A wifi problem that is driving me potty

This problem is common to both the iPhone and iPad but I will post it here.
I have 4 Edimax 7416APN Wireless Access Points. One works perfectly, but the other three exhibit the following behaviour -
I can connect from a desktop or laptop with no problem, indeed I have connected 7 different computers to all three of the WAPs. However, when it comes to an iPhone or iPad I get "incorrect password" if I set a WPA password, but it works fine with a WEP password. I have demonstrated this problem with 4 iPhones and 3 iPads.
I will have a problem convincing my supplier that although I can connect to them successfully with 7 computers I have apparently got 3 faulty units. Can anyone shed any light on this, and I don't think it is the same problem as the "incorrect password" thread elsewhere on this forum.

do they each have a distinct name? Perhaps you are trying to connect to a different ap than you think. Have you tried each of them individually?

I only ever have one powered on at a time, because it is already so confusing I don't want to complicate it. Also, I have reproduced this behaviour in 3 distinct physical locations.

I have a tiny problem that is driving me mad. When I am playing an album in iTunes using cover flow view (with the playlist beneath the artwork picture) the  picture is exactly above the album title. All is symmetrical. When I switch to full screen display, the artwork moves a couple of inches to the left and the display is therefore asymmetrical. Why and how do I correct it? It would drive you mad to.
    Thanks for any help,
    Graham

I was having the same problem, but tried the "Top Button + Home Button" reset and that did work for me. My unofficial guess is that perhaps RAM caches get filled through daily use of various apps leaving no memory for cover flow. Resetting the phone on the phone itself seems to reset that RAM. I can't say it's a cure-all, but it solved my issue. Hope this helps.

  • WiFi problem that won't go away.

I have an iPad 1 32GB WIFI. Still on 5.1.1 (because I can't do anything else). It has only really started having problems in the last few months. I think it's just two years old - so it was still covered by statutory warranty when the issue arose, despite Apple trying to argue to the contrary. Its main problem is the wifi (there are some problems with sound not working and battery life too, but they're less of a problem).
A few months ago, it decided that it just wasn't going to connect to my home wifi network. Full signal strength, but it would just decide to drop out randomly. And when I tried to reconnect, it would tell me that it was unable to connect to the network. Tried everything I read, but nothing changed: turn the actual modem on/off, renewed lease, forget this network, turned the wifi on the iPad on/off, turned airplane mode on/off, tried hard reset, reset network settings - nada. One day, it just randomly decided to start reconnecting and the world was good again.
However, without notice, on Christmas Eve, it decided that it was time to repeat its little issue. Although now it seems to be more annoying. It hasn't connected at all since Christmas Eve (so three days). It will show as having a WIFI full signal strength on the top bar and it will have the network name against Wi-Fi in Settings, but it won't have actually connected because it will just have the spinning loading circle next to the network itself and also next to 'Choose a network...'. Full signal strength though. For the first time though, it has given me a 169.xxx.xxx.xxx IP address (nothing changes this). [Oh, actually, it finally just appeared with a tickmark next to the network name for the first time in days, but the actual internet isn't recognised (there no WIFI signal in the top bar of the iPad and nothing works) - this appears to be because it somehow changed itself from DHCP to Static IP Address].
There doesn't appear to be any problem with my modem/router - iPhone and other computers connect to it without problems.
The spinning circle next to the network when it's "already detected" just makes me want to break the **** thing (I won't , but it's so frustrating).
    What can I do?
Edit: I've already followed the advice on the troubleshooting page (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1398)

