A11-ST3500 :: missing Win login dialog, jumping cursor, delayed file saves

Greetings. Lifelong HP user. Decided to try Toshiba for employee and myself.
Went online and configured Tecra A-11SP3500. Have had nothing but problems. Mainly after it goes to sleep mode, when I try to wake it, I get the background screen with no log in. Must take the battery out in order to reboot.
As has happened twice as I have been typing this so far, the cursor jumps all over the screen.
Both issues are common with both laptops purchased.
Then there is the lag when I attempt to save anything. "Save As" screen pops up, "Not Responding" pops to the top of the screen and 10-15 seconds later it will save.
I am running very little on the machine. Office 2010 and little else.
I have contacted support thrice. Had trouble locating model # as all that is on or in the unit is A-11 but all listings have a suffix afterward. Finally got support on third call, to help locate the support page and a model number via the s/n.
Reloaded OS once after initial install. Upgraded bios and drivers. All to no avail. Support seems to know or care very little about the product or problem.
Any suggestions are welcomed. I am a very disappointed customer and wish I had stuck with HP.

Have you tried calling back support (800-457-7777) after reloading the OS and updating the BIOS and drivers? If not, I recommend giving that a shot, along with looking for assistance from this user community.
If the Toshiba tech you speak with can't resolve the issue then they should either escalate your call to a higher-skilled agent or refer you to a repair center, if they determine that there is a hardware failure. Send me a Private Message with your name, phone number, and laptop's serial number if your call does not result in a suitable resolution.
I understand your disappointment but am renaming the Subject of this thread to something that describes the problems you're reporting, since that is much more likely to lead to finding help here in the forums.

hi!
i have a jsp that displays all the report names to the clients and when clicked on the report downloads an excel file and saves to the client machine.this is accomplished by calling a servlet that sets the content type as "application/octet-stream" and setting the header as "setHeader("Content-Disposition", "attachment; filename=myExcel.xls")
and writing the bytes to the excel file.works just perfect.
now if you open the excel file and make changes to it and try to save it with a different name by clicking 'save as' option from file menu, the 'save as file type' by default shows "text" instead of excel worksheet.
have you guys come across this problem anytime....
kindly let me know you have any suggestions ..

one more point:
the save as list box displays "myExcel.xls"(with quotes) where it should have displayed simply myExcel.

You have SCADS of extensions and the things running. McAfee, Intego, Orbicule, CleanMyMac, and others I've not ever even heard of. My first recommendation would be to remove all of these and see if things improve.

Lighdm login dialog maximized issue

The login dialog on my lightdm is maximised to whole screen ( I am using lightdm-gtk-greeter ). It's happening since I updated XFCE to 4.12.. I don't really know if it's related, but prior to that udpate, lightdm login dialog had normal size, I could see my background behind. Now I can only see the background after hiting Enter key to confirm login. I already tried to reset lightdm-gtk-greeter conf but this didn't fixed anything..
I have 2 monitors and when moving the mouse cursor between them, the login dialog switches monitor like excepted, but staying always maximized on active screen..
This issue is happening to my laptop too.. Made xfce 4.12 update and then same lightdm dialog issue..
Any idea ?

Yes I already tried to merge to changes and set a clean conf file, but it didn't changed anything, this does not seem to be caused by conf.
My lightdm-gtk-greeter.conf file contains :

How to change the message in the Missing Plug-in dialog?

when a doc is opened containg data from a missing plug-in.
I defined MissingPluginURLValue and MissingPluginAlertValue in ID.h
which are used in ExtraPluginInfo.
But there is nothing changed in the Missing Plug-in dialog.
Can someone help me?

Why does Thunderbird hang when a login dialog is open at the same time as a file save dialog?

This happens frequently. And if there is any open email I am composing at the same time, it is LOST. This appears to be a bug that would rarely trigger in the normal case, but I have several email accounts active at once and one of them sometimes throws up a login window. If I happen to simultaneously be trying to save an attachment, the save dialog pops up and neither "Save" nor "Cancel" buttons work anymore and it is impossible to get the login dialog to respond. Thunderbird cannot respond to window cycle requests, so I can't even get to the edit windows to screen-shot them. The only thing I can do is kill the process and lose everything.

