AAC content starts immediately, MP3 content suffers severe delays

I have around 75GB of content in my library, comprising both AAC and MP3 material. My issue is that my AAC content (both from the iTunes store plus my own rips) will play immediately upon selection but when I play MP3 content (either purchased MP3 from Amazon or my own rips) there is a 3 to 4 second delay (occasionally with the beach-ball making an appearance) before the content starts to play.
I have local content on my machine, the majority is stored on my home media server. That has a built in iTunes server (which delivers all content instantly). The AAC files which do play immediately are also delivered by this server. I don't have any network or file serving delays on any file other than these MP3 files and - most tellingly - only with iTunes.
Anyone else experiencing this? Any ideas?
thanks in advance

I am suffering from severe lag with playing videos in iTunes that are stored an external hard drive. No problems yesterday, updated to 10.6.3. and iTunes 9.1 and now my iTunes is useless. This is a bad update from Apple. I don't have a solution.

  • FMS3 - videos start immediately in domain, 20+ sec delay outside domain

    We are running FMS3 on Windows 2003 Server. Videos stream and play fine when inside our domain, but outside the domain the videos take anywhere from 20 or more seconds before playing.
    After analizing the connections it was determined that the player is randomly trying to access ports until it gets to the one that works, but this is ONLY happening from people trying to view videos from outside our domain.
    The server is not behind a firewall.
    Any ideas?

    Strange, but I don't see any of the FMS3 ports when I do the following command: netstat -ano | find "LIST"

  • Task ALE/EDI: Error handl cannot be started immediately

    When an IDOC is being created in SAP(3.1I) from an external system(Gentran GIS), it is added with errors status 56. The error text states as 'Task ALE/EDI: Error handl cannot be started immediately
    'The task ALE/EDI: Error handl (no. TS00008068) cannot be started immediately by user GIS'.
    Can anyone advise where the user 'GIS' need to be added to avoid getting that IDOC error

    Hi Bhaskara,
    This can be caused by several issues:
    1. The user GIS has NO authorization to run workflows or to run this specific workflow task (TS00008068).
    2. The user GIS has NO authorization to run function module EDI_ROLE_FOR_PROCESSING (or when running this function module it will return data in the ACTOR_TAB, which means that the workflow cannot be started by default users).
    3. Within the partnerprofile (transaction WE20) at the specific inbound parameters for the message on the tab "Post processing: permitted agent) an agent has been defined that will not resolve to the user GIS (and therefore this user is NOT allowed to do post processing).
    Most likely issue 3 is here at hand. If this is the case, REMOVE the entry for the agent (or consider to setup an organisational unit/work center and make GIS a member).
    The error, by the way, is an inbound processing error. It is possible that in the ALE layer something has not been defined properly.
    Within the partnerprofile (transaction WE20) at the specific inbound parameters for the message on the tab "Inbound options" and double-click on the entered Process code.
    You must now check the entries here.
    Example:
    If you use an own function module (named in the Identification field) you must set the radio buttons to Processing with ALE service AND Processing by function module. The little button behind the identification field will show some details.
    At least the detail fields (on tab IDoc) Object type, Start event and End event must be filled.
    Default values for these are: IDOCAPPL (=Object type), INPUTERROROCCURRED (=Start event) and ERRORPROCESSCOMPLETD (=End event).
    Of course within ALE you can define different types of process codes (what you like most for your specific handling).
    Hope this helps you a bit on your way.
    Regards,
    Rob.

  • AAC 128kbps vs. MP3

    I have been trying to find a way to reduce the memory sizes from my music (and since most of my music came from YouTube to mp3).... im trying to find out is AAC 128kbps better than MP3?