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

  • Wifi / Video chat problems that are driving me crazy

    Hello all!
So here's the story. I bought a Macbook Pro about 4 weeks ago, and from the first day i've turned it on, I've been experiencing a few problems regarding my Macbook's wifi and ability to video chat. Ill address each problem separately
    Wifi:
So starting from the first boot up, it seems as if my Macbook Pro doesn't always play well with my network over wifi. After establishing a good connection for at least an hour, web pages will refuse to load, even though airport says I'm connected to the internet and to my network. When i turn airport off and back on, I'm prompted for my network password. When I enter it, it attempts to connect, and i get the message "network timeout". I keep getting this no matter how many times i attempt to reconnect, or restart. I have 2 windows computers (vista and xp) and 2 xboxes that are connected via LAN, and 2 ipod touches, an ipad, an old dell laptop (ubuntu), and a Macbook (snow leopard) that are connected at various times wirelessly. The problem persists no matter what time it is, what day it is, where i am in the house, or what is connected to the network. Some days it will happen 5 times, some days (like today), it has yet to happen, so it's very unpredictable. No other computers, including the Macbook, have this problem. I have yet to test this Macbook Pro on another network. I have searched various forums and tried multiple "network timeout" fixes, only to find myself being disconnected again. The problem does not happen when connected via LAN
    Video Chat:
This problem has also happened previously when i attempted to video chat on the previously mentioned Macbook. No matter what client i use to video chat (Ichat, oovoo, etc.), and no matter how I'm connected (WiFi, LAN), the video quality is very bad, and after a few minutes i lose connection (however, i retain a good internet connection). At best it is choppy, and i can barely understand the other person before i get disconnected. I've tried talking to people of various distances, from people in the same city, to my friend in florida, and i keep getting the same problem. My friends say that they're fine when they talk to other people and the quality is very good in comparison to mine, so I'm lost here. The video chat tests, appleu3test01 and 02 are crystal clear for me, while i don't get a response from 03. I figured it was because i was on wifi, since i have problems over wifi (above), but the problem persists even when connected via LAN. My internet sharing is OFF, as well as any other sharing option. I've gotten mediocre results at best doing VoIP tests, however i get stellar results from speed tests. Wired i get 20mb/s down, 5mb/s up, while wireless i get 5mb/s down, 2.5mb/s up, with a ping of 17ms.
Im curious to know if these two problems are related! My blame right now falls on the router or it's settings, but as of right now i really don't know how to go about fixing this.
My ISP is Verizon FiOS, and i must say I've seen a great improvement from when i switched from my local ISP (Time Warner Cable), however through my searching i have seen people run into problems with the macbook pro and Verizon FiOS and their routers. The problem is, I can't simply replace the router, It's used for the TV and DVR streaming and stuff, it had a COAX cable in it.
If it makes a difference, i needed LAN ports in my room, so i took my old Linksys WRT54G router with DD-WRT Firmware, and connected that to the wire that runs from the Actiontec M1424WR into my room, so i can connect my Xbox and my computer via LAN... that could be a possible interference.
I am a college bound 18 year old living with my parents at the moment, so extreme fixes (like switching ISP's) are out of the question for me, but i do have free reign over the router settings and such, so i can try most reasonable things. I LOVE my macbook pro, and don't see myself going back to windows anytime soon, so i want to fix these problems ASAP. I consider myself to have a good knowledge of computers, so lay every possible solution on me!
    Thanks in advance!

ok so all day yesterday i didn't have the wi-fi problem, but today I'm struggling to keep a connection. The status bar reads "Contacting website.com", and stays that way until i stop it, or it gets reconnected. I changed the settings mentioned above, but no dice. My router is up to date and everything too.
As for the Video Chatting problem, i didn't know that there was a connection doctor, so i tried that, and i get an amber light for "router type", and it says "port restricted". I searched around for a bit, and found somebody who said disabling the firewall on the router helps. I did that, and while i DID notice a significant improvement in video quality and connection quality, i still get an amber light with the message "router type: port restricted. This computers network setup includes one or more devices that are not fully compatible with audio and video chatting.". I still would like to get a green light here, as well as keep my firewall... any suggestions?

  • Can someone help with an audio problem that is driving me crackers!!

hi, i have seen lots of comments about windows sound issues, my problem is it sometimes says i have speakers installed and they are working (but have no sound) and other times (when i turn it back on) it says no device installed/not plugged in etc.... now i know from reading previous posts this is an issue for loads of people, my question really is, can i use speakers that connect via usb rather than 3.5mm jack, and does anyone think this will make any difference?  my dad has suggested fitting a new sound card? will that sort it out, have only had my pc for a week, and it is under warranty but i have to pay the postage to return it (not bought from a shop directly if that makes sense)  i have to date spent about 8 hours googling, reinstalling drivers, everything you could possibly think off and nothing has changed!!!! speakers work as have tried them in my DS and the front headphone jack is not working either   i have installed windows updates and read somewhere that might be an issue?  is there any point doing a system restore and if so how will that work, and will the photos i have uploaded still be saved if i restore to apoint before they were put on?  sorry but im not very technically minded!!
please help me as im slowly going grey!!!  i have a pavilion p6203

    zoehicks
I know you must be very frustrated with the sound issue. It sounds like you've done a lot of research and leg work to figure out what the problem is with little success.  I would not restore the system unless you have backup copies of anything you downloaded (just in case)  As I read....you've uninstalled drivers and rebooted to reinstall and downloaded updates to Win 7  Have you reviewed all the suggestions at the attached Link?  I can't explain why the headphones connection does not work but maybe go look at your main sound setup in control panel to see if there is an issue with the settings there?  Look to see if there is something going on inside the "Hardware and Sound" icon.  These are guesses as I can't understand as well why you've not hit on the appropriate solution. Let me know when you solve this issue what it was.  Regards

