AAC TO MP3 with no loss

I'm a DJ with 70,000+ iTunes Library and I know AAC files are a better sounding file than MP3. However, the DJ Program I want to use, Serato ScratchLive doesn't support AAC files at this time. Does anyone have a suggestion or program that could CONVERT my files to MP3 with NO LOSS until Serato catches up???
Also. my files are encoded at 160 kbps AAC. What would be the closest equal quality in MP3.
Thanks for any help....Jeff.

Jeff, I've recently had to deal with a similar issue & I haven't found a straightforward solution. I ended up re-encoding my CD's to mp3. I'd hate to have to do that with the quantity you have.
I couldn't do that with the m4p files I bought fron iTunes. The DRM was a pain, so I burned those to CD & imported them as m4a lossless. I discovered the hard way that I have to play them straight with no pitch adjustment or they crash my program (I use Megaseg) When I get time I'm going to redo them as 320 mp3. I now avoid AAC files.
Good luck

  • How to convert AAC to MP3 in iTunes

I sent a friend of mine a song in the AAC format; I had thought that format was universally acceptable. Unfortunately, my friend said that she couldn't open the file. I then thought of converting the file to the MP3 format, because I know she can read that. This gets to my question: How do you do it? When I highlighted the song and clicked on Advanced, the only option was to convert to AAC. That's when I decided to come here. Is there a way to convert AAC to MP3 with iTunes? Also, how widespread is the acceptance of AAC?

You got the process correct, it
is just that iTunes only offers you the option to
convert to whatever your preferences are currently
    set to for importing.
So go to preferences, importing, set it to MP3. then
go to your song and you can now use the "Convert
to..." option which should show MP3. Once done, go
back to preferences and switch back to AAC if that is
what you normally want to use.

That was fast. Anyway, it worked. Thanks for your help. Now, all I have to do is to work-out what combination of factors I should use to obtain the smallest possible MP3 file while maintaining decent quality. It's an individual decision. What would be okay for me, might be intolerable to others, but I want to keep all sound files less than 1 MB. Make that, "all sound files that I send". I hope that doesn't mean that I will have to keep duplicate files. We'll just have to see. Anyway, thanks again.

  • Published with audio files, AAC Okay, MP3 'No Go'

    Hello all.
I've put a couple of music, excerpts on my iWeb website; I discovered something after I published, one audio file is AAC and it loads properly on Safari on all my 3 macs (iMac at home, Office G5 via office intranet and MacBook in office with cable modem), but the audio file with MP3 has just the 'QuickTime' logo on it, you can't even play the music.
Which is "funny" because I thought with Safari and QuickTime, should be able to play all formats of music? At least AAC and MP3? The music files are all encoded or re-encoded respectively via iTunes.
I decided to use MP3 instead is I am afraid some browsers or computers (older maybe?) will not be able to play AAC files?
    Thanks and cheers

iWeb writes page code to use the QuickTime browser plug-in so it wouldn't matter what audio format was used (as long as QuickTime supports it).
The trouble is a "Fast Start" problem with your .mp3 files.
Most exports from iTunes uses the newer .m4v or .m4a file extension and they should fast start (play as the file continues to download). You should consider exporting your .mp3 files to AAC (using the same settings currently used in them).
Your page visitors would need to have QuickTime installed no matter what format you used so trying to "help" them by using .mp3 files is lost in the iWeb page coding.
You'll also realize a file size savings on most of your AAC conversions versus using MPEG-1 Layer 3 format. These smaller file sizes help speed up your download.

  • AAC or MP3??

    Hey!
I recently converted all the songs in my library using the 'Convert Selection to MP3' option in iTunes. I was just wondering whether AAC audio is better as i think it uses less space? Am I right? If so, how do you caonvert the files back to AAC?
    Thanks

AAC will produce slightly smaller files at the same bit rate but MP3 is a more compatible format if you want to use the files on other devices or make MP3 CDs for an in-car player. Also converting again from one lossy format to another will affect the sound quality. it's always preferable to re-rip from the original uncompressed format rather than converting from one lossy format to another.
You could also make two copies in MP3 and AAC of something you are familiar with and have a listen for yourself. People will have different preferences so it's always best to go by your ears: How to convert a song to a different format

  • Aac or mp3 (any other decisions?)

