A3 and Panasonic Lumix LX3 - recommended

Hi there,
just for those who own a Lumix LX3: I am blown away by the results I get from the RAW-files in Aperture 3. Not only have they finally included RAW support for my little gem, the results easily beat those of Lightroom. Especially noise - which can be quite a pain also at low ISO - is handled far better by A3 in my opinion.
cheers

yes, I have noticed this as well. Been waiting for it to be supported for such a long time and am very very happy that it now is and is this good

  • Poor Panasonic Lumix LX3 RAW color in LR2.5

    Hello,
I just bought a Panasonic Lumix LX3.  I'm using Lightroom v2.5 to process the RAWs under Mac OS 10.6.2.  The color in the LX3 jpegs is very good/accurate, but when I open most RAWs it is taking me a lot of work to get accurate color, especially if there is any blue sky in them, as Lightroom seems to be rendering some colors incorrectly.  It's taking me way too much work to get my RAWs to look as good as the jpegs, which pretty much negates the RAW files' greater potential!  I have used Lightroom with my Canon 20D and never had this problem.  Also, with the LX3's supplied RAW software, SilkyPix, I don't have the RAW color issues.  I want to use Lightroom with my LX3's RAWs, but it is very frustrating.  Any thoughts or comments would be most helpful.
    Thanks,
    Greg

I have also had the same color rendering problems with LX3 and LR 2.4-2.6. The JPEG and initial preview looks fine, but the LR raw rendering just doesn't look good.
One solution I tried was to buy a Gretag Macbeth color checker (24 patch) and create a DNG profile for the LX3 using DNG Profile Editor from Adobe. This makes the color rednition significantly better, but the warm color spectrum is still a problem when it comes to high saturated areas.
I still haven't found what I'm looking for...
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    David

  • How can i use Nikon D 7100 and Panasonic Lumix DMC-LF1 with Photoshop CS 5 Camera Raw?

How can i use Nikon D 7100 and Panasonic Lumix DMC-LF1 with Photoshop CS 5 Camera Raw?

The one needs 7.4 (or better), the other 8.1, so Photoshop CS5 with ACR6 is not up to the task.
The free DNG Converter could be used to convert the RAW images to DNG which your version of ACR should be able to process.

  • Iphoto and panasonic lumix dmc-fz28 raw (.rw2) files support

It appears that iphoto or max osx does not currently support the panasonic lumix dmc-fz28's raw format (.rw2). Is this true? If so, does anyone know when support will be available? If it is supported today, how do you make it work?

Since even the most recent updates to iPhoto do not contain DMC-FZ28 importers for RAW, I use the free and EXCELLENT +RAW Photo Processor+ ( http://www.raw-photo-processor.com ).
For a donation (I gave $10) it will add the feature to open the converted image into the program of your choice. Of course I use iPhoto, which it automatically launches and then imports the image to it's database. Since it also has both batch capability and the ability to pick the image next to the last RAW image in the directory of your previous photo, it's great for importing large numbers of RAW images into iPhoto.
And the control it gives over your import is incredible, certainly on par with Adobe RAW.
I actually found the settings I like best and saved them as a profile for my camera (it works automatically for all Lumix cameras, but you can tweak them quite finely).
Another nice thing about this little app is it is both multicore and multiprocessor savvy. Since it allows you to pick apps to open the imported images in, there's no limit to the the programs you can chose to add to your drop-down list.
It solved the problem for me!

  • Panasonic Lumix LX3, shooting RAW with Film Modes

I've been shooting RAW+JPEG and testing Film Modes (for example B&W) and noticed that RAW images will import "tabula rasa" without any of the Film Mode settings applied. JPEGs are naturally as supposed.
I'm wondering if this is how it's supposed to work, as the RAW's first show a thumbail with Film Mode's settings, for example b&w first shows as b&w, but eventually Aperture processes a new thumbnail with standard raw settings. (I don't have previews on).
I know raw is raw and you can't shoot it b&w, but I can't help thinking if there are some in-camera RAW settings that Aperture just doesn't know how to read and pre-apply when it's imported.
The in-camera b&w settings would be nice starting point for further raw-editing in Aperture, but now one has to start from scratch.
Anyone know if this is how it works, maybe with other cameras too?

