A55M-P33 no video

Greetings,
old MB died and replaced with A55M-P33.  put everything back together, no video and not a sound from that little speaker.
tried all the following, but no lucks...
tried to tap into BIOS
tried to resetted the BIOS
tried outside the case
Please help before i exchange for another board.
System is as follows:
CPU - AMD A6-3600 SERIES - AD3650WNZ436GX
MB - MSI A55M-P33 FM1, BIOS - unknown, serial # - 601-7786-020B1308100xxx
RAM - 4GB (2x4GB) PC3-10666
PS - Corsair CX600w

If board is not defective it supports A6-3600 out of the box.
Quote
RAM - 4GB (2x4GB) PC3-10666
Something isn't correct. Is it 2x2GB =4GB or 2x4GB = 8GB. In any case try with just one stick.
Were all components now in use already used before with the mainboard that died? If so how did you figure out just the old MB had been bad?

  • A55M-P33 - No Video, Nost POST Codes

    Hey there,
I'm having an issue with the board listed in the subject - I can't seem to get video working. Here are my complete specs:
    MSI A55M-P33
    AMD A8 3870k APU
    GSkill DDR3 1600 F3-12800CL9D-8GBXL
The numbers on the BIOS chip: 25032BVSIG 1229
Not sure what's going on - it also has issues when I plug in an external PCI graphics card (a working Radeon x850). When I remove the RAM, I receive 3 beeps upon powering on, letting me know the memory is bad. It exhibits the same behavior with a different 500W PSU, and after re-seating the CPU.
I think the problem may be related to RAM, but the 16GB variant of the RAM I have in the machine has been tested and is listed as OK on MSI's site - so it should work. I'm going to try to find some other RAM sticks to throw in there tomorrow, but would appreciate any advice anyone can offer!
Also, how does one update the BIOS when there is no video output?
Thanks in advance for any help you may be able to provide!

Yes, I agree that it's a cheap PSU. But, it was pulled from a working system and has enough power to easily handle this system. I also have a 500W Apevia PSU which shows the same issue, which I believe is due to the motherboard not working properly as I've tested the RAM in other machines and it is fine.
This is a budget board, and is cheaper than the 8GB of RAM I want to put into it - I'm not going to purchase a new PSU and new RAM just to SEE if that resolves the issue. It would be cheaper for me to just purchase a board by Asus, Gigabyte, ASRock, etc., than to buy all the parts to test this budget motherboard.
I purchased this board just over a year ago (the 15th of September, 2012) and just now unboxed and mounted it, so it may be out of the manufacturer's warranty. I guess I'm just stuck with a subpar project that I can either spend a lot of money on, or I can choose one of the more reputable motherboard manufacturer's that don't have ridiculous RAM limitations (no GSKill even though it's listed under the 'supported' section. Really?) and don't point out your other, working hardware as the faulty part.
Do you have any suggestions to help me get this board working, besides replacing every other component?
    Thanks for your advice!

  • Fm2-a55m-p33 driver problem? Game LoL looks bad

    Hello,
I'm a newbie in all this hardware, but i have a new computer with a fm2-a55m-p33 motherboard and a AMD A6 processor running Windows 7 64bit.
Normally this board has on bord video. And everything looks fine, but when i play the game LoL the graphics looks horrible.. some textures are missing etc..
When i look in het device manager, i see that the Display Adapter shows "ATI Radeon HD 7840M".
I have no video card installed, so its only the motherboard and a processor and ram. Is it normal that the display adapter shows radeon hd?
I have tried uninstalling the graphic drivers, and installed the new drivers from MSI website. But it seems there are 2 different drivers:
"AMD Chipset Driver"  from 3 weeks ago
"ATI System Drivers for Axx Series" from end 2012
When i install "ATI System Drivers for Axx Series" the device manager shows "standard vga adapter"
when i install "AMD Chipset Driver" i get the ATI Radeon 7840M adapter. Specially the M (stands for Mobile?) makes me think..
I see the latest VGA and RAID drivers are for Richland support, but i have no clue what that is
The shop i got this computer from installed it, so they probably installed the latest Richland drivers showing the Radeon 7840M
    So to recap:
What does the display adapter in device manager should show when using the on board vga?
So what drivers do i need?
And are these latest drivers causing the graphic problem in LoL, or how to fix it (main problem)?
    Thank you

