A105 S4014 pxe-e04 and pxe-e05 errors - LAN configuration corrupt

Frequently I get the above errors on my A105 S4014 laptop, with the result "no operating system found." After much research on these and other forums, I have concluded this is a problem with the LAN card in my laptop. Some questions:
1. How do I get to and replace the Lan card in this laptop?
2. How do I get the Intel Firmware for the Lan card and reflash the card?
3. How can I get a new/used card?
4. Am I correct in my assumption the problem is the LAN card and not hard drive (maybe bad HDD causing attempt to boot from LAN - however, disabled LAN and problem goes away)
Any help greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Thanks for the advice. However, I'm a techno-nut so I will continue to poke until my headache is no longer bearable!
Here's what I have done so far:
1. Downloaded latest version 6 BIOS and installed. This seemed to help greatly, and the system would boot OK with the LAN enabled. But the cursor kept freezing up, so I thought maybe something still wrong with the LAN causing some process to keep trying (should have left matters alone at this point - I did find the cursor problem - see other post). Found a post on another forum by "Matt" who found that making a bootable CD with the Intel Proboot flash on it and reflashing the LAN eeprom fixed the same problem for him.
2. Made bootable CD with Intel Proboot and tried to flash the LAN eeprom. The flash update program first indicated "no flash present" on the adapter, but went ahead and tried to reset to factory defaults.
3. Rebooted computer. This time did not get the PXE errors, but the "Intializing Boot Agent" message appreared (never seen that before) and the LAN adapter was trying DHCP to get an address from the router. However, system would not reboot from the HDD. Checked the BIOS and all boot items but "USB" had disappeared from the boot order. Each time I reloaded the default BIOS and saved, when rebooting the system STILL tried to boot from the LAN. Each time, inspection of the boot order showed a "p" in position 1, nothing for positions 2,3,4 and USB for position 5.
4. Later, after perusing in detail the info on the Proboot Flash utility, I discovered in "fine print" that the utility was not meant to be used with internal adapters (I guess those on the motherboard, not removeable) and indicated the computer's BIOS controlled the LAN on those. So I figured that using that LAN flash utility somehow messed up the BIOS interface between the BIOS and the eeprom on the LAN.
5. To try to fix that, I tried to reinstal the version 6 BIOS. System would not install because was same verison! Then I tried to go back to a prior version of the BIOS (downloaded verison 5.5), but Toshiba BIOS update utility would not update version 6 with a prior version.
My questions at this point are:
1. How can I get a prior version of the BIOS installed, so I can then upgrade to the latest version again (to try to get the LAN adapter reset using the latest computer BIOS version)?
2. Is the LAN adapter chip an integral part of the motherboard on this computer, or can it be removed and replaced by taking the computer apart to get to the LAN adapter?
3. If the LAN adapter can be removed, how do I take the computer apart to get to the motherboard? Can somebody provide some instructions? I've taken other laptops apart and I know its a difficult job if you don't know the proper sequence of removal.
4. How can I poperly reflash the LAN eeprom if the BIOS upgrade don't handle it?
BTW, I don't think there is an overheating problem because the fan goes on and off normally.
Thanks for all the help. I really do appreciate it!

  • Satellite L650 PXE-E63:error while initializing the NIC - Start Up Error

I have a Satellite L650 which is 2 month old.
The motherboard makes a ticking noise (I think that is what is making the noise), and when this noise takes place it causes the computer to be very slow!! It has been this way since I pretty much got it.
Today, the computer made the noise, my itunes music started skipping (it was the only program running) and the computer froze, and told me it couldnt find windows. When I restart my computer it runs the windows 7 startup repair, finds nothing wrong, and restarts the computer. When the computer restarts, the screen stays black for a very long time....then it flashes a blue screen (the flash is so quick I have no idea what it says) and asks if I would like to run the repair again. I select no, start windows normally....and the screen goes black for a very long time, however their is no ticking noise, but it appears nothing is happening.
    If I force a restart, I get an error message saying along the lines of;
For Atheros PCIE Ethernet Controller... check cable connection
    PXE-E63:error while initializing the NIC
    PXE-MOF:exiting intel PXE ROM
No bootable device-insert boot disk and press eny key
    PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!

    hi,
    > The motherboard makes a ticking noise (I think that is what is making the noise), and when this noise takes place it causes the computer to be very slow!
the hard drive may do a clicking sound and also pxe error message can appear if hdd stop working. You can read it here:
    http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/ann.jspa?annID=8
what if you enter bios (f2 on startup) and check if hdd listed there. but anyway, you shouldn't be worry :) your lap is still new and under warranty. So, it will be fixed for free.

  • Satellite A105-S4014 and fingerpint problem

    Hello!
I have Satellite A105-S4014 (PSAA8U-O2200U) with Vista Ultimate and there is a fingerprint reader issue. When I try to enroll my fingerprints (UPEK) using Protector Suite 5.8.0 program freezes for a moment and then displays an error: An internal error occured (rpnpipe:rpnpipe: no-svr(00000001fusserver)).
    So fingerprint reader doesn't work.
I did a little search, tried the newest drivers and soft - nothing helps.
Also in BIOS I have TPM disabled (I can not change it) and I get a feeling that it is connected with my fingerprint reader issue (correct me if I'm mistaken).
I upgraded my BIOS to 6.0 before this issue. Then I found on one forum that downgrading BIOS may help to enable TPM. So I downgraded to 5.1. Nothing works. Also I know some manufacturers provide a BIOS setting that hides the TPM by default.
So can anyone help me to enable TPM in BIOS or better give advice to make fingerprint reader work?

