AA3 Sound input from computer mic port-help needed

My new HP desktop has Vista 64 home premium (with creative soundblaster soundcard upgrade) and
I've installed audition3 and have it working fine when using audio files
but now  I want to record audio using the mic port on the desktop. I have a headset mic (from dragon speaking software)
and the windows sound recorder hears the mic just fine. I am going nuts trying to get AA3 to hear it!
Any turotials I haven't found yet?

I spent 3 hrs at it, durin and steve thanks! now
there is audio from the mic input in edit view. I hope to find it in multitrack view but need a break!
my problem with vista is  that i'm so anti-change that i'd rether stay with it. I dont know how to change to Win 7 and as Steve says there3 is concern that we waqit for next version so the bugs are fewer. like Steve, I liked XP; I would take it back, but I'm not a tecchie and have no time to learn these thiongs.
thanks again

    "Hi there, I am currently trying to extract what musical note is being sung via a mic plugged into my soundcard and using the harmonic analyser VI, I am experiencing problems however, as the fundamental frequency output does not always match the note being sung. Does anyone have any ideas why this may be? I initally thought it may be due to aliasing occurring but this is compensated for in harmonic analyser VI! If anyone has any suggestions I would be extremley grateful. Thanks

    Rob Cole is right, your question is one that has a lot of potential
    answers.
    Here are a couple of notes / thoughts:
    A-weighting probabably won't help much for your particular app, as it
    sounds like your are more interested in tone detection, rather than
    modeling how a human would hear or compliance with a standard.
    Probably the most likely reason you are seeing the fundamental frequency
    vary is that you are measuring a real-world signal that is a human voice.
    Even though your singer may be singing a constant note, the frequency
    content will vary somewhat--your singer is an imperfect boilogical
    system. (Nothing against your singer in particular--no signer is
    perfect!) Also, as Rob Cole pointed out, your singer's note isn't a pure
    tone at all, but a collection of harmonics that you perceive as a note.
    Regarding aliasing, it's important not to confuse any algorithmic
    compensation (applied after a signal has been sampled) with true alias
    protection. If you are using a sound card, it likely doesn't have
    hardware-based alias protection. The only way to ensure that aliases
    don't intrude on the frequency span of interest is to apply a hardware
    filter prior to sampling your signal. Such filters can be added to the
    front end of a DAQ board or come built-in with DSA hardware such as the
    NI 4472. The software alias-related functionality of the Harmonic
    Analyzer VI's simply excludes signal content that exceeds the Nyquist
    rate in the distortion calculation.
    I'm not sure specifically which VI you are referring to, but the SINAD
    and Harmonic Distortion Analyzer VIs from the waveform analysis palette
    use a tone detection algorithm to find the fundamental which is the same
    as the one found in the Extract Single Tone Information VI. All of these
    VIs include an advanced search input where you can specify a guess for
    the frequency of interest and a range (as a percent of the sampling
    frequency). You might try to narrow the search from the "try everything"
    mode (-1 in the approx freq.) to something with less span around the
    expected freq range.
    Take a look at the power spectrum of your signal and verify that you see
    a distinct, time-invarient peak where you expect your fundamental. My
    guess is that you don't. I've whistled into a mic enough to know.
    A final suggestion is to increase the duration (# of samples) acquired in
    your acquisition. When you do so, you increase the duration of the signal
    window that you analyze. If your signal shows slight frequency variation
    over a given period of time, they can tend to average out with increased
    duration of the signal that you analyze.
    Hope this helps!

  • Sound input from networked computer

    does anyone know of an easy way (or just a way) to use the sound input from another networked computer to mine into garageband?
    thanks

    Hi Christoph,
    it doesn't seem to work like that (no unnecessary D-A-D conversion), as shown on page 6 of the documentation.
    More information here, but I must admit that I'm no audio engineer so I don't fully understand how it works!
    That said I don't remember having noticeable loss of quality in my audio streams when I tried it.

    Which operating system is installed?
    What do you mean by "fitted speakers"?  Do you mean plugged the connector in?
    What is the exact product name/number of your notebook?
    Is there no webcam or mic internally installed or do you mean that they are not working?
    Best regards,

    With the rewire slave running, create an aux track in Logic. You should see rewire as an option for the inputs of the aux track.

  • Recording and playing sound input from mic simultaneously in iphone/ipad

    I want to simultaneously record and play the sound from a mic in iphone. As thecricket commentory application.
    Please provide me a solution for this.
    Is this possible in iOs.

    This probably isn't going to sound very helpful, for which I apologise in advance, but I'm afraid it's the truth...
    The only way you stand any way of doing any of this is by using ASIO4ALL, which can aggregate different drivers from multiple devices. But I don't rate your chances too highly, I'm afraid - USB mics have long been the problem child of computer-based audio. On top of that, you are trying to get sounds in and out of a separate device at the same time - not only that, but it's a Creative Labs gamer's device and they are second only to USB mics in terms of the 'difficult' stakes - search this forum!
    A much, much better way to attempt to do this would be to use a sensible ASIO external device with sufficient inputs, and a mic that plugs into it, not a USB one. That way you could route the inputs and outputs appropriately, and use the device's monitoring so that you could monitor what you need to. I wouldn't attempt to do anything like this any other way, I'm afraid. Another approach (which can be made to work well) is to use an external mixer to do most of the work - often it's easier to set up the monitoring on these. You can get mixers with the appropriate interface built-in, and they don't cost a fortune either. Mackie and Behringer make suitable devices.

  • Windowing an OutputSream from the mic .. help !

