A305 - Sleep and Charge problems

I have a 2 week old Toshiba A305 satellite laptop.
Ever since I bought it from bestbuy, I could not get the sleep and charge feature to work.  I am trying to charge a Blackberry Pearl (cell phone) or a Sidekick LX (cell phone).  I tried it when the laptop was in sleep and even when shutdown.  Neither has worked.
I have already tried reading the PDF file about sleep and charge found here:
http://209.167.114.38/support/TechSupport/productcontents/tecra/PTM91C-TG109C/HAN-GM9024708110_E.pdf
 Still does not work.
I also tried changing the USB Sleep and charge mode between mode 1 and 2 and neither mode will fix it.
Can anybody help?

Satellite A305-S6905
I could not get the sleep and charge feature to work.
That may be a setting in the BIOS. Check it out.
Otherwise, upgrade the BIOS.

  • BIOS enter, usb sleep and charge

Hi guys! I have some problem with USB ports. I want to disable them when pc is in sleep, there is no utility to do it from windows 8, eco utily, hw config (in-bios setup), i cant see this setting anywhere. I also changed the power plan, but it neither works. So i wanted to acsess bios and set up it there. But in the morning, i was able to enter bios before windows starts, by pressing three key (F10+F11+F12 ) i ran boot order and clicked enter setup. USB sleep and charge was turned to disable, i said ok, i will try, i put pc to sleep, but my cooling pad still was cooling my pc and making noise , i went away for two hours, and i tried to access bios setup and try to change or check setting again, but now, i am not able to change BIOS setup by no key (i read that the needed key is F2 or F12) but i tried it at least 10 times with and withou Fn, also before a i pressed power on button, but i cant acsess bios setup. Can you help my with my general problem, to disable usb sleeps and charge in bios, or by ani in-windows toshiba utility? I cant find any utility for my toshiba laptop. Excuse my english

Windows 8.x does not shut down completely by default. (It hibernates the Windows kernel instead.) But you need it to do so in order to reach the UEFI (BIOS) on boot.
You can shut down completely by holding down the Shift key when you click Shut down.
When you Restart Windows, it shuts down completely.
This shortcut will shut down completely.
       shutdown /s /t 0
    This shortcut will restart Windows.
       shutdown /r /t 0
You can access the UEFI directly from Windows this way.

  • Toshiba USB Sleep and Charge causes s3 wake issues

    Toshiba Satellite P500-ST6844
    PSPGSU-0Q2012
    Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 x64
I have posted before about an issue with my laptop not waking from sleep properly, (see here)
    basically my problem is this:
I put the laptop to sleep and everything appears to go normally. but when i go to wake the system up, the Toshiba boot logo is shown, and i have lost my windows session. the system acts like it is cold booting, except for a 30 second pause following the boot logo. Just to be clear, once my windows is up and running again my session is not restored, so my system has not gone into hibernation.  this issue does not affect hibernation mode. Hibernation mode works perfectly. Only taking out the battery and unplugging the machine and then pressing the power button for 30 secs. seems to alleviate the issue. but the issue always seemed to return. after much trial and error, I have narrowed down the cause of the issue. if the Toshiba USB Sleep and charge feature is used, the sleep problem is triggered, even if the sleep and charge port is not being used. This issue occurs even in a clean state (clean from a factory restore using restore media). this sleep issue has been occurring since i bought the laptop in 2010, but it has been only in the last 2-3 months that i have been able to narrow down the exact trigger for the issue.
I have updated to the latest version of the sleep and charge app for my laptop, but this does not seem to help any. the issue does not seem to be triggered by just activating or deactivating the USB sleep and charge feature in bios, but using/configuring the sleep and charge feature using the Toshiba application in windows, does.
I don't know if this is indicative of a bios, software, utility, hardware, or power supply issue. I am hoping some one here might have an answer for me, or at least point me in the right direction on where i can go from here.

this behavior even occurs in a "factory fresh state" - (restored from OS recovery media). In that state, only toshiba stuff is installed..
Sounds like you found a bug.