  • Problem that is driving me mad

So this weekend a problem begins. I cannot "unlock" the phone by sliding the bar at the bottom, but it will unlock if I slide the bar and press the bottom button. Please forgive me if I don't know the names of the buttons, but it's the round one under the screen. This wouldn't be so bad in and of itself, but I CANNOT answer incoming calls if the screen is blank, because I have to slide the bar AND push the button, and then I lose the call. I am also unable to answer calls using the button on my bluetooth. If anyone had had a similar problem, please let me know
    thanks,
    Brandi

this is a software glitch...try resetting your phone by holding downt eh sleep/wake button and the home button (the one below the screen)...hold those until you see the apple logo...then your iphone will restart...
if that doesn't work, then do a restore through itunes...it will erase everything and then reinstall the software (a fresh version of it)...that should do the trick
if not then goto your local Apple store (but set up an appoint me first goto www.apple.com/retail/ and then select your store to set up a genius appointment) they will help you out...they want to make it right

  • A buffering problem that is driving me nuts!

Hello everyone. First of all I should thank all those who help me in solving this problem. I've updated my flash player to the latest one but have some annotying problems with it. When I pause a video, the buffer goes on and there's no problem; however, as soon as I hit the Play button, the buffer stops, and the time bar sooner orlater catches up with the buffer bar and the result is a disappoiting stop and choppiness in the course of video streaming. I tried the following measures but achieved no result:
    1. Reinstalling the latest flash player
    2. Deleting all the caches including the browser cach, internet cach, and flash player cach
    3. Increasing the virtual memory to the upmost extent possible (1024 MB)
    4. Isolating the stream from any other bandwith usage
    5. Increasing the size of buffer to "unlimited"
    6. Disabling hardware enhancement
    7. Decreasing the video size
Please note that I've tried different browsers and different sites and always got the same result.I use win8 pof. 64x. My internet download speed is about 300 kb/s.
    I highly appreciate your guidlines.
    Thank You

    Hi people
Regarding the afore-mentioned issue, I tried two solutions and got the desirable result. First, for those users who have to use proxies (Like me! from Iran), try to change your proxy server since some servers are not compatible with online streaming. Second, (Idon't know if it's related!), install the latest version of Java along with Adobe Flash plugin. It's done the trick for me.

  • Stupid little problem that is driving me nuts

All I did was to change the normal colour of a link. In iWeb it displays properly, but publish it and it shows as the old normal colour. Checked file attributes of the file in my publish folder and they're as they should be. Visit the site via iWeb on the local drive or uploaded to my site and it still shows the old normal colour. Only in iWeb does it display the new colour.
All other modifications are there and working. Other link colour changes have not been a problem.
www.hooked4life.ca -- it's the link at the very bottom of the home.html page. It should be the same orange as the mailto: link, instead of grey.

    Thanks for the reply.
I had already used the link > format to change the colour of this and other links.
Emptying the browser cache made no difference on my system, nor did reloading the page, nor did visiting the published page inside of iWeb. Grey everywhere. Other orange links work just fine, but not this one.
I'll check on my XP machine after waiting for the 15 minute bootup.

  • How come they still haven't fixed the ios 6 wifi problem on ios 6.0.1 making me mad -.-

I know apple or the tech support doesn't read this but come on tell them to fix the wifi problem that started from ios 6 and still continuing to ios 6.0.1. I already gave them another feedback like 5 days ago. I really don't want to reconnect to my wifi everytime. I already did everything possibly to fix my wifi problem. I know its IOS 6.0.1 because it started with ios 6 and still not fixed by apple update to 6.0.1.
I have a very limit data plan of 300 MB on at&t and I don't want to go over so I rely on my wifi most of the time.

Maybe you just lucked out but both my devices running ios 6.0.1 have wifi problems shutting of at random times during sleep. I know you guys will say when its plugged in it doesn't lose wifi true but I never remember having this problem in the previous ios verison from ios 4 to 5(On my Iphone 4, and from my Iphone 4s from IOS 5) until I updated both devices to ios 6  or even when I had a iTouch 3rd gen long time ago I never remember it shutting of my wifi. I am telling you this never happened before IOS 6 where I need to leave it plugged in just to have my wifi during wake up.

I thought I believed my iPhone 4 with iOS5.0 would not disconnect during sleep mode. However, I was wrong. What I did was to ping the IP addresses on my iPhone 4 (iOS5) and iPhone 5 (iOS 6 then, and iOS6.0.1 now) when they were in sleep mode. Very true that there were timed-out on both devices. Once I woke them up, ping went thru. I did a scan on my home network using my iPad while the other 2 phones were in sleep mode, I was not able to see them.
I thought my iPhone4 did not disconnect too. But again, I think the reconnecting to wifi on iOS 5 is SO MUCH quicker than on iOS6 so user would think there was never a disconnect.

