Abandoned soul

WIth latest 10.5.2 OSX installed, updated, and running well on my MacPro, hundreds of images would not import from iPhoto into Aperture 2.0. No common element. jpegs, raws, horz, verts all random. Aperture says those not compatible but iPhoto viewer in Aperture shows entire iPhoto library. (Note, I've only retouched via duplicate about 5 images in iPhoto. Most went strait from camera into iPhoto and that is about it.)
I've posted the problem here and on the Apple forum on dpreview and got no answer or suggestion on how to find the answer.
I also emailed Apple customer support - twice. No answer.
I've used Apple products since 1985. I'm not a Mac fanatic but have owned or used now dozens of Macs at school, at home, and at work because they tend to be reliable and are easy for non tech people to manage plus the software my profession used is Mac based.
I feel really let down and left out in the cold with this horrible release which I have been unable to use and get excited about because half my iPhoto library won't import and I did nothing wrong and no one, including Apple has an answer to help me out.

*So... here is my latest and I think, most likely theory as to why many images would not go from iPhoto to Aperture 2.0:*
*Aperture does not read .JPE files (which is what my DSLR produces, apparently, instead of .JPEG) and this is apparently the root of the troubles. Who knew there was even a difference?! What is the difference? As you will read further down, the existence of these three letters on the end of the file name does not in itself preclude Aperture importing the file. So, some under the hood stuff must also be going on with JPE being different enough from JPEG that Aperture does not read it.*
+from Aperture 2.0 manual:+
+File Formats You Can Import into the Library+
+Aperture is a QuickTime-compatible application, so it supports standard+
+QuickTime-compatible still-image file formats, as well as some other file formats+
+and file types. The following file types and formats can be imported:+
GIF
JPEG
JPEG2000
PNG
+PSD (8- and 16-bit)+
DNG
+RAW files from a variety of supported digital cameras+
+TIFF (8- and 16-bit)+
*I simply cannot believe Apple made a product that reads JPEG and not JPE. It is so un-Mac like!*
*To add insult to injury, iPhoto has no problem with this issue as all my JPE images work fine in iPhoto.*
*I'm in denial but, I think the evidence that this is the issue is that Aperture did import some JPE files - but only vertical images which I made vertical in iPhoto (my camera does not auto orient images). These are apparently re-saved by iPhoto as JPEG (except the extension .JPE still remains in the name - even in Aperture! so it must be under the hood conversion)*
*I guess I need to find software that will make .JPE images into .JPEG images with out altering the files before I import into Aperture. Adobe Camera RAW converter to DNG?*
*Ugh. Maybe Adobe Lightroom is the simple answer - but I am not even sure if that opens JPE.*

    You can force quit applications
    >Force quit
if that does not work you can force quit a computer shut down by hold the power button for an extended period.

  • Photos does not support external editing like iPhoto. Is there likely to be an upgrade to change this or will I abandon Photos for software that does support editing in Photoshop?

Photos does not support external editing like iPhoto. Is there likely to be an upgrade to change this or will I abandon Photos for software that does support editing in Photoshop?

iPhoto does work and there is an upgrade:
Go to the App Store and check out the Purchases List. If iPhoto is there then it will be v9.6.1
If it is there, then drag your existing iPhoto app (not the library, just the app) to the trash
Install the App from the App Store.
Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.

One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.

  • Do I need to abandon Thunderbird because too slow.

I have been using Thunderbird for many years under Windows XP Professional.
There were no problems and there was a quick response from the programme.
My bank forced me to abandon Window XP. I choose for Windows 8., which I installed on my old computer. I installed Thunderbird and I managed to get my e-mail and address book back, but probably not in the proper way.
Thunderbird turned out to be slow in downloading mails and responding to clicks and double cliks.
I decided to buy a new computer with Windows 8.1.
I installed Thunderbird 31.2.0 and transferred my e-mail and address book.
Again Thunderbird turned out to be slow.
From your help I found out that I should have used a different way of transferring the data.
Therefore I de-installed Thunderbird, made a back-up of the data on a stick, deleted the data.
I re-installed Thunderbird and transferred the data in the proper way, but Thunderbird is still slow.
The question is: Do I need to change some setting? Or any other actions.
The attached document (Thunderbird) contains four print screens.
At the top of the four pages from Thunderbird you will find the following text: (reageert niet) = (does not respond).
In the first print screen I was moving an e-mail (marked blue) from the Inbox (Postvak In) to the folder Kempen-CvKs (marked blue). The e-mail was not immediately moved and the programme stalled.
In the second print screen I double clicked an e-mail to enlarge it. No immediate response and the programme stalled.
In the third print screen I clicked on the Inbox (Postvak In). No immediate response and the programme stalled.
In the fourth print screen the programme stalled while downloading mail. You can see in the bottom line on the screen.
I would like to get some help.
    Best regards,
    Roelof Haak
PS I could not add a document with the print sceens.

    please see this. https://wiki.mozilla.org/Thunderbird:Testing:Antivirus_Related_Performance_Issues#McAfee
Unfortunately McAfee do not appear to be capable of releasing a version of their software that does not stall Thunderbird until one of their support people tweak the McAfee installation.