  • Syncing and Charging Problem with 1st gen iPod nano

I purchased a 1st generation iPod nano via eBay about 3 months ago and have developed an interesting syncing and charging problem.  When I plug the nano to my iMac, frequently neither the computer nor iTunes will recognize it.  I have done "the five R's" with occasional success.  I've tried jiggling the cable in the computer port and sometimes it works in getting iTunes to recognize the nano, sometimes it doesn't.  Even when I am able to get iTunes to recognize the nano, I have frequently found that the nano hasn't charged up at all.  In fact, a couple of times I found it almost totally drained of power after having been connected to my computer.  Yes, I have the most recent version of iTunes installed on my iMac and my iMac, by the way, is relatively new - having been purchased in May of this year.  What is interesting is that I've taken my nano to work and it has absolutely no problem charging up on my Dell (yuk!).  For the record, I do not have iTunes installed on my work computer and I am not allowed to add any apps to my work computer without the consent of my supervisor.  The chances of getting iTunes installed on my Dell at work are pretty much nil.  Any suggestions on how I can fix the problem?

I bought a new USB dock connector and hoped, with fingers and toes crossed, that something positive would happen.  Sure enough, I was able to sync and recharge my old iPod nano.  I guess the original USB dock cable is on its last legs.  Not totally broken, but no longer reliable.  I consider my problem solved!    My thanks to everyone who took the time to read and try to solve my iPod problem.  I greatly appreciate it!

  • Cannot deactivate "Sleep and charge" option

I cannot deactivate the "Sleep and charge" option. I do not need it and it perturbs the functioning of my scanner. Apparently one should have two types of USB ports: ones with the "lightening" sign (used for the "Sleep..." options) and normal ones. I have on the left of my Satellite laptop two black ports and on the right two blue ports.
I cannot find the "lightening" sign anywhere and the Sleep ..." icon appears every time I plug in the scanner; this happens for all 4 ports. I have entered the "Sleep..." Set up menu and try to deactivate this option but it does not work. I have tried to uninstall the "Sleep..." option, but it does not appear on the list of programs one can uninstall.
One should be able to eliminate completely options that one does not need, but I cannot manage it.
    Dan

    Hi Dan
Sleep and charge option can be disabled in BIOS settings. Have you tried to do this already?

Are you still within the warranty ? If so send it back or buy a wall charger for it. The PSP (playstation portable) wall charger will work & is safe for the player using the Creative dongle .

  • Battery, Power, Deep Sleep and Spotlight problems after 10.9.4 update

Hi, I have a Macbook Pro 8,1 13in (Late 2011). I updated to the latest version of Mavericks (10.9.4) and iTunes on Sunday, right after that my macbook started to goes into Deep Sleep after closing the lid, even when the battery was 80% of charge. My battery normally lasts for almost 5 hours. After it went to deep sleep, the power bottom does not respond. Also, I have noticed that spotlight process in Monitor was consuming so huge amount of resources. This problem persists in Boot Camp. There is no way to turn the machine up without plugging it to the power cord. Sometimes it charges the battery as usual, sometimes it does not recognize the battery. Suddenly, the mac goes into sleep mode while I'm using it.
I have researching and troubleshooting in order to fix this but no solution. I have reset the PRAM and SMC. I made a backup of my files and installed Mavericks from the ground with external storage in order to erase the entire disk, no solution. I made an Internet Recovery and downgraded it to Lion, it worked for 2 hours and then I upgraded again to Mavericks (10.9.0) and the same problem came again, the upgraded to 10.9.4 and no solution at all.
I have searched on internet and there are other people experiencing this problem but nobody is able to bring a valid solution.

  • More iMac sleep and overheating problems - any ideas?