If the BIOS dont provide any options to enable/disable the TPM then its not possible to enable this.
I dont understand why your previous software was newer than on support page I think you have mixed something
I see youve installed the Vista Ultimate OS.
_It would be interesting to know if the finger print would function with the original preinstalled Toshiba image._
If it would functions then your issue has nothing to do with the new BIOS update!!!
By the way; I used the search option called +Ask Iris+ and searched for the Toshiba Fingerprint Utility.
There are newer versions of Toshiba Fingerprint Utility but not for your series!!!

  • PXE-E61 error, but my HD is OK

My laptop is a Satellite A55-S306 which, until yesterday, has given little trouble in the past.  I have not added new hardware, nor have I modified the boot order.
I am getting a PXE-E61 Media Test Failure when I power up the machine.  It also says that the \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM file is missing or corrupted, but this message only appears after the PXE-E61 failure message.  The problem occurred while I was out of town and the system hibernated, but it probably came awake to service an automated JungleDisk backup.  When I returned, the system was powered up with the "SYSTEM file corrupted" message on the screen.
I don't remember with certainty how to get into the boot order menu, and have not been able to.  I am able to get into the pre-boot setup menu using Esc, and it has lots of options, not including boot order.  I have tried various F keys, including F2, F8, F10, F12, but these seem to do nothing.
In any case, I think the boot order is working, because I am able to load a CD and boot from it.
I have SeaTools on CD, and I used this to test the hard drive (long test).  It passed with no errors detected, so I believe that the disk drive is available and the formatting is OK.
I also have an Acronis recovery CD, with their Disk Director and backup applications on it.  Booting from this, I am able to see the C: partition on the hard drive.  Using the backup application, I am able to explore the various directories and they look normal.  I even commanded a full backup of the C: partition to an external USB drive, and this completed without error.
About the only thing I can think of is that there is a problem with the boot sector on the hard drive, or the Windows system files have been corrupted somehow.  I have not been able to command an fsck on the drive, because I don't have that on bootable CD and haven't been able to get far enough on the HD to do so.  I tried using Acronis restore to copy the old version of the SYSTEM file, but this failed with some wierd messsage.
I can restore C: with an Acronis full backup from last month (made with the Acronis bootable CD), but is there a way to avoid rolling back that far?  And I'm not positive even this will solve the problem.
    Suggestions would be appreciated!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Thank  you very much, anarchy_1024, for your advice -- it was most helpful.  Now for the rest of the story:
I attempted to restore the entire \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG folder from Acronis full backup, but it insisted (correctly) that the folder was corrupted.  So I went looking for a chkdsk that I could run from CD, since I could not get XP up to command it from there.
I ended up downloading and building an Ultimate Boot CD for Windows (UBCD4WIN), and ISO Recorder to allow me to burn the resulting ISO file to CD.  This took a while, but gave me an XP system on CD with lots of diagnostics, including chkdsk.
Using the A43 File Management Utility to view C:, a spot check revealed no problems *except* for the \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG folder, which couldn't be viewed because it was corrupted.  I ran chkdsk and it found several index errors and recovered 22 "orphaned" files, which appear to be the contents of the corrupted directory.  Finally, I ran MemTest86, which found no errors.  After all of this, I rebooted to the hard drive and it came up fine!  It has been an arduous odyssey, but the bottom line is that the system is recovered (crossing my fingers when I say that), and I did not have to fall back to a 3-week-old backup state.  I still have no idea what caused the folder to be corrupted, but it probably should reinforce the notion that one should run chkdsk on the system disk periodically.
One anomaly is that the PXE-E61 error is still there, but then XP boots up fine.  I expect this is because my boot device order includes some device, USB or CD, before the HD, which causes the error, but then the boot sequence finds the HD and all is well.  I just never noticed this error message before, since it never caused a problem.
At this point, I would recommend anyone build and keep a UBCD4WIN CD around, just in case.  I will mention 2 glitches in building it:
      1.  Like probably most consumers, my system didn't include a Windows Install CD.  BUT all the install files are on the hard drive, in C:\I386 (this is an old Compaq system).  All I had to do, in the UBCD4WIN build program, was to specify "C:\" as the Windows source directory, and all went well.
      2. My first build of UBCD4WIN was too big for a CD.  Since I didn't have a DVD burner handy, I did another build, disabling stuff I didn't plan on using (Firefox and Spyware software, mostly), bringing down the ISO size to under 600 MB, and that worked fine.  It is very easy to do consecutive builds, customizing between builds, since the builder stays up until you close it.

