A5200 has a bad Interface Board?

Sorry for the post about an old piece of kit.
I recently installed an A5200 with 22 FC drives and attached it to dual QLA2302 (I think) HBAs. All told everything works great, except port B0 on the A5200 will not show online.
The array is in split loop mode and the hope was to get 4Gb/s out of it through the four connections plus some redundancy.
The specs:
* Sun V40z
* OpenSolaris build 128a
* 2x QLA2302
* 4x 1Gb GBIC
* 22x 73GB ST373454FC
* 1x A5200
The A5200 shows B0 having zero nodes and the other three having 13 nodes.
I have tried the following and the problem stays with port B0:
* Swap fibre cables
* Swap GBICs
* Swap HBA ports
* Swap HBAs
* Reseat interface board
* Reseat GBIC
No matter what I do, port B0 will show a signal, but not online. Going into test -> debug -> 7 on the A5200, the "SOC HW Regs" screen, shows all working ports with an AL value of 0001, while port B0 cycles between 0080, 0800 and 0400.
The only thing I haven't swapped are the interface boards.
I have looked high and low in the documentation and cannot find the meaning of these "SOC HW Regs" values.
Do I have a bad interface board?
Any and all insight appreciated.
Sincerely,
Marty

I hate to reply to myself.
After reading the troubleshooting guide closer, I enabled auto-bypass and port B was disconnected from drive six on the front backplane.
A simple offline, remove, insert and online reset everything to it's regular state of happiness.
Now zpool is scrubbing a 22 disk RAIDZ3 stripe at 250 MB/s and I am much happier.
Hopefully this will help someone else save a little aggravation.

  • Will apple replace a faulty or bad logic board on my 2013 MacBook Pro?

    I have a late 2013 13" macbook pro that has been diagnosed, by a non apple provider, with a bad logic board.  The place where i took it suggested getting that confirmed with Apple.  I have an appointment tomorrow at my local apple dealer...
    but am worried that this practically new laptop is toast or going to be very costly since I don't have applecare!!  Any help for me????

    my late 2013 13" pro also has a bad logic board. The diag said it was a memory failure. I'm 3 months out of warranty and had it sent to the repair center for $280 plus tax. I don't feel like the logic board was defective I just didn't catch it in time. I tried a restore a few months ago and it worked better because i was in Yosemite beta since the developers beta and I thought the issues were because of the betas. It has constant panics and restarts but I was trying to get by until now it wouldn't turn on and disk utility said the hard drive was not mounted and it wouldn't let me restore It. maybe there are a few more people with problems then there should be so soon.

    Michel

    Hi, Michel. I suspect that whether or not Target Disk Mode works will depend on what the logic board's particular problem is. If it doesn't work, be sure to remind the user that removing the hard drive from the faulty Mac will allow her to extract any data she needs from it, by installing it in or connecting it to another Mac. In many models, removing a hard drive is easy.

  • How to I connect Sourcing digital output from My Interface Board to NI USB 6501 channel configured as Digital input

    When I connect an input to DI channel of USB 6501 card  from my board which has sourcing Output t, iIn the Off state it is not pulled down properly. The volatge on the port in is 2.1V -2.5V based on the pull down resistor on my board. I suspect that  it acts as a voltage divider.
    The state on the card is still show as "HIGH "state, even my sourcing output driver has a pull down  resister.  when I use this interface board for PCI mseries devices it works fine. Do the pull down resister on my sourcing output is not worth. Is this because of pull up resister 4.7k inside USB card 6501.
    USB 6501 specifications shows the Digital input accepts both source and sink modes. By default the card is in sourcing digital input mode. How do we can convert this in Sinkind digital input mode.
    Could anyone Please give your suggestions to overcome this issue .
    Thanks you.

    You really should not have both a pull up and pull down on the same line.  Really weird things can happen.  If you insist on having a pull down on your board, then I highly recommend putting a digital buffer chip between the DAQ and your board.
    Some boards with DIO have a pull up, while others have pull down.  You just have to watch the specs.

  • Power Mac G5 DP1.8GHz - Bad Logic Board or Power Management Issue?