the board has no onboard GPU so its using the mobile GPU core that's integrated into your AMD A-6 Processor so it will show what the APU has!
as for drivers i would suggest you use the AMD Catylist graphics drivers!
Richland is the code name for the AMD FX 6xxx skew processors like the A-10 6800K. but as yours is showing a 7840M then that is a codename Trinity APU which is a last gen one!
as for the graphics errors i would suspect that it doesn't like your current Graphics Driver but that's just a guess! <--- try the Catylist Drivers from AMD and see if it corrects the problem!

  • A55M-P33 and windows xp 32bit incompatibility issue ?

Ok I got a weird one that seems to be more of a compatibility issue than bad parts...
    Motherboard: A55M-P33 MS-7786 V1.0
    CPU: AMD A4 3400
    RAM: Kingston 4GB 10600  KVR1333D3N9/4G
HDD: Western Digital 500GB Caviar Blue WD5000AAKX
PSU: CoolerMaster Elite Power 400w  RS-400-PSAR
OS: Windows XP Home SP3 32bit
On a clean install of windows I am getting various bsods.  Typically after I install a few round of drivers.  Usually am able to get the dotnetframework + catalyst control center (chipset) drivers installed without incident.  Seemingly about the time I either install the NIC or the SOUND drivers do I start seeing problems.  Sometimes its 0x8e sometimes its 0x50 sometimes i dont get a bluescreen but on startup i get the infamous missing or corrupt /windows/system32/config/system ... I can always boot from a XP disc and run chkdsk /p to get it to startup, but soon thereafter the problem reoccurs (sometimes immediately with the next reboot).  I've tried to use 2 other hard drives, one a brand new WD 1TB, another is a used tester drive we have laying around here.. both have similar results.  I've tried to update the bios to the latest revision (1.4) but that didnt make a difference.
Here's the real kicker, I have another PC with almost IDENTICAL hardware (only difference is hard drive) (also of which I havnt spent nearly as much time with as this one) that gets a 0x0A bsod.  All the hardware in both PCs are brand new (unless where otherwise noted).
Is there some sort of compatibility issue with this hardware and windows xp?  I've let memtest86 run on both PCs for about 24 hours with 0 errors.  Diagnostic on all hard drives mentioned turns up no issues..  I've tried different (new) sata cables as well.  Any insight or any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

here is the latest minidump.  clean install of xp.  installed dotnetframework then chipset drivers - both from CD included with mobo.  restarted the pc about 5 times to get this to occur, happened on shut down.

  • A55M-P33 Blue Screen installing Windows XP?

    Very simple build:
    A55M-P33
    AMD A4-3400 Llano 2.7GHz Socket FM1 65W Dual-Core Desktop APU (CPU + GPU)
    G.SKILL Ares Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-1600C9D-8GAB
Kingston HyperX 3K SH103S3/90G 2.5" 90GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)
    Lite-On BD player
Nothing else in the system at all
I left all BIOS settings at their defaults, all I did was set the date and time.
SATA ports are set for IDE mode
I boot to the CD - Windows XP Home, an old CD with no service packs - and run setup. All seems to be working fine.
After the first auto reboot the Setup performs, it's continuing setup, it gets to the point where it's "Installing Devices", and BAM, the BSOD. IRQL not equal or some such nonsense.
    Additional info:
    - Win 7 installs and runs fine (but I need XP due to a particular very important app that only runs in XP)
    - Tried swapping out the SSD in favor of a Seagate 500GB SATA drive - got the exact same symptom
    - I an put an image of a working XP system onto the SSD, and it starts to boot, but then before it gets to the welcome screen it reboots, and is stuck in a never ending cycle
    - A repair installation of the aforementioned image appears to complete successfully, but the boot loop repeats
    - An attempt to boot into safe mode in the aforementioned image causes a hang while loading winnt\system32\drivers\agp440.sys (the image came from a system with agp video)
I'd just as soon do the clean install, as opposed to the image thing, but the BSOD issue prevents it
Any idea what I'm doing wrong?
Does anything in the BIOS need to be changed to install and run XP?
    Anything else I should try?
    Thanks

Using old images from totally different systems will in no case work. A fresh install should do with default settings. Maybe try with just one stick of ram first.
Thanks for the suggestion ... tried it, no change, still get the BSOD while "Installing Devices".
Grrr, this is aggravating. This should be very simple.
Just an FYI, I've had some success in the past with changing motherboards in existing systems without doing a clean install of Windows ... but yeah, it's hit or miss. Sometimes the Repair Install of XP turns a miss into a hit but not this time.

