A1 - Launcher apps, what's out there?

My research into a new launcher is thus:
Go Launcher isn't very good
ADW Launcher doesn't show up in the Market, though the EX (paid) version does
LauncherPro - some odd recent reviews - not as good as it used to be; seems to be a discarded project.
Any alternatives - preferably free, and that don't require root? Or could I pick any of them and it'd be an improvement on the Lenovo launcher?

VTL works well. The one in the market is a paid version.  But you can download a free one from XDA. I used the free one for quite some time on my other tablet and decided to upgrade to the paid. Some people complain because it hasn't been updated in quite some time. There are no reasons to update it since it isn't broken.

  • What is out there running OS Platform?

    Hi All
My Palm T/X is dying. Like other folks posts that I've been looking at, I also only want a PDA to keep 'lists' .  I use Smartlist to Go, Docs to Go, Quicken for Palm, assorted other 3rd party palm apps. OK, Palm is no longer making just a PDA; my cell phone carrier will NOT support any Palm Smartphone.
Is there any other handheld (PDA only) out there - by any other manufacturer still being sold as NEW and running the palm OS platform - that can be purchased. As I've read, consensus is to buy a used/refurbished device off the internet. That would be my last resort.
On the Dataviz site, Smartlist to Go can only be run on the OS platform. Their list of OS platform devices doesn't seem to list any devices that haven't been discontinued.
I'm almost at my wit's end, and up that proverbial creek. What is out there that will fit into my purse/jacket pocket that will suit my needs?
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

The biggest hurdle is that the Lithium Ion battery degrades at the time of manufacture.  If a new T|X is been on the shelf for a few years it may or may not have tripped the safety mechanism to where the battery won't charge at all.  At least, that's how I figure why Li-Ions tend to die when in storage with a power draw.  On the other hand, a lightly used but somewhat managed device might have a decent battery.  It just varies, but in my experiences buying used devices anything with a non-removable battery has fared worse than the user replaceable packs.
If it is dying because of a weak battery, it might be a good idea to replace it if it is not a hassle.

    Hi, sallymaesmag.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If you are in the Philippines, check to see if the country is changed in the iTunes Store settings on the iOS device.  These steps will show you how to change the preference.
    Change your iTunes Store country
Sign in to the account for the iTunes Store region you'd like to use. TapSettings > iTunes & App Stores > Apple ID: > View Apple ID > Country/Region.
Follow the onscreen process to change your region, agree to the terms and conditions for the region if necessary, and then change your billing information.

Once you make the change attempt to download applications again.

  • I can't afford an expensive microphone, but I want better quality than internal microphone to record voice. What's out there?

I can't afford an expensive microphone attachment, but I want higher quality to record my voice for eventual radio use. What's out there as far as inexpensive attachments that are easy to use? What can I do using my MacBook Pro?

Not sure what your idea of inexpensive is - have you searched for USB Microphones yet?  There are hundreds of choices under $100 compatible with Mac or Pc.  I'd be cautious and read reviews of the cheaper items as the built-in mic seems to be better than most $20-$30 ones.

  • Is there an app or anything out there, that will allow my iphone voicemail to act as a business voicemail.  Such as "Press 1 to leave a voicemail for such and such, press 2 for support, press 3 for billing."

I would like to set up mailboxes within my iphone voicemail.  I would like to be able to filter out what messages are most important.  Does anyone know if this can be done.  I don't mind paying for the service.

the voicemail is not a part of ios it's a carrier thing
what people have if any in terms of voicemail is what the carrier provided for them

  • What's out there like iMovie?

I have a Sonydigital video camera, however iMovie does not recognize the model and cannot transfer what I've recorded.  Is there a software or application you could recommend me to install on my MacBook pro?

It depends on the nature of your interaction with Acrobat, also you don't mention whether you mean Acrobat Pro or Acrobat Reader.
PDFClerk Pro can perform many of the functions of either Reader or Acrobat Pro and do so more efficiently, and it can even do things Acrobat Pro can't. On the other hand there is functionality in the Adobe offerings (especially Acrobat Pro) that you won't find in either PDFClerk Pro, or PDFPen (Pro). So without specifically knowing what your needs are, it is hard to say which alternatives are viable for you.
You can easily try these software packages though. PDFClerk Pro, for example, is downloadable as a fully functioning demo (with the single limitation that in demo mode all output is stamped with a watermark), so you can see for yourself whether it would fit your needs.

  • Adobe replacement - What's out there other then Adobe Acrobat

I am tired of messing with Adobe Acrobat, is there another Mac friendly program I could use that adequately replaces Acrobat?

  • File server migration software, what is out there?