  • Abandoned Lightroom 1.0 - my list of critical showstoppers

I have seen several recent examples of users venting on this forum but sadly, I have to symphatise as in my own experience the quality of the Lightroom 1.0 release, specifically the library module does in fact justify this level of frustration.
I was looking forward to Lightroom becoming the new gold standard and the app that I would spend days and nights in when I was not out shooting. As it is I have abandoned my trial with Lightroom after three days. I never got past the Library module (and since Ligthroom can't function without a library that sealed it's fate).
    The stability showstoppers:
    - Importing with generating previews always crashed after few thousand images, no option to generate 1:1 previews during import completely baffling*
    - Importing without generating previews would randomly not import some of the images, deleting the library and starting again would cause a DIFFERENT set of images to be randomly not imported - no reason given, the images that could not be imported could be opened just fine in Camera Raw and Bridge would happily generate previews for them
    - Generating previews after importing always crashed after a few thousand images
    - Frequent out of memory errors
That's just the MAJOR stability issues. Then there is performance (I have about 30,000 images, not that I could ever import all of them into Lightroom...)
And then there are the functional showstoppers:
    - I will absolutely NOT trust Adobe with my images or my metadata (not after the fiasco with Bridge corruping it's caches in EVERY release to date or the issues with files that were renamed on import getting corrupted, and an application that comes with a built in tool to check for library corruption doesn't exactly inspire confidence either) so I import in place and want all of my metadata to be stored in *.xmp files. BUT WHY OH WHY does generating previews cause Lightroom to write out an *.xmp file for every file it generated a preview for!?! Even Bridge was smart enough to only write out *.xmp files when I actually did something to the image!
    - Since there is no way to disable 'folder aggregation', the folders view is usessless for trying to organize images. Try this, take a folder with 1000 images, create three subfolders and try to organize the images into subfolders. Every time you click on the parent folder you see all 1000 images. You have no idea which ones you've already moved and which are still in the parent.
    - Why can't renaming 'files' just rename the files in the file system!?! Since Lightroom is NOT a browser it MUST NOT force me to organize / rename my images outside of it since it then looses track of the files.
Yes, I have logged all of these issues with Adobe. Have I heard anything from Adobe? No. Lightroom has been out for FOUR months. Given all of the stability problems that have been widely reported you would expect that a company that is in touch with it's users would in fact react and put out a couple dot-dot releases (1.0.1, 1.0.2) to address the stability showstoppers. That would at least enable them to get a feel if they're in fact addressing the most severe issues that their user base is experiencing. But no they chose to put their heads in the sand and pretend the users are happy and continue working on adding new functionality. Here is what's going to happen. They'll release 1.1 and half my showstoppers will still be there. And who knows how long we'll have to wait before the next release comes out.
*Yes, I am aware how much disk space 1:1 previews would use but I don't care, I have a 30" screen and I have no problem throwing disk space, cpu power or machine time at the problem but I ABSOLUTELY REFUSE to waste my own time waiting for Lightroom to perform processing 'on the fly' that could have been performed in bulk while I sleep.
    Yours Extremely Frustrated,
    Cezary

    Lee,
With all due respect, I think that you're still missing my point and in doing so I believe you're making my case stronger! The disclaimer is that I don't apply any metadata to the image during importing (my camera already embedded my name in every raw file and keywording at this point doesn't make sense in my workflow).
The application of defaults is EXACTLY why I don't want the *.xmp files written out until 'I' have manually modified the image in some way. Applying the tone curve is great example. So today Lightroom applies a medium curve. Maybe tomorrow version 1.1 is going to get smarter and apply different curves depending on the contrast of the image (or some other default behavior will change, like what happend to the Shadows slider in Bridge 1.x, it used to default to 0, now it defaults to 5). But then we have the question of compatibility! Which images should it apply the new smarter defaults to? The natural choice is: images that the user modified should stay the same, new images and those that have not been modified in any way should automatically benefit from the new defaults. Comitting to defaults at the time of importing seems completely unnecessary. If they're defaults, why write them out at ALL? I wouldn't mind as much if the *.xmp files were 'empty' so to speak. But if I recall correctly, the're not, they include all the ACR settings at 'current' default level as if I manually set them.
As for 'What's the point of importing your images into the LR database if this is the case?'. I never said I like it using a database but I appreciate the pros and cons of this approach. I would use Bridge instead but it has a different showstopper: the generated previews are too low quality to judge image sharpness (see BreezeBrowser in High Quality mode for what a preview should look like, I posted about this in the Bridge forum recently). The low quality previews are THE reason I am looking at Lightroom but of course it also promises to be 'so much more' than Bridge.
Of all the issues that I consider to be showstoppers in the library module of Lightroom 1.0 this is the least important and I will agree to disagree with you. If 1.1 fixes the stability issues, improves performance and delivers a usable interface for managing files and folders that keeps them consistent with the file system I'll be happy to give Lightroom another shot even if it means *.xmp files being generated for every image as it's imported.

