A30: Powering down during installation

I have a satallite a30 laptop and i have started to reinstall it, and it just powers down, i have to resart everything all over again, i am not getting any where with it,
I have checked for dust and build up, discharged the battery, long charged it etc and still nothing, please help.
Regards
Magi

Hi Magi,
I presume that you are trying to install your system from the recovery CD when the unit powers down.
This normally indicates that the restore process is having difficulty writing to your hard drive and as a result the unit powers off.
If you have access to a bootable CD with error checking utilities (such as Norton DiskDoctor or Ultimate Boot CD) then you can try scanning the hard drive for errors.

    Hmm, good luck then!
I'm pretty much exactly on the opposite side of the planet, but I've been to Vermont and remember its rural beauty well. However, I can't imagine you having the only Internet connection within a reasonable radius (where "neighbors" hanging off the same ISP don't count). Uh, that note only if your wired connection to the router produces no good result, either...

  • Time Capsule Shuts Down or Powers Down During or After Backup

Just started backing up my wife's MBP (Leopard) to our Time Capsule via Time Machine. Previously the Time Capsule had only been used as an Airport, and had never shut down by itself. Now, inexplicably, the Time Capsule powers itself down. If I stop backing up to it, it stays on. If I run Time Capsule, it powers down. Powers up again fine - unplug, wait 10 seconds, and it cycles to a green light. Then a few hours later, Time Capsule is discovered powered down. Its not the cats, not the dog - it seems to be whenever Time Machine runs.
Checked the firmware on the Time Capsule and upgraded it to the most current. Made no difference.
    What is going on?

So this just started happening to my Gen 1 500GB Time Capsule as well. I came across these articles:
    http://www.macgasm.net/2010/07/12/time-capsule-recalled/
    http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/blog/2010/jul/13/apple-time-capsule-failure -analysis
The second one claims that the shutdown is due to an "overheating fault in some of the electronics around the power supply." I am going to check the serial number on mine to see if it falls in the range for a recall-replacement (since I am way out of warranty).
Even if yours isn't in the recall range, is it possible it's damaged from prior overheating?

  • Powerbook G4 Powers Down during start up

    Hi There,
I have a 15" Alum. Powerbook G4, 1.5 GHz, with 1.5 GB of RAM. I shut down my computer last week and the next time I went to turn it on, it shut down during start up.
I can hear the computer working, the chime plays and then i hear the system power down. I did this 3 or so times before it booted all the way up. I shut it down a few days later and the same result. This time it took a couple more times to start it up. Today I shut it down and it took 15 times to get it to boot.
It's like trying to get an old car to turn over, but it just doesn't want to!
I have it started now, and I keep it in sleep mode. I'm backing everything up, but does anyone have a suggestion as to what I should do?
    Thanks,
    Lucas
    Powerbook G4 15   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

I would recommend to boot in safe mode.
    1) Wait for the startup sound
    2) Hold down shift for a while
You know you are in safe mode when the login window appears and above the user names there's a red text: Safe Mode.
Then restart. Safe mode does some HD checking/repairing so it takes a lot longer to boot up - that's normal, be patient.
On my Powerbook, whenever it crashes (not often) it won't start up at all unless I start it up first in safe mode.
Other than that, resetting the PRAM also often helps (reboot and hold down option-command-R-P, all 4 keys, wait for the boot jingle to ring a second time).

  • 17" early 2006 iMac powers down during startup

I am running 10.5.2 on an early 2006 1.86GHz Intel Core Duo 17" iMac (white), 160GB HD, 8x Superdrive, 2x1GB RAM.
1MB L2 Cache (from memory), bus speed 667 MHz (also from memory).
Latest BootROM (forget which one), checked for updates about a week ago.
Am, or rather was. It died this afternoon. I came back to it after lunch and the hard disk was making a distinctive pattern of clicks - a slow 1 - 2 - 3, which sounded like regular clicks and releases of a button, and then a short burst, followed by the 1 - 2 - 3 etc. The noises themselves weren't unusual, sounding just like ordinary disk access sounds, it was just the regular pattern that was distinctive, and the fact that none of my open apps were responding. I had been copying some files to the computer over the network and the copy had errored out with only a few files left to copy. Over the next 30-45 minutes I managed to force quit all the apps (about 7mins per program), but still couldn't shut down or restart, and ended up holding down the power button to switch the machine off.
I gave it half and hour's rest and powered it up, but it got stuck after the apple logo and the circle of spinning bars appeared (they were both still there). The hard disk made the distinctive pattern of sounds again.
The next time I started it, I tried zapping the PRAM, but the machine got to the same stage before powering itself down. Trying to boot into Safe mode or from my Leopard install DVD or in Target Disk Mode also failed. Every time, the Apple logo and the spinning circle of bars appeared, then the machine shut off, I presume before it can do any of those tasks.
I have tried taking each of the RAM modules out - same result.
I am not sure whether the problem is the hard disk, or the logic board or power supply, or something else entirely. I have heard on another forum that some iMacs went out with faulty capacitors on the logic boards and that you can check on Apple's website to see if your serial number falls into that range, but I can't find the page (search terms were intel imac logic board faulty capacitors power supply serial number, and variations thereof).
Recently I have installed several freeware and shareware apps from magazine DVDs, and had particular problems with Intego Fileguard. It creates 'safes' to encrypt folders you specify, though when I asked it to put my emails, pictures, movies and music in four separate safes they all became corrupted immediately. In the case of the pictures and music I lost most of the files (nearly all recoverable from backups/original CDs, thankfully!).
Also, just yesterday the machine had crashed after a restart, reaching the same point as it does now, but this time it didn't power off. When I powered it down and gave it a rest, it started up normally.
This is my first dead Mac, and I'm realising what a traumatic experience it can be. Help will be much appreciated!

