AAA on PIX- doesn't tell you if pw expired

I have an environment of cisco devices including routers, switches, and firewalls. All of them are set to authenticate a management session via TACACS. The problem is that if the password has expired and we attempt to login to the firewall, it doesn't tell me so, it just keeps prompting me to enter password, ultimately locking out my account on the ACS server. The switches will tell me and give me the opportunity to change my password. Is there a way to set this so that the PIX also prompts me?

Password aging is not supporting through SSH v1. You will need to use SSH v2 in order to support this feature.

  • Things Nokia doesn't tell you about the E61i

The E 61i looks great, BUT:
They don't tell you it runs on an exotic platform called Symbian, most banking software will not run with Symbian and I suspect lots of other websites will not either.
So you can forget about making payments with your phone.
Installing email programs like gmail is not easy, go to the google website to see how. Nokia doesn't tell you.
The user manual is too superficial and has a lousy structure.
Customer support from Nokia in my country (the Netherlands) is almost non-existant. Emails are not answered and there is no helpdesk. You can only go with your phone to a repair center and hope for the best.
The settings download service only works for a small number of settings, e.g. not for the gmail settings.
I noticed that the backup function in Nokia pc suite does not make a backup of everything, e.g not the address book.
And these are just a few of my experiences......

My friend the think is to do some research before buying the phone,i am insure you that there is a lot of app which can help you a lot with things you are interest in....just do some good search...if you need help

  • HT4009 Shouldn't an in-app purchase tell you what your buying is for a specific number of uses?

There is a Word-O-Meter in Words with Friends that can meter how good the word is that you are about to play or if it's valid.  You first get some free uses and then an offer to buy when the free is used up.  What it doesn't tell you is your purchase is only for a limited number of uses and then you have to buy again.  This does not seem right, so wanted to get an opinion.

I completely agree. Just happened to me. Very disappointing. Anyway/where we can rate them?

  • Maintaining Macs--Why doesn't Apple tell you more?

This is not a problem that I need to solve but just something I've been wondering about. Why doesn't Apple tell people the routines they need to use to maintain their Macs?
If you do a search on "maintenance" in Support the fourth item is Mac Maintenance Quick Assist:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303602
The things they tell you to do are:
    1) Keep Things Up to Date; 2) Put Your Files Away; 3) Name Your Files; 4) Prune Through Your Files; 5) Back Up Your Files; 6) Check for Viruses; 7) Clean the Outside
Where is anything about running the maintenance scripts, checking permissions, checking your preferences, updating the databases, cleaning caches, or anything else that software programs like Onyx, Cocktail, etc make their purpose? Why don't they mention getting a program like Disc Warrior and running it periodically?
The first item on their list is Keep Things Up to Date, meaning download system and application updates. Well after looking at these forums for a while I would have to say that is the worst thing you could do, as so many posts start, " Help! I updated my software and now things don't work...." Even if you look at this article about updating your software...
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106704
...nowhere does it mention repairing your permissions! Yet everywhere on this forum that is mentioned as one of the first things to do...unfortunately AFTER people are crazy with problems.
I don't get it. Even in the manuals that come with the computers none of this stuff is mentioned (last time I looked) except in the troubleshooting section. Would you buy a car where the owner's manual had "change the oil regularly" listed in a section on what to do after you've blown your engine?
Granted, a lot of people on this forum know all these things and do them regularly, but I have several friends with Macs who never do any regular maintenance because they've never been told to. One just called me last week because his iMac auto-updated and he had all sorts of problems.
So why is this? Why isn't basic Mac maintenance explained to people better? Going back to the car analogy, people have been taught they have to give their cars tune-ups or face an eventual breakdown. Why not with Macs?
I have been using Macs for years and enjoy looking into this geeky stuff. And I rarely have any serious problems. I would think it has a lot to do with the fact that I don't automatically update without checking MacFixit first and seeing what problems people are having and running a few simple maintenance routines periodically, plus backing up for good measure. Why isn't Apple more upfront with people about maintaining their Macs? Am I off-base here?
    ibook G3, imac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