I'm about half way through ripping disks that never made it into my itunes library and overwriting (I guess) aac files with mp3 files for disks that were already ripped.
My thinking is that I will now be able to burn disks and if I ever wanted to play them I could. That said, I have a cassette player in the truck and a conventional dvd player for a stereo (were the cd's are when they aren't getting ripped).
Would anyone mind telling me if there are any other decisions to make, or settings to check, when ripping disks - also is mp3 a reasonable decision for me at this point?
    Thanks,
    Jon

  • CONVERT from iTunes to other FORMATS (AAC, AIFF, MP3, WAV)

Came across a problem in trying to get music purchased from iTunes to be recognized by other media players (Quicktime or Final Cut Express). I found how to get iTunes to export to cd/dvd disks in AIFF format (and other formats).
    Steps used:
    From iTunes:
Create a new playlist folder in iTunes (under file)
Drop the songs you wished to use into the playlist folder
Go to the iTunes main menu,
    select 'Preferences'
    select 'Advanced'
    select 'Import'
using "Import Using" select the format (AAC, AIFF, MP3, WAV) you desire
Input your CD/DVD disk to burn
highlight your Playlist file in iTunes that you want to convert
    select 'File' in iTunes,
    select "Burn Playlist to disc"
What you end up with is a CD/DVD with the music files in the format you selected -(I needed AIFF) from there you can use the disk or copy your converted files back into Final Cut or other software for use.
Hope this helps others having similar issues

Have you tried other formats, besides AIFF?
You can only burn purchased music to an
    b Audio CD
and the Finder will tell you the files are AIFF. Actually the files on an Audio CD are PCM, but Mac OS 'sees' them as AIFF.
You can't convert purchased music in other formats, because it's protected.

  • AAC and MP3 export settings won't work

Here's my question: I am trying to export my mixes to disk as compressed files, (aac or mp3s) but I am unable to make it happen with settings other than the defaults (good an high quality, or whatever GB calls them)
If I choose to customize my output settings with different bitrates or mono/stereo output, GB will ignore my choices and return me to the default output window and nothing really changes.
    Any solutions ??
    thanks
PS I already trashed GB's prefs...

I have had this issue as well and found this answer browsing through forums. Try renaming your file to something meaningful with using only 6 letters or so in the name. When I did this "work around" I was able to save my GB files out to the disk or desktop. Prior to that, it would do all its work, but never got the file. I was able to only export to ITUNES! I think this may be a "bug" in GB (ILIFE 08 Ver)
Try it and let us know if it works for you as well

  • Converting aac or mp3 to "media kind" podcast doesn't appear in iphone 4

Hello. I finally discovered you can convert an aac or mp3 file to media kind choosing podcasting which is great for bookmarking audio etc. I hate having to start over form a long audio file listening back. Coverting to podcast was a great solution. Now my problem is synching to my iphone 4 and making sure podcast synch is checked off, etc i see nothing in my podcast director on the phone, it says its empy, but if i go to artist and search for the name it appears under podcasts! Is this some sort of glitch with iphone 4 or new itunes? Anyone else have this problem? If i got back and convert all to "audiobooks" instead of podcasts and synch phone they appear correct in the audiobook section of the phone. I'd rather use the podcast directory but this will work for now. Thoughts? Thanks

  • How to convert iTunes (9.1.1) from AAC to MP3 for SansaDisk Fuze+?

I want to download iTunes to Sansadisk Fuze+  using PowerBook G4 OS10.4.11 and iTunes 9.1.1

  • AAC vs. mp3 vs. wma...

    So I have a dilemma.
I own both a video iPod and a Rio Karma.
My iPod won't play wma files.
My Rio Karma won't play AAC files.
    Therefore...
My iTunes has been copying all the files I add to the library and converting them into AAC.
But this now means that I have two copies of everything and I can't delete either copy because I still use both the iPod and the Rio Karma.
I've been hearing rumors that mp3 ***** vs. both AAC and wma.
I'd like to know which formats are the best because if mp3 is better, I can convert it all into mp3 and have only one file that works on both players.
    If not...
Well, I guess I'm screwed and have to keep two copies of everything... ...
Any help or insight on this problem will be greatly appreciated!!!