    I have a Power Mac G5 DP1.8GHz/1.5GB/80GB which I bought non-working. It has not yet been disassembled or examined by a certified tech. This is it's issue (which replicates): the computer powers on. It makes a single warning tone, then the LED flashed at least 15 times (too fast to count). Then the posting chord is heard. Hard drive spins up. Then nothing (no video). Won’t boot from any disk. I have changed the RAM and tested the RAM banks with known-to-be-good RAM from another DP1.8GHz G5. The warning tone stopped once or twice after this switch, but then it didn’t chime. I changed the PRAM battery, but not with as new one. However, after installing the used one and then resetting the PMU, it displayed video briefly for the first time. While installed in the other 1.8GHz G5, the hard drive was formatted, given a clean install of OS X 10.4.11, and then moved into this computer where is never mounts. The computer is not accessible through TDM.
    Do I have a bad logic board? Bad CPUs? A power managment issue? A RAM issue?

    Through my own trial and error troubleshooting, I have found the CPUs to be in good working order and the logic board passes the Apple Service Diagnostic every time. Despite the installation of numerous pairs of modules that worked in another DP1.8GHz, the computer has a RAM issue-it gives the "no good RAM" tone most of the time when it powers up (after a PMU reset it does not). Also the computer boots from disk or into Open Firmware but the disk utility can't see either hard drive so I may have a bad SATA controller.

  • Powerbook G4 titanium bad logic board

    HELP, my second computer is a powerbook G4 15" and i have been told i have a bad logic board. is it worth replacing or should i put the $500 toward a new one? Also coould a bad logic board cause other problems in the future? what happens to make a bad logic board? what does a logic board do?
    thanks for all the info.
    Macbook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    Hi Tour Man,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
    Which model TiBook do you have? Especially if it's one of the earlier models (400-667VGA), I would certainly not spend $500 on it, as you would probably not be able to sell the entire machine for that price.
    If it's a later model (667DVI-1GHz), consider what you use it for (if you have it fixed, how long is it going to serve your needs?), the capacity of the HD, how much RAM you have, whether there's a wireless card or DVD burner, the condition of the battery, whether USB2 and the many other "updates" a new machine would offer are important to you, etc.
    It's not likely that a bad LB would cause other issues.
    A LB (same as "motherboard" in PC land), is a circuit board on which most of the essential elements of a PB are soldered (CPU, GPU, RAM slots, etc), so when any one of these has issues, the repair is to replace the entire LB (specialized equipment is needed to work on the micro-circuitry, so it isn't something a repair shop can repair).

  • How can you transfer files from an iMac with a bad logic board?

    This is in reference to my "Nothing but a blue screen at startup!" post. He took his iMac to an Apple authorized repair shop and he was told that the logic board was shot. He has decided to get a new iMac but he's wondering about all the photos and other files he has on the old hard drive. What are the ways that he can get files from the old hard drive on to his new one when he gets it? Thanks in advance for your help with this!
    Eric

    Hi Eric!
    roam's method is a very good one!
    I don't know if this will work because of the bad Logic Board, but another way, may be to use Firewire Target Disk Mode.
    The ailing iMac would have to be Firewire enabled, and you would need access to another Firewire Mac.
    Good Luck!

  • Using external monitor with a bad logic board???

    Can you use an external monitor on your ibook, if you have a bad logic board, to use it? Or is the only solution to use the shim, or get it fixed. Thanks.

    Hi, and welcome to Apple Discussions.
    If the graphics chip on the logic board has come loose, it won't drive the graphics to an external display, either. Sorry.

    my computer keyboard has a bad "M" key so I cannot login into my computer from boot     is there a way to bypass the login to reset my macbook pro

    Late reply, but if anyone is experiencing the same problem, I've found a solution. For whatever reason, some macbooks don't recognize usb flash drives during the boot-up phase, even though the usb ports themselves are powered (I tested this with a multimeter). The solution then, was to use an external USB hard drive that has its own power supply to install Snow Leopard. I don't know why, but it's the only way I got my macbook (Macbook 2,1/A1181) to recognize the install drive. Every was smooth sailing from there!

  • Can Apple replace my macbook pro (mid 2012) retina's battery if I think that the battery health has gone bad/in need of and renewal?

    Can Apple replace my macbook pro (mid 2012) retina's battery if I think that the battery health has gone bad/in need of and renewal???
    I've had my Macbook for about 11 months now and i use it every day; its gone though about 420 cycles of charging and using the power, and i noticed the battrey preformance has decreased (as expected). The problem isn't sevear yet but it would comfort me knowing that i could replace the battery in the near future
    Please contact me or answer the question if you know anything about this!

    No only if they think under warranty/AppleCare, but your likely able to pay for a new battery if they have them, which they might not yet since it's such a new machine still.
    BTW, I have a Early 2011 17" MBP, 27 months old, charges to 97% and has only 14 cycles.

  • Has adobe adopted the compound math feature like quark has in its interface.

