A3 Slideshow tool review

I just finished my first- almost all- Aperture slideshow.
I tried to do this slideshow using only Aperture- and I did come close- but there were a few things that sent me to other apps:
I had to use Motion to flash eight slides in four seconds because Aperture can't do more than one per second. I dropped that in as a video.
I had to use Quicktime to extract an audio clip- that I wanted to use in the credits- from a video clip.
I had to use Photoshop to make the credits because the typeface I wanted to use was unavailable in Aperture, and I didn't have time to go to Font Book and figure out why.
All in all, it did a good job for what it is, but I do have a wish list:
A timeline (unlikely since it's based on the previously good but now awful iMovie)
Ability to lockdown audio so one can't accidentally move it after the painful process of getting perfectly lined up.
Time markers so it's not so painful to get audio perfectly lined up.
Ability to extract audio from video so I don't have to go to quicktime.
indicator for if- and how many times- an image has been used like the book tool.
I know there's more, but I didn't make notes as I was working
here's what I ended up with:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZjHguDwjYqc&feature=channel

I just tried to replicate your problem but could not.
I have had other problems and tried the following methods to rectify them.
1) Deleted all the Aperture preferences. As a general rule, this often works.
2) If this did not work, I backed up my library, completely deleted Aperture and then re-installed A3 and the updates.
I used CleanApp to remove A3.

  • Can't see iTunes Music Library in Aperture slideshow tool!

    Hi everybody
I keep my iTunes Music Library on an external HD. Aperture Library is on a second external HD. Aperture doesn't show my playlists in the slideshow tool, therefore I can't play music to my slides.
How can I make Aperture show me the playlists?
I have the same problem with iPhoto.
    Thanks for your help, Rob

    Try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete the contents the following folder:
    User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.

Any other suggestions welcome as well.

I've tried that unsuccessfully Ann (downloading free samples).
But their preview video looks good and the price seems fair so I'll probably just buy them.

  • Needing help making a Slideshow in Premiere 7

Back in 2008 several contributors on this forum helped me make a slideshow using Photoshop Elements 6 and Premiere Elements 4, which I am forever grateful for. It was a long process as I had never made a slideshow before, but after much labor I created a wonderful slideshow of my Alaska photos with music. After a lot of reading I decided to upgrade to Elements and Premiere 7, which I was able to actually do for free.   I purchased the Muvipix.com Guide to Adobe Premiere Elements 7 as I was told this would be a great resource to help me out. Well, here I am two years later trying to make a slideshow again and still as confused as ever. I am trying to make the slideshow in Adobe Premiere Elements, as I was told last time it was easier to do it that way if I wanted to add music to it. I am just getting started and am already confused.
My first question is: Am I best off making the slide show in Premiere Elements rather than Photoshop Elements? I want to add music to it.
I have tried using both the book that came with the program and the Muvipix book and I am lost on step one.
In the Adobe manual it says to deselect the Show Video and Show Audio buttons. Why do I need to deselect these?
In the Muvipix book it tells me to select a number of clips amd then either right-click on them or click on the ">>" button to access the "Create Slideshow" too.  I can't find the ">>" button. How do I access the the "Create Slideshow" feature?
I have a question about the stills that show up in the panel. Many actual photos appear in this panel. However, there are also a large group of boxes with two swirling arrows, one green and one red. Why are they there rather than actual photos? I have tried double clicking on a few and they all bring up the same photo folder from "my pictures." I am confused.
Sorry if my questions seem very basic, but this is not what I do for a living. It is a once every couple of year hobby. Perhaps if I ever get it downpat I will do it more often.
Thanks for any help you can give me. I am sure I will need a little more handholding. I have been looking for the last two years for a class on this program. I know that is what I need. However, none have been available in my area.

Thanks for the response Steve. I am hoping it will be easier this time around.
"If you're seeing empty boxes with swirling arrows in them instead of your photos in the Project panel, it means that the program no longer has access to the photos -- either because they were moved or the device that they were on (your camera?) was disconnected from the computer. You really need to copy these photos to your computer's hard drive if you're going to use them in a project"
These photos were still on the harddrive. I checked in Photoshop Elements and they needed to get reconnected. Here is what I think happened. When I download my photos, they go into MY PICTURES. When I move them from where they automatically get placed by the program, into a folder of my choice, they seem to get "unconnected". I was able to reconnect them and now they appear in Premiere Elements. Thanks for the tip which actually led me to a solution.
"There are actually at least four different ways to make a slideshow in Premiere Elements and Photoshop Elements. Each has advantages. Which method are you using? (In all cases, as I say in my book, you should make sure your photos are sized to no larger than 1000x 750 pixels in size before you begin.)"
I am just starting and I was using Premiere Elements 7. I thought I was told back in 2008 on this forum it was easier to do it all in Premiere Elements if I wanted to add music rather than creating it in Photoshop Elements and then moving it to Premiere. As far as photo size, I am a real beginner here. I have no idea what size they are or where to look to find that out. All I know is that  my Alaska slideshow turned out great and did nothing about changing pixels. Where would I find out how to change pixel size?
"It sounds like you're using the Create Slideshow tool in the Project media panel. (As I say in Chapter 1, you'll only be able to see the >> menus if you go to the Window drop-down menu and select Show Docking Headers.) You can also access this tool by selecting all of the photos you want to include in the Project panel and right-clicking on them."
I did read about Show Docking Headers and did follow that instruction. That was the first thing I did, actually. However, when I am in Premiere ELements, I still don't see where I find the Create Slideshow tool that you mention on p. 59. I am a bit confused with this option. I can move the photos I want from the panel to the Timeline, but I am confused as to where the "Create Slideshow Tool" is located.
Thanks again for your help.I know I will get this done, just very slowly.