I'll provide you with several references you will find interesting reading:
    http://www.macfixit.com/article.php?story=20060413075624652
    http://www.macworld.com/2006/08/secrets/repairpermissions/index.php
    http://www.macworld.com/2006/03/secrets/tcopermissions/index.php
    http://www.atomicbird.com/node/view/29
The document to which you referred is an old one that dates back a ways when permissions repairs were often still needed because many installers improperly changed permissions or caused permissions to change through other improper operations. In reality the only thing permissions repair affects are the permissions on OS X installed software for which there are receipts in the /Library/Receipts/ folder and third-party software that install a receipt that includes information on resetting permissions for that software. The vast majority of third-party applications provide no such information and repairing permissions has no impact on them.
As for maintenance scripts they are now supposed to be run automatically regardless of whether the computer is turned on in the early AM, but this is an implementation with Tiger because Tiger introduced a new method of task launching. It's not 100 percent effective but it's better than it was. However, it's an easy problem to solve because there are some excellent utilities that solve the problem: Macaroni, Anacron, and Pseudo Anacron - VersionTracker or MacUpdate. I use Macaroni on all my Macs.
Kappy's Personal Suggestions for OS X Maintenance
For disk repairs use Disk Utility. For situations DU cannot handle the best third-party utilities are: Disk Warrior; DW only fixes problems with the disk directory, but most disk problems are caused by directory corruption; Disk Warrior 4.0 is now Intel Mac compatible. TechTool Pro provides additional repair options including file repair and recovery, system diagnostics, and disk defragmentation. TechTool Pro 4.5.2 is Intel Mac compatible; Drive Genius is similar to TechTool Pro in terms of the various repair services provided. The current version, 1.5.1, is Intel Mac compatible.
OS X performs certain maintenance functions that are scheduled to occur on a daily, weekly, or monthly period. The maintenance scripts run in the early AM only if the computer is turned on 24/7 (no sleep.) If this isn't the case, then an excellent solution is to download and install a shareware utility such as Macaroni, JAW PseudoAnacron, or Anacron that will automate the maintenance activity regardless of whether the computer is turned off or asleep.
OS X automatically defrags files less than 20 MBs in size, so unless you have a disk full of very large files there's little need for defragmenting the hard drive. As for virus protection there are few if any such animals affecting OS X. You can protect the computer easily using the freeware Open Source virus protection software ClamXAV. Personally I would avoid most commercial anti-virus software because of their potential for causing problems.
I would also recommend downloading the shareware utility TinkerTool System that you can use for periodic maintenance such as removing old logfiles and archives, clearing caches, etc.
For emergency repairs install the freeware utility Applejack. If you cannot start up in OS X, you may be able to start in single-user mode from which you can run Applejack to do a whole set of repair and maintenance routines from the commandline.
When you install any new system software or updates be sure to repair the hard drive and permissions beforehand. I also recommend booting into safe mode before doing system software updates.
Get an external Firewire drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):
    1. Retrospect Desktop (Commercial - not yet universal binary)
    2. Synchronize! Pro X (Commercial)
    3. Synk (Backup, Standard, or Pro)
    4. Deja Vu (Shareware)
    5. PsynchX 2.1.1 and RsyncX 2.1 (Freeware)
    6. Carbon Copy Cloner (Freeware - 3.0 is a Universal Binary)
    7. SuperDuper! (Commercial)
The following utilities can also be used for backup, but cannot create bootable clones:
    1. Backup (requires a .Mac account with Apple both to get the software and to use it.)
    2. Toast
    3. Impression
    4. arRSync
Apple's Backup is a full backup tool capable of also backing up across multiple media such as CD/DVD. However, it cannot create bootable backups. It is primarily an "archiving" utility as are the other two.
Impression and Toast are disk image based backups, only. Particularly useful if you need to backup to CD/DVD across multiple media.
Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQs on maintenance, optimization, virus protection, and backup and restore.
Additional suggestions will be found in Mac Maintenance Quick Assist.

