A working browser for OS X.3.9 needed.

I am trying to find a browser that will work for me, but I never expected it to be such a problem.
I have downloaded Firefox, Camino and Shiira. Of the three only Shiira works - both the Mozilla browsers quit as soon as they try to load a site (or as soon as they try to load Google - my homepage!) Shiira isn't bad, a little slow, but is working much better than Safari. But there are still sites that refuse to load at all (Peerflix is one). I know there are several other browsers such as iCab, Opera, etc., and I am hoping someone can advise me as to which one is the best.
Mac Mini, Power Mac 7300/G3 500 upgrade and others!   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   56K dialup because highspeed is still unavailable in rural Ontario!

My employer (where there are 4000+ Macs) installs Firefox and Netscape in addition to Safari (which comes with the OS) on all our Macs. The computers still include a lot of 10.3.9 operating systems since they replace all the computers every 3 years and hence a growing number are on 10.4.8 but a fairly large fraction are on 10.3.9. In any case, we've got thousands of people running Firefox and Safari just fine.
I use mostly Firefox and Safari on my work and personal computers. I've got two on 10.3.9 and one on 10.4.8. The following browsers all work very nicely on both systems: Firefox, Safari, Camino, Opera, OmniWeb, Netscape. My daughter likes to run Firefox, Camino and Safari simultaneously as she is playing games and doing homework on multiple places at once . No issues with any of these. I visited your Peerflix web site and it worked fine with all of these.
I am wondering if your issue might be some unique setup you might have on your computers, or some issue with your phone line (maybe very slow?) or a firewall/router issue? Those browsers you mentioned are used by literally millions of people every day.

  • A good working  browser for mac G3 ?

Hi there I finally got my old clam shell up and running new everything and it now has an aiport card  - now I am looking for a browser that works. Any ideas on what, where and how would be gratefully recieved.
At the moment it is on its original OS 8.  ( i think I have a copy of of the software update to 9  - not risked that yet because it is so nice to have it alive and kicking again.)

You posted in the OS X 10.3 & below forum. Are you saying you need a browser for OS 8 & not OS X? There's not going to be many options & a browser that old may not work with many of today's web pages.
     Cheers, Tom
Here's some possibilities http://mac.oldapps.com/category/browsers Back in that era, I used Internet Explorer, Netscape & Mozilla.

Internet Explorer is the only downloadable browser out there for older mac OS Microsoft does not support it for mac anymore. the newest one that will work with your system is version 5.0.1 Here is a link for it.http://mac.oldapps.com/internet_explorer.php?old_internet_explorer=6

  • We use an Airport Extreme in my office, which works fine for me. Occasionally we need to have more than one computer running on it, but for some reason it won't connect to the internet. It says we have internet, but won't connect to wifi. What's going on?

I use my computer everyday in our office and have no issue connecting to the internet/wifi, but when my boss comes in and tries to connect it doesn't work. It tells her she has internet, but won't connect to the wifi. We've tried a few different tactics(the basic ones I've seen on here), but nothing seems to be working for us. My computer automatically connects to our wifi.
Just recently the Airport Extreme has started with the blinking amber colored light on the front, which I believe means something is wrong? Can anyone help us figure out what's going on and why we can't get my boss' computer to connect as it should?
    Thank you!

    Here's an update:
Now the light is not blinking. It's a solid, consistant green. I don't know if it helps to narrow it down or anything, but I just figured I'd mention it.

  • Do you have a mobile browser for Samsung T528G?

I have the new Samsung T528G, and was checking to see if you have a working browser for this phone.

Well for starters it does not even use Android or Maemo or Meego so no.
Hard to find much information on the cpu used and much about the OS ecpt for comments like Samsung’s proprietary OS and combined TouchWiz 2.0 user interface.

  • Every morning when I awaken my MacBook Pro, I come to find that my Safari browser has been closed. How to fix this? I don't want to lose anything I have possibly typed in a site that I have left to finish working on for later.

Every morning when I "awaken" my MacBook Pro, I come to find that my Safari browser has been closed on it's own. How to fix this? I don't want to lose anything I have possibly typed in a site that I have left to finish working on for later. I checked system preferences and everything seems to be checked appropriately as well as for Safari's preferences.
I am not sure what's going on, because Safari only just recently started doing this and I haven't downloaded anything, nothing out of my regular computer routine. As well, I upgraded to Mavericks when it came out and I have the last version of it too. I can't imagine that Safari would close simply because I don't have or want to upgrade to Yosemite. I am holding off on the upgrade for a bit, because I heard Final Cut Pro 7 can't be run on Yosemite. While I could partition my drive, I really don't want to. Mavericks is fine for right now :   )
Okay sooooo...back to Safari...what the! Please help and thanks for any replies ahead of time!
I Hope All Is Well In Your World :   )

There's an Apple help page on the DNS problem - at http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3408
The first thing to try is changing your DNS settings - and for that you need to open System Preferences, then the
    Network section.
In Network - click  on Advanced - then the DNS tab
under DNS servers - use the + button to enter two extra lines
    either these, from google dns
    8.8.8.8
    8.8.4.4
    or from OpenDNS
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
then click OK & then 'Apply'
You would need to do that seperately for the Cable (Ethernet) settings and Wireless (Airport)

  • My Macbook browser is not compatible with a business website I must use for work.  Is there a Windows compatible browser for my Mac?

My Macbook browser is not compatible with a business website I must use for work.  Is there a Windows compatible browser for my Mac?

