A88XM GAMING v1.5 BIOS CPU Multiplier Locked?

Since I updated to the latest v1.5 BIOS the CPU multiplier seems to be locked. Is this intended or an issue with BIOS, or am I just doing something wrong? The multiplier worked fine on v1.4. I am using an AMD Athlon 760k CPU. Thanks.

I cleared CMOS and it's working now, it's something I really should have done in the first place  Thanks

I am running an A88XM with an A8-7600.  I purchased 4gb x2  2400Mhz DDR3.  When I enable XMP I get the message above, "CPU Max DDR Speed 2133Mhz"  I read that the A8-7600 supported 2400mhz with AMP, so I purchased some AMD 2400mhz ram with AMD and I get the same message.  It doesn't not allow me to manually select 2400 either.  I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas or am I just missing something.
    Thanks!

Max RAM speed supported by memory controller in that CPU is 2133. Trying to squeeze 2400 speed is not worth the effort as you would never see any real world performance increase.

  • Updating BIOS in Linux: MSI A88XM GAMING

    Hello Everyone,
I recently purchased MSI A88XM-GAMING motherboard.
Is there anyway for me to apply updates (bios & chipset) to this motherboard under linux?  Or is there a how-to guide for linux users?
Also since this is my first MSI motherboard curios as to driver support under linux for this motherboard.

    Thanks darkhawk.
Any idea how much support there is for motherboard drivers under linux
I personally do not know. But I would imagine that mostly it should be supported just fine.

The best I can advise is to delete Control Centre from your PC and attempt changes via the BIOS. IF that fails then MSI technical needs to be advised so that they can try and simulate your hardware combo. If it does work via the BIOS, then MSI technical should be advised irrespective about the Control Centre's inability to perform the functions it should.
My own experience with Control Centre software has been anything but satisfactory. The best way is still to tweak via the BIOS.
Just to confirm, you did do a CMOS reset/clear after the BIOS update? Power cord removed..... the normal procedure?
Yeah I've been working in the BIOS.. Bummer the tool lets me change everything but the CPU ratio..

  • P6N SLi F1.....inability to lock cpu multiplier

    Hello
    I have a system based on the P6N Sli-F1 Bios ver 2.3
                                             2Gb Ocz Platinum pc6400
                                             xfx 7600GT Fatal1ty
                                             Hyper 530w psu
System runs fine and is faultless.
My problem seems to be getting the cpu to run at the speed I set it at. Even with "speedstep" manually disabled it lowers the multiplier under normal use and only speeds up when under load. Have  an E4300, E4400 and a lovely E2160 which all have the same results.
Also.....Every time I set the BOOT order so that my HD is first and the rest disabled, upon re-entry to bios, boot order reverts back to having all boot devices in list.
Incidently I have run all 3 cpu's and run the usual benchmarks once a sweetspot is found.
Results conclude....E4400 MO stepping is crap compared to the baby E2160 which is only a couple of points short of my best result with the E4300 [3.4] on standard cooler.
All 3 cpu's stay set at their maximum on my sons Gigabyte GA-G31MX-S2 which is a lowly board in comparison.
Anyone any tips before I decide to buy another motherboard to try maybe the XFX MB-N650-IUL9 NF650i Ultra cos I dont need SLi

Isn't that a good thing? Are you experiencing any performance problems or lags?
The feature that is responsible for this behaviour is called C1E [Enhanced Halt State].  There is a hidden BIOS Option somewhere named "C1E-Support".  Press F4 while you are in BIOS to make it visible.  The default setting is AUTO or Enabled.
I am running a slightly overclocked system with C1E-Support enabled.  In the last 12 month I have experienced no perfomance problems or lags.  I kind of like the idea that the CPU is running at full speed only when it needs to.  Also note, that the CPU multiplier is not the only thing that is automatically adjusted.  VCore is decreased as well when system is IDLE.  The helps to lower power consumption and keeps temperatures down a bit as well.

  • BIOS showing 2500K Locked & Cant adjust CPU ratio in Windows.. P67A-GD65

    Hello all..
I am not having any stability issues at all with my setup.. It is running great and I love the P67A-GD65..
However I am having an issue w/ CPU ratio adjustment..
I am running the 1.6 BIOS release from the 1.4 the board shipped with.. The issues remained on both BIOS versions..
I noticed in the CPU section the BIOS is seeing my 2500K as "LOCKED".. I can however adjust the CPU ratio manually in the OC section of the BIOS to achieve the overclock I want..
I enabled the "adjust cpu ratio from OS" option.. However the Control Center II software will not show me a dropdown to adjust the ratio in Windows 7 Pro 64bit.. So I have to make manual CPU ratio changes in the BIOS for now.. Control Center II does allow all other options to be changed.. Memory settings etc.. I just can't change the CPU ratio..
I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling the Control Center app.. BIOS upgrade.. CMOS clear.. etc.. I suspect this is just a flaky BIOS issue..
Anyone else experiencing this? This is a minor inconvenience.. I can get everything I need out of the board from the BIOS I would just really like to use Control Center II for everything if possible..
    Thanks!!

