Aargh!!! 1417 error the 1418 - what? "not enough access privileges" !!???!!

I have an older IPOD 15gb touch wheel. For 6 months I have been unable to connect to itunes - and I am at my wits end!!! I receive an error stating I cant sync because i dont have enough access privileges.
I tried reinstalling itunes and now get the 1417 error - created the .bat file to enable a restore but when doing that get a 1418 error..... Please help I have tried what has been suggested and if that is it then I now have one useless IPOD
I have a collection of screenshots if it is any help!!!
BTW - I use a firewire pcmcia adapter to connect to my IBM x60s which is running XP prof'.

I have recently encountered the error "insufficient access privileges" when trying to sync an iPod Video on my wife's computer which previously had synced with no problems. I reset the access privileges in the info window for iTunes but the problem continued. It turns out the problem access privileges were those of iPhoto which were set incorrectly after a system crash. The hang up was when it tried to sync the photos. Once I set these properly, the iPod synced with no problem. Don't know if this helps you.

I made screen shots without any problem. I saved them through MS Paint without any memory problem, while Photoshop in parallel was just used as a static image for snapping...

Yes. The disk drive has too much data on it. You are either going to have to move some to other disk drives or delete some.

I'm having a very similar problem, so I was excited to see the link above. But when I click on it, it redirects me to the nike.com main website (I'm assuming Nike redid their website since the above link was posted). Could you please point me to that article somewhere else or tell me how you fixed your problem?
My exact problem is this: I was running until recently with my iPod Nano 6th gen and the Nike+ sensor kit (sensor that goes in the Nike+ shoe plus receiver that goes in the iPod Nano). When I would sync my Nano with iTunes (I would have the "Automatically send workout data to nikeplus.com" option checked), all was well with this set-up as far as syncing my stuff to the Nike+ website goes.
I recently realized that for the iPod Nano 6th generation, the sensor/receiver combo is not required anymore. So I ran two runs without the receiver. I kept the sensor in the shoe though as nowadays I mostly run with my recently purchased Nike+ Sport GPS watch and I like to have the sensor in the shoe in case the GPS signal gets lost at some point during a run. Anyway, those two runs that I ran without the receiver won't sync to my nikeplus account. I can see them in my iPod Nano's history and I can see one of them (the latest one) on the Nike + iPod tab of iTunes when I sync my Nano. The difference though is that on iTunes this latest run appears under a "Sensor 1" selection, whereas all my previous runs with both the sensor and receiver would be under "Nike + Sensor" selection. Within the "Nike + Sensor" selection, under nikeplus.com, there's the "Automatically send workout data to nikeplus.com" option and below it a Login ID that shows my Nike+ website log-in info. Within the "Sensor 1" selection, the Login ID is missing. I've tried renaming "Sensor 1" to something else but it didn't make the Login ID appear.

I am having the same problem. I had been able to sync with no problem but I changed some of the System Preferences for syncing two computers with Mobile Me. Now I can only sync the iPod Touch if I use the advance features in the Info panel to replace all of the items on iPod Touch. That works the next time I sync but I get the subject message when I try to sync again.

OK .... my G5 went belly up and Apple said that I had to wipe and reinstall. Even the archive and install didn't work. So I did. I was able to transfer most of my programs from my laptop over to the reformatted G5 with nno probem. Unfortunately, the backups that I had done with Mac's Backup program after March do not seem to want to install. ::;whimper::
In any case, I keep running into permissions errors.
For example, when I try to update my podcasts in iTunes, I get the following error:
"You do not have enough access privileges for this operation. Please check that the URL is correct and the connection to the network is active and try again."

Anybody? What does it mean. How do I fix it?

Run Disk Utility (in Applications/Utilities), select your HD and choose 'Repair Disk Permissions'.
DU will fix all application permissions. It will not fix permission problems in your Home (your username) folder.
If problems persist, let us know.

When trying to sync my ipad and iphone with my PC i get this error message "Cannot be sybced. You do not have enough access privileges for this operation". I have a new PC but i have successfully synced these devices before. can anybody please help ?

Just thought I'd put out an update on my problem. It has been solved. I spoke to a tech at Apple at 1-800-275-2279. She had me try a few things that didn't help. Her last suggestion was to uninstall QuickTime and iTunes then reload. She sent me the uninstall instructions at http://www.info.apple.com/kbnum/n93698 which I followed. When speaking to her I told her I was afraid to do this because I saw other people on the discussion board who tried this and lost all of their music. She assured me that that wouldn't happen. I did the uninstall then the install. (Just a note here, I also read on the message board that someone said that to cure this problem you should do the install then open up QuickTime before opening iTunes. I did this also but don't really know if it made a difference.
Bottom line is I uninstalled QuickTime and itunes per the instructions at the site shown above. I then installed both again from www.apple.com/itunes/download. After the download I ran the install and unchecked the box to let itunes start after the install. I then opened Quicktime then closed it. I then opened iTunes and all of my music was there and I didn't get the anoying "iTunes is not set as the default player" and the error after trying to set it. The problem described in my first posting of copying CD's is also gone. So beleive it or not, EVERYTHING is working just like it should. Some of the above steps might not be required but I would follow them step by step because I know they worked for me.