  • The slideshow feature in iPhoto: Can we record or create a file of it?

one month into my first Mac and I keep get blowing away by its features. Today I started using the iPhoto and imported all my pictures from my pc into it.
    WOW
from a dry, dumb, still pictures, using the iPhoto's slideshow tool, I can now have a slideshow so professional that it makes me look like a hot shot director... what with the music and all that as the slideshow runs.
    BUT
Can I convert the slideshow into a video file or something so I can upload it on my blog?
PLEASE PLEASE SAY IT IS POSSIBLE AND easy to do this...
(sorry for the caps... am too excited by seeing the slideshow effects in iPhoto)

That's very simple...Under "file" choose Export. Choose the resolution/screen size, hit ok. Save to your desktop or somewhere else, then hit export button. A Quicktime movie will be produced and you're set and ready to put this moviejust about anywhere. Good luck.

  • "Add Images" option not showing in Muse Slideshow

I've also tried > Edit > Place > (my images) and they aren't going in the slideshow.
And since the button to 'Add Images' is missing from the Composition Options for my slideshow I am unable to change the images.
    Help please? Many Thanks.

    Hi WebLadyKim,
It looks to me like you are using the wrong tool for creating Slideshows? I say that because as I see in your screenshot it says 'Composition Options' at the top of the dialog box. This tells me you are using the 'Composition' tools instead of the 'Slideshow tools.
You should see 'Slideshow Options' at the top instead if using the right tool.
If I am wrong, can you tell me what Slideshow from the panel you are using?

  • Creating photo slideshow in iMovie 09

    Hi guys,
I have been given the advice to create a photo slideshow in iMovie.
So far I have manage to sort out my photos and import them using iPhone and the Finder but am now up to the stage of putting the photos in the slide show.
There are quite a number of photos and I think by using the Ken Burns effect on every slide is a little overwhelming.
Is there any way I can use any of the other effects like just a simple fade-in?

AppleMan1958 gives you some good information. I have reviewed an earlier version of the slideshow feature of iPhoto on my website and have a short sample slideshow created using iPhoto.
Here is the link to my free photo slideshow software review of iPhoto.

I also provide information on creating a slideshow, choosing the music, etc.
    Good luck.

  • Slideshow image quality/color rendering

I´m quite frustrated after discovering that some of my images look quite poor displayed by the slideshow module. My situation ist as follows:
LR 5.2 running on Mac OS X 10.8.5, 1:1 previews are rendered, preview quality is set to high, and I´m using a sample image showing a dark cloudy sky with some fine gradients; my slideshow preset doesn´t use any borders as I read this often causes quality issues.
When I´m in the Develop module, there is no problem at all, even in fullscreen display mode on my 1920x1200 display the gradients are perfectly rendered.
In Library module, when displaying fullscreen, quality is okay, but I can see some slight difference compared to the Develop module - which I understand after reading that in Develop the output is based on the actual raw data, and in all the other modules on rendered previews.
Now, when in Slideshow module, the image quality is significantly lower than in Library and I see some quite obvious banding in the gradients. I don´t have problems with blocking artifacts but the banding/posterization is considerably worse compared to a JPEG export with a quality setting of, for example, 75.
I can´t imagine LR´s slideshow tool would be working with a lower color depth than the 8 bit as in standard JPEGs, right? Did I miss any of LR´s parameters that influence the image quality of Lightroom slideshows or of the previews used therefore? Otherwise do you have some other explanations or hints for me in order to get this fixed? We do everything to capture our images in the best possible quality so we should also be able to present them properly after all...
Thanks a lot for any advice!
    Toby

In-Lr slideshow images look like crap on my system too (dull contrast and de-saturated shifted color).
My guess is some issue with icc-profile/monitor-profile or something, but I'm not qualified for assessing.. - could just be a bug in Lr that only bites some, dunno...
I use ShowBiz instead, which works well on my Windows box, and it should also work on your Mac box.