    Hi
Are scripts configured to redirect calls outside UCCX ?
Then make sure these are set to consult transfers. Normally if they are not set that way reports show those calls as abandoned.
    Hope This helps

  • UCCX 9.0(2) - CUIC Reports Call Abandoned calls inconsistencies

    Hi,
We are finding that the there are inconsistencies in the abandons figures shown for a CSQ report for 'Contact Service Queue Activity Report' and the calls that are shown in the 'Abandoned Call Detail Activity Report'.
For example if I view a CSQ in  'Contact Service Queue Activity Report' I see that there are 18 calls abandon today with 9 dequeued.  However I when run  'Abandoned Call Detail Activity Report', I can only see 4  calls showing for that CSQ.  Before I got to TAC with this has anyone else seen this?

    Hello Saeed, Kiarash,
Page 212 on this document explains why.
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cust_contact/contact_center/crs/express_7_0/programmin...
Q.Why do the number of abandoned calls shown on the Abandoned Call  Detail Activity Report and the number of calls shown on the Contact  Service Queue Activity Report not match?
A.These values can differ  because a Contact Queue Detail record may mark a call as dequeued while a  Contact Call Detail record marks the call as abandoned. For example,  consider the following workflow:
    Start
    Accept
    Prompt
    Select Resource
    -Connect
    -Queue
    --Play Prompt (Prompt2)
    --Dequeue
    --Play Prompt (Prompt3)
    End
If  a call is abandoned during Prompt2 or Prompt3, the Contact Queue Detail  record will mark the call as dequeued but not abandoned from any queue.  The Contact Call Detail record will mark the call abandoned.
In this  case, the Contact Service Queue Activity Report will show the call as  dequeued from all CSQs for which the call was routed. The Abandoned Call  Detail Activity Report will show the call as abandoned from all from  all CSQs for which the call was routed.
Another reason is that the call gets aborted after being in the queue.
Such  calls get marked as aborted in the Contact Call Detail record, and as  dequeued (if it was dequeued before aborting)/abandoned in Contact Queue  Detail record. In this case the CSQ reports will display more abandoned  calls than the Abandoned Call Detail Activity Report.
    Thank you,
    Shadi

  • Has EMBED Flash problem in IE caused sites to abandon Flash?

Apparently this problem has been around for a while and
    several sites
that used Flash for slideshows on their homepages seem to be
    using ajax
now. I didn't realize that there was some eolas patent issue
    that
Microsoft activex was violating. I finally found a site that
    explained
how to add Flash with a javascript, but am wondering if other
    webmasters
just decided to remove their Flash content and used ajax or
    something
else? Given that Microsoft is trying to push Silverlight it
    appears
suspicious that this embed problem has come up recently. Is
    this just
another attempt by Microsoft to include issues in their
    products that
interfere with the products of other companies?

Ajax is much easier to update to none Flash Savvy users.
    Perhaps going back and
forth to a designer asking him to update a slide show is not
    something some like
    to do.
I wouldn't assume flash it's going to be abandoned because of
    such a minor
issue, in fact I see with the release of Flash 9 player and
    now flash 10 and latest
Flash authoring tool out the corner, flash only intensify
    it's present online.
Papervision is almost everywhere, Audi A5 - A Rhythm of
Lines, Sony BRAVIA, Canon EOS 400D,
HBO Voyeur, Nike Sweet Spots and lots more. More and more
    people are asking specifically
for suites built with this new environment.
Adobe solved the EMBED problem almost as soon as it appeared.
    Flash not automatically generates
JS file and your object embed tags accordingly. There is also
    very popular swfobject that
most of us use instead of the Adobe's methods...
    > Is this just
    > another attempt by Microsoft to include issues in their
    products that
    > interfere with the products of other companies?
The embed did not just effected Flash but many other
    technologies. On top of it
MS lost rather substantial amount of money in the EMBED
patent case so I wouldn't think
it was to suppress one and promote another product.