  • N82 wifi problem... Stumped...

Hello, just bought a n82 yesterday and it seems really great, except for one thing, I'm getting that same wifi problem that seems to be cropping up on here. I have a wpa connection which broadcasts the ssid, and we use an edimax router. When I try to connect I get either 'network not found' or 'no gateway reply' messages, i've tried manually entering the details, but still no avail... does anyone have any other ideas?
    Thanks in advance

Your router is sounding dodgier by the minute
You could get one from PCWorld try it out. If it works, keep it and if it doesn't you can always return it

  • Strange macbook pro wifi problems - selective wifi disconnection

I have 3 macbook pros, two iphones and an apple TV.  My primary macbook pro has some very unusual wifi problems that are hard to pin down.  It frequently disconnects and reconnects itself to the internet constantly throughout the day.  I've been testing it in various ways and today I noticed the strangest anomaly by far.
While working today, my primary macbook pro could not connect to the internet through any of the 3 browsers I use.  Airport Utility said the internet was down (internet icon was amber, airport icon was green).  However during this disconnection, my p2p application (Soulseek) experienced no disruption of service and continued to download files.  I opened my second macbook pro and strangely enough, the 2nd mac was able to connect to the internet through browsers without issue, and the airport utility on the 2nd macbook pro said the internet was connected.  My Apple TV was connected too as well as my iPhone.
It is often difficult for me to troubleshoot network problems because there are so many variables (ISP, airport assembly, airport base station, OSX, airport utility, modem) but I guess in this particular instance, it seems clear that the problem has something to do with my macbook pro.
My primary macbook has always had wifi problems (and honestly, my last macbook--the one that actually worked today!--had similar issues back when it was my primary laptop).  Last week, my primary macbook pro had the topcase, display and logic board replaced by Apple.  When it came back, it had the same wifi connectivity issues it always had.  Often, a restart will be a very temporary fix, but not always.
I am at a complete loss for what could be causing these lapses in service.  In fact, right now as I was trying to access these forums, I could not even get my primary macbook to open the Apple Support Site on any browser.  Every other website would open, except Apple Support.  I opened my 2nd laptop and it opened Apple Support just fine.  After 15 minutes, my primary laptop finally opened up an Apple support page in Firefox.
It is really hard to diagnose the problem.  I find that Airport Utility has been so pared down and streamlined to the point that it is worthless.  It is basically a blank window with 2 application logos inside.  It looks very simple and user friendly until it has a problem, and then it tells me to do something very technical without an explanation for the layman (such as assigning DNS servers or putting the airport in Bridge mode).  I always follow Airport Utility's advice, but I still have odd problems.  I am often confused as to whether I should use Airport Utility or the Network button in System Preferences.  They have the same options, but they're arranged under tabs with different titles.
Anyway, does anyone recognize these macbook pro wifi connectivity problems?  Constant wifi disconnection on one machine (while all others experience no connection problems) coupled with instances of selective disconnection (like browsers not connecting while p2p is able to connect or browser connecting to some sites but not all?)
Thanks for any help or guidance

Same exact issue here. It happened once when I updated to Mavericks 10.9.2. It just happened again last night and I can't seem to fix it.
I tried all sorts of things like deleting the SystemConfiguration folder, PRAM, SMC, DNS flush, etc. Nothing helped. As I recall, the last time it happened it mysteriously fixed itself after a day or two.
Very weird problem. I have been troubleshooting computers my whole life but this one is tough to figure out. Other machines in the house connect up just fine.

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

  • Hi I have this problem that my iPad 4 stops connecting to the wifi at around 9:30 every night

Hi I have this problem that my iPad 4 stops connecting to the wifi at around 9:30 every night but my iPhone 5 and Mac mini still connects to the same wifi network I have called apple support and they had no clue what the problem is, have tried changing the http settings to auto and resetting the network setting on the iPad but no luck so far would appreciate any help thanks josh

One possibility is that there is an allowed time period for access programmed into your WiFi router for the MAC address of your iPad.
What make, model, and version WiFi router do you have?
Another possibility is that you are getting some WiFi interference from a nearby WiFi network which is automatically turning on at 9:30 PM. A nearby home security system could be the culprit.

Goodness.......why can't Apple do things right anymore.  Oh I forgot they sell iPhones instead of computers.

Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

    Hey Eric,
Thanks for taking the time. Unfortunately no that does not solve it. Same as swipe it will get me there and it will show separate programs spaced out. The issue I am having is that all my open word files are bunched up in a pile on top of each other. I can see the edges of each one but I want them to be separated from each other enough that I can visually identify what file is what.
Again, thanks for trying, it is appreciated.