This refers to permissions on your computer which must have been changed. Start by using Disk Utility to repair permissions. Then do the following:
Reset User Permissions and ACLs in Lion/Mountain Lion
Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
From the Utilities menu select Terminal. At the Terminal prompt enter: resetpassword. Press RETURN. When the window opens select your startup drive where it says "Select the volume containing the user account:" At the bottom of the window you will see, "Reset Home folder permissions and ACLs." Click on the Reset button.

I have a dual boot WinXP Pro & Vista Ultimate laptop (ThinkPad X60) on separate HDDs. Have loaded iTunes 8.02 on both drives in both OS's. No problem synching my iPhone in iTunes in WinXP. However, in Vista, I can back up, but cannot synch, the iPhone (which is a 3G, acquired in August 2008, and it has Software 2.2). IPod 4th Gen iOS 4.3.3 wont update to iOS 5.1.1 (Not enough access privileges)

Today. I thought that i should update my iPod as my iPod was beginning to become obsolete.
So, i went to update, agreed to all of the agreements and stuff like that, and then a error message popped up.
It said, "There was a problem downloading the software for the iPod "<my iPod's name>'s iPod". You do not have enough access privileges for this operation."
Why? It's my iPod?! I should have all of the privileges to it anyway!

ITunes launch FAIL - Not enough access privileges for this operation

Every time I launch iTunes I get this useless error coming up:
"You do not have enough access privileges for this operation"

I'm not too bad at understanding UNIX so this made be feel that it was a privileges issue. I made sure that everything was chowned -R correctly to my user and the correct group that makes everything else work. Not working still. I checked chmod also, and checked with apple documentation what that should be, still not working.
I then felt that instead of manually playing around with permissions I should get apple to do it for me, so I opened up Disk Utility and ran Repair Disk Permissions, still not working.
I then booted into the OSX live CD, did a Repair Disk, rebooted, still not working.
I then found some official Apple documentation on how to completely uninstall and reinstall iTunes on a Mac. I performed every step TO THE LETTER. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1224 after this lengthy process I reinstalled iTunes to find that it is still not working.
I've also tried the command open /Applications/iTunes.app and done that with sudo to get around any permission issues, still not working.
Seriously Apple, people shouldn't have to be a power user to launch iTunes or read an error report. What's wrong with this?

This is really terrible programming actually. Come on Apple, IF the directory doesn't exist THEN create it after a password prompt. This is just sloppy and careless. If that's too hard then change the error message to say something useful.
The guy in the other thread has to REINSTALL OSX to get this to work because of terrible programming. This wastes tons of my time, why doesn't it "just work"?

Not enough access privileges to download from itunes

After installing Leopard, I started receiving an error message whenever I tried to download music or tv episodes directly from ITunes. I receive an error message stating that I "do not have enough access privileges for this operation. Please check that the connection to the network is active and try again". The connection to my network is fine. I called Apple twice and they had me run a disc utility from my Leopard disk which worked, but two days later I am now receiving the same error message. I try to run the disc utility again, but it is not working now. This is extremely frustrating. I never had this issue with iTunes prior to installing Leopard.

I am having the exact same problem only since installing Leopard. This weekend I spent three hours--nearly all of it on hold--with Apple support and all I got was the suggestion to run the disk utility.
On a sidenote, Time Machine has stopped working as well and since that is the only reason I bought Leopard in the first place...can anyone tell me how to uninstall Leopard and go back to what I had before?

Not enough access privileges

An administrator account on my mac is prompted with the message "You do not have enough access privileges for this operation" when attempting to import a cd to iTunes or download music from the iTunes Music Store. The primary Admin account works just fine. What am I doing wrong? The user is an admin, shouldn't they have full permissions?

Help. I'm having the exact same problem that Kevinpk reports on my 10.5.5 Macbook Pro. My primary admin account is also fine. I get the error message only when importing certain disks such as Nirvana Nevermind. When I called Apple they dismissed the problem as copywriting protection. However Nirvana Nevermind will import fine on other Macs with iTunes. Furthermore this problem has happened on a double jazz cd set where one disk imported fine then the other did not! I tried a workaround of importing Nirvana Nevermind on another mac using mp3 (not aac) and then tryed to import into my iTunes. Still rejected! I've checked and double checked my user permissions and all is set to read/write. I also set it to apply to all subfolders but nothing works. One thing is my account name (which is an admin account) and user name are named differently. Is this a problem? Do I need to reinstall iTunes? Leopard? This is driving me mad! Please help. Thanks.
