ABAP Developer want to take SD or MM certification

Dear All,
Am SAP developer with 7yrs of experience in various implementation, support projects focusing mainly on logistics. Now I would like to take SD or MM certification, I have worked majorly on both modules and know almost equally both.
I would like to know which module would help me progress better with my technical skills and move to managerial roles.
Thanks
regards
Krish

MM and SD both are very running module.
As you have worked with both MM and SD module, then you can choose one of them.
Market value for both module is fine.
As you know MM is related Procurement and SD is related to Sales.
Both are most valuated module in an industries.
As per your interest, you can choose any of them.

  • New ABAP Developer Want Some Guidance.....

    hello to everyone
i am a new abap programmer. I came from a strong programming background. I just has prepared the certification C_TAW12_70 but give the exam but i failed from 2% only (passing score was 52%). Well i am preparing again and take that exam in 3 months time again. But i need someone who work as a free lancer but i want to work for him to gain some experience. Also, i don't to get paid in return. It is just for the sake of experience i want. As it is always difficult for new starters end especially for independent developers. So, do help me guys.......

Please note, it is against the Rules of Engagement to post your email address in these forums. You can maintain one in your business card.
I think asking for a freelancer to mentor is not such a crazy idea. What the freelancer gets is a free resource to do income generating work, while he does something else.
From my own experience though, it's not that easy. I've just taken onto my company a chap who's a brilliant programmer, used to handling and processing complex data. But he doesn't know ABAP. He's very bright and learning through books, blogs and from me. It still takes quite a lot of my time. And that's the problem. Anyone who takes you on, even for free, is going to have to invest time and effort.
Another time I did something similar, it didn't work out. The guy really was not cut out to be a developer. Again it was a huge drain on my time. The reason I'm persevering with the new chap is that he knows how to handle complex data forms, which I need.
Another problem is that of having suitable work. For my employee, I've got a project that should hopefully generate income. But I've not much work that I can pass on to someone else - it's generally specific to my clients, requiring client specific knowledge.
I wish you all the best, but you've not chosen an easy path.

  • ABAP Development certification

    Hi all;
I am certified as a support consultant for incident management for SAP business all in one, but I am thinking of having a career in ABAP Development, because I am into programming more.
I have good basics in ABAP but I wanted to know how long it would take me to be an associate developer in ABAP, and what material I need to cover in order to make sure that I pass the exam with the code: C_TAW12_70
    Any advice will be great
    ~ Amal

    Hi,
See this link for all the areas you need to cover:
    http://www.sap.com/services/education/certification/certificationtest.epx?context=[[C_TAW12_70|G]]|
You would have to do all of these courses, and/or gain equivalent experience. That might take 2-3 years.
The test itself is not that hard, so you might still get through after somewhat less experience. It is a multiple choice exam.
    cheers & good luck!

  • ABAP Development Estimate

    Hello,
I have user request to develop a custom ABAP program that would combine the following:
    1.  Credit Master Data, Limits and Exposure data from FD33.
    2.  VA05 Order Backlog data
    3.  KE30 PA Report showing sales by customer and sales area.
    4.  A/R data from F.21
all in a new custom program. I have quoted an estimate on the number of days it
would take to design, code and test this development but I would like some external feedback from the ABAP community on how long this development would take.
Can you provide just some rough estimates on how long it would take an ABAP developer to write a program to combine all this information in a ALV report.
The user would want to select and filter all this data by customer number and sales org, distribution channel and division.
    Thanks
    chris

    Hi Chris,
The estimate depends upon the complexcity of the issue or the design. Some companies have ABAP effort estimation tool which gives a  rough figure of the total number of days required to develop a object based on the complexcity of the object.
Try to analyze and see how many database select is required, how many screens to be developed, how complex is the list output and how many test scenarios have to considered in unit testing. All these factor will contribute to determine how long it would take to develop an object. It also depends on the skill set your team has. If a person who is good in SAP SCRIPT would take less number of days to develop the script if its assigned to him. So it all depends on what kind of object you have to develop and its complexcity.
    Cheers

  • I want to take printout of PO which is cancelled by user.

    Hi,
I want to take printout of PO which is cancelled by user.
but s/m not allowed to take printout.

    HI,
We cannot able to take deleted PO using T-code ME9F because it shown 'document not available' during ME9F printout.
So, if you want to take deleted PO with ABAP consultant 'Z' program  developed  (like ZME9F)  and execute the program PO take printout.
In this way only we take deleted PO printout(our company also doing this way).
Hope, it is useful for you.