I know that Joe Average has no clue, but it's not Apple's responsibility to provide Joe Average with clues on how to use a computer. No more than it's not GM's responsibility to teach you how be an automotive mechanic or how to drive. Some things you have to take responsibility for yourself. It's just that Joe Average is too lazy to read the User Guide, buy a book, or in any other way learn about computers before buying one.
As you can tell I am somewhat heavy handed about personal responsibility. Computers are essentially toys that aren't dangerous, but the person playing with them is. What really scares the crap out of me is that same Joe Average has a driver's license and may be old enough to drink liquor. When it comes to driving or drinking and driving Joe Average is no more competent.

Something doesn't seem right here. If she has to use her email address as her contact address in order to message with you, that suggest to me that she either doesn't meet the requirements to use her iPhone number as the contact address (iOS 6 or later with an iPhone number linked to her Apple ID) or there is an issue with the way the phone number is being entered.

  • [SOLVED] A command that tells you when the last --sysupgrade happened?

Is there a command that will tell me the date when the last --sysupgrade upgrade occurred?
I suppose I can write a small script that looks at the log file to determine and output the date, but I was just wondering if it exists before I do so.
This would be a nice addition to pacman if it doesn't exist already.
    For example:
    pacman -Q --sysupgraded
would show the last --sysupgraded date.

A script can even tell you what did you update: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php … 87#p626487
    [karol@black ~]$ whatdidido
[2012-03-31 23:59] starting full system upgrade
    [2012-03-31 23:59] upgraded cairo (1.10.2-3 -> 1.12.0-1)
    [2012-03-31 23:59] upgraded e2fsprogs (1.42.1-1 -> 1.42.2-1)
    [2012-03-31 23:59] upgraded xorg-server-common (1.12.0-1 -> 1.12.0.901-1)
    [2012-03-31 23:59] upgraded xorg-server (1.12.0-1 -> 1.12.0.901-1)
    or simply
    [karol@black ~]$ grep "starting full system upgrade" /var/log/pacman.log | tail -n1
[2012-03-31 23:59] starting full system upgrade
Make an alias out of it and you're all set.
pacman devs don't like adding new switches + it probably should be 'pacman -S --something', not 'pacman -Q'.

  • I have a GREAT Rev.B iMAC... I'll tell you why I do preffer it over Rev.C..

I have an iMac G5, 17", 2GHz - rev.B - 2GB RAM. wireless Mouse and KB and I do love it... silent... no dead pixels... no problem. But I'll tell you my concerns about the new models:
    1. Now if you wanna go 17" you have to go back to 1.9GHz.
    2. And also, you can't have paired RAM that would bring it to 128bits any more... (I have two 1GB RAM)
3.The 2GB RAM itself is SOOOO expensive... you can almost buy another computer...
4.The new iSight doesn't give you a chance of pointint it to another place in your room... I'd have to move the whole iMac if I wanted to show my mum (who lives in another country) my kids playing in the living room.
As I said I don't have any of the problems related to Rev A or B... I believe there might be many users just like me... with a quiet iMAC... and I use Photoshop, Flash, Dreamweaver, iPhoto, iMovie... Internet... all at the same time... It just works!!!
I have no need for Front Row... I am happy with my iMac being 2GHz and having 2GB RAM...
    Give your oppinions...
    Cheers!

Well I got my daughter a 17-inch ALS Rev B iMac in June, 2 GHz processor, and it is a spectacular computer. However, I read in Macworld that the new 1.9 GHz iMacs are actually a bit faster than the Rev. B 2 GHz iMacs due to other improvements. So going "back" to 1.9 GHz here would actually be an improvement. Given what I have read about these newest iMacs, of course I would prefer one over the "older" one we got in June. But that's how it always is with computers, cars, etc. The newer ones are almost always nicer.
I agree that the older iMacs are more user servicable and the memory set up is more flexible (and maybe cheaper). But the matched pair RAM chips has turned out to be an almost invisible advantage, perhaps measurable in special tests, but not visible in real world situations, from what I have researched on this topic (I looked into this before we purchased our computer without a matched pair). And my daughter's Rev. B iMac came with 512 Meg, we simply added 1 Gig for a total of 1.5 Gig RAM. We will probably never open the computer and will probably use it like this for its entire life. I would bet it would be the same if we had bought a newest iMac, and I'm guessing that most iMac users are like us. Tinkerers and customizers almost always get a PowerMac which have true expansion capabilities. But for the majority of home users who do stuff like email, web browsing, games, MS Office, graphics, iPhoto, iTunes, Adobe Photoshop and the like, the imac is great and the newest ones probably are a shade faster and nicer (and I would guess a bit more reliable since Apple has probably learned some lessons in that area as well).