  • A55M-P33 Front Audio

I know there are lots of questions and answers on the front audio ports.   I just want to clarify some stuff.  I have the A55M-P33 motherboard which has the JAUD1 connector.  My case came with the HD and AC97 audio connectors.
I currently have the HD option connected to the JAUD1 pins on the motherboard.  If I decide to use that front audio port, is that the correct option to have connected to the motherboard?
And on another note, if I decide not to use the front audio ports, then is it okay to just disconnect that from the motherboard?

HD Audio is correct to have connected! (AC97 is a old type of connector and some cases have that just for if someone uses a old board that uses that)
If your just going to use the Rear outputs then its ok to not have the front audio plugged in as it will not be in use anyway!

  • A55M-P33, CPU fan not slowing down with Cool&Quiet

    Hi,
I recently build a computer with an A55M-P33 motherboard and A4-3400 CPU with stock fan. That CPU came from my computer and was working fine, the fan too and both throttled down with Cool&Quiet enabled.
On the A55M-P33, the CPU does throttle down (checked with CPU-Z), but the CPU-fan does not. It keeps spinning at full speed.
Did I miss a setting in the BIOS, besides the setting to enable Cool&Quiet, or is there something else going on? It's not a big issue though, just a little bit of extra noise, but I hate it when something does not work as it should.

Only solution to that is to determine if you even need the case fan. If you do, then perhaps you can parallel the case fan with the CPU fan if its PWM, else, look at an aftermarket fan controller.

A4-3400 is supported. It is also very well listed in the cpu support table:
Thank you.  When I did it last night, it wouldn't come up.

  • Win 7 Install Issues with A55M-P33

    Hi,
I have an A55m-P33 Mobo with an AMD A4 APU that a bought cheaply brand new with no OS.
I am trying to install my copy of Windows 7 Pro (I have x86 & x64) and all is well up until you select the HDD at which point it asks for a driver.
I have gone to the AMD website and downloaded the relevent driver (AMD SATA Controller), and setup recognises this as the correct driver but then says no devices were found!
Please, any help would be appreciated! Thanks in advance!

You don't need a driver for installing win7 on HDD. Are you trying to setup a RAID array?

  • A55M-P33 issue

    Hello all,
I am new user for MSI product. I have a A55M-P33 mainboard 7786 ver. 1, with AMD atlon Quad FM1 CPU.
After some boot, i change the primary vidoe to onboard videocard with "force" atribute. After save... the PC dont't start and have 6 long beep.
I try to clear the CMos but not results. Is a solution for this?
Thank you and sorry for my english.

that CPU has no IGPU so no wounder its not working and you have an error! <--- iGP (Intergrated Graphics Processor) wont work as the board has no GPU core on itself and relys on the CPU having one to be used!
perform a CMOS clear to reset it to default PEG mode >>Clear CMOS Guide<<
do not use the IGP option ever again as your board cant use that feature with the CPU you have!