That's propably it. Only, I've read some reviews of LX3 that claim you can also shoot Film Modes in RAW. For example Mark Goldstein at photographyblog.com says:
"This [=film mode] applies to both JPEG and RAW files, so you can effectively shoot a black and white RAW file, for example, out of the camera if you wish (although I'm not sure why you'd want to...). "
This makes no sense to me as I believe you can only get one kind of RAW from a sensor, but it makes me wonder if there still should be a way to have some kind of B&W RAW straight from the camera and Aperture just doesn't know how to interpret it.
I also agree with Goldstein that I wouldn't want it to shoot b&w destructively, but rather as a non-destructive "layer".
Also the LX3 manual doesn't say a word that you couldn't use Film Modes when shooting RAW, and it's quite good at telling what is not applicable for certain modes.

  • RAW Photo Import from Panasonic Lumix

I reviewed this archived discussion thread iphoto and panasonic lumix dmc-fz28 raw (.rw2) files support and thought I found a solution, but the RPP app suggested still doesn't work.  My problem is that my MAC (OS 10.7.4) will not recognize my camera as a valid device.  It shows up momentarily in the finder, then disappears and give me the "...device was not ejected properly..." message...so, I can't even use the app to open the rw2 images!  Anyone have a suggestion?

That sounds like a faulty connection on the camera, mac or damaged cable.
Try a USB Card Reader in a different port with a different cable

Either use 'SYLKPIX Developer Studio SE' to develope the RAW files and to save them in another lossless format like TIFF, or try if Adobe's free DNG Coverter can convert your Lumix RAW files to dng. Then import the dngs. This way, your files will still be RAW files.  This works (most times) for my Lumix FZ28.

    Yes.
See that FAQ: Photoshop Elements FAQ List
    In that list you find:

Read the slightly newer topic by Pat Gilmour "Lumix DMC-LX1 RAW......" and you can see it is feasible, if not convenient. Note that for the LX2 you have to follow the instructions for the LX1 but write LX2 instead. It works a beauty for me

  • Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS50 camera profile

    I have a Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS50. I am running Lightroom 5 on a 27” Mac Retina 5k.
I got the Adobe DNG converter so I can load the raw files into Lightroom. The only camera profile available to me in Camera Calibration is Adobe Standard. Will a future Lightroom update include anything for my camera?
In the meantime, can you recommend preset settings that would better match my jpeg color and lighting?

  • Panasonic Lumix FZ1000 RAW files support in Lightroom 4

      http://blogs.adobe.com/lightroomjournal/2014/07/camera-raw-8-6-and-dng-converter-8-6-now-a vailable.html
The above says that Panasonic Lumix FZ1000 RAW files are supported in camera raw 8.6.  I specifically checked before buying the camera.  Everything I have ever read on the Adobe website for some 3+ years said that if a file in supported in Adobe Camera RAW, it is also supported in Lightroom.  Particularly, the above URL did NOT give any warning about the FZ10000 RAW files NOT being supported in Lightroom 4.  I went ahead and purchased the FZ1000, only to find I'm now having problem with Lightroom 4 not recognising the RAW files at all.  I'm really annoyed, as I was so careful to check the Adobe website first.  WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON WITH CAMERA RAW AND LIGHTROOM?????

