Aargh - DW deleted all site definitions

Hi there
I've just installed DW8 without any problems - the whole
process was smooth
and all site definitions were ported across.
I then (as instructed) went on to delete DWMX2004 and 'bang'
suddenly all my
site definitions are gone from DW8 and I'm back to square one
I did do a backup of the DW MX2004 site profiles etc using
the MM-Exporter
tool (just in case) but trying to use this to recreate in DW8
doesn't work
as it says there are loads of files missing which it needs (I
guess from the
DW MX 2004 installation)
Can anyone shed any words of wisdom before I have to go
through and
reconfigure 60 or 70 site definitions?
Thanks
Jos

What? The exporter works with DMX2004 to DW8. What kind of
errors did you
get? To tell you the truth, I haven't used it since DW began
doing exports
of multiple sites, which works just fine.

  • Site manager in CS3 deleted all sites

I am currently working in dreamweaver cs3 for the mac on
Leopard. Today the software decided to delete all of my sites in
site manager. I don't know ow but it did. I still have several of
the sites in Dreamweaver 8. Is there a way to export the
information into the latest version? If so, please advise.
    Thank you

Site > Manage Sites. Select the first site, shift-click
    the last site to
select them all, and click Export. This creates .ste files
    that you can
then import into CS3, using the Import button in the Site
    Management
    dialog box.

  • All site definitions gone in DW CS4

I'm using CS4 on a Mac running OS10.5.6. I accidentally removed one site, went into Time Machine and recovered it, then next time I started up CS4 ***all*** my sites are gone -- some 30 sites. I still have CS3 running (I have to support others here at work with older versions), so I can go and export some of the sites from CS3, but there are still many sites that were only built in CS4. Any idea on how to get these back? Is there a file I can restore from Time Machine that might contain that? I read the previous posts regarding missing site definitions, but they refer to the PC registry - not a solution for a Mac user. Help! Thanks for any suggestions.

You're a star, David! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

  • CS3 quit and lost all site definitions

I wasn't doing anything out of the ordinary when Dreamweaver
CS3 suddenly quit. When I relaunched the app, all my site
definitions were gone. Any idea why or how I can get them back?

Had you EXPORTED your site definitions previously? If not,
    you may be out
    of luck.
It's always a good idea to keep a backup of your site
    definitions by
EXPORTing them from Site Manager to cover you for just this
    kind of thing.

  • A way to import all site definitions into CS4 from MX2004?

Is there a way to do this? I have the site definition
registry keys backed up for MX2004. Is there a way to load these
    all at once into CS4?
I appreciate any help you can give me!

    MX2004 didn't have this capability.

I wouldn't try this, as the key ID would be different.

  • Site Definition losing FTP User ID and Password

    My configuration:
    iMac 2.4 GHz Intel C2D
    10.6.1 Snow Leopard
    DW v10 (Build 4117)
Not sure if my issue is related to the one described in this thread.
I recently performed a clean install of Snow Leopard and DW. Afterwards I imported my site definitions and everything was fine. On quiting and then re-opening DW the FTP User ID and (optionally Password) in the site sefinition(s) have disappeared. I re-entered them and am able to connect to my site(s) via FTP, but again on closing and re-opening DW the information has disappeared again.
    What I've done;
    - deleted and re-configured all Site Definitions several times.
    - deleted the ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Dreamweaver CS4/en_US/Configuration/ folder
    but still the problem persists.
Not sure if this a Snow Leopard/DW incompatibility issue, but I do recall this happening maybe once or twice with Leopard.
Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

    I beleive this happens if:
    - you are using a trial version
    - you don't enter your keychain password to record this information
I lost my kechain passwordon my mac,and i have to reenter password and FTP info everytime. Very frustrating util I can find the time to figure out how to reset my Mac keychain password.

  • PHP Site Definition

Greetings! I accidentally deleted my site definition in DW CS4 and now can't remember how to define the url of the site's root folder. The site displays properly in DW's File tab and the pages display properly in design view but when I F12 to display in IE8 I get this; Object not found! The requested URL was not found on this server. If you entered the URL manually please check your spelling and try again. If you think this is a server error, please contact the webmaster. Error 404 localhost 12/21/11 19:49:44 Apache/2.2.21 (Win32) mod_ssl/2.2.21 OpenSSL/1.0.0e PHP/5.3.8 mod_perl/2.0.4 Perl/v5.10.1 The site is located in c:\xampp\htdocs\Milica I thought the url was http://localhost/xampp/htdocs/Milica but it doesn't work. Any suggestions? Do I have to change something in the xampp settings? Is the url wrong? Thanks!

The HTDocs folder on a XAMPP installation is where the localhost is served from.  So:
    http://localhost/Milica = C:\xampp\htdocs\Milica

  • Lost Site Definitions

    Hi All,
Using Dreamweaver CS3 & Mac OS 10.4.11, so no Time Machine
Opened DW this morning and ALL site definitions gone. Have some of them backed up to .ste so can recover them easily, only about 25% though.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks
    Niall

Yes, check the Dreamweaver FAQ. You'll be surprised what you can find in there. You're in luck because you're on a Mac. Windows users who fail to export their site definitions won't be so fortunate.