  • AMD A6 3670K MSI A55M-P33 Video lines (random ) on display

I'm running the above using the on board graphics. 8G of RAM , with Windows 7/64. I'm having intermittent issues with the on chip video output. Spurious lines on the display. A learned electronics engineer says it's a timing problem. the hardware has been swapped twice with no improvement. System is believed to be running cool. I've checked the bios temperature measurement, this looks ok. The problem tends to occur after the machine has been on a good few hours. Any advice , has any body seen a similar effect?
RAM is Crucical ST51264BA1339.16FM. Bios settings (V1.7) are all defaults. The system supplier (Zoomstorm in the UK supplied without O/S) can't offer any specific settings advice.
Happy to provide further information. I've had one attempt to use a PCIE video card but bad luck dictated that Geforce card was faulty. If I were to attempt again can anybody recommend a robust simple card that will just work .
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Alan
Not sure if you received my previous email but thought that I would post here that I have finally solved the problem (hopefully!). The problem was with the chipset. The way to rectify it is to uninstall the AMD program package in Programs & Features in Windows 7. You then need to go on to the AMD website and download the package for your chipset. You then need to install the downloaded package.
I have tested the system for 48 hours by repeatedly playing a DVD and there have been no further spurious lines on the screen. Incidentally, the SM Bus Controller asks for a driver, which I could not find, but I have been assured that the computer will work fine without the driver.
I hope that this is of some use to you and to anyone else with a similar problem.
    Graham

When I first turned it on, it got no video, so I assumed it was that the BIOS is too old. I borrowed an external GPU, attached it and was able to get to BIOS. The BIOS version was V11.1, so the APU should work (according to the MSI website). In any case, I flashed it to V11.2 and still no changes. No video/post/bios/beeps when using the onboard graphics.
The BIOS displays the CPU name properly, even with the Radeon xxxxHD in the name, but when I go to the Integrated Graphics Devices Configuration in the BIOS, the only option there is Initiate Graphic Adapter set to PEG and it's grayed out, can't change it.
Not sure if it is relevant, but when removing the RAM it does not beep, neither with or without the external GPU.
Also I have noticed, that without RAM, when the fans speed up and then slow down, the power button has to be long pressed to turn off the PC. But when having the RAM and GPU, when it goes through the boots and sees that there is no OS, it displays a message and can be turned off by a short press on the power button. Same thing happens without the external GPU, but there is no video output, so I assume it does go through the boot process.
I've tried both the VGA and the DVI port, with cables and a monitor that works on another PC, I've also tried to clear the CMOS and flashed bios back to V11.1 (the one the motherboard came with).
I saw somewhere mentioned that the Initiate Graphic Adapter option can get disabled do to overclocking or some other BIOS settings (I have the default settings though). Is there anything I can try changing to enable it?
I am also thinking of installing on OS with the external GPU in it, and then maybe the video will output after it successfully boots.
I guess I could also try reseating the APU, but not sure if that would help.
    Thank you in advance!

    what external VGA you use?
can you boot when using onboard one ?
do you see anything on the screen?
    is there any beeps?
The external GPU I use is Asus GT 620.
I am not sure if I can boot with the onboard one, as nothing is displayed on the screen when using the onboard one. It might go through the boot process and stop when detecting that there is no OS installed yet. I'll try to see if it boots to LiveCD when I get home or install an OS using the external GPU.
When using the onboard GPU, I do not see anything on the screen.
    There are no beeps.

  • A55M-P33 - Win 7 Pro x64 - 8.00GB (3.49 GB usable)

    Hello!
After a few hours of google searching i've decided to ask for help.
Search of this forum did yeald one post similar to mine: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=161010.msg1180013
    But there was no solution.
    Problem is very weird.
Win 7 Pro x64 with 8 GB of RAM but only 3,49 usable.
Memtest and Ubuntu see's only 3,49 GB, so it's not an OS issue.
But BIOS detects all 8GB, so it's not a defected module. At least it shouldn't be, it a new rig with no other problems.
I guess that integrated graphic reserves that memory, but any options regarding this don't have any effect on 3.49 GB usable.
Although graphic driver in windows says graphic memory is 2GB (see the first pic)
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

There are only two memory slots. Both filled by 4GB Patriot modules.
I should not open case because is under warranty so i guess i'll contact the store who sold me the computer.
Wanted to know if that is some kind of feature before i return it to a store.
Could not believe and thought that Svet was joking when he recomended to check for bent pins (https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=161010.msg1180051#msg1180051)
For all the years that i worked with computers i never saw a CPU with bent pins or any other kind of damage to boot the OS and work "just fine".
The only problem that this computer has is it doesn't utilize all the memory.

I spent a bunch of time setting up a browse sequence in HTML Help but to no avail. Although the docs don't say it, I believe that you can't have browse sequences in CHM files. Am I right?