  • Rotate in Slideshow

I'd like to be able to use an auto-advance slideshow for reviewing my
photos. I've got one set up, and from it I can add star ratings to the
images as I see them. However, the rotate keys don't work. Instead, they
rotate the currently selected picture (as opposed to the one currently
displayed in the slideshow). So I'd like to see one of the following:
    1. As the slideshow advances, auto-select the currently displayed image OR
    2. In slideshow, have the rotation keys rotate the displayed image, not the
    selected one.
    Rob Freundlich
"Males are biologically driven to hunt giraffes" - Newt Gingrich
"Some folks you don't have to satirize - you just quote 'em" - Tom Paxton

This has happened to me also - ONLY after upgrading to iLife '06. My camara is a Sony and doesn't have the option for auto-rotation enabled (doubt it even has such an option). I import into iPhoto '06 and manually rotate my profile images to their correct orientation. Playing the slideshow reveals them in landscape once more. If I use the rotation controls within the slideshow, this can be corrected - BUT if I close the slideshow and go back to iPhoto '06, the once correctly-oriented (before the slideshow) images now appear in landscape - in the OPPOSITE direction of their originally-imported landscape direction. So it looks like iPhoto '06 image orientation is not being relayed correctly to the slideshow.
Additionally, my settings for slideshow to NOT have music playing is not saved no matter how many times I revisit that option and click save after unchecking the "play music" box.
    Looking forward to iLife '06.01!

  • Slideshow with scrabbook (or any other themes)

The option to give each slide its own duration does not work!!! Even if we think of a slide as a group of slides - due to the template with i.e 3 photos - it will not adjust correctly...
This also means, that its not possible to work with videoclips inside a slideshow, since you can not control the duration you see, before the slideshow moves on. Sometime the slideshow will move on long before you clip has finished, other times the slideshow will halt/stop for a long time before it moves on.
I cant seem to find a system or structure in the way Iphoto behave.
Is there any work around ? My goal is to be able to control how long time i see a slide or at least a group of slides - and also to control the duration I see any given videoclip placed in a slideshow. (this will typically be short takes made on the photo camera)
    Thanks in advance
    Peter G. Larsen, Copenhagen

I would start with the basic, as Klaus suggests: trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    *What's the plist file?*
For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.
If that fails: As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?
However, iPhoto has a limited enough Slideshow Tool. It's good for simple, good-looking slideshows but if you want Fine Control you need a TimeLine of some sort and iPhoto doesn't have one.
    Alternatives to iPhoto's slideshow include:
iMovie, on every Mac sold, as is iDVD.
    Others, in order of price:
    PhotoPresenter $29
    PhotoToMovie $49.95
    PulpMotion $129
FotoMagico $29 (Home version) ($149 Pro version, which includes PhotoPresenter)
    Final Cut Express $199
It's difficult to compare these apps. They have differences in capability - some are driven off templates. some aren't. Some have a wider variety of transitions. Others will have excellent audio controls. It's worth checking them out to see what meets your needs.
However, there is no doubt that Final Cut Express is the most capable app of them all. You get what you pay for.

  • Why not add a "Save Slideshow" function?

I know there are a lot of Slideshow programs around, that maybe perform even better than the Bridge "Slideshow" tool, but this one is well there and the results are not too bad looking, so why no possibility to save the result in an ".exe"?

Doesn't Bridge Tools menu > Photoshop >"PDF Presentation" work for you?

  • Purchased Premiere 13. Won't burn dvd of slideshow created in elements 12.

I created a slideshow in Elements 12. Saved as WMV. Tried to burn DVD. Get message inviting me to try Premiere 13 trial. Have already purchased Premiere 13, but Elements 12 doesn't recognize that.
Tried opening Premier 13, importing my WMV from file. Go to create DVD. After seeming to go through the entire burn, I get a message that says something is stopping the complete burn. Provides a link that takes me to a page not available. Is there a way to get my Elements 12 to link to Premiere 13? What else can I try?

    susanK
If you have outputted your Elements Organizer 12 slideshow to obtain a wmv file saved to your computer hard drive, you should be
able to import that into Premiere Elements 13 Editor with the Editor's Add Media/Files and Folders and edit and export accordingly.
There is no integration between the Elements Organizer 12 Slideshow Editor and Premiere Elements 13/Elements Organizer 13.
However, you can convert the 12 catalog in 13. But 13 will require you to convert the slideshow in that catalog to its new format which
is significantly different from what you have used in 12.
Have you updated 13 to 13.1 yet. If you have, sounds like the program is using a new 13.1 feature which leaves you with .iso image file
if you hit burn to failure. You can take that .iso image file to DVD-VIDEO on DVD using a free program named ImgBurn.
You can also use Publish+Share/Disc/DVD  burn to Folder (4.7 GB) to obtain a saved folder containing the VIDEO_TS Folder that you can
get to DVD-VIDEO on DVD disc using the ImgBurn program.

The Flash Player 10.1 supports CS5, so  the flash slideshow or flash banner designed by CS3 or CS4 can not be loaded or played normally.
To load your flash slideshow into CS5 Flash Player 10.1 or future version, you need to  get a Flash Slideshow tool that supports CS Flash Player 10.1.
With such a Flash Slideshow tool (  http://flash.dvd-photo-slideshow.com/demoalbums01.php ) , you can load your flash slideshow  into Dreamweaver CS5 and upload it to web directory.  After you upload it to internet, it will play well on the CS5 Flash Player 10.1.
Also, if the Flash Slideshow tool will not run normally on your computer if it can not support CS5.  To Choose a good Flash Slideshow Software for yourself, you should have a try it  on your computer. And you also need to install  the CS5 Flash Player 10.1 on your PC at first.
