ABAP and JAVA trial together and RFC

Hello, I successfully installed NW ABAP 7.01 and NW JAVA 7.1 in the same machine and both installations work ok, but what I really want to do is to call some RFCs on the abap side from a web dynpro in the java side. I know i have to do something with the SLD, System Landscape Directory but I just don't know how to do the configurations, can anyone help me please?

Hi
Basically ABAP and Java patches would be inpendent of each other except the Kernel.
You can apply them together as Java patches are to be applied through JSPM and ABAP patches through SPAM, but it is usual practice to apply ABAP patches first and go ahead with Java stack. Because Applying them together would use considerable amount of system resources.
Hope this is helpful.

  • Java Trial AND ABAP Trial

    I succesfully installed the Netweaver 2004s ABAP Trial.
    Now I want to also dig deeper into SAP Java, especially Web Dynpro Development.
    What am I supposed to do? Can I download and install the Java Trial in parallel with the ABAP Trial? Can I run them both at the same time for example to access ABAP function modules from Java via RFC?
    And what's that SAP NetWeaver Application Server, Java EE 5 Edition for? The Java Trial already comes with an app server...
    Sorry for being stupid, I'm a SAP ABAP business programmer for many years now and am confused with all that system administrative wording...

    I have installed the abap testdrive 04s SP11. All seems to be ok.
    Now i try to install SAP NetWeaver 2004s Java Trial Version SP9 on same server, but I get some warnings and errors:

  • How to connect separated ABAP and Java stacks ?

    Hi,
    I have installed two separate ABAP and Java Stacks and trying to connect both the stacks together.
    As per my understanding, only JCO RFC is the mean of communication between ABAP and Java stacks.
    But still even after configuring the JCO RFC successfully, I am unable to view, configure or control
    J2EE stack's status from smicm (ABAP).
    Would you please suggest me, if there is any more configuration to be done on abap or Java stack side.
    Thanks,
    Cheers !!!
    Ashish

    Hi Sunny,
    JCO RFC is tested and it is working fine. So no issues from JCO RFC side. Hope you would have read carefully.

    Hope I am able to clear your doubt. Java is completely separated stack and not add-on.
    Suggest me how can I proceed further on this connectivity.

    Hi Olivier,
    I am grateful to you for your reply. I understood your point but now except a successful JCO RFC test,
    is there any mean to check and ensure that both the stacks are connected properly and ready to use.

  • Difference Between BAPI And RFC in ABAP

    Hi,
    i want to know difference between BAPI and RFC in SAP,
    can we call SAP GUI screen from NON SAP System Using BAPI.
    Reg,
    Hariharan

