It sounds like the cable that connects to your lcd display is loose, or damaged.
Theres good news and bad news..
bad news = you are going to have to send your computer back
good news = its gonna be covered under warrenty ( it should be atleast).
Call apple before you send it in just to make sure

  • Display, Backlight & OS issue

    Hi all,
So, I opened my Macbook Pro 13" Late 2011 this morning to find the screen behaving strangely.  There was a blue tint spreading from the left side, like ghosting, but more streaky.
Anyway, first thing I tried was to shut down the Mac and start from a fresh boot rather than from Sleep.
I power up and the screen doesn't even switch on. No flicker, no power.  Also, strangely, the keyboard backlight doesn't work either.
PRAM reset and SMC reset both tried - both didn't change anything.
So, I plugged the Mac into an external display and that functions okay - albeit the O/S refuses to boot because of a permissions error that cannot be fixed using Disk Utility.
I'm in Single User mode copying my data manually to an external hdd ready to reinstall Mavericks.
    My question, ultimately, is three-fold.
    1. Are the LED display backlight and keyboard backlight linked in any way by hardware that could have failed?
    2. Is this hardware part of the logic board or can it be replaced separately?
    3. Would the issue with disk permissions be linked to the display problem and could a reinstall of Mac OS fix the display issue???
Any more info you need, i will be glad to provide. Bear in mind I do not have a functioning OS to give logs etc.
    Thanks,
    James

You should do what's easy for you. Amazon or service center.
A product is replaced withint the first 7 days of purchase if proved defected.
You have warranty, so you should probably go to Sony service center and see what they say. Most probably you won't need to contact Amazon. While the Amazon deal is good as well. Get the money back and buy the SW from Sony center.

  • Why won't my display backlight come on?

I have a unibody MacBook Pro purchased in late 2009.
Sometimes when I wake up my laptop I can see that the display has come on but the backlight that makes the display bright is not on.  On other words, the screen is completely dark, but under the right lighting I can see that the LCD itself is on (windows are up, the cursor is moving around the screen) but there is no light making it all bright (i.e., the display backlight is off).  When I put it to sleep and wait for the indicator light to start pulsing and then wake it up again it will off then come on, but of course I shouldn't have to do that.
Perhaps related or unrelated is my keyboard backlight also doesn't work.  I can turn the brightness up and down using the F5 and F6 keys and the indicator will come up on the screen showing the brightness going up and down, but the keys themselves are not lit at all.
Was there a recall sent out about this issue?  I do have AppleCare.
    Thanks.

I have the same thing, not only my current Retina MacBookPro (Mountain Lion) but on my previous 2008 MacBook black (Lion). I find it very odd that I'd have the exact same issue on two different computers; there must have been a setting on the old one that got migrated to the new one somehow?

  • PowerTOP: 2x Display backlight

    Hi there,
On my Thinkpad X200T,PowerTOP shows me 2x power consumption for Display backlight.
    See this screenshot: http://i.imgur.com/mP0H6hX.png
    How should I interpret this?
Does my display use 4W in total or do I have indeed two different display backlights due to the tablet functionality of my thinkpad?
Or does PowerTOP interpret the display backlight twice because I have acpi_video0 and intel_backlight in /sys/class/backlight?
    ~ ls /sys/class/backlight
    lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 0 2014-04-02 19:18:40.580222111 +0200 acpi_video0 -> ../../devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:02.0/backlight/acpi_video0
    lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 0 2014-04-02 19:41:48.878394230 +0200 intel_backlight -> ../../devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:02.0/drm/card0/card0-LVDS-1/intel_backlight
Is the double entry intended or should there be only one?
    Thanks!

Yes thats what the man page says
    # systemctl mask systemd-backlight@backlight:acpi_video0.service
will disable the service and result in a 100% backlight setting with no adjustment possible...
    I think both are needed
    EDIT: right I've just tried
    # systemctl mask systemd-backlight@backlight:intel_backlight.service
and now my backlight setting is remembered and adjustable --- maybe this .service isn't needed. My powertop doesn't show actual wattage dissipation for some reason so maybe you could try this & report back on any changes in power consumption?
However, the systemctl man page does say to use the "mask" option "with care"...