I'll be migrating about 9Tb of files from 10 file servers from the 'old' domain where we have limited rights to our new domain where we will be having to re-create (rather than migrate) users and security groups. We cannot set up a two way trust between
the domains. (one way may be possible).
The files are user shares, department shares and (unfortunately) PST files.
I was wondering if someone has experience or know about software that could help with this. I've found the
http://www.varonis.com/products/data-transport-engine/ Varonis data transport engine which seems to do what I need. (although I'm not sure if a trust is needed or not).
What would seem especially important is some functionality that 'maps' security groups form the source domain to the target domain groups.
I was hoping you might know of other tools that do the same thing? Any experience with a similar challenge?
    Regards, Paul www.servercare.nl

    Hi,
From the description, you would like to migrate data to a server in a different domain
    with permission.
Copy files with permission is easy - robocopy could help with using /copyall. However the copied permissions will not be recognized as it is a different domain.
Thus if data need to be copied with permission, which means the same users and groups in domainA should be recognized in domainB. This leads us using ADMT (Active Directory Migration Tool) to do the user/group migration first.
However you need a Trust between the 2 domains to do the ADMT. If "limited rights" stopped you from creating a one-way trust (source domain trusts the target domain), you may not able to copy files with permissions.

  • Best gaming laptop out there?

Hi, is anyone aware of the best gaming laptop that I can find at the moment? The price is not really an issue at this point, I just want to see what is out there. Thanks!
    This question was solved.

Forget HP. They all have inadequate fan and heat sink designs for heavy gaming.
     http://www.pro-star.com/index.cfm?mainpage=productdetail&model=X8100&subpage=spec#gotop
This has three fans, two of which are dedicated to the CPU and GPU, one for each. The laptop is designed specifically for gaming.
This laptop's specs. blows any thing that HP has out of the water.

Yeah, I know I can restore it, but I might as well go ahead and try. I just finished a backup for icloud and itunes to make sure, I'll go ahead and restore it and set it up as new and see how that works. Seems like I have no other options at this point, I'd still like to know what they did with the Download tab in itunes store, if they removed it or if I'm just overlooking it.

I tried calling support and they want to sell me $79 worth of support in order to get it straightened out!

  • TS1702 Is here anyone else out there having problems launching the Facebook app

Is there anyone else out there having an issue launching the facebook app

Here is an update for my antenna. The first antenna sent did not fit to connector, second did not fit either. So I checked with the Novatel site and found an adapter was needed. I got the part number, called Verizon, and they sent the adapter which allowed me to start trying the antenna's to see if they would help. They did, but not enough. I got a sleek from Amazon, it helped more especially when used with the antenna's Verizon sent and another adapter that let me use the antenna with the sleek (Amazon again).
Right now my access is very mixed. I can get it to work but it is spotty. I have tried using foil parabolic concentration devices I made using information and advice I got from:
    http://3gstore.com/page/13_will_an_antenna_help_me.html
The recent upgrade available on the admin of the mifi help some more.
That is about all I can presently offer as I am out of options that I know of and the result is spotty. I have forced the mifi to use only evdo so that it will be of enough speed to be of use. It often would jump to a slow speed which it would then stay on which made it almost unusable.

    "Motion 5" is your friend.
Michael Wohl has a nice 15 video series (free) about Motion 5 at http://www.macprovideo.com/tutorial/motion5101-overview-and-workflow-guide (right side)
This is a "teaser" series to sell his tutorials but it is really good. Just saw it yesterday for the first time.
While all you want is just to place pins, realize that Motion has so much more. All kinds of effects and they can be really customized. Maybe put their street address, contact name, and phone number by the pin?
Motion 5: cheap at $49.99 (just got my download two days ago)
    Motion 5: Support Community athttps://discussions.apple.com/community/professional_applications/motion_5
If you're using the map for, say, deliveries, and use an iPad, what you could do is have a general map of the area imported into Motion, create the pins and whatever, then save (share?) it to the iPad.
Disclaimer: I have virtually no relationship with anything connected with this tutorial product, developer, or anything.

I restored my ipod touch however the apps will not sync.  I tried to re-download but I changed my apple id as my old id is no longer a valid email address.  Any ideas out there please?

It might be logical to someone, but not to me. I agree it's a pain.
How did you change your Apple ID? Creating a new one is not what you want to do, but if you changed the ID associated with your purchases then that might have worked. You would need to sign in with the Apple ID on both your iPod Touch as well as in iTunes. I'm not sure how you changed it but clearly they need to match.
If it's just your password that is not getting recognized reset it here: http://iforgot.apple.com/
It will send an email confirmation to the email address associated with that Apple ID. The email address you elect to use might not look anything like your Apple ID. If you don't appear to get an email check your spam filter.
