A720: After Windows 8.1 upgrade, Start Button doesn't work.

After upgrading to Windows 8.1 on a Lenovo IdeaCentre A720, you cannot properly click the Start Button with a mouse. However, touching the screen works as expected.
If you put your mouse in the left-most corner of the screen, so the mouse is no longer visible, left-clicking switches between apps and right-clicking brings up the Start Button command menu.
You also cannot use the top-left corner of the screen to invoke the app-switching menu with a mouse. It never appears. However, swiping with a finger from the left-side of the screen works as expected.
It seems as though the screen is off alignment. It is preventing core features of the Windows 8 OS to be invoked with a mouse.
Please advise.

Avast 2014 was introduced with many outstanding issues and your specific concern appears to be another one of many issues that the Avast team should have picked up before making Avast 2014 generally available. However, I can tell you that my Windows 8.1 Start Button does work properly and I can attest to the fact that their latest GA release (2014.9.0.2007) has fixed all the previous issues that were identified and posted at the Avast forums.
Also, since this latest version was first made available via a CNET download on 11/1/2013, it could just be that you missed that fix by just a few days. In any event, to ensure there are no conflicts when trying to update from v2006 to v2007, I would suggest the followiing:
Download aswclear and do a cleanuninstall:

Then, download the latest Avast vesion here and see if your issue persists:

If you still have an issue, you can use the Help> Support link to report your issue directly from within the Avast User Interface.

After upgrade to Mavericks shutdown with start button doesn't work

Hallo!
I have a MacBookPro 15"/ 2,66 GHz/ Intel i7 (before upgrade to Mavericks OS 10.9.x was installed):
It was always possible to press the start button for about 1 second and this opened a popup where you could chosse "shut down", "sleep" or "cancle". After the upgrade to Mavericks this function doesn't work any more. When I press the start button the MBP goes into the sleep mode.
Any idea what happened to this feature?

The feature is still there, but the power button function changed with Mavericks to be like this:
one-click = put the machine to sleep
click and hold (3 secs) = display shutdown dialog box
click and hold (10 secs) = hard power off

My start button doesn't work in Windows Pro 8.1

I installed an Windows Pro 8 to 8.1 Pro x64 on a desktop computer. Both were clean installations, no other software was installed. With Window 8.1 Pro, the start button worked for a day after all the updates, then booted the computer. Now, if I try to right
click on the Start button with the mouse; nothing happens. Thinking it was a virus, I used Windows Defender to search to the for a virus and nothing found. No other Windows updates to fix the problem! To me it just another glitch in Windows!
I updated a laptop at the same time with Windows 8 to 8.1 X64, not the Pro version. The laptop was a OEM version of Windows 8. The laptop works fine with Windows 8.1 after upgrading it.

Please try to copy WinX folder under C:\Users\Default\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows into C:\Users\[your user name]\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows.
If it doesn't work, please run following command to repair system:
dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
If the issue persists, let's test the issue in New user account.
If all these steps doesn't fix your issue, please capture the actions during this process by using Process Monitor:

Upgrade site button doesn't work

Hi,
I published this site: www.vivianamz.com from MUSE and it works fine.
Now I wan't an email account with this domain, so I'm trying to update the site from Web Basic.
The upgrade button from Site Managment in my admin console doesn't work.
Is there another way to upgrade the site?
What's the difference if I use the email from Google apps or if I upgrade the plan site?

T400 ThinkVantage Button doesn't work

Hey, I have a problem with the ThinkVantage Button. I was plan to use Powerquest PartitionMagic 8.0 to create a new partition from my C driver. However, instead of create a new partition I lost the Lenovo driver. After that I realize my ThinkVantage Button doesn’t work anymore. I think you have messed up your R&R partition, with Pmagic Use gparted instead, it will recognise the R&R partition.
Is your windows installtion already working?
Try the master boot repair kit mentioned by AndyP here.
I would also suggest to call support, for your recovery discs, cause the create R&R disc function seem also down.
Perhaps only a fresh installation, from these discs, would bring back your Blue Button function in your case.

Windows 8.1 - Upgrade from 8, Start Button Does Not Work

I cannot find a fix for my 8.1 start button.
It works when I move the task bar to the top, right or left but not at the bottom. I ran all windows updates and there are no missing/unknown drivers in device manager. No errors in the event log. I've restarted multiple times and created a new local profile.
I've also tried:
Copy WinX folder under C:\Users\Default\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows into C:\Users\[your user name]\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows.
dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
Any ideas? I would prefer not to do a clean install. Thanks in advance.

Could you please describe a little more detailed about “Start Button does not work”? What is the symptom?
Yes, when the taskbar is at the bottom of the screen, I cannot left click on the start button. The machine is also a touch-screen, which does work when I touch the start button. If I move the task bar to the left, right or top; the start button does work.
And what is the kind of the account, Domain? Local? Or both?

Win + "X" works fine; displays options.

Left-click via the mouse does not work. Touch works fine.
Can you try to copy the WinX folder from a working PC to your PC for a test?
I do not have another Windows 8.1 machine available to me.

I assume your computer has an extended battery pack, right? Are you using a genuine Sony battery packs? Please follow these steps to isolate the issue:
Power Cycle
Turn off the laptop -> push and hold the battery off button for 5 seconds located on the bottom of the laptop. (You may use safety pin).
Remove the battery pack and install it once again. Test the laptop again.
Remove the battery pack -> push the battery off button -> install the battery pack once again.
Reset BIOS
Run Vaio update and Windows update.
Make sure you have the updated drivers and software, check on eSupport website.

First of all you need to get into safemode
for that press f8 or del key while starting the computer
then you will get many options there you must go to safemode
Secondly ,after getting to safemode go to 1.control panel ->2.Device Manager->3.Disable AMD HD Graphics

I see by your post that the USB isn't being recognized.
I can help you with this issue.
Are you using the same USB cable? (known good USB cable)
You want to use the normal USB slot 2.0 cable and not the latest USB 3.0.
USB 3.0 are supposed to be backwards compatible.
Try another USB port on the Laptop, some of the USB ports are more powered then others.
I have provided a document to see if the printer is partially recognized in the device manager, which is causing the printer not to be recognized again. (the uninstall from the CD should have removed the entry and the printer from the registry)
Leave the printer turned on and the USB cable connected directly to the computer and the printer's power cord directly into a wall outlet.
How do I get into Windows Device Manager?
Here is a document for Identifying problems in Windows Device Manager.
Check to see if there are any hardware driver conflicts, you might see a ! mark or a red x beside a device with a conflict or unknown device, look under universal serial bus controllers, look for USB printing support or mass storage device, delete the entry by right clicking and select uninstall, OK.
Let me know how it was listed. (screen shots welcome)
If this is a Laptop then check the power management settings.
Access the device manager. Windows 8-How do I access the Device Manager.
Select universal serial bus controllers from the list, for each USB root hub, right click and left click on properties, for power management remove the check mark for "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power". It allows the computer to limit or turn off power for this device.
Disconnect the USB, run the full uninstall and reinstall the printer software again.

I have the same issue as described at the beginning of this post. As noted by teacher, I have checked and confirmed the green light in back is still lit. I just bought this printer and issues started from the beginning. After I unplug and then restart the printer that way, it turns on and the power button will turn off and then turn on the printer. Its only after its static for a long time and goes into some undefined mode. At that point, the printer no longer responds. How can a company ship a product to customers in which the power button doesn't work? You'll have to upgrade your operating system first.
Most, if not all, Cloud apps require at least OS X 10.7.