If the site has been optimised for IE (which is non-standards compliant), the best you can try is to spoof IE from Safari.
I'm using an earlier version of Safari than you, so I hope Allan or someone will correct me if the procedure is different.
    First, go to Safari Preferences and enable the developer menu;
Then go to the menu and select User Agent - choose a flavour of IE.
Works about 50% of the time.
It won't work if the site is using Activex controls.

  • Does the iPod Touch work well for web browsing and submitting resumes?

Hi, I am interested to know if the Touch would work well for a specific application. Lets say I'm surfing company career websites and want to browse and submit my resume. Would this work well for that? Usually on a computer, I can upload a Word Doc or PDF resume when the career site asks for it. Is this possible? I was wondering if anyone has tried this and can tell me. For instance, has anyone used the Touch to post a resume to Apple's or IBM's career job sites?
    Thanks.

Just to clarify. I'm specifically asking if a web form that allows you to browse your hard drive on a Mac to submit a word doc can also be used on Touch. So if I have a PDF of my resume, can I use a webform to submit it just like on a mac?

  • Flash video has not worked with Firefox browser for years. When will you fix this?

Anyone who uses Firefox browser (for Windows or for Mac) knows that flash video playback ceased working sometime around Firefox ver 13 and has not worked since.
The Mozilla people say it is Adobe's fault - instead of fixing Firefox.
They say roll back to Adobe Flash version 10.
This solves the video problem, but then, any other services that depend on the latest Flash build, quit working properly.
This situation leaves millions of Firefox users in perpetual frustration. We can't use our browser of choice to view any web video built with Flash.
This is so unacceptable. I am unable to understand why Adobe and Firefox don't get together and iron out whatever code incompatibility is causing this.
I would really like to hear Adobe's explanation for this.

Uh... I don't know what planet you posted this from, but Flash video has worked flawlessly with Firefox for hundreds of millions of users here on earth, without any gaps since Firefox was still called Mozilla.
For the record, I have Firefox 28 with Flash Player 13 installed on:
    WIndows XP (SP3-64bit)
    Windows Vista Ultimate (SP2-64bit)
    Windows 7 Ultimate (SP1-64bit)
    Windows 8 Enterprise (64bit-2 machines)
    Windows 8.1 Enterprise (64 bit)
    OS 0.6.8 Server
    OS10.7.5
    OS10.8.5
    OS10.9.2
And I've had Firefox with Flash Player since 2003 on both OS formats. I've never had a compatibility problem.
I also use Chrome, IE, Opera, Safari and a few other browsers you probably never heard of (like SeaMonkey, Maxthon, Waterfox, iCab, OmniWeb)... Flash works in all of them.
I'd have to say the problem is with your system specifically, because if it was a Firefox/Flash compatibility problem, there would have been hundreds of millions of complaints about it, for over a decade. That... just isn't the case.

  • 'Browse For File' icon not working in Dreamweaver CS4

    Hello All.
Ever since upgrading my copy of Dreamweaver from version 8 to CS4, I seem to have accounted an annoying bug (?)
If, for example, I want to change an image on a webpage, I would click the image in question on the screen and by using the Properties panel would select a new image by clicking the 'Browse For File' icon in the 'Source File Of Image' section of the panel.
Then I would select the new image, hit 'OK' and the image would be changed.
Now when I do this nothing happens - the original image remains and cannot be altered.
I now have to manually type the link of the new image into the 'Source File Of Image' field, which is a pain.
I have even disabled my firewall and anti-virus just in case these were somehow conflicting but still no change.
    Any ideas anyone please?
    Thanks,
    Jon
Using Dreamweaver CS4 on Windows Vista Home Premium SP2

If Dreamweaver is behaving in an odd way, it frequently means that there is a corrupt personal configuration folder.
Close Dreamweaver, locate the personal configuration folder, and rename it.
When you restart Dreamweaver, it should create a new configuration folder with all the program defaults.
For details of how to find the configuration folder, see this page in the Dreamweaver FAQ.
    Hope this solves your issue.

  • Pdf caching works different for browser vs reader downloads

We have several very large pdf which are served by our web server (iis).  In analyzing the detail performance metrics we have identified an interesting behavior.  When viewing the pdf from the web link in a browser the web server quickly displays the first page then chunks the remaining parts of the document in roughly 5 kb chunks.  However, even though we have configured these to be cached they don't get cached.  But when we uncheck the Open in Browser setting in reader and allow the document to download and open with the reader it gets cached.  Oddly enough, when we the check the box in Reader to open in the browser again the cached file is honored.
    Server: Windows 2008, IIS
Client:  Vista, Adobe 9.3.2, IE 7.0.6.x
    I appreciate any help

This is not a Reader question. It is a question about how you have your server configured. Perhaps, a Microsoft forum would be appropriate. Generally, when pdfs are created for web viewing you want them to be optimized (which optimizes them for web downloading) and you need the server to byte serve. That is the sum total of my knowledge on the subject.

    Hi Sailor,
It is pretty amazing you got a new version without even knowing it.
In System Preferences > App Store you can turn off the automatic updates by unchecking "Install app updates" as I've done here:
If you're using Numbers across platforms and displaying dynamic output on the iPad or doing data entry there, you'll be *much* happier with Numbers 3.0 than the old version. If you're doing a lot of traditional printing of heavily formatted documents, the old version is much better.  For most day-to-day uses in between it's a toss-up.  The new version, despite its flaws, is a powerful application that can enhance productivity in ways the old version can't.
For more on the differences between the two, see the features gained, features lost, and workarounds threads, plus Apple's support document on features to be reintroduced in the coming months .
