A weird ticking sound from the base of my macbook pro?

My macbook pro was bought in October 2011 but I think it's the Early 2011 edition. It's an 15 inch. My problem is that I hear a weird ticking noise coming from the base of the computer. It sounds like it is coming from under the keyboard and the mouse pad. I usually hear it whenever I move it around or place my hands on the hand rest spot(?) when I'm typing. Anybody know if I should be worried or how to fix it? The sound is really annoying... Let it be known that I baby my macbook pro. I have never dropped it on the floor or slammed it on a table or something.
Thank you in advance
P.S. If it matters, I'm running on
Mac OS X Lion 10.7.2.

That could be the stepping motor in the hard drive making noise.  Sometimes the noise means nothing, other times it could mean a problem with the hard drive and it could fail soon.  Could be a fan out of allignment.  If you can backup your data, do so.  If you an get to an Apple genius bar, take it in and have the techs run some tests to find out what the noise is.

  • Freezing upon start up and odd "chirping" noise from the base of my Macbook Pro summer 2011.

Sometimes when I start up my macbook pro it freezes and I get the "thinking" icon in place of my mouse.  The only way to resolve this is to force shut down my computer.  Also, when I put pressure on the bottom of my computer to lift it up I get this odd chirping noise.

  • TS1501 transferring a small batch of photos from the new ipad to macbook pro (this way you can upload one album at a time, file them into a new album on macbook pro)  Pls. advise.

How can I transfer a small batch of photos from the new ipad to macbook pro?  In theory, I should be able to keep my albums together this way (once uploaded to macbook pro, i can easily file them into a new album on macbook pro.)  Not working for me!  Macbook pro does include iphoto.  I had no problem uploading ALL photos (3 or 4,000.)  Help!  Goal is to keep albums together.

    Hi all,
    Goal:  Backing up photos!
Hope:  Transfer ALBUMS from ipad to external drive (via macbook pro)
Is this possible?  Or will I have to create a file name for each of my thousands of photos?
    UGH!
    HELP!

  • How do I restore from the icloud to my MacBook Pro?

I am not seeing how to RESTORE from iCloud back to my MacBook Pro... how do I do this?  My Harddrive died a few weeks ago and I want to recover whatever I have in the cloud.

    Howdy Mdelrusso,
It sounds like you are wanting to restore from your iCloud backup to your MacBook Pro.
iCloud backups are for iOS devices, and does not backup Mac computers.
    What iCloud backs up
You have important information on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. iCloud automatically backs up your device over Wi-Fi every day while it’s turned on, locked, and connected to a power source. With your device information backed up in iCloud, you can easily set up a new device or restore information on one you already have.

  • No sound from headphone port in 15" macbook pro mid 2012

    Hi everyone,
I'm having a problem.  I didn't use my headphone port for a long time and then when I did I used a non-Apple headphone and when I got no sound I thought it because it was b/c of this.  So when I used an Apple headphone recently I found I had the same problem.  I am wondering if there is a fix out there or if it is something inherent and I need to get it repaired.  I get sound from the built in speakers just not from the headphone jack.  Much thanks in advance for any advice.

  • Is there a big difference from the 2009 vs 2011 Macbook pro 15?

I also would like to know if there is a big difference between the 2009 vs 2011 macbook Pro 15"?If so is it enough to make me want a BRAND NEW MACBOOK PRO 15"?

    Yes!
    The new macbook pro has:
    1. Faster processors, with option for QUAD Core!
    2. Thunderbolt!
    3. Larger harddrive
    4. Better camera (HD)
Also, Lion is now available! If you buy the old one, you would have to pay extra to upgrade to lion later.

  • Loud rattling sound from the back of my MacBook?

    It doesn't sound healthy...
I don't remember what it sounded like before this sound started - But that just proves that I haven't had this sound since I bought it.
It's like a constant rattle (quiet) like something's loose... And then there's a quieter hummmmmmmm from the fan..
If I turn the laptop upside down (so keys are facing the floor) it stops!
Could it be a loose part? Or is it supposed to sound like that? (My first Mac)
    Thanks.

I fixed it... by hitting the bottom quite firmly.
But I'll ring Apple Care next week if the problem comes back!
    Thanks

  • No sound from internal speakers of my macbook pro since 11.01 itunes update

    hi guys,
i upated my macbook pro to latest itunes and since then all i get is sound when anything is plugged into the headphones,
if i try to play from the in built speakers its greyed out and there is nothing apart from digital for an output in the settings, But the settings appear as soon as i plug into the headphone socket
HELP !!! its no more than a year old ???