  • Display backlight correctly off, but LCD not shut down

Hi, I have a small problem with the 3g. Sometimes after the phone has been in standby for some time I find the LCD on, even if the backlight is correctly off. I wasn't able to correlate the problem with any other app or action.
With "LCD on" I mean that I can see the difference in color between the active area of the pixel and the thin area beween the pixels and external black area (black painted glass I supppose). Th LCD does not display anything particular, just uniform black or with some stripes.
Pressing the home button has always led to the normal iPhone OS, no special problems.
    Is the problem known?
I simply would like to have my phone in optimal conditions.
No warranty left, never jailbreaked, no operator lock since the factory.

    Sorry,
I did not make my point correctly. I can always see the three regions: pixel area, inactive region, black opaque region (the painted glass). The problem is that after putting the iPhone in standby I see the active pixel region correctly off: it can be identified, but it similar to the inactive one. When the problem shows up I can clearly see the active region more opaque, as it were on but displaying a uniform black. Th fact that is on is confirmed by the stripes I see sometimes: how could they appear, if the LCD were switched off?

  • 24" iMac Display Backlight Failure

This afternoon, an issue developed on my iMac 24" (Mid-2007) where the top half of my display seemed like it flickered and burned out.  What it looks like currently is a very dramatic gradient from dark to light.  I haven't found any support documents or discussions that address an issue like this.
I tried restarting my computer and to no avail, the problem persists.  Also tried resetting the SMC and booting from the Install CD, and this did not fix the problem either.  The basic Apple Hardware Test did not identify anything wrong (I did not do the extended test).
I am suspecting that the backlight in my display is failing.  I wanted to see if anyone else encountered this issue and any thoughts about what could possibly be wrong.  I am afraid that my iMac might be Genius Bar bound if no solution exists.    I'm scared of what the repair costs might be...
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks,
    Maikeru-san

I experienced the same issue. When I don't use the iMac 27" and it automatically powers down I hear this ticking clock noise.
    Troubleshooting Questions to Apple Support:
    1) Is this automatic standby the same mode like manual standby mode?
    2) it's not a display pitch sound but rather a HDD heads parking sound
    3) Is this a hardware defect or a software issue?
My iMac is 48hours old and I bought it brand new directly from Apple.

  • HT4279 cinema display backlight repair

I have a 27" display that the backlight seems to be failing on.  Some mornings the display comes on just fine but others it either fails to come on or it comes on very dimly.  I suspect the LED backlight may be on the verge of failure but was wondering if anyone had any experience with Apple repairing these (including some estimate of cost?).  If you power off the monitor and restore power, it comes up fine nearly every time.  Have not upgraded to Yosemite on this computer yet due to issues (Safari crashes) on the newer version.  I would be willing to repair the monitor myself but if it's not about 1/2 the cost of a new monitor I would probably just have Apple do the repair.

Since you confirmed that it is not the Mac. I requested that your posted be moved to the Cinema Display forum

Backlight of my display flickers and goes off after some time...
Moreover is there any solution to overclock to overclock CPU

    Hi-
Try switching the power adapters to see if the problem moves to the other display.
Of course, reconnecting/double checking all connections is a good idea.
Other than that, any references in Console/Logs regarding graphics driver errors?

  • E71x blank display, backlight keeps blinking on an...

I've had my E71x for a week and have not had any problems until now.  While trying to power the phone on, all I get is a blank display and then the backlight just blinks on and off.
The battery was fully charged when I turned the phone off.  I've tried removing the battery and putting it back in.  I've also tried the reset by holding the green call button and 3*.  Nothing has worked.
    Thanks in advance

  • Satellite C660d-A2k - How to increase display backlight using battery mode

I bought a new laptop, installed all the drivers and it works.
How to turn on the backlight?
It only works when I charge the laptop. turn off when it goes off.
If add the screen brightness to maximum and turn charging the screen becomes even brighter.
How to make led lights fixed, I have it switched on only when charging.

    Hi
The display brightness can be changed using the key combination FN + F6 (increase) and FN + F7 (decrease).
Did you read the user manual? This is mentioned in the manual preinstalled on the notebook.
Furthermore you should also check the Win 7 Power Options.
You can find this in control panel -> power options.
I assume the notebook switches to another battery optimized power plant while you disconnect the AC adaptor. In such case the display brightness goes down to ensure longer battery working time. You can change the brightness level for this power plant too.

  • Macbook Pro Uneven display backlight

    Hi
I would like to know if uneven backlight on my macbook pro is covered by warranty
it was hard to get a good picture but,
    http://the.cave.in.googlepages.com/uneven_backlight.jpg
    sometimes its even worese
the display also flickers sometimes very lighyly (at 50hz etc.)
    also
is there a good reason that while probing apples site
i could not find a single support e-mail address ?
    cheers.