However, while it may be a bug please try the following steps to make sure.
*Restart Thunderbird with add-ons disabled (Thunderbird Safe Mode). On the Help menu, click on "Restart with Add-ons Disabled". NAC Agent Login Dialog Not Appearing - ISE 1.1.1 issue ?

Agent Fails to Initiate Posture Assessment
The NAC agent is properly installed on a Windoes 7 , IE 9 machine, the certificates from ISE ADM PRI are installed in trustable certificate store in the client machine but is a selfsigned ISE certificate.
The reports / USER / Profiling report says the Provisioning Agent has completed the assessment ok.
The redirected URL is working fine (SEE Evidence)
We are always prompted to install the NAC agent again or looking at the additional prompted information wait for the NAC agent to load and complete.
The operations status remains with postering status pending forever and nothing else happens.
Symptoms or Issue
The agent login dialog box does not appear to the user following client provisioning.
Conditions Cisco Says this issue can generally take place during the posture assessment phase of any user
authentication session.
Cisco Advises as Possible Causes There are multiple possible causes for this type of issue. See the following
Resolution descriptions for details of what was already tested by us and please see the atached files for your switch configuration and evidences. .
CISCO SUGGESTED POSSIBLE CAUSES AND RESOLUTIONS
Resolution • Ensure that the agent is running on the client machine. ALL TESTED OK
• Ensure that the Cisco IOS release on the switch is equal to or more recent than
Cisco IOS Release 12.2.(53)SE. - OK
• Ensure that the discovery host address on the Cisco NAC agent or Mac OS X
agent is pointing to the Cisco ISE FQDN. (Right-click on the NAC agent icon,

CS4 - Missing buttons in dialog when saving as pdf

Hi Folks,
I'm wondering if anyone else has come across this problem, or perhaps it's just an issue with my installation. I get occassional strange issues when saving as pdf, though i think it happens in other cases too. In the dialog (after choosing the file name and clicking save), some of the buttons are missing (see attached file). The title bar is also sometimes missing the title, but in the attached file it isn't. Alt-tab functionality in windows is impaired when this is happening, I can't launch ctrl-alt-del, etc. Lots and lots of strange issues until i manage to kill illustrator and start again.
This doesn't only happen when i'm trying to save as pdf - sometimes it happens upon launch of illustrator.
anyone else have these crazy issues, or just me?

Thanks for your reply. I actually don't think the problem has anything to do with actually saving as a pdf per se, since it happens in other situations too. You'll notice that the Save buttons at the bottom were missing in the first image i posted. I'm posting another image of how the dialog *should* look.
Remember, there are also a myriad of other problems that come along when this happens, indicating a bad interaction with Windows somehow. Alt-tab functionality is messed up, i can't use ctrl-alt-del, i can't close the program, etc.

Hope all is well. I am trying to get rid of OR pre-populate with default values for System ( CMS) and Authentication boxes from QaaWS login dialog. I know you can do it in Desktoplauch and Adminlaunch ( Yes I am using BOXI R2 SP5) ...by modifying/editing web.xml deployment descriptor ....where would you do this for QaaWS login boxes ....DSWS application ?
BTW, my .SWF O/P doesn't reside in Infoview ans is out of BO environment. Also, I want users to login with there AD login....hence didn't want to embed credetials in XC.

Sorry I appreciate this is an old post, but I seem to be going around in circles.
I understand how to generate and pass the sessionID into a SWF, and I can see the QaaWSHeader.sessionID element in the QaaWS WISDL, but do you or anyone else know how to pass the session ID back using this element?
There are no obvious options when in Dashboard Design (Xcelsius) - I tried appending QaaWSHeader.sessionID to the URL call also with no succes (just seems to ignore it).
Does anyone know how this can be achieved.
My ultimate objective is a SWF hosted outside of Infoview that can consume and share the one session for multiple QaawS and OpenDoc calls.