  • How can I change remote site definition without breaking all of the links?

I've created a website and put it here http://home.comcast.net/~alpsf/index.html to test it during construction.  Now when I change the remote site definition on the local site in DW, all of the links are broken.  I now suspect the problem is that I made it site root-relative, and DW inserted /~alpsf/ in all of the links.  Is there a way to fix this?
    Thanks very much.

You can do a find and replace to change the links globally. Make sure you do a complete backup of the site prior to doing this incase you don't do it correctly. Let me stress that again, backup your entire site incase you need to restore. If you have created a "new site" and this will not be part of the /~alpsf site, then you will need to define a new site and copy all the files into that folder (I am guessing this is the case). I would copy the files outside of Dreamweaver. You could do this without touching the files in the ~alpsf directory. There are a lot of variable here as I don't know exactly what you are doing.
On the file menu select window/results-select search. (this is done if the search window is not open).
Find in: Entire Current Local Site
    Search: Source Code
    Find: "/~alpsf/
    Replace:"/
That should do it, but this is a very tricky thing. I wouldn't have a problem doing this as long as I have everything backed up.
    Jim
Edited:You might have to go into your css, spry files and any others that has links to do the same (this time only select Find in: Current document once the document is open). Once that is done, delete the whole remote site and upload the changes once you check that everything is completed.

  • Dreamweaver has deleted all my sites in the 'manage site' box! any reason why?

Strangely enough, dreamweavers 'manage site' box has deleted all my sites - both local and server info totally wiped out. I have to reinstall my sites and their following details for the sites to be reconnected again! I never seem to have this problem with fixed software, just wondering as its on cloud whether there is any outside influence

Cloud software is exactly the same as perpetual licensed software.  The only difference is how you pay for it.  When your site definition settings go haywire, it's often caused by a corrupted cache or personal configuration folder.

  • Corrupt site definitions where to delete?

    Hi,
After many rounds of uninstall then install Dreamweaver I have come to the conclusion that my site definitions are corrupt and need to go.
Yes, it will be a pain in the neck to redo them, but as it is anytime I go to "Manage Sites" make a change and click done all I get is the good old spinning wheel. And it will spin all night if I let it.
Since I installed OS X 10.6 when I exit Dreamweaver it hangs and eventually I give up and do a forced quit to get out of it an on with life. Now when I do anything to the site information it's the same thing.
I have deleted everything I can find that links to Dreamweaver after running the uninstall but when I reinstall I'm still in the same place.
Any clues what to delete and where it is located?
I am running Dreamweaver CS4 on MacBook Pro 2.66 ghz 4gb ram OX 10.6
    Thanks,

When you uninstall Dreamweaver, it does not normally delete your personal configuration folder, which also contains the site cache file. Try deleting the cache file. Instructions are in JavaScript and other unexpected errors in the Dreamweaver FAQ.

I just downloaded the latest version of firefox (5.0). Can I delete all the older versions that are still on my drive?
When I call up some web sites sometimes the web site comes up 3 or 4 times...how do I stop this from happening? For example if I click on a link the exact same link comes up 3 or 4 times and I have to manually delete all of them but one.

Do you organise your email into separate folders, or do you just let it accumulate in the Inbox?
I would strongly advise you not to let it sit in the Inbox.
When you see this happening, try right-click on the affected folder, select '''Properties''' then '''Repair Folder'''.
Large folders (actually, a folder in Thunderbird is stored as a file, so it is sensitive to file size limits set by the underlying file system) can be problematic. This is one reason not to let messages collect in one folder. I use Thunderbird's Archive folders so that accumulated mails over several years can happily coexist because they are effectively stored in many small folders. No single mail store folder then exceeds the 2GB or 4GB sizes that have been known to stress the OS. I appreciate that current builds of Thunderbird and a modern 64-bit OS should be able to cope, but practically I find it slows down when given huge files, so I err towards a pragmatic solution; a large number of not very big files.
Archives are searchable, and a Saved Search folder can give you a virtual composite folder allowing access to the entire Archive.

  • How can I delete all components of Firefox 8 for Mac. Again...all components and hidden files. (YES, I did check the Moz web site but the page was essentially blank

i use the firefox4, and when i went to my history, i right clicked to delete a certain site, and accidentally hit the last option; (forget about this site) which deleted all the similar sites to the one i clicked! i.e. if it were facebook site, all facebook sites were gone..
'''how do i retrieve the sites i lost in history?'''

Tony, thnx for the prompt response,,
however, i didn't delete. i hit the below option which reads; "forget about this site" which is the last item in the list that appears when you right click any site in history.
i was told there are open source programs that can retrieve it.
'''how sure r u that they cannot be recovered?!'''