  • Abandoned Mac OS Server as PDC

We bought a dual 2.3 XServe in hopes of using it to replace an aging NT PDC and File server. I thought of going a couple different directions (another Windows box, a linux box with Samba,etc.). When I heard Apple had a product that incorporated OpenLDAP and Samba with an elegant gui and ACL support, the idea sounded very appealing. I installed it in a test environment and everything seemed to work nicely. I convinced my boss to fork out the 6 grand+ and we bought one.
Then, after weeks of preparation, we implemented it. What a disaster. We couldn't keep Samba running for more than 30 minutes. I had finally had to setup a cron job to reset the server every 20 minutes (which temporarily disconnected everyone). Our VPN server would no longer authenticate. Our Macs could no longer access our exchange server via IMAP/POP. And our 64 bit PC's could no longer login to the domain due to an RPC error. We also had several accounts that migrated from our PDC that couldn't access their Exchange accounts because their Samba SID's didn't get moved into the LDAP directory.
The most frustrating part about it is that I found threads discussing most of these problems in the Samba groups dating back to 2002 and 2003. All of the fixes were implemented YEARS ago. Samba 3.0.10, which Apple is still using in 10.4.3 was released in December of 2004. That's insane.

After spending a very long day doing the migration and another 3 painful days trying to make everything work, I finally decided it wasn't worth it. In my office we have about 15 PC's and 3 macs and it was a total disaster. We couldn't keep track of all the complaints. I can't imagine what it would have been like in large corporation or campus.
So I think Apple has a big problem with their OSX Server line (obviously). They've taken these wonderful open-source products, patched on a bunch of nice proprietary stuff that they won't release back into the main fork, and then they have no way of cleanly incorporating the thousands of patches and fixes that are being developed daily by the rest of the world.
I think it's destined to become a perfect example of why open-source projects should refuse to allow their work to be sucked up by commercial companies looking to profit from the hard work of others without giving anything back.

Why Apple continues to let this problem go is beyond me. It has been going on for Months now. I too have abandoned OS X and am going back to Windows. It's a shame that they can't make their Server product on par with their client version. It WILL get a bad reputation in the IT industry if this continues. Specially for people trying to migrate slowly from the Windows Platform to OS X one piece at a time. Such as setup the OS X server as a PDC for your windows clients and then slowly as the Windows clients need replacing, replace them with OS X clients. Too bad Apple doesn't get it.

  • I bought Steve brookstien album heart and soul but I can't find anywhere or on iTunes

I bought a Steve brookstien album heart and soul 4 years ago but I can't find it on iTunes anymore?

If you mean that it's no longer in your country's store then record companies/rights-holders occasionally remove their items from the store - if they have removed it then you won't be able to redownload it (unless they put it back in the store). Do you have a copy of it anywhere e.g. on an external backup drive ?

  • UCCX presented, Abandoned & handled calls

    Hi All,
I need to submit exact count for  UCCX presented, Abandoned & handled calls to my management,
    But in UCCX historical reporting,
I found diffeernt total number for total presented, Abandoned & handled calls for same durration,
Kindly suggest which report should I refer for the exact count for perticular CSQ,
so that total UCCX presented, Abandoned & handled calls will matched with the total calls handled by agents.
    Thankx
    Deeeps

Sorry, but that would be impossible given that scripting changes reporting metrics.
Take for example a script where you queue a caller in two queues simultaneously, and then your caller is handled by one of them.  They both will be marked as presented, only one as handled, and the other as dequeued.  Is that two calls or one?  You wouldn't no based on counts alone.
You have to understand your scripts in order to understand your reporting.  Unless you were willing to share your scripts and call flows with all of us, the best we can do is guess.
Sorry for the bad news, but that's how it goes.

  • Calls offered = Calls Handled & Abandoned in Q?

I have produced a report that shows calls Handled and Abandoned in Queue, however they do not add up to the total calls offered,
The report is showing Handled @ 329 & Abandoned in Q 273, where as calls offered is 524.
    The discrepancy is 48 calls!
In looking at the cisco documentation it is difficult to discern what makes up calls offered or call abandoned.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks Sarah

Hi Oabulaban, Can you tell me where i would find adandon on ring as a calculation? I couldn't find it in either the call type report or the call type skill group report.
Just to confirm, is I run the call Type report, calls Handled + calls Abandoned = calls offered 17 +25 = 41
however in the Call type skill group report - just run as a call type report the same calculation is 24 + 27 =51 However the actuall calls offered is showing 49!
a couple of people have mnetioned it could be script related, however I need to understand which would be the correct view - Call type report or the call type Skill group report.
If you are able to calrify that would be great.