  • Abap development possible in B1 version

    Dear Team
I wanted to find out whether SAP B1 version will allow us to do Abap development ?
If yes , any configuration to be carried out
    Plz reply soonest
    Regards
    Chelian.M
    FICO Consultant

Hi, That is not possible. The Application Middleware in R/3 or ECC or SAP Suite requires ABAP programming to interface with BASIS. There is no such architecture in SAP Business One - SAP B1 requires programming of UI, DI and Java DI interfaces which is done through VB, .net, C# or Java DI Webservices Interface programming. So there is no ABAP in SAP B1.

  • ABAP development license for integration certification

Hello to all the forum members,
My company is interested in certification some ABAP development that was developed for one of our costumers.
The development was done using a developer license of the costumer and as we understood, ABAP development license is a pre-requisite to the integration certification process in order to receive your own name space.
Could you please let me know if the costumer developer license is enough for us to start with the integration certification process.
    Thanks,
    Amit

    Hi Amit,
I also have something I want to present as "Powered by NetWeaver".
Maybe we can combine forces and marketing?
please contact me at: [email protected]
    I will call you back.
BTW, I live now in Canada...
    thanks,

  • Abap development in AFS Module

    Hi ABAP Gurus,
I am working as abap developer.
I need to work on afs module. But i am new in AFS module.
If any one has any good information like
what kind of development we need to do in AFS and
how to find usefule tables and basic understanding of AFS module.
If any one has document for AFS which will help to understand the
basic of afs then please forward me on this email id : [email protected]
    Thanks,
    Jack

    Hi Jack,
An abap developer has to basically do the same stuff in AFS as he does in any other module. The only difference is that we also need to take the size into account. The fields related to size normally start with J_3A and you can see in any table(Ex: MARA).
Let me give you an example. I was required to develop a form for invoice. In normal circumstances, we are required to put in the Material Number and the Price, but when you are dealing with AFS, we are required to put it Material Number, and the price for each corresponding size.
    Regards
    Aneesh.
Get back to me if you got any more questions.

  • ABAP development thru portal

I am not sure if this is the correct forum to post this but I could not think of another one to post into. Our company wants to start using the portal to for accessing SAP as opposed to fat client. I am trying to work with se80 and I find that it is not as good as the fat client. one thing I am finding is that when to click on a function, in the fat client you would be taken to the code for the function but in the portal it does not. It seems like delevoping thru the portal would really be a challange. Is anybody doing development thru the portal? are there tricks that you do or is there special setup that you do in order to do development?
thanks in advance for your help

    Hi,
The Portal is meant to replace the SAP GUI from the user's standpoint. The idea is that users would be able to access all applications (SAP or non SAP) through a single (web-based) user interface instead of having to log on individually to each of the systems.
However, this does not apply to the developers. Developers will still have to do ABAP development using the SAP GUI and  dynpro development using the NWDS (for Java Web Dynpro) and SAP WAS (for ABAP Web Dynpro). This is not going to go away.
Hope this helps in clarifying your doubts.

  • ABAP Development Workbench with WAS 6.4 ?

Where to get ABAP Development Workbench ?
Hello sap gurus, I am new to ABAP. I alredy have SAP NetWeaver Enterprise Portal on MaxDB - Developer Edition Sneak Preview installed on my server. However I want to use the ABAP Development Workbench.  I do now want to buy a book with cds or go to the sap shop site to get minisap.
Is there any way to Use ABAP Development Workbench with Web Application Server 6.4 or 6.1?
If yes where to get the WAS 6.1?
    Thanks

    Hi,
What you need to install is the ABAP stack. This would be on your Netweaver installation CDs. Please have a look at service.sap.com/instguides for more in-depth installation instructions.
If you just have the Portal then you only have the Java stack (the Portal is really just an application deployed to the Java stack.)
Also do soe searches on SDN on how to integrate the 2 stacks..,

  • Two ABAP Development Clients with Transport enabled in Development System

    Hello All,
I have a unique situation in my development systems. We currently have two abap development clients with client settings which allows repository transports to be created. The reason for this setup is because there are two different abap development teams who want to work independently.
Has anyone see two development clients in development system? Do you see any risk with having two abap development clients with transport enbaled? Should I force them to work in ONLY ONE ABAP development client?
I would like to know your thoughts?
    Thx...Rocky

    Hello,
It may not a good idea to have two development clients. You have to manage with the following issues:
    (1) Customizing transports need to be moved to two clients
    (2) You may have to peridically sync. them between each other with all the development objects
    (3) Data needs to refreshed in two clients for development/unit test purposes
    (4) Same object may be edited in two clients independently at the same time which is likely to go to Production at different times resulting in version sequencing issues
    (5) Vension of data of object will be lost if you want to retrieve old version.
    Thanks,
    Venu

  • Starting Webdynpro ABAP development

    Dear Experts,
I am a Portal Consultant and I know Webdynpro Java. I am planning to learn Webdynpro ABAP.
Could you please provide me the details about actual Webdynpro ABAP development?
I have seen some applications and they used "Service Call" method to execute BAPI's and setting Import parameters.
In some applications they used normal development.
Could you please provide which is suitable( through Service call or normal development) and majarity of the people can use?
    Thanks & Regards,
    Vijay