  • PXE-E61 error

I used live update3 to update my comp's bios. It said it was succesfully flashed but when it was restarted, it gave error message:
PXE-E61 Error,  Media Test Failure, check cables
    Exiting PXE-Rom
All cables should be fine, since I'vent opened case and computer worked fine for couple months. According to other messages in this forum, problem might be that bios cant find my bootup-hdd, which is seagate's sata in IDE third master. However, it's unclear how to fix this as originally it found that hdd just fine. And my mainboard is neo2 platinum 54G with 939 newcastle 3500+

The system cannot find the file specified
I have tried from so many forms. This is so frustrating. Thank for everyone/anyone who wants to help. So this is what happened: I had to uninstall my previous sqlserver 2012(which worked great) for some reason, and I uninstalled everything from that download.
Then I installed the trial edition of sql server 2012 (64 Bit) and It wouldn't connect to the database. (Error mentioned above.) My local DB is COWBOYS. (COWBOYS is also my computer name.) After this, I have tried downloading sqlexpress and sqlserver 64bit
many times and cannot connect to my local DB.
How do I connect to my Local DB?
Also, I think this might help: (When I run sqlserve.exe, which I was able to find in C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\110\LocalDB\Binn, I get an error: Your SQL server installation is either corrupt or has been tampered with(Error getting
instance ID from name). Please uninstall then re-run setup to correct this problem.
I would happily re install it, if it wasn't my 20th time.
I don't have any remote connections, I don't use username/password, only window authentication. I work mostly on visual studio, but without able to store /retrieve data, I don't know how to survive.
May be the solution is very simple, but I am too frustrated.
Some of the things I have tried:
From a command prompt, enter one of the following commands:
net start "SQL Server Agent (MSSQLSERVER)" OR
net start "SQL Server Agent(instancename)"(for instance)
on my sql configuration, I cannot start anything because there is nothing there to start. I can post more details, if that would help. Also, some more details about the error:

Any one that can help me, I will be greatful. Thank you so much. p.s. please ask me anything if you have any questions.

It sounds like there are a couple things going on here.  First check if you have a successful install of SQL Server, then we'll figure out the connection issues.
Can you launch SQL Server Configuration Manager and check for SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER) if default instance or SQL Server (other name) if you've configured your instance as a named instance.  Once you find this, make sure the service is started.
If not started, try to start it and see if it throws an error.  If you get an error, post the error message your hitting.  If the service starts, you can then launch SSMS and try to connect.  If you have a default instance, you can use the machine
name in the connection dialog.  Ex:  "COWBOYS" where Cowboys is the machine name.  However, if you named the SQL Server instance during install, you'll need to connect using the machine\instance format.  Ex:  COWBOYS\Romo (where Romo
is the instance name you set during install).
You can also look at the summary.txt file in the SQL Server setup error logs to see what happened on the most recent install.  Past install history is archived in the log folder if you need to dig those up to help troubleshoot, but the most
recent one may help get to the bottom of it if there is an issue with setup detecting a prior instance that needs to be repaired.

  • I just installed LV2011 and one dll from my vi won't load with the error "application configuration is incorrect"

I just installed LV2011 and one dll from my vi won't load with the error "application configuration is incorrect", which is Windows lingo for "missing package dependencies".  All the computers at my company with 2010 loaded seem to do OK.  When I do a Dependencies Walk I get missing Visual C debug dll's missing plus IEshims and wer which both have a whole tree of dependencies missing on my machine.  The Windows install is the same "Windows XP version 2002 Service Pack 3" on my PC and the working PC's. So I'm thinking I have to uninstall 2011 and go back to 2010.  Is this correct?  Those VC debug dll's were installed on the machines with 2010 in them but were not installed in mine.
I've heard the advice to recompile the dll with debug turned off but I don't have access to the source code.
    Thanks in advance.

    u87 wrote:
Thanks for the reply.  This at least tells me that going back to LV2010 is not likely to solve the problem.  The missing dll's are:
    MFC90D.dll
    MSVCR90D.dll
    IESHMS.dll
    WER.dll
And, once again, IESHMS and WER have other dependencies.  So perhaps i need to install the Visual C++ development environment.
IESHIMS.dll is an Internet Explorer DLL that gets usually delay loaded by shdocvw.dll. As delay load it can not cause DLL load errors but only runtime errors. Maybe your DLL has it as direct dependency but that is unlikely since it does not have a documented interface.
WER.dll is Windows error reporting for Vista/Win7.
MFC90D.dll is the Microsoft Foundation classes and MSVCR90D.dll is the MS C runtime library, both as debug variant.
So all the DLLs you mention are actually MS DLLs! You haven't identified the DLL that you try to access in LabVIEW that causes these error messages. IESHIMS and WER are usually delay loaded by any component that needs it and should not likely be used by non MS code.
What is the DLL you try to load into LabVIEW and by whom? Get the provider of that DLL to provide you a non Debug build of the DLL. Installing Visual C on all the machines just to make the DLL load is not a solution, besides that it is likely not legal since I doubt you have that many licenses.

Very Important, how much Free Space is on your Hard Drive first of all? Click on the Macintosh HD on the Desktop, then do a Get Info on it.
Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.
Do they launch OK while in Safe Mode?