  • [Athlon64] CPU multipliers above 9 not available on K8T Neo2F, bios 9.10

With an A64 3000 Venice I can set multipliers to 9 or less (200 * 9 for 1800, and below) but can't set the multiplier to 10 or more. If I do, it gets reset to 9 on reboot. As in: enter bios, set multiplier to 10, reboot, enter bios, mutiplier is now back to 9.
Am I missing something, or is this a limit built into the bios?

Getting a 270 HTT on this board is excellent really. Most of the reviewers could not get past 245HTT overall. So if your stable at that speed you have done a bunch. Yes the memory is downclocked but that was your only choice to get the clock you did. Three Cheers.

  • A88XM-Gaming, LLC, voltage flucutation and APM master mode

Just trying to figure out if there is or will ever been an update to allow control over load line control and APM master mode on the A88XM-Gaming motherboard for FM2+. Having several issues where my 860K cpu with all throttling features disabled, fluctuates roughly 100mhz from 4448 to 4523. I also have some weird issues regarding voltages, 860K stock vcore is 1.32v but when I start using the voltage control, +.01 in the bios immediately nets 1.489 to 1.508v. I am wondering if this is a true voltage output reading or if the motherboard is reading it incorrectly. HWmonitor and CPUZ also back up what I am seeing here.

The fluctuation of the core clock is normal as it s a reflection of the 100Mhz FSB bouncing (multiplie 1Mhz of the FSB oscilation with the CPU core Multiplier set in the BIOS).I have it on my MSI A88X-G41 PC Mate with a 5600K as well ,as with the 860K.Voltages look high ,but you can check them for real with a multimeter , if needed, right on the chokes from the VRM phases outputs.

  • Running 7850k+r9 290 on a A88xm Gaming ?

    Hey guys.
I have some serious stability issues with my system.
    Mobo : A88xm Gaming
    CPU  : A10 7850k
    GPU  : R9 290
I think there might a conflit between the R7 of the kaveri and the R9.
    Drivers :
_catalyst 13,12 > Most stable, but regularly crashes ("AMD driver stopped working .... ") > R7 not recognized
_catalyst 14,4 >  Totally unstable, freezes, black screens, etc... > R7 recognized
_catalyst 14,6 > Totally unstable, freezes, black screens, etc... > R7 recognized
I have tried to unistall, disable the R7 via the device manager, didn't help.
I have tried the 3 options regarding "integrated graphics" in the bios (Disabled/Auto/Dual graphics)
So, my question : does anyone run a kaveri + r9 290 and has a stable system ?
Any idea what I could do ?
I must have hit the reset button a 100 times since I got that system.. it's annoying and.. I worry... don't want to blow a brand new system over driver issues...
Anyway gus.. I'll welcome any idea..
    Cheers !

    Corsair RM 550.
    But.. good news...
So far .. ( not 1000 % sure yet) : Using MSI Afterburner to set a 2D&3D profile (so that the freq is locked) seems to work.
I've just spend 4 hours playing all games I have, no crash, everything works, no freeze on the desktop ...
Pretty big relief if it works. But so far it seems like it... I never got to play Arma II without it crashing at launch, exit, loading, or every 10
minutes... and I just played 90 minutes, no problem at all.
So apparently something to do with powersaving that's causing crashes. Nothing new actually, since I found the tip about afterburner on the net.. At first I just thought about a conflit between the 2 Radeon..my bad..
Anyway, I'll say if it really works after some more testing, I have the day off tomorrow
Thanks to all for your support
And thanks to MSI and the guys at Guru3d for Afterburner

  • My new budget box: some USB problems, and CPU multiplier question

hey, just put together my "new" pc for $130! had some old stuff to put in it, specs are:
    msi k7n2 delta2-lsr
    athlon xp 2800+ 333mhz barton
(the rest here is old stuff that's still running fine)
    crucial ram: 1x 512, 1x256, both 266mhzl
    160gb maxtor hd
    radeon all-in-wonder 7500
    sound blaster audigy
case (2 fans plus an air duct leading to the processor)w/350w power supply,
it's mainly for an entertainment center, going in/out to/from a 5.1 reciever, tv, dvd player, the works.
maybe some light gaming too, nothing harder to run than halo.
i had to reuse the d-bracket from my old k7n266 board, the new one didn't come with one. :(
and for some reason its usb ports do not work: neither do my two front usb ports that are built
into the case. the onboard ports all seem to work, andwindows shows in device manager:
standard enhanced pci to usb controller (x1),
standard openhcd usb host controller (x2),
and usb root hub (x3). pretty sure that means they all should work? i've swapped the plugs
around with no luck anyway. i was mainly wondering if there's some bios setting i've overlooked
to get these working, if not, anyone have any other ideas?
also wondering where i should set my cpu multiplier, i generally understand that it's 166mhz *12.5 with
this processor, does that sound about right? i haven't set the muliplier yet in the bios, i just left it at
"cpu default". i'm waiting to get a new cpu fan before i mess with that. i was wondering if my admittedly
slow ram is at risk with either of these settings, i'm not looking to buy more anytime soon (my laptop
is my "real" computer anyway, handles doom3 pretty well). actually i'm kind of confused on the
motherboard's fsb: it's supposed to be 400mhz, but it only goes up to 200 settable in bios? or is that
400mhz calculated only in windows, when you get the nforce2 drivers going?