    Hi Vijay,
Service call is required basically to get data from systems other than the calling systems i.e. a RFC call. Though you can use BAPI's to get data from the same system. (FM must be RFC enabled to use this functionality)
You can also call normal FM, but for that you don't have to create a service call.
Suppose if you want to use some standard BAPI's or FM just by creating service call you can use in your application.
check this example how to use BAPI,

  • SAP HANA development languages for ABAP Developer

Hi I was just looking at some blogs on HANA. Can anyone tell me how to learn the new HANA programming languages SQLScript etc. As you know not many companies use HANA yet, so getting to use a real HANA box can be hard as of now.. What are the other options... Can I install the HANA software on my PC and use it with a few Excel files or MS-Access db just to workout what these programming languages actually do.. Ofcourse I dont have access to the HANA box(hardware that SAP talks about). I am an ABAP Developer I have access to ECC if that helps.
Also from what I can understand the HANA box sits on top of the ECC/BW systems etc  or would HANA replace some aspects of the Application Server and sit in the R3 architecture? if the second scenario is true would most of the ABAP reports etc written using traditional ABAP have to be replaced or modified to use HANA related code in them to improve performance(I know ABAP doesnt support this yet).
If companies start using HANA I would think most ABAP developments just querying to get data would need to be rewritten-even the webdynpro applications for performance.
Can HANA update DBs as well?
Would HANA programming be a required skill for most ABAP developers in future?

    Edited by: sk123456 on Sep 29, 2011 3:35 AM

    Hello Sk,
so far (with HANA 1.0 SPS 2), the only relevant languages to learn is SQL and SQL Script. Check http://service.sap.com/hana which has SQL and SQL Script Guides.
Since you know ABAP already, you will pick these things up rather quickly. There are as you noted some concepts you have to understand in order to make optimal use of the HANA features and get maximum performance (anyone could come up with SQL or SQL script that crawls to a halt even in HANA). One key is to process everything is sets of data rather than record by record. Another important item is to keep all processing within the column engine. Also avoid joins that lead to large intermediate results. We are currently writing some how-to guides which will be publised on http://www.experiencesaphana.com/. Stay tuned!
In terms of the architecture, I would say HANA as a database sits below the application server and/or client, for example, BW powered by HANA where HANA plays the role of the DBMS. The other option is to run side-by-side for example, connecting HANA to an existing ECC (that runs on MS-SQL). In either case, you are right; the logic (either in the application on top of HANA, or the models inside HANA) needs to be changed or created to take advantage of HANA.
Where can you learn more? Class room training TZHANA or come back regularly to the Try section of the Experience Site where we plan to publish other options.
    Regards,
    Marc

PS: And we certainly have plans to integrate HANA features into ABAP

  • Sap abap developer or java developer

    hi
I am an engineer (fresher) and i have two job offers in my hand one is java/j2ee developer and other is sap abap developer
i am not able to decide which one to choose and i have no idea that which one is better than other.
So if u were in my place then which offer will you accept
    Thanks
    Viron

    Hi Viron,
I had to make a similar decision myself a number of years ago. Based on my personal experience I would say the following:
    *ABAP Vs Java*
    - ABAP  is a business procedural language, only used with SAP. Therefore you need to ask yourself the question do you want to restrict yourself to working with one product. Also more importantly do you enjoy writing business related reports? i.e. if you would prefer to program games on mobile phones or be involved in developing a cutting edge software product then ABAP is not for you.
    -  As a general rule ABAP jobs command a higher salary over Java (in the UK anyway) as it is a more specialised skill. There are far more Java developers around.
    - You may feel like ABAP is a step back after programming in Java. Although ABAP supports object orientated programming, web services, web portals ect.. this is not commonly adopted. There is of course a disclaimer here as if you are going to work for a consultancy on green field SAP implementations then you are far more likely to adopt and use the above technologies. However if you are working on an older SAP system or in a support environment most companies are still using the standard R/3 Interface i.e. no web portal and the majority of their reports have not been developed using OO Programming Techniques.
    - You could get the best of both worlds if you can get a job as a webdynpro Java developer in SAP. Then pick up ABAP on the side. Having knowledge of both languages would make you highly employable as a web portals developer.
    - If you are strongly motivated towards Business Application Programming but would prefer to keep your options open to move into another area later in your career. Then you could look at working with Oracle Fusion, it is a software product based on Java. It is also the 2nd largest ERP tool on the market just behind SAP. This way you are building on your Java programming skills but not restricting yourself to working with an ERP software product in the future.
Hope this is of some help.
    Regards,
    Phil
