by an extension or theme that isn't working properly.
Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
* Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

Reinstall OS X:
Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
Do the following:
1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer. Proceed with reinstalling OS X. Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files. After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install the Combo Updater for the version you prefer from support.apple.com/downloads/.
Reinstalling Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.

Yesterday i installed the firefox 6.0 on my windows 7 computer. When i double-click the mozilla icon, it doesn't start. I opened the task manager and noted that the process "firefox.exe" appears and desappear after 5 seconds. I tried to start mozilla in safe mode but the problem remains. The only way to use mozilla in my computer is restarting the windows in safe-mode. Last thing: i already tried to reinstall the program. Please help me!

Now for the intersting bit: TenFourFox, like Firefox, does not support most plug-ins. Unless you are prone to headaches (in which case don't) you can read about that here:

But there is a workaround!
Open TenFourFox and type in the address bar: about:config (no spaces) and click return. This gives you a warning that it might harm the application. Ignore that and click on 'I'll be careful, I promise' and you get the config file that you can edit - with great care.
Look/search (scroll down) for: tenfourfox.plugins.enabled
Set it to true. (Double click it to toggle it)
Now close TenFourFox, open it again, and Flash will now work, as it now uses the plug-ins that Safari has stored.

So, if you go to any sites that have been designed for this new Silverlight stuff, you can download the plug-in from here (but make certain that you are downloading SilverLight v.1.0 for OS X (10.4.8 upwards) if you are using a PPC Mac, but even this will not work with Safari 4. After 2 hours transferred back and forth between billing, one bill, home and wireless no one could prove that I owed money. Wireless said I owed nothing and home said I had a credit for cancelling a couple days before the billing cycle but owed for wireless. After a three-way called between Home and Wireless and Wireless insisting I do not owe anything, the Home representative disconnected herself, the wireless rep promised me a call back the next day to get the other department online and to get everything resolved. No one called me back next day and the day after. Knowing this could go in circles and don't want to do anything bad to my credit, I paid the settlement amount to the collection agencies. Now I saw that my credit score got ding for an amount that Verizon couldn't prove that I owed. I should not have paid it at all. If someone from Verizon reads this message, please get back to me and get this resolved. After more than 15 years with this company, this is making me so frustrated. I liked Verizon services but at this point I am going to start looking for someone with better billing.
I called customer service, spoke to Verizon Wireless Representative but they cannot pull anything on my record. So after two transfers I asked to speak to financial services. Spoke to Ronnie Ext 5100. Representative was very rude, not listening, kept on insisting that since I paid the collection agency I cannot dispute. Said should not have paid the collection agency. Rep was over talking, not listing to me explaining my frustration of being on the phone for hours in November between Verizon OneBill, Home and Wireless and got nothing resolved, and that's why I paid. Said there's nothing she can do except to put a note to Credit Bureau that the account is paid in full. I asked to talk to a supervisor or a manager and she said no one can do anything else. I insisted and she asked me to leave a phone number to call back. After all the calls and speaking to many reps, this is the worst. Now I am back to square one waiting for someone to call me back. And my credit score is still one hundred points lower thanks to Verizon!!!

Why does Quicktime tell me it can't play certain videos created with my Phantom 2 v3 drone ? I fly the drone and switch back and forth from video to still pics and while I may have filmed four videos , sometimes Quicktime tells me that one of them can't be played . Checking the info shows that each of the unplayed videos was saved in the same mp4 format as the playable ones yet some of my most important videos won't play . It's getting very frustrating .
first; I use Perian, that helps even though it is no longer supported, (must have for avi files)
the apple-cores at apple have gotten very sloppy -- quicktime is a bit finicky and flakey.
example, occasionally (when copy file from quad's card to hard drive) the avi will show up as a 'mov' file and qt plays it no problem and no conversion.
but that is very occasionally, most of the time qt won't convert the file, -- iMovie won't open an avi without Perian installed , I don't know how that effects qt.
qt 7"pro" is no good either, (qt 10 does everything it does and for NOT the extra $35)
I have gone to VLC and MPlayerX for direct playback for drones and cameras.

10000 FPS Slow Motion Questions
I am shooting at 10000 fps using the Sony HVR-V1U. I am attempting to achieve a smooth slow motion shot. Final cut shows the footage as being very jerky and blurry. Does Final Cut support high fps and if so how do I import it properly so that I can e