MP3 is a fairly old file type, while AAC and WMA are more modern. AAC is said to have higher quality than MP3, but is not compatible with some players and/or programs.
WMA is a very widely-adopted format, and has larger file sizes than AAC and MP3, so many programs/players will be able to use it, but maybe not store as many songs.
MP3 is the happy medium, because if you're songs are in MP3, they are accessible by almost ANYTHING that plays music.
    Hope this helps.

  • Why won't my playlists convert from aac to mp3

    Hi,
Never had to use the forum before as I've always previosuly been able to figure most stuff out that I needed to do, but I recently converted my whole music library from AAC format to MP3 (so that I can burn an MP3 disc to play in my car) with no problem using the "Advanced" tab and "Convert to MP3 format" tab.
(I've also changed my settings now so that all downloads are set to MP3 as well to stop this happening ever again!.)
However, I then tried to do the same for my playlists, but it just doesn't work for those using the "Convert to MP3 format" facility - even though it doers actually give the impression of doing so. i.e. It appears to be converting the songs and I even get a confimation tone when it's suppossedly finished converting the playlist, but the playlist still shows it's "Kind" as AAC,  and hasn't converted it at all!
The only way that I can find to do it is to delete the playlist (after printing out a copy of the playlist) and then manually re-creating the whole playlist again by dragging each song individually from the library! Which I obviously don't really want to do as I've got a lot of playlists and that would be very laborious and would quite frankly be a ridiclous thing to have to do again (especially after doing it already for the library).
Am I missing something here, expecting too much or just being thick?? Any one have a solution for this please?

Thank you, absolutely brilliant, I knew there had to be an easier way to do this!!! And also thank you so much for the really quick response too!
It took me less than a minute to do this for the first playlist and I'll now easily be able to do the same for all the other playlists - saving me potentially hours if I'd had to do it using the other way.
In case anyone is unaware, there is one further little tip once you have converted the playlist from AAC to MP3 and sorted by "Date Added". Press and hold Shift, then highlight (the first song) and scroll to the last song (which will then highlight all the songs that you've just converted) and then simply drag them to a new playlist - voila, job done!

  • How do i convert a voice memo into MP3 with itunes 12?

I need to convert a voice memo into MP3 with itunes 12.

Today, I emailed myself an .m4a voice recording from an Android smartphone that had created that sound file minutes earlier.
After opening that email message, I saved the .m4a sound file (a whopping 352 KB) to my Mac (iMac 21.5 inch running Yosemite).
Clicking on the sound file's icon launched iTunes (version 12.0.1.26), which then did nothing no matter what I tried.
However, when I selected the file on the desktop and navigated to the Finder/File/Open With dropdown window, a dialog box opened with alternative applications to use for opening the sound file. The available applications shown were VLC, QuickTime Player, Flip Player, and RealPlayer. I was pleased to find that VLC, QuickTime, Flip Player, and RealPlayer each opened and played the file straightforwardly and flawlessly.
Apparently, Flip Player Pro (which I do not own) has a "save as" feature that might help you convert the file to the format you desire.

  • How to convert lossless audio files in itunes to AAC or mp3 in itunes 10

i noticed some files won't upload to my kids older ipod shuffle (2nd). they are the larger less or uncompressed file types.
i've got itunes 10 and there is no way to convert the files to AAC or mp3 that i can see. these are files in my library. i would like to create a playlist for his ipod in AAC: from library to playlist

This explains how to covert song files.  It works in iTunes 10.  You set the import preference to the file type you want and the Advanced menu > Create  XXX Version will change to match.

You can download whatever you want by signing into your own account, but what ever was previously installed with the other account will be forever associated with that account. This will work until the apps that aren't yours need updating and the only way to update them will be to sign in with other I'd.

  • 5800 shows wrong track length for MP3s with VBR

I have a Nokia 5800 "XpressMusic" with the current firmware 20.0.012.
Yesterday I converted some CDs using Nokias Music Software (shipping with the mobile).
I converted the CDs to MP3 with VBR 256KB/s.
When i play them on the 5800 a song with i.e. 3:50min length shows about 14:05min length.
When i try to scroll forward i can only do that in the first few mm up to where 3:50 would be. If i go beside that border it jumps to the end and skips the title.
Shouldn't a mobile with the name "XpressMusic" be able to display the real track length of a MP3 with VBR???