    AAC is generally better than equivalent bit rate MP3. At 128 Kbps AAC, most of the "killer samples" at hydrogenaudio.org are transparent to me. Not so with 160 Kbps LAME MP3 and even 192 Kbps.
    That said, you should avoid converting from lossy to lossy format, especially when going from MP3 to lower bit rate (higher would make no sense) MP3, because that will greatly magnify the artifacts. Here again AAC is superior in that it's degraded less by transcoding, either from AAC->AAC or MP3->AAC. Converting to lossy formats is really meant to start with lossless audio, and since your stuff is all MP3, well, I wouldn't bother unless it's 256 Kbps or above. From what little I've seen, Youtube is all 96 Kbps MP3 anyway; what are your files?

  • How do I repeat a function that starts immediately?

    Hi,
    I am using a Timer function to repeat a function however the function only begins (and repeats) after the period set eg. 5 seconds not immediately.
    Here is an example of the code:
    var myTimer:Timer = new Timer(2000,8);
    myTimer.addEventListener(TimerEvent.TIMER, timerListener);
    function timerListener (e:TimerEvent):void{
    trace("Timer is Triggered");
    myTimer.start();
    Is there any way to make the function start immediately then repeat?
    Thanks
    Chris

    after timer.start()
    add
    myTimer.dispatchEvent(new TimerEvent(TimerEvent.TIMER));
    this will trigger your function immediately

  • Everytime I start my iMac it opens several windows. I don´t know what to do to prevent this.

    Everytime I start my iMac it opens several windows: Word, Excel, etc. I don´t know how to prevent this. I have to spend several minutes everytime closing 5 or 6 windows. I close everything before I sign out so I don´t know what to do. Please help.

    In addition, OS X Lion includes a function referred to as Resume, where it will automatically re-open any app left running when the machine was shut down or restarted.
    To prevent that from happening, you can uncheck the item in the shutdown or restart splash screen which refers to re-opening running apps. Unfortunately, this has to be done every time.
    The alternative is to get in the habit of quitting all apps before shutting down or restarting.
    Note that in the user's guide Apple suggests not shutting the machine down unless it will be unused for more than a few days. Not sure how many 'few' is in that context, but since I use mine every day I never shut it down (unless there's an electrcal storm in the area).

  • Can I convert m4a (AAC) files back to mp3?

    I have like 60 something songs that I want to fit all on one cd and that would definately not happen in AAC so I want to convert each song into mp3.

    Depending on what bitrate you have set the AAC is about the same size as an MP3.
    Do you perhaps have AAC confused with Apple Lossless, which is much larger?
    But anyway, yes you can convert it. Go to iTunes preferences>Advanced (iT6)>importing and set the "import using" to MP3. Click OK
    Now go back and select the song(s) and from the menu bar go advanced>convert to MP3.
    The song will be duplicated, one AAC version and one MP3 version. Delete the one you don't want, or keep both to compare the size difference.
    If your talking about purchased songs, you can't convert them to MP3. You have to burn an audio CD first and then rip it as MP3.
    Just remember that converting a lossy format to another lossy format will reduce the quality. If it is AAC it probably isn't worth converting to MP3 if your only reason for doing so is to save space, because there is not much difference in the two.

  • Adobe Content Viewer focus delay?

    I am wondering if viewing with the Adobe Content Viewer causes delays in articles/pages coming into focus? I have tried building using all three formats: PNG, JPG & PDF. They all have some delay. PNG has least delay followed by JPG then PDF.

    There is no difference between how Adobe Content Viewer renders content and how custom viewers render content. JPEG decompression on iOS is known to be slow due to the underlying decoding methods provided by iOS. PDF always shows a low-resolution image while the higher-resolution version is processed. The length of time this takes depends on the complexity of your page.

  • When i start my itunes, it start immediately but than i am not able to click on anything for at-least 20 minutes.