My iMac is about 2.5 years old now. It was working fine until the power supply had problems and was replaced under warranty. It then had could not mount DVDs or CDs and that was replaced under warranty, at the same time it was performing really, really slow, and then give me the spinning beachball for few hours straight before I had to turn off the machine by holding down the power button. The technician ignored that problem and I got my computer back partially fixed; the DVD drive was replaced and in his limited testing the computer did not lock up so he returned it to me.
After a few days of use I then took the computer back again and he agreed the motherboard had to be replaced.
While waiting for the motherboard to be replaced, I had extraordinary faith that my computer would come back in perfect working order: I ordered Leopard.
Before upgrading to Leopard I decided to back everything up using SuperDuper so I could restore if I had problems with the upgrade. As a new father I have tons of photos and my son's iWeb page that I could not risk losing. My previous hardware issues made me act more prudently; I was lucky to have done that.
Unfortunately the old motherboard was replaced with one that had more problems; after a few days of light use I upgraded to Leopard and was greeted with immediate kernel panics (grey screen of death). I restored from SuperDuper backup and tried again: same problem.
Since I have lots of stuff on my system I decided to do a clean install: problem solved. I then started importing and consolidating my iPhoto libraries from my old G4 tower and my old "backup" system. The machine would overheat go to sleep after only importing a few photos or give me the spinning beach ball while typing in mail (when it was the only program open).
After researching the situation one the internet I realized that many people have similar problems and I ended up installing "Temperature Monitor" to find out the temperature of my computer. The reported temperature of my computer is regularly hovering between 76 C - 85 C (169F - 185F). If the machine is idle the temperature is still very warm at 64 C (147F). I reset the SMU but that did not have an effect. I then found out the diagnostic test of the 4th LED that would turn on if the machine detected a heating problem. This test is intrinsically flawed since it can only be done with the case open so the heat can easily escape to the room (note both fans do work).
I then took the machine in to serviced again. The problem would be easily solved if I lived in the United States or Canada, but I live in El Salvador. The only Apple Certified Technician (at least for warranty repairs that I know of) may be a little tired of trying to fix my computer (I can sympathize with him as I am tired of having it needing to be fixed).
I dropped off the machine and 2 weeks later (I have learned to be patient for parts to come to this country) I called for an update. It turns out my computer is "fine". I went to pick it up and he performed the 4th LED test in an air conditioned room (with an open case obviously), copied a few files, opened some problems and it worked fine in his limited testing in an air conditioned building. He also said Leopard may have caused some problems.
I have no faith in that computer right now so everything I do is on my 8 year old G4 "Gigabit Ethernet" tower. I have upgraded the CPU twice from 400 MHz to 800 MHz and then to 1.3 GHz over the years and put in 768 Mb of ram (as an aside I just ordered 512 Mb more ram as it is now my primary computer to edit video).
I have videotaped the computer acting incredibly unresponsive and slow and am exporting it (currently 277 more minutes for 15 minute video) and overheating. It did not "sleep" when I had chance to tape it, may try again later (currently restoring 10.4.11 backup on iMac so technician cannot blame a clean install of Leopard).
I called AppleCare and they were supportive with my problems and I hope to take in the computer again soon.
    Exasperated in El Salvador . . .

Strongly suggest that you contact/call Customer Relations.
Relay to them what you stated in your post. With all those repairs, you may be entitled to a new iMac.
Sorry, I do not know the phone number of Customer Relations in your country. You may need to contact AppleCare & ask firmly & politely to be transferred to CR.
    Good luck!

  • Macbook Pro -- sleep and wakeup problems

If I fold the screen down when leaving my Macbook pro 8,1 (ML 8.1) and then open it again within a few minutes, it will not "wake up".  If I continuously open and close it, the small LED on the front goes bright when I close it and dim when I open it.  If I leave it closed for several minutes, it will usually wake up on opening, but not always.  This particular Mac did the same thing under 10.7 and 10.6.  I've heard of the same problem from others, and I have the same problem on a Macbook 2,1, although it is less frequent on that sysem.  This does not happen on my iMac or Mini.
Sleep also did not work properly on a G5 from 2005, and I was told by Apple technicians at the time that Apple "broke" sleep around then, and never got it working properly again.
So I'm not expecting a fix, but has anyone found a reliable workaround, other than leaving the system in "sleep" mode for several minutes?

In regards to the trackpsd, read this Apple support article:
    https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203171
Open up the MBP and inspect the battery.  It resides under the trackpad and if it has expanded, it will interfere with the trackpad,, If that is the case, replace the battery.
Also a very thorough cleaning of the trackpad will restore functionality.
In regards to the other issue, I suggest a reinstall of the OSX.
    Ciao.

    is that normal?
is it the problem with lid ?

  • Interesting Sleep and Wake problem

For about a month I have found that the Macbook pro (2008) Osx10.7 doesn't seem to sleep when the cover closed with the power cord attached. The sleep light doesn't pulsate and it remains warm. When i open it up the log in screen flashes on, then the screen goes dark and I can't log in. I found myself doing forced restarts - then i disconnected the power cord and the log in screen magically reappeared.
It seems I need to disconnect the power cord wehn closing the lid, and if I forget to do that I need to disconnect when reopening the lid in order to log in.
I have tried resetting all the power settings to default, but it still does that.
Not a major problem, but puzzling.

The problem isn't so much that it won't sleep or wake. It does seem to do both more or less, but that if the power cord is connected it doesn't fully sleep (the LED doesn't blink) and that waking results in the login screen flashing on momentarily followed by a black screen which requires either a forced reboot or simply unplugging the power cord. Once the power cord is unplugged then logging in is easy as the screen recovers.
My question is why is this happening? Some new feature of lion? It has only been going on a few weeks.
It was quite troublesome until I figured out I could resolve the problem by unplugging the power cord, but I remain mystified as to why it happens.