Jumping cursor as I type

I just recieved my new PB today and havne't been able to use it because of the jumping cursor problem when I am trying to type. When I type my hands are elevated at about 1/2 an inch over the track pad. As I type in both Entourage and Word, my mouse will suddenly register a click and move my cursor to where ever my mouse is sitting, usually a few lines above. sometimes it will select the text to above the line and as I continue to type it will over write the content.
I have seen another posting about a similar problem with people clicking the trackpad. I'm not doing that, my hands are no where near the trackpad.
Anyone seen this behavior? Or more importantly, a solution?

This preference has been around for quite a while although the problem you are experiencing surfaced when Apple started making their own trackpad as opposed to buying Synaptics (I that's who they were from).
One option you have which will fix the problem is to attach a mouse. That way you can turn the trackpad off when you have the mouse attached. Otherwise, what you can also do is turn off trackpad clicking. Yes this does force you to use the clicker but will mean that the trackpad alone can't move your cursor.

Login dialog box pops up

I am currently using weblogic serve 5.1 sp9 and have a web app that specifies a
login page, and an error page if you make a mistake.
The problem I am having is that if you make an error logging in a popup login
dialog box appears, and you must click cancle to have the error page display.
I want to know why this dialog appears, and how to stop it.

Failed to call Engine.StartLoginLogoutCallback to display user login dialog in C# code

I'm upgrading our custom operator interface using C# running in NET 2.0. I use Microsoft Windows Forms controls for building GUI. TestStand version is 3.1. I grab TestStand Engine Class ActiveX Control from toolbox in to the form just as I did before in my VB project. In the project references list, AxTS and TS are added in. I can call TestStand API functions through the engine object, for example I can load sequence files, create property objects, get engine properties. But when I call engine's StartLoginLogoutCallback(false, true), the user login dialog is not displayed as expected. By tracing into UI message handler code, I do not see execution start and execution end UI message, which means the fontend callback sequence is not executed or is not executed properly. I doubt that calling engine's NewExecution in my code will also have problem though I haven't tested. Has anybody encountered same problem before? Thanks for any answer in advance.

I created a very simple C# Windows application with Visual Studio 2005. In the toolbox of the project I Selected "Choose Items..." context menu to display the "Choose Toolbox Items" dialog. In the "COM Components" tab of the dialog I selected "TestStand Engine Class" so that I got reference to the TestStand engine in my project. The project compiles OK, The method to login/logout is as following:

Catch HTTP code 401 and prevent standard login dialog

in my FLEX application I load some data from a Java servlet. I use URLRequest and URLLoader to load the data. The servlet requires basic authentication. I use a custom login dialog to get the users credentials. Everything works fine except when the user provides wrong credentials. Then the servlet returns HTTP code 401 and FLEX automatically shows a standard login dialog. I'd like to show a custom dialog instead. However I have not found a way to catch the 401 code and prevent the standard dialog from showing. Is there a solution for this?

Anyone have a simple example of a login dialog? (Java based)

I've seen a couple of examples of login dialogs that request username and password, but nothing that also asks for the database (probably needs to ask for host, port, and SID or Service). It would be super if it could look for TNS info (environment variable set) and create a pulldown list.
If anyone has an example, please point me to the URL.

When you create a JClient Form, you've got the option to generate a login dialog.
This does generate a username/password login dialog, but the code it generates, shows you hwo to use LoginStrategies.
This does give you access to every property used by the BC4J Connection pool, to find/create a BC4J connection.
Generate this login dialog, run it in the debugger and check out what comes in and what you can modify at runtime, before
BC4J estableshes a connection.

I am not able to login to my applet as the login dialog does not take the focu

In the login dialog of the applet it does allow the user to enter the password in to the field. Password field does not takes the focus. I tried with JTextfield and it is also having the same problem.

Every time Firefox opened

Can you use the Tab key?