CPU multipliers on the bartons are locked. You need to do a mod to be able to change it.
With your memory being 266MHz that will hold you back. You may be able to overclock it so it is running the 333MHz but your system may become unstable. You may want to consider getting PC2700 memory or better.
As far as the USB, make sure you do not have pin 10 plugged in (there is no connector for pin 9). There are some topics talking about this. Just do a quick search. Or as phextor mentioned there are some stickys about it. Read through them and try the suggestions, if that doesn't work post back and we will try to get it taken care of. As far as bios settings on some I know there is an option on how many USB ports are in the system. This is usually under integrated peripherals. Make sure it is at 8 ports or all.
    Good Luck

  • MSI A88XM GAMING | Can't boot with new PCI-e x1 card plugged in

    Hi,
I'm a owner to an MSI A88XM GAMING motherboard and I purchased a AverMedia Live Gamer HD card last week. After unboxing and installing the card to one of my PCI-e x1 slots the computer won't boot. All what happends is what the fans starts and the power LED turns on, but that's all. No beeps or anything.
I know for sure what the AverMedia Live Gamer HD card is working just fine, as I've already tested it on my old computer. I've also tested if it might have been a power issue, by disconnected everything and running it on a towel outside the case, still the same result. Connecting it to any of the other 3 PCI-e ports gives the same result. All the PSU cables are properly connected and the motherboard has the latest BIOS version on it.
Is there any way to get it to work on my computer? I would really like to avoid switching motherboard is possible. Using a 2:nd computer is also not an option, as I want to be able to just take it with me without any issues.

Well, someone is doing something with the BIOS because they sent me 1.2B6 a couple weeks ago for the same 88XM GAMING motherboard -- and it didn't fix my Display Port issues.  Maybe the changes were to the PCIe timings?
I didn't want to test any more 1.2 beta builds, due to earlier problem with them. But I'll give the final build of v1.2 a try later today, I didn't notice what it had been released.

Out of curiosity, have you tried the video output from the motherboard, instead of the 280x, when you have card installed? (Make sure the IGP is enabled in bios)
That was one of the very first things I tried, did so after my 2:nd post on the forum. You can find the results here: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=183220.msg1315289#msg1315289
I've contacted the AverMedia Support, hopefully they should be able to find the issue. It's possible what it might be a firmware related issue.
I've also searched around on the XSplit forum if there's anyone else what have run into the same problem. But couldn't find anything, so I made a thread and asked directly instead. I got a reply from someone on the Support Staff, but he couldn't find anything either.

  • CPU Multiplier is Not Visible

Brand New build:  i5 4670k + z97 Gaming 5.  BIOS and all drivers/utilities have been updated via Live Update 6 as of this morning.
My problem is that when I access the BIOS "Overclocking Settings", the actual CPU multiplier itself is not visible (even in Advanced mode).  Turboboost is enabled.  So I'm not actually able to adjust my CPU multiplier beyond the stock value (34x).  But when I toggle the Overclock Genie, the CPU multiplier finally appears with a fixed multiplier of 40x (which I am not able to manually alter).
Any idea what I'm missing here?

Quote from: kreepyguy on 07-September-14, 06:35:50
Yeah, I'm afraid that I've already tried that.  I just tried it again and no luck.  I'm going to try resetting CMOS and see what happens.
Well, it is not possible that it doesn't work. Just scroll to where it says "CPU Ratio  AUTO" so AUTO is higlighted and use +/- keys of your numpad to alter settings.

  • GT735 CPU Multiplier

I'm not sure if this is standard for this model or if I'm having an isolated issue. I have found nothing in my online searches. When on battery mode, my CPU multiplier is permanently set at 2.75 which translates to a measly 500Mhz final CPU clock. Initial Windows boot takes anywhere from 5 - 10 minutes. I can't even watch movies on battery power without terrible stuttering and audio/video synchronization issues. I'd like to fix this issue with a simple multiplier tweak, but the BIOS is extremely limited in usability. What options do I have to correct this issue?
Thanks for any help in advance.

Agreed, but that still doesn't explain the lower than optimal performance under battery power. A dying battery should only produce a shorter life, not lower performance. The only way it could have lower performance is if a cell went bad, which would also drop the voltage and make the system inoperable.
Either this or software issue, look the tips above should solve it.
If issue persist you may consider Vista re-install.

However, that seems to be a small side problem compared to the BIOS issues I'm experiencing. Correct me if I'm wrong, but there should be a "Chipset Configuration" under the version 1.0Q BIOS. I do not have that option. Would you recommend trying to re-flash the BIOS?
