ABAP for HANA certification

I am ABAP consultant having 9 years of exp. I want to do certification for ABAP for Hana.I found one certification with name SAP Certified Development Specialist - ABAP for SAP HANA (Edition 2014). In that i found below line written "This certification is issued to candidates who successfully pass the certification exam for the "SAP Certified Development Associate - ABAP with SAP NetWeaver" (C_TAW12_70, C_TAW12_71, C_TAW12_731, P_ABAP_70)."
Now my question is that I have not done any prior certification on ABAP. So Can i directly go for the ABAP for Hana certification or i have to first clear Abap with netWeaver first.

Can you use ABAP for B1 Development

I have been lookng for answer for the following 2 questons.
1. Is is it possible to use ABAP for B1 Development to create Add-ons.
2. In the standard forms/reports there is no figure to words conversion. Please high light on how to do this.

Short answer: no you cannot.
Longer answer: B1 gives you access to its objects and GUI
with COM-based libraries. Any language that supports COM
can be used, included VB, VB.NET, C#, C and C++. A wrapper
for Java is also provided to access B1 objects.

Using Acrobat SDK for Unix development environment

Can it be possible for me to use Acrobat SDK for Unix development environment as a server application??If yes, what are the things that should be installed on the client side to make sure that the client should be able see the produced PDF files?? Kindly help me in this regard..

HANA Development Environment

As a HANA newbie, I'm using developer addition on Amazon cloud. I'm working with sample data and trying to explore HANA. For production, we can choose either on-premise or cloud options but I wonder how HANA dev/test environment of a real project is in general. Do we need the appliance for development purposes? or is cloud option better? I would like to hear experience of HANA developers.

How to setup JDeveloper 9.0.4.0 for iStore development environment?

I am new to iStore and JDeveloper.
I want to use JDeveloper as a development environment for making the UI customizations to iStore. Unfortunately the only documentation I could find is dated April 2002 for JDeveloper 3.2.3.
Has anyone been able to configure JDeveloper 9.0.4.0 as the development environment for iStore (eBusiness suite) 11.5.10? I want to be able to run/test the JSPs locally before deploying onto the development server, but cannot find documentation on how to do it for the latests releases of iStore/JDeveloper.

You need to download and install the OA Framwork Extension (patch 4045639 for windows).
Have a look at the Metalink Note:275880.1 (OA Framework 11.5.10 Doc Roadmap), this gives more details.

Looking for Integrated Development Environment

I am new to Mac programming and was wondering if anyone could recommend a good IDE (Integrated Development Environment)? I tried downloading a version of XCode but it works only for OS 10.4 and I am using 10.3.9. Also, I ordered the book "Beginning Mac OSX Programming" by Trent and McCormack. Is it a good book to start with, or did I waste my money? Thanks in advance.

I have that book and I've found it useful. It provides a basic introduction to Xcode and a number of the languages available. However, if you want to learn a particular language, then you may need a language-specific book.
Have you any particular language in mind that you are wanting to learn/use?
Also, is there any reason for not upgrading to 10.4.9 (which is the latest version of the OS)? At least with the latest release, you will have many bugs fixed and the current discussions will all relate to any new ones.

Where does SRTCM fit into preparing ABAP for Hana?

I've seen and heard mention of transaction SRTCM (Runtime Check Monitor), to run in Production for one or two weeks to go alongside static code checks. I'm a little confused on how this fits into preparing our code for Hana though.
If we use ATC/Code Inspector with the 'FUNCTIONAL_DB' and 'PERFORMANCE_DB' variants and then the SQL Monitor in Production, these are then plugged into transaction SWLT to provide a focused list on what we need to work on. SRTCM, however, does not seem to fit into this picture. There doesn't seem to be a way of plugging it into SWLT (unless I'm missing something?). Or is it meant as a stand alone tool?
We're on SAP_BASIS 740, SP8, in case that makes the difference.

Dear Malcolm,
you are right, SRTCM is not integrated into SWLT. You can use it as standalone tool. But it is an additional source of information to find critical places in source code. You can also export SRTCM information from an productive system and import it into an development system.

Disk Space for PSoft Development Environment?