    I am currently working with CS3. Has adobe adopted the compound math feature like quark has in its interface.
    For instance If I want to duplicate an item 29/6" vertically but I know that that step should be 1/8" short, in quark I can type 29/6-.125, or 29/6-1/8. Either method will give me 4.708333. Same issue when I just want to draw a box a specific size minus or plus 15/64 or an inch. Adobe forces me to look up the decimal equivalent before I enter it or I will get the message: "INVALID NUMERIC VALUE"
    This applies to all adobe products I use.
    This really slows production down and I hope CS5 allows this now.

    Seriously Bob, Seriously. Quark has had this feature for 20+ years.
    Quick, do the following, draw a box or a line or anything.
    Now move it to here.
    2.0416 in +3/64 -7pt -3in -9.7mm
    I can type this verbatim in qxd and end up with what I want, I CANNOT do this in any adobe product that I currently use.
    There is nothing wrong with my attitude, this is a feature that I use daily in my work and having indd and ill require me to look up decimal equivalents of inch fractions is not productive.
    If my priorities do not match your priorities why does that make mine a total mess?
    Oooh Gotchew on that one. Gotchew on that one. You have no answer for that.
    "Hard to believe all the cool stuff you still can't do with Quark, too."
    I don't like one app over another I use both daily but indd seems more stable. If you want to argue Toyota vs Chevy, go ahead. I think one software company should look at competing products and implement functionally positive features in their own.
    I suppose to carry my analogy further, Adobe may have added nice features like a sunroof, and power windows but has not added power steering like their competitor has had for 20+ years. I really don't use the "Cool Stuff" in the products I manufacture.
    I will waste no more time here and will simply flood the company with this feature request as I have been doing.

  • DV2000 has a bad hdd that won't power up

    This DV2000 i'm working on has a bad hdd that won't power up & used a usb device to clarify the issue.
    Shouldn't the system bootup to bio's even though the hdd is gone?
    Worked on alot of desktops & I know they should boot to bio's so you can set the hdd to auto.
    This thing now won't even bootup to the bio's, just a black screen with all light's lit up on keyboard & on front.
    It beeps 2 short beeps  (very low beeps). No loud annoying beeps like i've read on here & the support site.
    I'm pretty sure it's not a overheating gpu issue.
    Hooked it up to an external monitor & stll won't show a screen as long as I entered the right keys.
    Thank's for any comments you might have.

    First thing, see if it will boot into the Recovery Partition: Hold down Command R at restart.
    If it boots up there, then it's likely that the hard drive has failed, or simply doesn't have a working system.
    If it doesn't boot up there, then it's likely to be some other part of the hardware.
    If it is the hard drive, then this can be replaced. You can find videos showing you how to do this on sites like ifixit.com.
    Then you can just restore all your data from your backup. You do have a backup, right?

  • PXI 2532, TB 2641 - Need information on interface board solutions

    Hi.  I'm working on a project where I am going to be using a PXI-2532 and a TB-2641 to set up an 8 x 64 switch matrix.  I need an possible solutions for an interface board that will take the signals from the  3 ribbon cables from the TB-2641 and route them to either terminal blocks or some connector that I can then wire my measurment signals into. I was hoping to use a 90 pin femal Elco connector, but right now will look at any options.  Please let me know of any interface board solutions that are out there for me to look at.
    Thanks,
    Doug

    No problem Doug,
    The SCB-264x is just listed as an accessory right underneath all of the terminal blocks and with the cable options.  If you contact an NI sales representative when trying to configure a system, they will be able to help you pick all of the correct accessories you need.
    I will also recommend you check out our tutorial How to Connect Signals to the PXI/PXIe-2532 that walks through all of the components you'll have and the steps necessary to connect them in your system.

  • Bad interface error message

    I've written a vi (& built an executable) to run either continuously grab or snap images from a PCI 1424. The machine with the card in isn't the development machine an dis running imaq 2.1 with a very simple imaq configuration utility. This can be used to grab images.
    The application was built on labview 6.1 with MAX tells me imaq 2.5.2. If I try and run the application and grab images I get a bad interface error message, could this be caused by the vastly different versions of imaq and if so is installing 2.5.1 and upgrading both the development machine and deployment machine to 2.5.5 likely to solve the problem. Is this also an irreversible step incase it doesn't work.

    Having matching versions of IMAQ on both computers can be very helpful. I think it will solve your problem. You should be able to uninstall IMAQ and reinstall the old version if there are more problems.
    I would also advise uninstalling the old IMAQ before installing the new version.