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
I would reset the System Management Controler.

  • Satellite L350-20G powers down during boot up

My Satellite L350-20G starts to boot up and after 10 seconds powers off.
    Also it refuses to charge.
We have exchanged fully charged battery packs with an identical model and same problem.

I have the same problem with my Toshiba L series laptop
I check the output DC voltage of the battery, it reads 10.8 Volts, 4000mAh Model No. PA35346-1BA5
The DC output voltage of the AC/DC adapter, reads 19 volts at 3,95 amperes Model ADP-75SB BB
i think the adapter output voltage is not compatible with voltage requirement of battery of the laptop.
Please check your battery and ac/dc adapter ratings which affects the battery life, maybe there is an over voltage limit switch installed on the motherboard which keeps the unit turning off whenever the ac/dc adapter is connected due to higher voltage rating.
I think the allowable output voltage requirement of the AC/DC adapter should only be up to 12Volts DC to minimize the heat produced during charging period.

  • My hp envy want quit saying " do not power down during update" powered down 3 times and still saying

My hp envy want quit saying " Do not power down during update" powered down 3 already still saying the same thing.

so my printer worked for a month and then it asked me if i wanted to install updates. It's been installing updates for three weeks and says not to turn off. I've turned it off several times and unplugged it a few times.  No other buttons work on the screen because i can't get to them.  Obviously it's a software problem but i can't find any updates to fix it.  The guy on the help line said it's a hardware problem and that they'd offer me a $95 discount on a newer model, but it would still cost me over $150 and it would be a refurb. So they have a bunch of these printers that sat in a store that didn't sell and passing off printers not in a new box and then talk to me like i should be so thankful they gave me this wonderful discount for a "new" printer that nobody else wanted when i'm still stuck with a printer i paid full price for and should've been able to get replaced. Now i've really paid over $270 for a printer i'm not even sure i want that might have another bug they can't fix.  It's just wrong.  Anybody know a fix for this so i can cancel the order for a new printer i'm not sure i want?
    thanks,

i bought htc 8x verizon employee edition and when i update it and during installation with my error phone get off and now phone stuck on some wheel running thing and wont get on please tell me if i could download the rom or anything also

Hi mnomi! Sorry to learn of the trouble you're running into with your new phone! Have you already switched the device via your My Verizon : http://vz.to/16lkVUY Once you have done this, and verify the sim card is inserted securely, the activation will begin. If the phone is stuck on the wheel and you cannot move forward, you may want to do an alternative reset. Please follow the below instructions:
    1) Ensure the device is powered off.
    2) Press and hold the Volume Down button (located on the right edge) until instructed to release in step 4.
    3) Press and hold the Power button (located on the top-right edge) until the device vibrates (approximately 2 seconds) then release.
    4) When the restore screen appears (exclamation mark), release the Volume Down button.
    5) From the restore screen, press then release the following keys to initiate the reset process:
    1. Volume Up button
    2. Volume Down button
    3. Power button
    4. Volume Down button
*Allow several minutes for the process to complete (rotating gears appear on the display to indicate that the reset is in progress).
If you have any further questions or concerns, please let us know. Keep us posted if this resolves your concerns. Thanks!

  • Itunes 11.1.1 Errors occurred during installation...