    When i start my itunes, it start immediately but than i am not able to click on anything for at-least 20 minutes.
    I have a lot of songs on there from my local drive and also a network drive which is connected to my local hhome network.
    Now before when i use to load itunes while it get frozen it used to collect information on 3 songs and i knew their names so went ahead and deleted them but now i dont see it collecting any information and just frozen.
    I just got an iphone and also noticed that once i am syncing my iphone and than i cancel the sync it will again freeze.
    What could be causing this, please tell me a way where i dont have to erase my library and re scan it.
    One important note - My iTunes Media folder location is on my Network Drive. Can that be the reason?
    Let me know.
    Thanks in Advance,
    Jay

    The "tap to click" function isn't enabled until a user logs on.  You should be able to use the "physical click" (push down on the front left of the trackpad) in the login screen.

  • SwingWorker don't start immediately - question

    Given: two SwingWorkers (SW). I want them BOTH to start working immediately upon execute(). However, it seems that the second SW waits for the first SW to complete. Below is a working example. When you run it, you will see that it pauses ten seconds between debug print statements FIRST and SECOND. Why does it pause? Should not FIRST and SECOND appear nearly simultaneously? How do I make both SW start immediately? Thanks.
    import javax.swing.SwingWorker;
    public class Test {
    private void test() {
    new SwingWorker<Object, Void>()
    @Override
    protected Object doInBackground() throws Exception
    System.out.println("FIRST");
    System.out.flush();
    Thread.sleep(10000);

    new SwingWorker<Object, Void>()

    Turns out I found a bug: http://forums.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5434659. This works great:

    import java.util.concurrent.Executor;
    public class Test {
        private void test() {

  • AAC files changed to mp3

    Hey everyone, this isn't really an issue as I'm sure the files extension changed but it's still the file I want. Anyway.
    I downloaded Audacity to make 3 songs, mp3 files, louder and it worked. Once in my itunes library I created AAC versions to make them take up less space on my hard drive plus I couldn't put album art on the WAV files. Once I'd converted them I deleted the WAV files and moved the AAC files to the original location of the mp3 files and located them in the library and then synced them to my phone and all was fine and dandy.
    Just now I played one of the songs and it sounded louder than originally but quieter than when I first created the AAC versions. I right clicked on the songs and opened them in a windows folder to see what they were and they are the same sizes as their AAC counterparts but are listed as mp3's.
    As I said this isn't too much of an issue as what I wanted to do oringinally has worked I'm just a bit puzzled why the AAC files changed to mp3's all by themselves.

    I right clicked on the songs and opened them in a windows folder to see what they were and they are the same sizes as their AAC counterparts but are listed as mp3's.
    Hi Mockingjay,
    An AAC need not be a different size from an MP3.  If they are the same song duration, and the AAC and MP3 both use the same CBR (e.g., 256 kbps) they will be the same size.
    There is nothing in iTunes that would cause an AAC to spontaneously change to MP3.  Is it possible that with all the copying and substituting, something got confused?
    Also, pls note that Audacity can export an MP3, which can be added to your iTunes library.  There is no need for the intermediate WAV.

  • How make my internet open/start immediately when turn on computer?

    How make my internet open/start immediately when turn on computer?
    ps: using FFox, if it makes any difference.
    Don't think I wont't thank you, Cuz
    I will.

    Thank you verry much, HipHop.
    FFox has long been on my doc.
    I clicked it and it shows i have instructed it to 'Open at Login'.
    Same thing with Apple/Prefs/Accounts/Login items where it shows i have instructed it, and also Safari now, to Open at Login (and not checked to Hide).
    But still it never opens.
    Safari opens at login. But not Firefox.
    And it's not that the 2 are conflicting, cuz
    I had this problem with FFox long time when started this question;
    and I only just the other day added Safari to open at login cuz I was advised to try it just to see if Saf wd open on Login.
    I did contact my isp, dslextreme, but they couldn't help me other than the advice I've already gotten here, said not their specialty, that I should ask Apple or FFox (I'll try that).
    Thanks again, everybody.
    I still dream of what I will do with all the time I will save someday by not having to actually click on the FFox icon to start it. Call me a dreamer, but I'm not the only one (or am i?)