  • S2109 Rebooting and Charging Problems

Hi, I've had my Lenovo s2109 for 3 months now. Unfortunately, while I was out for almost a month, the battery drained. Now that I'm back, I went to charge my tablet but nothing happened. After some time I was able to make it turn on by plugging my USB cable on it. But It kept rebooting like crazy. It went until the lenovo logo and then it turned off and on again. After some research I was able to turn it on in e3 recovery mode. I then did a factory reset. I was able to get the tablet working, after setting up everything I noticed that the charging was not working well. If I removed my USB cable the tablet turned off, if I kept it, the tablet said Charging but it never raised, being always on 0%. My charger is working and it's passing energy correctly. The I tried factory reseting one more time and now I get the rebooting all over again. Can someone help with this issue? Is there a way to enter recovery mode and install the android system again from scratch from a downloadable source? Does the BOOT and KERNEL files lenovo provides can be used for something? Thanks

I had exactly the same problem. I'm going to use it through a few more charge cycles before I return it. Oddly, the problem seems to have improved with the last two full charges (drained battery to zero before each).

  • Sleep and Wake problems under Lion

    I installed Lion on a Early 2008 Mac Pro (MacPro3,1), 2x Quad-Core Xeon 2400 series @ 2.8GHz, 10GB RAM, 120GB OCZ Vertex2 SSD, GeForce 8800GT with dual 24" monitors setup.
I did a clean install of the OS from USB key.
I've run into the following problems so far :
    - When putting the system into sleep, it now takes more than 20 seconds for the fans to stop and for the system to finally enter sleep mode.
It took at worse 5 seconds under Snow Leopard for the same action.
    - If 'wake for ethernet network access' is checked under energy Saver, the mac will seem to wake from sleep when another computer requests access (AFP or SMB share)
but the graphics card fan will spin up to it's maximum rpm setting, creating a high-pitched noise, just like the first 5 seconds when cold-booting the system.
However, the system won't be available via the network until i press one of the keys on the keyboard (or click the mouse), just like if I woke the Mac manually by myself.
Pressing the key also makes the graphics card go back into normal rpm mode.
    - If the screens are already into sleep state (activated via ctrl-shift-eject),  you cannot put the Mac itself into sleep by pushing the power button.
Instead, the screens wake up and nothing happens, the mac won't go into sleep.  However, the Mac goes into sleep from normal screen activity.
    - When waking from sleep, i've got no network connectivity from Ethernet, although System Preferences shows the card as 'connected'.
I now have to restart the Mac to restore connectivity.
I have already reset the SMC and emptied the caches, but the symptoms are still here.  Snow Leopard had none of these problems.
Does anyone have the same problems ? Could a firmware update possibly fix these annoyances ?

I am having very similar sleep problems and have a few very clunky workarounds and observations.  Observations:  closing the clamshell on my MBPro will often fail to put the computer to sleep.  The LED stays solid and does not throb, the fan spins and the CPU stays active.  It will get hot if this happens for a while.  This is probably only happening with the power cord plugged in, though I'm not certain.  There are two "classes" of failure.  This is the first.  The other is the long wake-up: the power button will not wake the computer, nor will spacebar/return/escape hit repeatedly, until it decides its ready.  But there is another more puzzling failure:  clamshell closed, CUP running, I lift the screen and the login window flashes long enough for me to type my first characters, then the screen goes dark.  I close the clamshell and the CPU goes back on, the LED shines brightly, the screen goes dark (no glowing apple on top).  I lift and repeat.
I solved this issue by noticing that the screen would light up as I was closing the clamshell.  So now I close the screen to about 1 inch from full closure, and then pull it back up to see not the login window, but my desktop ready for work.  It seems like display, CPU, and power management are all out of sync.

  • Battery and charging problems.

So I have had my iPhone 3G for roughly a year now. I have started to notice that my battery is losing life quicker. Not only that, but last night my usb wall charger stopped working and I have to charge my phone through the computer, which I hate doing. Has any one else experienced these problems? If so, how did you fix them?

I followed the articles and advice on the troubleshooting tips on the apple.com website to help extend battery life. There are several settings that can be turned off. My problem is that my new phone battery is only lasting a few hours (and that's without use). I have had this problem now with 2 different iPhones - and the apple store has thought its been a "runaway app" as the usage time has been really high even when I haven't used the phone. So frustrating because my new phone does not have any apps loaded on it except for what came on it. I'm trying to figure out if I'm not charging it correctly (but it indicates that the battery is full!).