Errors occurred during installation before Itunes could be configured. Your system has not been modified. To complete the installatoin, run the instaler again. Click Finish to exit the installer. I've tried re installing iTunes 11.1.1 multiple times and I've redownloaded the file. Has this happend to anyone? If so what was the resolution to fix it? Thank You [:

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

  • ITunes 11.1 - "Error occurred during installation"

Right. So, I updated my iPod to iOS 7, same as most everybody here and attempted to sync to my iTunes. However, I recieved a message saying that iTunes needed to be updated to 11.1 before I could even do that again. Simple enough, clicked on the "Search updates" under help, and set everything to install. When I got to the iTunes portion, however, everything closed out mid-updated. The window said "Installation Completed", but read that an error had occurred during installation. I tried to sync again, sure enough, no change.
So, I checked around the internet for answers. Saw a common reccomendation to uninstall the current iTunes and install a download directly from the website. So, I followed suit with the same procedure--and, sure enough, I recieved the exact same error.
I've tried to restart the computer and perform the install, scanned for any system errors, shut down and booted back up, used a secondary username, but nothing doing. Mind you, I'm not about to accept that I'm locked out of some of the most basic functions of something i paid two hundred and fifty dollars for. So, what needs to be done to fix this?

    Hello there, LandersmanIV.
Properly uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes can be a tricky venture. I would recommend reviewing the following Knowledge Base article for guidance:

If you're on Windows 7/8 there is a referral link at the beginning that you can click to follow.

  • "problem with shortcut/fatal error during installation" on other user accts

I-tunes installed and works with no problem in original user, but when another user account attempts to open Itunes, program attempts to install/configure again, then results in a "problem with shortcut / fatal error during installation" message. Setting the other users to administrators doesn't help, nor does un-installing/re-installing, etc. I am at least the 4th person with this problem (see Burthomp earlier today,Jan. 17 and Richard 1018 on Dec. 29). This problem started with Itunes 7.5, and is still a problem on Itunes 7.6. I have a standard Dell setup, Model E510. There must be a lot of people with this problem. Apple, are you working on this? Anyone else have a suggestion?

I ran into the same problem, but I think I have the solution. First, the problem isn't with iTunes, its an access problem with Windows XP. I tried to run the iTunes program from the Program Files, and I received an "Access Denied" error.
If you try to open the Program Files in My Computer\Local Disk(C:) and receive an "Access Denied" Error, that is why you are receiving a "shortcut problem/Fatal Error during installation".
Here is how I corrected it:
    1) Shut down the computer and restart it in "safe mode". I had to look up how to do this, but I pressed F8 when it was restarting and I highlighted the "safe mode" and started the machine. The icons will be large, but ignore it.
    2) Open a user that has administrative access -- I used the one user that has access to itunes.
    3) Go to My Computer\Local Disk (C:) and right click on the "Program Files" folder. Select "properties" at the bottom.
    4) Go to the Security Tab
    5) At the top you should see one or two users that have access to the Programs File. One will be the user that itunes works on. Click Add, then click Advanced, then click Find Now.
    6) At the bottom should appear a list of users. Select a user on which itunes doesn't work. Click Ok, then click OK again.
    7) Give that user full access to the Program File by putting a check mark in the Full Access box.
    8) Repeat for the remaining users.
    9) Restart computer in normal mode.
    10) Go into a user that had problems and click the itunes icon, and it should run.
It worked for me, I hope it works for you.

  • Itunes 7.6 installation Fatal Error during installation

I successfully installed Itunes into my account - as the administrator. However, my other computer users users can't install the new version. The get a window that pops up: Problem with shortcut, fatal error during installation. I have tried removing and re-installing, I even followed all the steps in the trouble article #93976. I also deleted the user, created a new on, made that user an adminstrator and still can't install. HELP!

I found on another post that concerns this same topic that someone has responded with the following solution:

OK, that is almost the latest version... .65 is later.
You can upgrade your AppWorld from using your BlackBerry browser to go to www.blackberry.com/appworld
After you upgrade, Do a simple reboot on the BlackBerry in this manner: With the BlackBerry device POWERED ON, remove the battery for a minute, and then reinsert the battery to reboot.
IF then you don't see or can't find the AppWorld icon, please post back here.

  • Errors encountered during installation(7)

When trying to install lightroom through creative cloud I get Installation Failed - Errors encountered during installation(7) - I have tried rebooting the machine logging in and out nothing helps ?

Hello all and thank you for the replies.  @Mylenium this is a new system  setup = windows 8.1 fully updated - hardware not so new but more that adequate -  i7 processor 3.2Mhz 16GB ram 2TB hdd 2 x Nvidia GTX 60's in SLi and Adobe apps was the first I installed , Bridge & Photoshop went through fine. The only error message was that one clicking  the link to get more info just took me to a generic help site.
Anyway last night I downloaded the trial version which came down fine and installed it without a glitch and after registering the software online it picked up that I was a CC user and automatically entered the license key so all is good.