If the screen lighting is as bad as the photo seems to demonstrate, then yes, it's definitely a problem that would be covered by warranty. The screen should never actually flicker, though, since an LCD is refreshing pixel-by-pixel at 60hz, perhaps your brightness settings keep changing? If not, then it could even be the inverter (if you're using one of the CFL (pre-Santa Rosa) models). Either way, I'd try to get over to your nearest Apple Store when you can.

  • Displays backlight doesn't turn off completely!?

When I fade off the backlight of the display there is a spot in the center where i still can see what is displayed, the rest is dark. It seems also that this spot grew in the last time a bit.In the dark this spot is clearly more light than the rest of the display. its about the size of a golf ball.
Anyone who has the same "problem"? Any suggestions?
    Thanks for the help!

Are you sure it is not just a result of room light bleeding in through the back of the case where the Apple logo is? With the MacBook turned off or sleeping, look at the dark screen while holding the MacBook up to a window. You will see that outside light from the window shines through the Apple logo and the screen. Could that be what you are seeing?

  • Display Backlight Troubleshooting

I have an Early 2011 13 inch MacBook Pro Model #A1278 running Mavericks. There's a bit of background information that I've got for my problem.
A couple of months ago I suspected that some water might have gotten into my machine and fried the logic board as the display was not working. When I connected the computer to an external display, it would show the grey apple loading screen, and SOMETIMES it would show my desktop background (but only the "extended" part so I didn't have access to my tray or any menus). I took it into an Apple store and they said that the logic board needed replacing because there was corrosion from the water that I suspected. I thought this was a little off because if the video card were compeltely fried then there wouldn't be any images at all showing up on my external device.
My brother-in-law took a look at it and played aroudn with some firmware and it worked fine.
I'm not sure if all that has anything to do with my current problem, but I wanted to provide you with as much information as I could.
A couple nights ago I had my laptop conneted to the TV and the screen slightly opened when my cat jumped on it and slammed it shut. Everything seemed fine and the movie continued to play on my TV. When I unplugged the TV and went to use the laptop, I couldn't see anything. I can confirm that the display does work. When I shine a flashlight through the apple logo, I can see everything. It also works fine on an external device, which I used to confirm that the brightness control is indeed set to maximum. I also tried a few fixes that I found online including those resets where you hold down certain keys during boot up to reset certain systems. Nothing works.
There is one peculiarity that I haven't seen before and I'm uncertain if it's relevant - when I boot up my computer connected to the external display, I see the grey screen with the apple logo, and then it goes to this screen that's mostly white and at the bottom has narrow green rectangles that look almost like a bar graph along the bottom. Looks like something that migth show up when there's a problem with the video rendering process. It lasts for a couple of seconds, and then everything else works fine... my background shows up and I can use the computer normally.
Before I go out and buy a replacement display, I'm going to disconnect and reconnect the wire from the display. I guess it's possible that when my cat slammed it down some connections were severed... but I'm not sure if it's possible for the backlight to be disconnceted but the display still working fine, given it's just one wire connected to the logic board.
I'm wondering if you guys have any other suggestions at what this might be? If it's a software or driver issue that I can fix withotu going through the hassle of replacing the display I'd like to give those a shot first.
Thanks so muchf or all your help!
    Justin

  • S10-2 display backlight out

Okay, so I received a client's computer from a corporate environment with the problem that the display had gone black.  Now, the problem isn't that it's entirely black, but that the backlight is off.  I know that this person has taken very good care of the computer and there have been no prior issues with flickering or anything else.  This combined with the circumstances leads me to believe that this is probably not a hardware issue.
The computer is regularly used in conjunction with a projector, and it is in disconnecting from the projector that the backlight failed to resume normal operation.  An external monitor works fine, but attempting to run it in clone mode produces flickering.
The system was rolled back to prior to the incident, not that I expected for that to do any good.  All of the power options have been checked and double-checked.  I reinstalled the display driver, which was already the most current.  Will get back to you after a BIOS update but I was hoping maybe someone could shed some light on the problem in the meantime.  I see that there are a number of glitches with lenovo displays, but none of the problems or solutions seem to be directly relevant to the current issue.
Oh, and the backlight is certainly off, not dimmed.  Even the BIOS screen does not light up.  Any ideas before I have to open it up?

A couple other things worth mentioning.  The Intel display information cannot get the maximum vertical/horizontal information for the netbook's display, and the device manager at any time lists ~6 monitors.  Once again, any help is much appreciated.