    Hi Ravishankar,
    The difference is not importat while you understand the concept.
    I think, RFC is the protocol for calling functions from external systems in R/3.
    I understand like BAPI a series of complet functions that SAP offers you for use and model a business use.
    But if I need program a function that can be called for external system i would call it RFC_NAME, because is a unique function that makes a single task.
    In other words, the difference i think is about work idea more than another thing.
    RFC
    A remote function call is a call to a function module running in a system different from the caller's. The remote function can also be called from within the same system (as a remote call).
    RFC consists of two interfaces : A calling interface for ABAP Programs and a calling interface for Non-SAP programs.
    The RFC Interface takes care of :-
    - Converting all parameter data to the representation needed in the remote system
    Calling the communication routines needed to talk to the remote system.
    Handling communications errors, and notifying the caller, if desired ( using EXCEPTIONS paramater of the CALL FUNCTION).
    BAPI
    BAPIs are standardized programming interfaces (methods) enabling external applications to access business processes and data in the R/3 System.
    BAPIs provide stable and standardized methods to achieve seamless integration between the R/3 System and external applications, legacy systems and add-ons.
    BAPIs are defined in the BOR(Business object repository) as methods of SAP business object types that carry out specific business functions.
    BAPIs are implemented as RFC-enabled function modules and are created in the Function Builder of the ABAP Workbench.
    The most critical difference btwn BAPI and FM is that BAPI can be wrapped in Business objects whereas RFC cant.
    BAPI are RFC enabled function modules. the difference between RFc and BAPI are business objects. You create business objects and those are then registered in your BOR (Business Object Repository) which can be accessed outside the SAP system by using some other applications (Non-SAP) such as VB or JAVA. in this case u only specify the business object and its method from external system in BAPI there is no direct system call. while RFC are direct system call Some BAPIs provide basic functions and can be used for most SAP business object types. These BAPIs should be implemented the same for all business object types. Standardized BAPIs are easier to use and prevent users having to deal with a number of different BAPIs. Whenever possible, a standardized BAPI must be used in preference to an individual BAPI.
    The following standardized BAPIs are provided:
    Reading instances of SAP business objects
    GetList ( ) With the BAPI GetList you can select a range of object key values, for example, company codes and material numbers.
    The BAPI GetList() is a class method.
    GetDetail() With the BAPI GetDetail() the details of an instance of a business object type are retrieved and returned to the calling program. The instance is identified via its key. The BAPI GetDetail() is an instance method. BAPIs that can create, change or delete instances of a business object type
    The following BAPIs of the same object type have to be programmed so that they can be called several times within one transaction. For example, if, after sales order 1 has been created, a second sales order 2 is created in the same transaction, the second BAPI call must not affect the consistency of the sales order 2. After completing the transaction with a COMMIT WORK, both the orders are saved consistently in the database.
    Create( ) and CreateFromData! ( )
    The BAPIs Create() and CreateFromData() create an instance of an SAP business object type, for example, a purchase order. These BAPIs are class methods.
    Change( )
    The BAPI Change() changes an existing instance of an SAP business object type, for example, a purchase order. The BAPI Change () is an instance method.
    Delete( ) and Undelete( ) The BAPI Delete() deletes an instance of an SAP business object type from the database or sets a deletion flag.
    The BAPI Undelete() removes a deletion flag. These BAPIs are instance methods.
    Cancel ( ) Unlike the BAPI Delete(), the BAPI Cancel() cancels an instance of a business object type. The instance to be cancelled remains in the database and an additional instance is created and this is the one that is actually canceled. The Cancel() BAPI is an instance method.
    Add<subobject> ( ) and Remove<subobject> ( ) The BAPI Add<subobject> adds a subobject to an existing object inst! ance and the BAPI and Remove<subobject> removes a subobject from an object instance. These BAPIs are instance methods.

  • Procedure to deploy ABAP and JAVA in sync

    Hi,
    we have a Java application which uses RFC's in a SAP backend though the JRA.
    We use netweaver 2004 sp16.
    When we make changes to an RFC which is used by the Java application we must restart the whole J2EE server for the JRA to reload the structures of the RFC.
    Now we are starting to use the JDI and deployment is automatic when we activate changes.
    Is there a way to avoid having to restart the J2EE server ? Has someone used other techniques which don't force you to restart the J2EE server ?
    I would understand restarting the connectors in the worst case but the whole server is really overkill if you ask me .
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    yes I'm sure we had to restart the whole server (JVM). We tried restarting the connectors but it seems something is held in cache. Does the JCO cache the abap data structures required to call RFC's in ABAP ?

  • Communication between Abap and Java and Java to Abap

    HI,
    I have installed BI 7.0 and the user complaints that BEx WEB Application Designer Query results are not showing up in the WEB URL Link.
    and the BI user suggests that communication between Abap to java and Java to Abap has to be done?
    How to setup ABAP to JAVA and JAVA to ABAP communication?
    Regards,
    Magham.