I do appreciate the many RAW file formats being created by the camera manufacturers, as I have had varying cameras with the varying formats, and so am very aware of the whole business of making sure how those formats will fit into my software.  And, as already stated, appreciate Adobe's efforts to deal with all those formats.
This whole exercise has been upsetting, and there has been some good advice and info provided in this discussion.
And unfortunately, some input that has been a little too technical and not particularly helpful.  I feel that some of the input was a little too critical and didn't recognise that maybe some of us aren't so are highly involved and knowledgeable in Adobe products and the technicalities of how the software works, dot versioning of software, executable coding etc. because we don't need to, and shouldn't have to.  I have bothered to learn Lightroom well in terms of its functionality including matters raised by you (eg making LRoom edits visible in other software, knowing that LR is not making changes to the actual files, rather they are in sidecar or xmp files etc.).  I have bothered to learn a reasonable amount of computer-related info to understand things in plain English terms, such as "to have PShop and LRoom to recognise my RAW files, I need to have ACR.  To have them run on my PC, they must be compatible with Windows operating system version xxx.  For many people, this level of knowledge should be enough.
I have NOT said I expect Adobe to get advance copies of file formats from manufacturers;  I have NOT said that I expect Adobe to support every new camera model immediately.
The technicalities of the coding and whether Lightroom "uses" the ACR plug in or not is not quite so much the issue, and I don't find the statement that "Lightroom does not use the Camera Raw plug-in" helpful.  I don't think it's really right either.  Lightroom - one way or the other - DOES "USE" ACR as the ability of Lightroom to recognise files is very much dependent on the version of ACR that you have.  LRoom may not use the ACR plug in as PShop/Bridge in the exact same way (eg for the actual editing of files such as exposure, white balance etc.), but Lightroom DOES USE the ACR PLUG IN.... in regard to the file recognition issue.
And Yes....  I made a mistake.  Somehow, despite what I thought were good efforts to research the Lumix's support in PShop CS6, Bridge, ACR and Lroom 4, I got it wrong.  I will accept that it was my mistake and I'll accept my part in this, but I won't be made to feel that that it's been "totally" my fault, stupidity, whatever.
Thanks to all the people who have provided useful comment and input to my original question and subsequent responses throughout this discussion.  I will indeed now consider options like the DNG converter.  I was aware of the whole cloud thing, and had been thinking I would upgrade in perhaps a couple of years time (for both Pshop and LRoom) - I'll have to consider upgrading sooner rather than later.

  • Camera Raw update for Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ1000

    Hi.
I have Elements 11 and need to update it to open .raw files shot with the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ1000. I can't find the link where I can download the camera raw update.
    Can you please help me?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
The FZ1000 requires camera raw 8.6 which is NOT compatible with PSE 11.
You will need to upgrade to PSE 13 or use the DNG converter.

  • Why can't i open my Panasonic Lumix FZ45 RAW files in CS3?

why can't i open my RAW files?
    I have photoshop CS3 with camera raw plug-in 4.6.0.30 on MacBook Pro OS X Lion 10.7.5 (11G63) and a Panasonic Lumix FZ45
I have checked the list of supported cameras and mine appears to be there.
I have no available updates in photoshop so assume that I am up to date with those.
    Anyone have any ideas?
    thanks

I have checked the list of supported cameras and mine appears to be there.
Yes, the Panasonic FZ45 is listed but it was first supported by Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) 6.2.
    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
Then go to this table to see which versions of Photoshop are compatible with ACR 6.2: CS5 and later. Not CS3.
    http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/camera-raw-compatible-applications.html
So your options are to upgrade to CS6 or subscribe to CC (check out the Photoshop Photography Program: PS CC + Lightroom 5).
Or download the free DNG converter, convert all your FZ75 Raw files to DNGs then open the DNGs in CS3

  • Elements 11: Can't open raw files from Panasonic Lumix TZ60.  Will there be an update?

I have downloaded the Silkypix developer studio software that came with my camera (Mac Version) BUT my main camera is the Nikon D7100 and am used to using Raw in Photoshop elements 11.  Will there be a Raw update which includes Panasonic Lumix TZ60 or will I have to use different raw converters?  Thanks for your help.

The TZ60 needs the Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) plug-in version 8.4 or newer, which is only compatible with Elements 12, and only with OSX 10.7 or Windows 7 and newer.
If your computer and OS are new enough then you could upgrade to PSE12 and update PSE12 to use ACR 8.4 and be able to open the TZ60 raw files, but a new version of Elements usually comes out about this time every year, which means PSE13 is probably due out within a month so you might also wait a few weeks and upgrade to the newer version.
In the interim, again if your computer and OS are new enough, you can download the DNG Converter 8.4 or higher (usually you’d just get the newest version which is currently 8.6) and use it to create DNGs from your raw files and those will open in the older PSE11 ACR plug-in.
The DNG Converter is available, here:  http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates
And PSE12 is available, here:  http://www.adobe.com/downloads
