A1181 wont power on if battery is installed, a1181 wont power on if battery is installed

I have a 2006 Macbook Pro 13.
2.0GHZ Core 2 x86
2GBDDR2
500GB
I just purchased it and was told the Hard Drive and Battery were bad. I replaced the hard drive and it booted up so I ordered a new battery. Received the battery and installed it. It showed it was charging it without problem but then I hit the power button lights and screen flashed and then nothing. Took battery out and started right up. I then sent the battery back for another figuring a bad cell or some other defect was telling bios not to start up. Got the new battery and same problem. Instead of going thru hassel of trying to return it again I found a friend of a friend of a friend (yeah I know) who had a a1181 also so I tried his battery with same results. So my question is what would be the cause of this. I know logic board maybe at fault but I am hoping for the battery harness or something similar but I am at a loss right now on what to try next.

I can run for hours from the battery.  Start from the battery. Restart from sleep from the battery.
Only if I take the battery out then put it back in can I not start from the battery.

If you have records that show that you've taken your MacBook Pro in for a year to fix the machine, I would escalate the problem to Apple Customer Relations - unfortunately I don't have a number for Spain.
It would only seem logical to me that if you've been trying to have the machine repaired during the time that the 'recall' was in effect that you should be eligible for a new logic board. But only customer relations will be able to make that call.
Good luck - take the issue as high up the food chain as you can and see what happens.

  • Fried my battery with variable voltage charger... new battery; wont work

so i plugged my ipod into one of those cheesy charge anything car adapters when it was on the wrong voltage setting. only took a few seconds before my ipod died, permanently... so i ordered a replacement battery and installed it... but for some reason it wont take a charge when i plug it into my comp... i figured the new battery was faulty so i got sneaky and popped the case off my girlfriends ipod and plugged my battery into it and connected it to my computer, and the **** thing turned on... so after my new battery was charged i took it out of my girlfriends and put it back into mine and it turned on... i was stoked, until i plugged it into my comp it said "battery low please connect to power source", beeped at me a few times and shut off. the battery has a full charge but it wont connect thru the usb cord to my computer or a wall charger... why cant my ipod connect anymore did i fry some internal circuitry as well as the battery... please offer any advice you might have im stumped and i cant just pull the case of my girlfriends ipod everytime i need a charge.

I assume by wrong voltage setting, you mean you had it set too high? Was it connected to your iPod through a USB connection?

  • Leaving MacBook Battery in on constant AC power

I use my macbook everyday at home as my main computer and I have it plugged into A/C power 100% of the time. Is it alright to leave the batter in, or should I take it out? I have been told that leaving the battery in will cause it to die sooner, but I wanted to see what everyone else has to say about this.
    Thanks.

It is OK to leave your battery hooked to the charger most of the time. The only time I unhook mine from the charger is when I calibrate or for a few minutes to use in another room. You should calibrate every two months or so to keep the battery fully functioning. If you use your MacBook infrequently, it’s best to re-calibrate the battery at least once a month.
It is best not to use your battery unless you need to. Some people have hurt their batteries by charging then discharging every time they use the MacBook. This will age a battery very fast and cause you to buy a battery sooner than you should have too. Don't discharge the battery just because you used it. Li-Ion batteries prefer small charges over big ones. Use it and then plug it in as soon as you can. The only time my Battery is ever fully discharged is when I'm doing a calibration.

  • T500 battery not charging nor providing power to system.

    Hello,
I am new to this board and I thank everyone for your time and any recommendations you give me regarding this issue.
I have a Thinkpad T500 laptop that originally had a broken LCD. Prior to this issue the laptop worked great and the battery charged and worked normally on Vista 64bit. Removed covers and replaced LCD with a T500 LCD complete panel and that was it. LCD worked great, no issues. I decided to upgrade system to Windows 7 Ultimate (64bit) before testing or checking to see if system was working fine using battery only. I have performed all the updates available from Lenovo and Windows that apply to this system including bios upgrades.
The system detects the original lenovo battery (6cell) 95% battery life at 97% charge all information indicates that the battery is good and still has plenty of cycles to go before becoming useless. Battery would not charge either under bios, under Ubuntu or under Windows. I bought a new 3rd party battery to test if it was a bad battery. New 9cell battery get detected all information is as expected and the battery charge is at 55% charge and 99% life. I performed the same test to try to charge it, no luck.
Another issue is that the batteries have some charge in them but when I uplug the power supply the system just shuts down. I have removed the batteries with power on and reset them (everything behaves normal, like what you would expect). I have tried to turn on the system with just the battery but it does not work. The battery icon does not even come on. It is like the battery is not there. It only gets detected while plugged in. I even have tried removing the cmos battery to see if that worked. I have also tried uninstalling the Lenovo's Power Manager software and let Windows take over. I have also deleted Microsoft's ACPI - Compliant Control Method Battery as posted on other posts.
Does anybody know how to test the battery leads to the motherboard or has any other suggestions for this issue. It is a great machine and it would be a shame to not be able to use it as it was intended.
I thank you beforehand for your help and advice.
    Sincerely,
    Sergio037

    hey sergio037,
    welcome to the forums,
since you mention Ubuntu and Windows, i'm guessing your unit is under a dual-boot system.
would it be possible for you to have Windows only installed and then try again ?
try with and without the Power Manager installed.

Before you start, turn off the computer, or enter hibernation mode.
Close the computer display. Note: If you are using a PC Card, the computer may not be able to enter hibernation mode. If this happens, turn off the computer.
Disconnect the ac adapter and all cables from the computer.
Turn the computer over. Unlock the battery latch by sliding to the left.
Holding the latch in the unlocked position, remove the battery.
    Install a fully charged battery.
Slide the battery latch to the locked position.
Turn the computer over again. Connect the ac adapter and the cables to the computer.

  • Need help with battery on Macbook A1181.

I have a Macbook A1181, with removable battery. I just recently did a clean install, so not sure if I have to install anything for this and that's why it's causing problems?
When I plug in the adapter I get a quick blue light then it stays orange. When I'm logged on it says (not charging) next to the battery icon. Then under Condition it says: replace now. When I first turned it on after the install it had a X through the battery icon but then 5 or 6 updates installed and I restarted and it's now giving me this problem above. Hoping something maybe needs to be re installed or something? Thanks for any help. Never dealt with Mac so clueless.

You can get a new third party battery fairly cheap on eBay. Every MacBook from 2006 through Mid 2009 except the Late 2008 Aluminum Unibody and the Late 2009 and 2010 White Unibodies use the same A1185 battery.

  • Battery for my A1181

I bought a battery for my A1181, and it only has 70 cycles on it. It says "Replace Now". I bought it third party. Is it possible that they could have reset the cycle count?

The Macbook 13" came with a 60w adapter but you can also subsitite the 85w adapter as well.  Personally, I think my battery charges faster using the 85w adpater. Either one will work.

Help, I had aperture open and working on a image and did not have a battery in and bumped the power off. As a result it will not open my master, it is locked. when I try to open that Library  it says There was an error opening the database for the library. I have tried every thing. I updated the other libr but now it will not open the main to update. What do I do?

Try starting Aperture with the command and option keys held down.  You'll get 3 options.
Try each, starting at the top, in order, checking after each to see if it fixes the issue.

Disabling the computer's security software (firewall and antivirus) usually resolves that error.

    Hi, two ways...
Put the Install Disc in another Mac tathas Firewire, put the other Mac into Target mode...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1661
This turns the other Mac into a big Firewire DVD drive, then boot the MDD holding the Option Key, select the Install Disc in the other Mac to boot the MDD from.
    Or an external FW DVD...