    Hi,
    Jco conn from ABAP to Java
    =====================
    You can use the JCO RFC Provider Service of the Web Application Server for your ABAP to Java calls.
    The steps involved in that are
    1. Configure destination in SM59 in SAP.
    2. Create RFC Destination in Visual Admin.
    3. Create a stateless session bean with JNDI name as the name of calling function module in SAP.
    4. Add a business method public void processFunction(JCO.Funtion fn) which is called by the JCO RFC Provider Service. The name should be 'processFunction'.
    5. Set library references in application-j2ee-engine.xml to type weak for the following
    a. com.sap.mw.jco.
    b. com.sap.tc.Logging (if you are using the logging api )
    Here is the sample code for the EJB biz method
    Business Method.
    public void processFunction(JCO.Function function) {
    try {
    // Get the import parameters for the function module
    JCO.ParameterList importList = function.getImportParameterList();
    logger.infoT("The value sent is" +
    (String)importList.getValue("USER_NAME"));
    // Set the export parameter value for the function module
    JCO.ParameterList export = function.getExportParameterList();
    export.setValue("From EJB", "RETURN");
    function.setExportParameterList(export);
    catch (java.lang.Exception e) {
    e.printStackTrace();
    Jco conn from Java to others(ex:ABAP)
    =====================-==========
    • Open Visual Admin(C:\usr\sap\SID\JCxx\j2ee\admin\go.bat) and connect to server
    • Go to Destinations service
    • Open HTTP Settings Tab
    • Add/Edit destination SLD_DataSupplier and type following values
    URL – http://xyz.corp:53000
    Authentication - BASIC
    User – dynproxxx
    Password - bp52st000
    • Press save and test (if you get response code 200 everything is o.k.)
    • Add/Edit other HTTP Destination named SLD_Client with the same values as SLD_DataSupplier:
    URL – http://xyz.corp:53000
    Authentication - BASIC
    User – dynproxxx
    Password - bp52st000
    • Press save and test (if you get response code 200 everything is o.k.)
    • Go to SLD Data Supplier service.
    • Press the button named: Send the Data to SLD and confirm triggering SLD Data transfer (if you receive successful message everything is o.k.).

  • Hi friends,  IDOC and RFC are sap related.but idoc is in abap stack rfc is

    1)IDOC and RFC are sap related.but idoc is in abap stack rfc is in java stack.what is difference between two.?

    hi ganga,
    The IDoc adapter is used by SAP systems to connect to a centrally configured Integration Engine using IDocs
    which is properitory to SAP integration
    so it doesn't need the Adapter engine.
    refer:
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/ab/bdb13b00ae793be10000000a11402f/content.htm
    The Adapter engine is working on the J2EE Engine.
    RFC Adapter is provided by the AdapterEngine.
    So RFC needs Java Runtime where IDoc doesn't.

  • Questions about ABAP 7.02 Trial and CE 7.2 Trial

    Hello,
    I am interested in setting up a java and abap stack to try out some of the newer technologies.
    Can I install ABAP 7.02 Trial and CE 7.2 Trial and have them interact (WD4J accessing ABAP backend)?
    Also is there a way to extend the licenses for the two application server trials?  When I visit https://websmp230.sap-ag.de/sap%28bD1lbiZjPTAwMQ==%29/bc/bsp/spn/minisap/minisap.htm, I do not see these two listed.  Will I be able to use one of the other systems to extend the license?
    If these are not a good choice for what I need, what versions would you recommend?  I will be installing on my notebook running Windows Vista with 3GB of RAM.
    Thanks,
    Steven

    Hello,
    I'm also interested in issues that you've asked. I would like to install java stack on ABAP trial Netweaver, but I've found somewhere that since ECC6.0 SAP is proposing to install separate java system instead of doing dual stacking. However I've found this info in only one place, so I'm not sure if it's 100% true.
    I think it should be possible to make these 2 systems talk to each other, but as in your case, my PC is to weak to run two SAP instances. ABAP needs at least 1GB on XP and 2GB on VISTA and JAVA if I remember correctly 2GB on XP and more on VISTA. So I think that you won't be able to run both of them in the same time.
    And about license, yes it is possible. Check this site http://tonkapome.wordpress.com/2009/07/04/sap-netweaver-trial-version-license-renewal/
    I did it for my 7.2 NSP system and it worked. I didn't try it for CE1, but since it is on this list you should be able to do it without any problems. I don't know why but after this update my developer user BCUSER has lost developer key so I had to input it once again, but beside this everything works fine.
    Best regards
    Marcin Cholewczuk

    Hi,
    Tha ABAP stack consists of the Integration Server which in turn contains your Integration Engine and Business Process Engine.
    The J2EE stack contains the Adapter Engine and your IR and ID run on the J2EE engine.
    Ever wondered how and where the XI pipeline gets executed? It happens in the ABAP stack.
    All messsages picked by the Adapter Framework running on the J2EE engine are passed to the Integration Engine, which does the routing. The mapping program again gets executed on the Java stack and the rest of the pipeline servies are executed again on the ABAP stack and so  on.
    Take a look at the XI overview doc to understand this better,