And now because I want to communicate with apple support I have to go through the hectic website and community support, this is ridiculous.
I have 5 iPhones in my account and this makes me reconsider upgrading to iPhones again.
Why Apple put a phone number in the bank transaction, if there is nobody to talk to!!!!!!
I hope someone from Apple support can answer my question.

Go to getsupport.apple.com.  Or, call 1-800-MYAPPLE.
Just because an app is free to download doesn't mean that there aren't in-app purchases available.
Go to iTunes on your computer, log into the iTunes Store with your Apple ID & password, and check your purchase history.  Be advised that all iTunes & App Store purchases are final.

There's an option for turning on and off homesharing, but no button to access the actual library of the other PC. On either PCs. Both are logged in and both are registered for homesharing. however because apple keeps updating and moving things around for no reason there appears to be no way of accessing the homsharing button in the latest version of itunes. the website refers to " Once set up, all the libraries from your computers you've enabled Home Sharing on will show up in the SHARED area of iTunes:" well I have searched all over in the recent itunes versions and there is no "shared area" to be found.
Please find the attachment of a screen cap of my itunes.
If anyone can help by telling me where it has been moved to or if it even still exists that would be much appreciated.

I want to tell you that I am very disappointed because I just read that in photo stream my photos are stored only for (30) thirty days.I didn't know that and I didn't have the time to save them on a device.
I was robbed of mobile before (3) three days and I lost 2.000 photos!
Is there any possibility to retrieve them?
If it was possible that would be great as I would save them immediately to my computer instead of losing them again.

  • Anyone know why appleID support tells you to go to iTunes support to fix your lack of a rescue email, but the link on iTunes for support kicks you right back to appleID support? Freakin' brilliant, Apple!

    So frustrated!
I am trying to access some iTunes money for my son and keep running into security questions before I can purchase on his new iPod mini for him.
So I access my appleID, and sure enough, I don't recall ever setting these questions up years ago, and apparently my answers now aren't the same as they were back when I first set up the account even if I did so.
So appleID support tells me to send a rescue email.  Only I don't have that option under manage my ID.  Apparently I never set one up.
So appleID support says I need to contact iTunes support to fix this lack of rescue email issue.  And they provide this helpful link.
Only the iTunes page has a link for iTunes support which redirects you to ... get this ... appleID support (AKA "square one") where you just were.
    Freakin' brilliant, I tell you!
Anyone know how to break this cycle?
Anyone know how to get a live person to look at the problem?
I am so mad right now I could chew nails.

You can contact iTunes Support / Apple in your country to get your questions reset via this page : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5699
When they've been reset you can then use the steps half-way down this page to add a rescue email address for potential future use : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5312

  • TS4108 I have an iphone 5 and an Ipad but DO NOT have an apple computer so if I back-up my iphone to icloud prior to going to a Genius Bar as they tell you to can I then reclaim my data from icloud if necessary.?

I have an iphone and an ipad.  I DO NOT have an Apple Mac (I have a Dell laptop).  I have an appointment with a Genius Bar.  They tell you to back up your data to icloud before you come in.  If my data is lost will I be able to retrieve it without an Apple Mac????    Oh and how do I check what operating system I'm using???? Sorry I'm a novice regarding this.

You can back up your device, either to iCloud or to your computer using iTunes, as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766.  If you need to know what version of iOS you are using, go to Settings>General>About and read the number across from Version.