    Hi all ..
    first I'd like to thank all people here in the forum .. i learnt a lot from u guys !
    My problem is ..
    I'm using J2ME
    I want to stream from the mic .. for 3 seconds
    then whenever a 256 samples are available .. i read them from the stream so to do DCT on them .. or maybe Hadamard transform ..
    the code i use , makes the recorder sleeps for the 3 seconds .. then all data time samples are available at the end ..
    this is the code i use (copied from this forum !)
    private byte[] record()   {
        ByteArrayOutputStream output= null;
        try {
            Player p = Manager.createPlayer( "capture://audio?bits=16" );
            p.realize();
            RecordControl rc = ( RecordControl ) p.getControl( "RecordControl" );
            output = new ByteArrayOutputStream();
            Alert splash = new Alert("Please Speak out now !!");
            splash.setTimeout(1000);
            Display.getDisplay(this).setCurrent(splash);
            rc.setRecordStream( output );
            p.start();
            rc.startRecord();
            Thread.currentThread().sleep( 3000 );
            rc.stopRecord();
            rc.commit();
            p.stop();
            p.close();
        } catch( Exception e )  {
            System.out.println( e );
        return output.toByteArray();
    }Note : after trying this code on a mobile phone .. it worked great .. but the recorder seemed a little slow .. and did not record All the 3 seconds.. so i made the sleep = 5000 ie 5 seconds..
    waiting for ur helpful hands and keyboards .. !!
    Thanks in advance..

    Sorry, wrong thread......
    Here is some info about the applet tag
    http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/applet/appletsonly/appletTag.html
    Allthouhg that one still uses CODE="MyClass.class"
    and should be CODE="Animator" (without the .class)
    The above link tells you about the properties of the applet tag but you should use the object tag instead:
    http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/docs/guide/plugin/developer_guide/using_tags.html
    Allthough that article mentioned situations where to use the applet tag.
    The only reason to use applet tag is if you want the applet to be run with MSJVM.
    Allthough the default installation will run applets with the SUN jre many users will
    probably change this after noticing their ms specific applets won't run anymore.

  • 50L7300UC - sound input from Mac not outputting to ARC

    I'm having an odd problem with audio on my 50L7300UC (Canadian model of the 50L7300U). I have a soundbar hooked up via HDMI ARC, and it works fine for audio from my cable PVR, from online sevices such as Netflix accessed through the TV itself, and from my PC (a Windows 8 tablet connected via a mini-Displayport to HDMI cable, which provides both audio and video). But with my wife's Macbook Air, using the same mini-Displayport to HDMI cable, video is fine but the sound won't output to the soundbar. Oddly, the sound does work if played through the TV speakers, but if I switch sound output to the soundbar (which the TV sees as "Amplifier"), nothing comes out. I've tried different settings on the Macbook's audio output (using the Midi Audio utility), but that doesn't seem to matter. Any ideas?

    Hmm, if it doesn't see the internal microphone when connected via the FW cable, maybe you might have to run audio cables from the camcorder line output to the sound input on the Mac.

    But when I want to select this device in the sound input preference of OS X it dosn't appear in my choices. OS X dosn't seem to recognize is wherase iChat does...
    Is there a way to make it recognized in the system preferences?
    Thanks,

  • Sound Out from Mini Display Port Not Working on a Particular TV

    I have a Macbook Pro that I purchased new a few months ago. I use an adaptor to run the display out of the Mini Display port to an HDMI cable on my TV, sound and all. I have also used it while traveling to do the same thing on hotel TVs with HDMI ports.
    When I do this, I have to go into System Prefs>Sound and specify the sound output should go to the model of TV that is displayed in the prefs. It always seemed to detect the model of TV when I have it hooked up.
    I am staying in a house where I can't get the sound to go out of a Toshiba TV. It shows up in the sound prefs, but I can't ear a thing. The only way I can hear sound is if I tell it to use the internal speakers.
    What am I doing wrong when it comes to the Toshiba?
    Thanks.

    Greetings,
    But I wanna know what is the best way going ahead to get this fixed.
    Thats up to you.  Given the testing you have performed the only additional items I would suggest would be:
    Reset the SMC and then test: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    Reset the PRAM and then test: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.6/en/26871.html
    You can make an appointment with a Mac Genius at an Apple store, contact AppleCare via phone, or contact an Apple Authorized Service Provider for assistance.
    Calling AppleCare and having them send you a box for the computer would be the fastest method of repair (usually) as an AppleStore or an Apple Authorized Service provider may not have the parts in stock.  You could certainly take the computer in to have them look at it and tell you what the repair time frame would be.
    Also, if they decide to replace the part, will I be shelling out any money inspite of the coverage ?
    If you would like to read the warranty of the Macbook Pro, Hardware warranty details are found here: http://www.apple.com/legal/warranty/
    The warranty covers manufacturing issues. As long as the failure is due to a hardware component failure and not outside influence then there is no out of pocket expense.
    If the port has failed because a 1 year old shoved a nail in it, rain blew in the window and shorted out the logic board, SUV backed up over the computer and broke the port, then the warranty will not cover it.  They will contact you and let you know that the repair is not covered and ask if you want it repaired at your own cost or you can pick up / have the computer sent back to you.
    If for some reason you find out the issue is not covered then you could take it up with your insurnace company (renters / home owners etc) or your credit card company if you purchased the computer with a credit card.  Some credit cards offer hardware coverage for purchases.
    Best of luck.

  • Device ID on Sound Input for USB Mic

    I have a usb mic and I and trying to use th esound pinput configure VI.  I need to input the location for my usb mic. But going to device manager says my mic is at location 0000.0013.0000.002.000.000.000.000.000.
    I obviously cannot use that in the location input on the vi. Is there a simple way to get around this?

    Updated: Here is a snippet of code on the left. The default is 0, the standard mic in on a sound card. But since this mic isn't on a sound card I am not sure how to use its location. Or whether this is simply a different and better way. Any one else run into this problem?