    Try a PRAM reset:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11243
If that fails, check the audio output port and look for a red light.  If there is one visible, then it means that the internal switch is stuck.  Take the earphone jack and insert it a few time and see if you can trip it.  If that fails, jiggle a tooth pick inside.  If that fails, take it to the Apple store and have the technician do it.
    Ciao.

  • How do I download previous music purchases from the Cloud to my Macbook Pro?

I recently purchased my first Apple computer, but have been a longtime iPod user, and as of this past February an iPhone user. So upon getting my new Macbook Pro, I of course began to sync what songs I had purchased from iTunes on my old Windows computers, and iPod and iPhone, that were supposed to be stored in the Cloud. Well, as I've been importing all the physical CD's i own, I began to notice that some of my iTunes purchases hadnt downloaded from the Cloud. So now I've gone through my iPod to see what songs are missing and which aren't. I know now that I am missing two full albums, as well as what I think is another 25+ single songs I've downloaded, and unfortuantely I cannot figure out how to retrieve them for the life of me.  I'm very frustrated that all my purchases didnt show up from the Cloud in the first place! Any help?

  • HT5085 I bought music on my iPhone and cannot download from the cloud to my macbook pro.

I have done this in the past with no problem. My computer is a Macbook Pro and is activated for my itunes account. I manually search or the songs Ive bought on my iphone and can see it says purchased but its grey and not clickable. I dont understand why I cannot download them from the cloud into my computer.

What you can redownload will show under the Purchased link under Quicklinks on the right-hand side of the iTunes store homepage
Or if you want music that you buy on your phone to automatically download on your phone then you can use automatic downloads : Store tab in iTunes > Preferences (command-comma) - that will only apply to new purchases made after you turn it 'on'

  • Does a connector from the Solo 15 to MacBook Pro exist?

Is anyone familiar with the Solo 15 from Brunton? If so can you let me know if an appropriate connector for a MacBook Pro exist? I've been trying for years to connect my Mac to Brunton's SolarRolls without any success. Now I'm thinking of getting Bruton's Solo 15 pwer pack but that still leaves me with the problem of connecting the Solo 15 to the Mac. The problem is the new Mag safe connector. No one seems to have come up with an adaptor for the new connector. I have no problem charging my wife's IBook G4 with the Brunton Solar panels because the IBook G4 uses the older type connector for which there are adaptors available. Any ideas that might help me work around these problems?
    Thanks
    John

That's because Apple has not licensed out the design. There are no 'official' 3rd party power adapters. The link you found is a guy that cuts the MagSafe plugs off Apple adapters and splices them to other power supplies.

  • Why did I get charged for the gift card from the student deal with macbook pro?

Why did I get charged for the $100 gift card student deal that came with the macbook pro? I was told that it would be taken credited off my credit card however; that has not happened. Am I missing something? Have other people been charged for this as well?

The same thing happened to me but it made sense.
I ordered a MBPR on Jun 12 for $2879 which qualified for the free student gift card. The gift card was available to ship (delivers June 20 - June 21) but the MBPR wasn't available until a month later (deliverys July 3 - July 10). Instead of holding the gift card until the MBPR was ready, Apple charged me $100 for the card then shipped it to me.
About a month later when the MBPR was ready, Apple charged me $2779 then shipped it. In the end, I was charged the correct amount $2779 + $100 = $2879.
Why did Apple do this? I suspect that some people have cheated Apple by ordering a Mac to get the promotional gift card then canceled their order after the gift card was spent. Apple is trying to protect itself.
BTW, if you return the mac then you're expected to return the gift card. If you've spent any amount of the card then Apple will deduct this from your refund.

  • Downloading from the internet to my macbook pro

HI I could use some help please. everytime I download something from the internet and I chose to save it, it doesn't give me the option to save it to my desktop or a folder it just automatically download it to the download folder. I have another macbook pro same exact specs and it allows me to make a choice to where I want to save the item. Anyone know where I can change this setting and how to do it. I am computer illiterate so I do know how to navigate around a computer I just can't seem to see where the settings are different between the two computers. Thanks for any help anyone can give!

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
I assume you're using Safari - so open Safari/Preferences/General and under 'Save downloaded files to' set the location you prefer.
Another option is to control/click on a download link and you'll then get a pop-up menu where you can select 'Download linked file as' and chose the destination.

  • Why won't PDF files print from the internet on my MacBook Pro?

I have a MacBook Pro using OS X 10.7.4. I open pdf files at websites but when I try and print them there is no content in the document. The same document on my PC prints without problem. What's the issue?

if your not using adobe, and the native mac application, try a save as then try printing