Can anyone tell me the approximate amount of disk space needed for an HRMS PSoft Development Environment?
I'm looking to create a standalone environment on one computer (no separate server), and am looking for sizing of HRMS application (8.9 or 9.0) + demo database + Oracle database + PTools + app server + web server + db server + process scheduler + PeopleBooks.
I know there are other issues, e.g. supported OS and how to get this set up, but right now I just need sizing for the basics above (have I forgotten anything?).

Typical Repository setup for multiple developer environment.

I'm having trouble finding documentation on setting up a
development environment for several developers using Repository.
I currently have a Global Shared Workarea set up with some
Forms .fmb files that I would like to share. What method should
the developer who wants to work on one of these files use to
perform a check out of the file? When a file is checked out, is
it moved to a Private Workarea or is it downloaded to the
developers hard drive? Within Forms Builder there is a check out
option under File->Administration, but as far as I can tell,
there is no way to browse the Repository to find the file that
needs to be worked on. I'm able to use the Repository Object
Navigator to locate the file, but when I check it out I'm not
sure how to work on it within Forms Builder. Do I need to
download the file to my hard drive, or is Forms Builder able to
work on the file within the Repository?

Nice set of questions.
I suggest you allow each developer to create their own workarea,
these will be private, until they are shared to other developers.
For a simple environment the workarea rule will be latest(main).
Check your fmb files into the Repository, they will then appear
in any workarea that has the rule latest on main. You will also
need to make the folder they reside in available to public, or
grant access to individual users.
Each developer should map the folder to a particular clientside
directory. I suggest you apply some standards across development
machines to avoid confusion. A mapping to d:\forms would be
ideal. On checkout of an fmb it will be synchronized with the
local file system. The form can then be opened from he Forms
Builder. You are correct that there is no For Builder Repository
browser, you must use the RON. Once the form is open in the
Forms Builder it may be checked in and out. You will need to go
back to the RON to perform diff/merge and dependency analysis.
I suggest you ask 2 developers to work on the same fmb and see
how the repository handles this. Try merging fmb files,
hopefully you will be pleasantly surprised.
Note that to add files to a checked in folder you must check it
out. To make the changes available to other workareas you must
check the folder back in.
Have a look at the commandline tool. We use a lot of scripts to
assist setup and build releases.

Requesting MII 12.x for a development environment landscape recommendation.

I have recently deployed a fresh ECC6 EHP5 system for development, we would like to explore using MII along with it but we are an ABAP shop. Since SAP no longer supports dual stack and we went with ABAP what are my options?
Can I have a separate install of EHP1 FOR SAP NW CE 7.1 ( Java Application Server ) on the same box or does that have to go on a different server?

ABAP For HANA as secondary DB problem in execute query decleration.

I am fetching data from HANA DB as secondary database using ADBC. When I am going to concatenate native SQL query its geting more than 255 char and here is the problem.
Please suggest how can I deal with more than 255 char string query.
GV_SQL is query which is string.
e.g. GO_RESULT = GO_SQL->EXECUTE_QUERY( GV_SQL ).

     1.Actually I am not facing any problem with ADBC. Just ABAP predefined type STRING is not accepting more than 255 character length.
     2.At the time of concatenating fields, HANA view path and where conditions it is getting more than 255 character, hence at the time execution of query getting failed.
     3. GV_SQL type string.
GV_SQL = |SELECT MANDT....(more than 255 character length)| &&
                   |FROM _SYS_BIC."dev.re.e10.cal.fi.tr/CV_COSTELEMENT_TEST" |
             && |('PLACEHOLDER' = ('$$IP_BUKRS$$', '{ P_WERKS }')) |.
GV_SQL storing only 255 character, I wanted a string to store more than 1000 character length.

ABAP for SAP HANA

Is there any difference in normal ABAP and ABAP for SAP HANA ? If yes , then please guide me how to proceed for learning ABAP for SAP HANA ?

There is a slight difference between ABAP and ABAP for HANA. If you are well aware of all ABAP concepts then you can easily understand the ABAP for HANA concepts.
Some of the differnce which I observed.
1. New syntax for Open SQL is introduced, which includes support for comma separated lists, enhanced string expressions, the definition of host variables in a more standard fashion, and fewer restrictions for joins.
eg: SELECT so.matnr, so.mtart FROM mara AS so INTO TABLE @it_mara UPTO 10 ROWS.
2.It uses the TOP DOWN approach so we can use HANA databases capabilities. you can get more information on this in this blog ABAP for HANA and "Code Push-Down"
